¹แล้วเรื่องที่พวกท่านเขียนมาถึงข้าพเจ้านั้น ขอตอบว่า การที่ผู้ชายไม่ยุ่งเกี่ยวกับผู้หญิงเลยก็ดีแล้ว

¹Now concerning the things about which you wrote to me: it is good for a man not to touch a woman.

²แต่เพื่อป้องกันการล่วงประเวณี ผู้ชายทุกคนควรมีภรรยาเป็นของตนและผู้หญิงทุกคนมีสามีเป็นของตน

²But, because of sexual immoralities, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.

³สามีพึงประพฤติต่อภรรยาตามควร และภรรยาก็พึงประพฤติต่อสามีตามควรเช่นเดียวกัน

³Let the husband render to his wife the affection owed her, and likewise also the wife to her husband.

⁴ภรรยาไม่มีอำนาจเหนือร่างกายของตน แต่สามีมีอำนาจเหนือร่างกายของภรรยา ทำนองเดียวกันสามีไม่มีอำนาจเหนือร่างกายของตน แต่ภรรยามีอำนาจเหนือร่างกายของสามี

⁴The wife doesn’t have authority over her own body, but the husband. Likewise also the husband doesn’t have authority over his own body, but the wife.

⁵อย่าปฏิเสธการอยู่ร่วมกันเว้นแต่ได้ตกลงกันเป็นการชั่วคราว เพื่ออุทิศตัวในการถืออดอาหารและการอธิษฐาน แล้วจึงค่อยมาอยู่ร่วมกันอีก เพื่อมิให้ซาตานชักจูงให้ทำผิด เพราะตัวอดไม่ได้

⁵Don’t deprive one another, unless it is by consent for a season, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer, and may be together again, that Satan doesn’t tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

⁶ข้าพเจ้ากล่าวเช่นนี้โดยได้รับอนุญาต มิใช่เป็นพระบัญชา

⁶But this I say by way of concession, not of commandment.

⁷ข้าพเจ้าปรารถนาที่จะให้ทุกคนเป็นเหมือนข้าพเจ้า แต่ทุกคนก็ได้รับของประทานจากพระเจ้าเหมาะกับตัว คนหนึ่งได้รับอย่างนี้ และอีกคนหนึ่งได้รับอย่างนั้น

⁷Yet I wish that all men were like me. However each man has his own gift from God, one of this kind, and another of that kind.

⁸เหตุฉะนั้นข้าพเจ้าขอกล่าวแก่คนที่ยังเป็นโสดและพวกแม่ม่ายว่า การที่เขาจะอยู่เหมือนข้าพเจ้าก็ดีแล้ว

⁸But I say to the unmarried and to widows, it is good for them if they remain even as I am.

⁹แต่ถ้าเขายั้งใจไม่ได้ก็จงแต่งงานเสียเถิด เพราะแต่งงานเสียก็ดีกว่ามีใจเร่าร้อนด้วยกามราคะ

⁹But if they don’t have self-control, let them marry. For it’s better to marry than to burn.

¹⁰ส่วนคนที่แต่งงานแล้วข้าพเจ้าขอสั่ง มิใช่ข้าพเจ้าสั่งเอง แต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงบัญชาว่า อย่าให้ภรรยาทิ้งสามี

¹⁰But to the married I command—not I, but the Lord—that the wife not leave her husband

¹¹แต่ถ้านางทิ้งสามีไปอย่าให้นางไปมีสามีใหม่ หรือไม่ก็ให้นางกลับมาคืนดีกับสามีเก่า และขออย่าให้สามีหย่าร้างภรรยาเลย

¹¹(but if she departs, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband not leave his wife.

¹²ข้าพเจ้าขอกล่าวแก่คนอื่นๆนอกจากพวกนี้ (องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้ามิได้ตรัส) ว่า ถ้าพี่น้องคนใดมีภรรยาที่ไม่เชื่อและนางพอใจที่จะอยู่กับสามี สามีก็ไม่ควรหย่านาง

¹²But to the rest I—not the Lord—say, if any brother has an unbelieving wife, and she is content to live with him, let him not leave her.

¹³ถ้าหญิงคนใดมีสามีที่ไม่เชื่อและสามีพอใจที่จะอยู่กับนาง นางก็ไม่ควรหย่าสามีนั้นเลย

¹³The woman who has an unbelieving husband, and he is content to live with her, let her not leave her husband.

¹⁴ด้วยว่าสามีที่ไม่เชื่อนั้นได้รับการทรงชำระให้บริสุทธิ์ทางภรรยา และภรรยาที่ไม่เชื่อก็ได้รับการทรงชำระให้บริสุทธิ์ทางสามี มิฉะนั้นลูกของท่านก็เป็นมลทิน แต่บัดนี้ลูกเหล่านั้นก็บริสุทธิ์

¹⁴For the unbelieving husband is sanctified in the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified in the husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy.

¹⁵แต่ถ้าคนที่ไม่เชื่อจะแยกไป ก็จงให้เขาไปเถิด เรื่องเช่นนี้ไม่จำเป็นที่พี่น้องชายหญิงจะผูกมัดให้จำใจอยู่ด้วยกัน เพราะว่าพระเจ้าได้ทรงเรียกเราให้อยู่อย่างสงบ

¹⁵Yet if the unbeliever departs, let there be separation. The brother or the sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called us in peace.

