1சிலநாள் சென்றபின்பு, சிம்சோன் கோதுமை அறுக்கிற நாட்களில் ஒரு வெள்ளாட்டுக்குட்டியை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு, தன் பெண்சாதியைக் காணப்போய்: நான் என் பெண்சாதியினிடத்தில் அறைவீட்டிற்குள் போகட்டும் என்றான்; அவள் தகப்பனோ, அவனை உள்ளேபோக ஒட்டாமல்:
1But it happened after a while, in the time of wheat harvest, that Samson visited his wife with a young goat; and he said, “I will go in to my wife into the room.” But her father wouldn’t allow him to go in.
2நீ அவளை முற்றிலும் பகைத்துவிட்டாய் என்று நான் எண்ணி, அவளை உன் சிநேகிதனுக்குக் கொடுத்துவிட்டேன்; அவள் தங்கை அவளைப்பார்க்கிலும் அழகானவள் அல்லவா, அவளுக்குப் பதிலாக இவள் உனக்கு இருக்கட்டும் என்று சொன்னான்.
2Her father said, “I most certainly thought that you had utterly hated her; therefore I gave her to your companion. Isn’t her younger sister more beautiful than she? Please take her, instead.”
3அப்பொழுது சிம்சோன்: நான் பெலிஸ்தருக்குப் பொல்லாப்புச் செய்தாலும், என்மேல் குற்றமில்லை என்று அவர்களுக்குச் சொல்லி,
3Samson said to them, “This time I will be blameless in regard of the Philistines, when I harm them.”
4புறப்பட்டுப்போய், முந்நூறு நரிகளைப் பிடித்து, பந்தங்களை எடுத்து, வாலோடே வால் சேர்த்து, இரண்டு வால்களுக்கும் நடுவே ஒவ்வொரு பந்தத்தை வைத்துக்கட்டி,
4Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took torches, and turned tail to tail, and put a torch in the midst between every two tails.
5பந்தங்களைக் கொளுத்தி, பெலிஸ்தரின் வெள்ளாண்மையிலே அவைகளை ஓடவிட்டு, கதிர்க்கட்டுகளையும் வெள்ளாண்மையையும் திராட்சத்தோட்டங்களையும் ஒலிவத்தோப்புக்களையும் சுட்டெரித்துப்போட்டான்.
5When he had set the brands on fire, he let them go into the standing grain of the Philistines, and burnt up both the shocks and the standing grain, and also the olive groves.
6இப்படிச் செய்தவன் யார் என்று பெலிஸ்தர் கேட்கிறபோது, திம்னாத்தானுடைய மருமகனாகிய சிம்சோன்தான்; அவனுடைய பெண்சாதியை அவனுடைய சிநேகிதனுக்குக் கொடுத்துவிட்டபடியால் அப்படிச் செய்தான் என்றார்கள்; அப்பொழுது பெலிஸ்தர் போய், அவளையும் அவள் தகப்பனையும் அக்கினியால் சுட்டெரித்தார்கள்.
6Then the Philistines said, “Who has done this?” They said, “Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite, because he has taken his wife, and given her to his companion.” The Philistines came up, and burnt her and her father with fire.
7அப்பொழுது சிம்சோன் அவர்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் இப்படிச் செய்தபடியால் நான் உங்கள் கையிலே பழிவாங்கினாலொழிய இளைப்பாறேன் என்று சொல்லி,
7Samson said to them, “If you behave like this, surely I will be avenged of you, and after that I will cease.”
8அவர்களைச் சின்னபின்னமாகச் சங்காரம்பண்ணி, பின்பு போய், ஏத்தாம் ஊர்க் கன்மலைச் சந்திலே குடியிருந்தான்.
8He struck them hip and thigh with a great slaughter: and he went down and lived in the cleft of the rock of Etam.
9அப்பொழுது பெலிஸ்தர் போய், யூதாவிலே பாளயமிறங்கி, லேகி என்கிற வெளியிலே பரவியிருந்தார்கள்.
9Then the Philistines went up, and encamped in Judah, and spread themselves in Lehi.
10நீங்கள் எங்களுக்கு விரோதமாக வந்தது என்ன என்று யூதா மனுஷர் கேட்டதற்கு, அவர்கள்: சிம்சோன் எங்களுக்குச் செய்ததுபோல, நாங்களும் அவனுக்குச் செய்யும்படி அவனைக் கட்டுகிறதற்காக வந்தோம் என்றார்கள்.
10The men of Judah said, “Why have you come up against us?” They said, “We have come up to bind Samson, to do to him as he has done to us.”
