1மாறுபாடான உதடுகளுள்ள மூடனைப்பார்க்கிலும், உத்தமனாய் நடக்கிற தரித்திரனே வாசி.
1Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in his lips and is a fool.
2ஆத்துமா அறிவில்லாமலிருப்பது நல்லதல்ல; கால் துரிதமானவன் தப்பி நடக்கிறான்.
2It isn’t good to have zeal without knowledge; nor being hasty with one’s feet and missing the way.
3மனுஷனுடைய மதியீனம் அவன் வழியைத் தாறுமாறாக்கும்; என்றாலும் அவன் மனம் கர்த்தருக்கு விரோதமாய்த் தாங்கலடையும்.
3The foolishness of man subverts his way; his heart rages against Yahweh.
4செல்வம் அநேக சிநேகிதரைச் சேர்க்கும்; தரித்திரனோ தன் சிநேகிதனாலும் நெகிழப்படுவான்.
4Wealth adds many friends, but the poor is separated from his friend.
5பொய்ச்சாட்சிக்காரன் ஆக்கினைக்குத் தப்பான்; பொய்களைப் பேசுகிறவனும் தப்புவதில்லை.
5A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who pours out lies shall not go free.
6பிரபுவின் தயையை அநேகர் வருந்திக் கேட்பார்கள்; கொடைகொடுக்கிறவனுக்கு எவனும் சிநேகிதன்.
6Many will entreat the favor of a ruler, and everyone is a friend to a man who gives gifts.
7தரித்திரனை அவனுடைய சகோதரர் எல்லாரும் பகைக்கிறார்களே, எத்தனை அதிகமாய் அவன் சிநேகிதர் அவனுக்குத் தூரமாவார்கள்; அவர்களுடைய வார்த்தைகளை அவன் நாடுகிறான், அவைகளோ வெறும் வார்த்தைகளே.
7All the relatives of the poor shun him: how much more do his friends avoid him! He pursues them with pleas, but they are gone.
8ஞானத்தைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுகிறவன் தன் ஆத்துமாவைச் சிநேகிக்கிறான்; புத்தியைக் காக்கிறவன் நன்மையடைவான்.
8He who gets wisdom loves his own soul. He who keeps understanding shall find good.
9பொய்ச்சாட்சிக்காரன் ஆக்கினைக்குத் தப்பான்; பொய்களைப் பேசுகிறவன் நாசமடைவான்.
9A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who utters lies shall perish.
10மூடனுக்குச் செல்வம் தகாது; பிரபுக்களை ஆண்டுகொள்வது அடிமைக்கு எவ்வளவும் தகாது.
10Delicate living is not appropriate for a fool, much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
11மனுஷனுடைய விவேகம் அவன் கோபத்தை அடக்கும்; குற்றத்தை மன்னிப்பது அவனுக்கு மகிமை.
11The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense.
12ராஜாவின் கோபம் சிங்கத்தின் கெர்ச்சிப்புக்குச் சமானம்; அவனுடைய தயை புல்லின்மேல் பெய்யும் பனிபோலிருக்கும்.
12The king’s wrath is like the roaring of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.
13மூடனாகிய மகன் தன் தகப்பனுக்கு மிகுந்த துக்கம்; மனைவியின் சண்டைகள் ஓயாத ஒழுக்கு.
13A foolish son is the calamity of his father. A wife’s quarrels are a continual dripping.
14வீடும் ஆஸ்தியும் பிதாக்கள் வைக்கும் சுதந்தரம்; புத்தியுள்ள மனைவியோ கர்த்தர் அருளும் ஈவு.
14House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from Yahweh.
15சோம்பல் தூங்கிவிழப்பண்ணும்; அசதியானவன் பட்டினியாயிருப்பான்.
15Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep. The idle soul shall suffer hunger.
16கட்டளையை காத்துக்கொள்ளுகிறவன் தன் ஆத்துமாவைக் காக்கிறான்; தன் வழிகளை அவமதிக்கிறவன் சாவான்.
16He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, but he who is contemptuous in his ways shall die.
17ஏழைக்கு இரங்குகிறவன் கர்த்தருக்குக் கடன்கொடுக்கிறான்; அவன் கொடுத்ததை அவர் திரும்பக் கொடுப்பார்.
17He who has pity on the poor lends to Yahweh; he will reward him.
18நம்பிக்கையிருக்குமட்டும் உன் மகனைச் சிட்சைசெய்; ஆனாலும் அவனைக் கொல்ல உன் ஆத்துமாவை எழும்பவொட்டாதே.
18Discipline your son, for there is hope; don’t be a willing party to his death.
19கடுங்கோபி ஆக்கினைக்குள்ளாவான்; நீ அவனைத் தப்புவித்தால் திரும்பவும் தப்புவிக்கவேண்டியதாய் வரும்.
19A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty, for if you rescue him, you must do it again.
20உன் அந்தியகாலத்தில் நீ ஞானமுள்ளவனாயிருக்கும்படி, ஆலோசனையைக்கேட்டு, புத்திமதியை ஏற்றுக்கொள்.
20Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end.
21மனுஷனுடைய இருதயத்தின் எண்ணங்கள் அநேகம்; ஆனாலும் கர்த்தருடைய யோசனையே நிலைநிற்கும்.
21There are many plans in a man’s heart, but Yahweh’s counsel will prevail.
22நன்மைசெய்ய மனுஷன் கொண்டிருக்கும் ஆசையே தயை; பொய்யனைப் பார்க்கிலும் தரித்திரன் வாசி.
22That which makes a man to be desired is his kindness. A poor man is better than a liar.
23கர்த்தருக்குப் பயப்படுதல் ஜீவனுக்கேதுவானது; அதை அடைந்தவன் திருப்தியடைந்து நிலைத்திருப்பான்; தீமை அவனை அணுகாது.
23The fear of Yahweh leads to life, then contentment; he rests and will not be touched by trouble.
24சோம்பேறி தன் கையைக் கலத்திலே வைத்து, அதைத் திரும்பத் தன் வாயண்டைக்கு எடுக்காமலிருக்கிறான்.
24The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
25பரியாசக்காரனை அடி, அப்பொழுது பேதை எச்சரிக்கப்படுவான்; புத்திமானைக் கடிந்துகொள், அவன் அறிவுள்ளவனாவான்.
25Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge.
26தன் தகப்பனைக் கொள்ளையடித்து, தன் தாயைத் துரத்திவிடுகிறவன், இலச்சையையும் அவமானத்தையும் உண்டாக்குகிற மகன்.
26He who robs his father and drives away his mother, is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.
27என் மகனே, அறிவைத் தரும் வார்த்தைகளை விட்டு விலகச்செய்யும் போதகங்களை நீ கேளாதே.
27If you stop listening to instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.
28பேலியாளின் சாட்சிக்காரன் நியாயத்தை நிந்திக்கிறான்; துன்மார்க்கருடைய வாய் அக்கிரமத்தை விழுங்கும்.
28A corrupt witness mocks justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down iniquity.
29பரியாசக்காரருக்கு தண்டனைகளும், மூடருடைய முதுகுக்கு அடிகளும் ஆயத்தமாயிருக்கிறது.
29Penalties are prepared for scoffers, and beatings for the backs of fools.