¹⁶โอ ท่านผู้เป็นภรรยา ไฉนท่านจะรู้ได้ว่าท่านจะช่วยสามีให้รอดได้หรือไม่ โอ ท่านผู้เป็นสามี ไฉนท่านจะรู้ได้ว่าท่านจะช่วยภรรยาให้รอดได้หรือไม่

¹⁶For how do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?

¹⁷แต่ตามที่พระเจ้าได้ทรงประทานฐานะแก่แต่ละคนอย่างไร เมื่อองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าได้ทรงเรียกให้เขามาแล้ว ก็ให้เขาดำรงอยู่ในฐานะนั้น ข้าพเจ้าขอสั่งให้คริสตจักรทั้งหมดทำตามดังนั้น

¹⁷Only, as the Lord has distributed to each man, as God has called each, so let him walk. So I command in all the assemblies.

¹⁸มีชายคนใดที่พระเจ้าทรงเรียกเมื่อเขาได้รับพิธีเข้าสุหนัตแล้วหรือ อย่าให้เขากลับเป็นเหมือนคนที่ไม่ได้เข้าสุหนัต หรือมีชายคนใดที่พระเจ้าทรงเรียกเมื่อเขามิได้เข้าสุหนัตหรือ อย่าให้เขาเข้าสุหนัตเลย

¹⁸Was anyone called having been circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Has anyone been called in uncircumcision? Let him not be circumcised.

¹⁹การเข้าสุหนัตไม่สำคัญอะไร และการไม่เข้าสุหนัตไม่สำคัญอะไร แต่การประพฤติตามพระบัญญัติของพระเจ้านั้นสำคัญ

¹⁹Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.

²⁰ให้ทุกคนอยู่ในฐานะที่เขาอยู่เมื่อพระเจ้าทรงเรียกนั้น

²⁰Let each man stay in that calling in which he was called.

²¹พระเจ้าทรงเรียกท่านเมื่อยังเป็นทาสอยู่หรือ ก็อย่ากระวนกระวายเพราะการเป็นทาสนั้น แต่ถ้าท่านสามารถไถ่ตัวออกได้ก็ควรไถ่ดีกว่า

²¹Were you called being a bondservant? Don’t let that bother you, but if you get an opportunity to become free, use it.

²²เพราะผู้ใดที่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงเรียกเมื่อยังเป็นทาสอยู่ ผู้นั้นเป็นเสรีชนขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า เช่นเดียวกันคนที่รับการทรงเรียกเมื่อเป็นเสรีชน คนนั้นเป็นผู้รับใช้ของพระคริสต์

²²For he who was called in the Lord being a bondservant is the Lord’s free man. Likewise he who was called being free is Christ’s bondservant.

²³พระเจ้าทรงซื้อท่านไว้แล้วตามราคา อย่าเข้าเป็นทาสของมนุษย์เลย

²³You were bought with a price. Don’t become bondservants of men.

²⁴พี่น้องทั้งหลาย ท่านทุกคนดำรงอยู่ในฐานะอันใดเมื่อพระเจ้าทรงเรียก ก็ให้ผู้นั้นอยู่กับพระเจ้าในฐานะนั้น

²⁴Brothers, let each man, in whatever condition he was called, stay in that condition with God.

²⁵แล้วเรื่องหญิงสาวพรหมจารีนั้น ข้าพเจ้าไม่ได้รับพระบัญชาจากองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า แต่ข้าพเจ้าก็ขอออกความเห็นในฐานะที่เป็นผู้ได้รับพระเมตตาจากองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า ให้เป็นผู้ที่ไว้ใจได้

²⁵Now concerning virgins, I have no commandment from the Lord, but I give my judgment as one who has obtained mercy from the Lord to be trustworthy.

²⁶ฉะนั้นเพราะเหตุความยากลำบากที่มีอยู่ในเวลานี้ ข้าพเจ้าเห็นว่า ทุกคนควรจะอยู่อย่างที่เขาอยู่เดี๋ยวนี้

²⁶I think that it is good therefore, because of the distress that is on us, that it is good for a man to be as he is.

²⁷ท่านมีภรรยาแล้วหรือ อย่าหาช่องที่จะหย่าภรรยาเลย ท่านหย่าจากภรรยาแล้วหรือ อย่าหาภรรยาเลย

²⁷Are you bound to a wife? Don’t seek to be freed. Are you free from a wife? Don’t seek a wife.

²⁸ถ้าท่านจะแต่งงานก็ไม่มีความผิด และถ้าหญิงสาวพรหมจารีจะแต่งงานก็ไม่มีความผิด แต่คนที่แต่งงานนั้นคงจะต้องยุ่งยากลำบากในฝ่ายเนื้อหนัง แต่ข้าพเจ้าปรารถนาที่จะให้ท่านพ้นจากความยุ่งยากนั้น

²⁸But if you marry, you have not sinned. If a virgin marries, she has not sinned. Yet such will have oppression in the flesh, and I want to spare you.