11அப்பொழுது யூதாவிலே மூவாயிரம்பேர் ஏத்தாம் ஊர்க் கன்மலைச் சந்திற்குப் போய்: பெலிஸ்தர் நம்மை ஆளுகிறார்கள் என்று தெரியாதா? பின்னை ஏன் எங்களுக்கு இப்படிச் செய்தாய் என்று சிம்சோனிடத்தில் சொன்னார்கள். அதற்கு அவன்: அவர்கள் எனக்குச் செய்தபடியே நானும் அவர்களுக்குச் செய்தேன் என்றான்.
11Then three thousand men of Judah went down to the cleft of the rock of Etam, and said to Samson, “Don’t you know that the Philistines are rulers over us? What then is this that you have done to us?” He said to them, “As they did to me, so have I done to them.”
12அப்பொழுது அவர்கள்: உன்னைக்கட்டி, பெலிஸ்தர் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுக்க வந்திருக்கிறோம் என்றார்கள். அதற்குச் சிம்சோன்: நீங்களே என்மேல் விழுகிறதில்லை என்று எனக்கு ஆணையிடுங்கள் என்றான்.
12They said to him, “We have come down to bind you, that we may deliver you into the hand of the Philistines.” Samson said to them, “Swear to me that you will not fall on me yourselves.”
13அதற்கு அவர்கள்: நாங்கள் உன்னை இறுகக்கட்டி, அவர்கள் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுப்போமே அல்லாமல், உன்னைக் கொன்றுபோடமாட்டோம் என்று சொல்லி, இரண்டு புதுக் கயிறுகளாலே அவனைக் கட்டி, கன்மலையிலிருந்து கொண்டுபோனார்கள்.
13They spoke to him, saying, “No; but we will bind you fast, and deliver you into their hand; but surely we will not kill you.” They bound him with two new ropes, and brought him up from the rock.
14அவன் லேகிவரைக்கும் வந்து சேர்ந்தபோது, பெலிஸ்தர் அவனுக்கு விரோதமாய் ஆரவாரம் பண்ணினார்கள். அப்பொழுது கர்த்தருடைய ஆவி அவன்மேல் பலமாய் இறங்கினதினால், அவன் புயங்களில் கட்டியிருந்த கயிறுகள் நெருப்புப்பட்ட நூல்போலாகி, அவன் கட்டுகள் அவன் கைகளை விட்டு அறுந்துபோயிற்று.
14When he came to Lehi, the Philistines shouted as they met him: and the Spirit of Yahweh came mightily on him, and the ropes that were on his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands dropped from off his hands.
15உடனே அவன் ஒரு கழுதையின் பச்சைத் தாடையெலும்பைக் கண்டு, தன் கையை நீட்டி அதை எடுத்து, அதினாலே ஆயிரம்பேரைக் கொன்றுபோட்டான்.
15He found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, and put forth his hand, and took it, and struck a thousand men therewith.
16அப்பொழுது சிம்சோன்: கழுதையின் தாடையெலும்பினால் குவியல் குவியலாகப் பட்டுக்கிடக்கிறார்கள், கழுதையின் தாடையெலும்பினால் ஆயிரம்பேரைக் கொன்றேன் என்றான்.
16Samson said, “With the jawbone of a donkey, heaps on heaps; with the jawbone of a donkey I have struck a thousand men.”
17அப்படிச் சொல்லித் தீர்ந்தபின்பு, தன் கையில் இருந்த தாடையெலும்பை எறிந்துவிட்டு, அவ்விடத்திற்கு ராமாத்லேகி என்று பேரிட்டான்.
17It happened, when he had made an end of speaking, that he cast away the jawbone out of his hand; and that place was called Ramath Lehi.
18அவன் மிகவும் தாகமடைந்து, கர்த்தரை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிட்டு: தேவரீர் உமது அடியேன் கையினால் இந்தப் பெரிய இரட்சிப்பைக் கட்டளையிட்டிருக்க, இப்பொழுது நான் தாகத்தினால் செத்து, விருந்தசேதனம் இல்லாதவர்கள் கையிலே விழவேண்டுமோ என்றான்.
18He was very thirsty, and called on Yahweh, and said, “You have given this great deliverance by the hand of your servant; and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?”
19அப்பொழுது தேவன் லேகியிலுள்ள பள்ளத்தைப் பிளக்கப்பண்ணினார்; அதிலிருந்து தண்ணீர் ஓடிவந்தது; அவன் குடித்தபோது அவன் உயிர் திரும்ப வந்தது, அவன் பிழைத்தான்; ஆனபடியால் அதற்கு எந்நக்கோரி என்று பேரிட்டான்; அது இந்நாள்வரையும் லேகியில் இருக்கிறது.
19But God split the hollow place that is in Lehi, and water came out of it. When he had drunk, his spirit came again, and he revived: therefore its name was called En Hakkore, which is in Lehi, to this day.
20அவன் பெலிஸ்தரின் நாட்களில் இஸ்ரவேலை இருபது வருஷம் நியாயம் விசாரித்தான்.
20He judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years.