²⁹พี่น้องทั้งหลาย ข้าพเจ้าหมายความว่ายุคนี้ก็สั้นมากแล้ว ตั้งแต่นี้ไปให้คนเหล่านั้นที่มีภรรยาดำเนินชีวิตเหมือนกับไม่มีภรรยา

²⁹But I say this, brothers: the time is short, that from now on, both those who have wives may be as though they had none;

³⁰และให้คนที่เศร้าโศกเป็นเหมือนกับมิได้เศร้าโศก และผู้ที่ชื่นชมยินดีให้ได้เป็นเหมือนกับมิได้ชื่นชมยินดี และผู้ที่ซื้อก็ให้ดำเนินชีวิตเหมือนกับว่าเขาไม่มีกรรมสิทธิ์เหนืออะไรเลย

³⁰and those who weep, as though they didn’t weep; and those who rejoice, as though they didn’t rejoice; and those who buy, as though they didn’t possess;

³¹และคนที่ใช้ของโลกนี้ให้เป็นเหมือนกับมิได้ใช้อย่างเต็มที่เลย เพราะความนิยมของโลกนี้กำลังล่วงไป

³¹and those who use the world, as not using it to the fullest. For the mode of this world passes away.

³²ข้าพเจ้าอยากให้ท่านพ้นจากความสาละวนวุ่นวาย ฝ่ายคนที่ไม่มีภรรยาก็สาละวนในการงานขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า เพื่อจะทำสิ่งซึ่งเป็นที่พอพระทัยองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า

³²But I desire to have you to be free from cares. He who is unmarried is concerned for the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord;

³³แต่คนที่มีภรรยาแล้วก็สาละวนในการงานของโลกนี้เพื่อจะทำสิ่งที่พอใจของภรรยา

³³but he who is married is concerned about the things of the world, how he may please his wife.

³⁴มีความแตกต่างกันด้วยระหว่างภรรยาและสาวพรหมจารี หญิงที่ยังไม่แต่งงานก็สาละวนในการงานขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า เพื่อจะได้เป็นคนบริสุทธิ์ทั้งกายและจิตใจ แต่หญิงที่มีสามีแล้วก็สาละวนในการงานของโลกนี้เพื่อจะทำสิ่งซึ่งเป็นที่พอใจของสามี

³⁴There is also a difference between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman cares about the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit. But she who is married cares about the things of the world—how she may please her husband.

³⁵ข้าพเจ้าว่าอย่างนี้ก็เพื่อเป็นประโยชน์ของท่าน มิใช่จะเอาบ่วงบาศคล้องท่านแต่เพื่อความเป็นระเบียบ ให้ท่านปฏิบัติองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าโดยปราศจากใจสองฝักสองฝ่าย

³⁵This I say for your own profit; not that I may ensnare you, but for that which is appropriate, and that you may attend to the Lord without distraction.

³⁶แต่ถ้าชายใดคิดว่าเขาปฏิบัติต่อสาวพรหมจารีของเขาอย่างสมควรไม่ได้ และถ้าหญิงนั้นมีอายุผ่านวัยหนุ่มสาวแล้ว และต้องทำอย่างใดอย่างหนึ่งก็ให้เขาทำตามปรารถนา จงให้เขาแต่งงานเสีย เขาไม่ได้ทำผิดสิ่งใด

³⁶But if any man thinks that he is behaving inappropriately toward his virgin, if she is past the flower of her age, and if need so requires, let him do what he desires. He doesn’t sin. Let them marry.

³⁷แต่ชายใดที่ตั้งใจแน่วแน่และเห็นว่าไม่มีความจำเป็น แต่เขาบังคับใจตนเองได้ และตั้งใจว่าจะให้หญิงนั้นเป็นพรหมจารีต่อไป เขาก็กระทำดีแล้ว

³⁷But he who stands steadfast in his heart, having no necessity, but has power over his own heart, to keep his own virgin, does well.

³⁸เหตุฉะนั้นผู้ใดที่ให้หญิงนั้นแต่งงานก็ทำดีอยู่ แต่ผู้ที่ไม่ให้แต่งงานก็ทำดีกว่า

³⁸So then both he who gives his own virgin in marriage does well, and he who doesn’t give her in marriage does better.

³⁹ตราบใดที่สามียังมีชีวิตอยู่ ภรรยาก็ต้องอยู่กับสามีตามกฎหมาย ถ้าสามีตาย นางก็เป็นอิสระจะแต่งงานกับชายใดก็ได้ตามใจ ในองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าเท่านั้น

³⁹A wife is bound by law for as long as her husband lives; but if the husband is dead, she is free to be married to whomever she desires, only in the Lord.

⁴⁰แต่ตามความเห็นของข้าพเจ้าก็เห็นว่าถ้านางอยู่คนเดียวจะเป็นสุขกว่า และข้าพเจ้าคิดว่าพระวิญญาณของพระเจ้าทรงสถิตอยู่ฝ่ายข้าพเจ้าด้วย

⁴⁰But she is happier if she stays as she is, in my judgment, and I think that I also have God’s Spirit.
