1ดาวิดก็หนีจากนาโยทในเมืองรามาห์ และมาหาโยนาธานกล่าวว่า "ข้าพเจ้าได้กระทำสิ่งใด อะไรเป็นความชั่วช้าของข้าพเจ้า และข้าพเจ้าได้กระทำความผิดบาปอันใดต่อเสด็จพ่อของท่าน พระองค์จึงได้แสวงชีวิตของข้าพเจ้า"
1David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, “What have I done? What is my iniquity? What is my sin before your father, that he seeks my life?”
2และโยนาธานจึงตอบเธอว่า "ขอพระเจ้าอย่ายอมให้เป็นเช่นนั้นเลย เธอไม่ต้องตายดอก ดูเถิด เสด็จพ่อจะมิได้ทรงกระทำการใหญ่น้อยสิ่งใดโดยมิให้ฉันรู้ ทำไมเสด็จพ่อจะปิดบังเรื่องนี้จากฉันเล่า คงไม่เป็นเช่นนั้นแน่"
2He said to him, “Far from it; you shall not die. Behold, my father does nothing either great or small, but that he discloses it to me; and why should my father hide this thing from me? It is not so.”
3ดาวิดจึงปฏิญาณยิ่งกว่านั้นอีกและกล่าวว่า "เสด็จพ่อของท่านทรงทราบอย่างแน่นอนว่า ข้าพเจ้าได้รับความกรุณาในสายตาของท่าน และพระองค์ตรัสว่า `อย่าให้โยนาธานรู้เรื่องนี้เลย เกรงว่าเขาจะเศร้าใจ' พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงพระชนม์อยู่แน่ฉันใด และท่านมีชีวิตอยู่แน่ฉันใด ความจริงมีอยู่ว่า ระหว่างข้าพเจ้ากับความตายก็ยังเหลืออีกเพียงก้าวเดียวฉันนั้น"
3David swore moreover, and said, “Your father knows well that I have found favor in your eyes; and he says, ‘Don’t let Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved:’ but truly as Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.”
4โยนาธานจึงพูดกับดาวิดว่า "จิตใจเธอปรารถนาอะไร ฉันจะทำตามเพื่อเธอ"
4Then Jonathan said to David, “Whatever your soul desires, I will even do it for you.”
5ดาวิดจึงกล่าวกับโยนาธานว่า "ดูเถิด พรุ่งนี้เป็นวันขึ้นค่ำ ข้าพเจ้าไม่ควรขาดที่จะนั่งร่วมโต๊ะเสวยกับกษัตริย์ แต่ขอโปรดให้ข้าพเจ้าไปซ่อนตัวอยู่ที่ในทุ่งนาจนถึงเย็นวันที่สาม
5David said to Jonathan, “Behold, tomorrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to dine with the king; but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field to the third day at evening.
6ถ้าเสด็จพ่อของท่านเห็นข้าพเจ้าขาดไป ก็ขอโปรดทูลพระองค์ว่า `ดาวิดได้วิงวอนขอลาข้าพระองค์รีบกลับไปเมืองเบธเลเฮมเมืองของตน เพราะที่นั่นทั้งครอบครัวทำการถวายสัตวบูชาประจำปี'
6If your father miss me at all, then say, ‘David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Bethlehem his city; for it is the yearly sacrifice there for all the family.’
7ถ้าพระองค์รับสั่งว่า `ดีแล้ว' ผู้รับใช้ของท่านก็ดีไป แต่ถ้าพระองค์ทรงกริ้ว ก็ขอทราบเถิดว่า พระองค์ดำริการร้าย
7If he says, ‘It is well;’ your servant shall have peace: but if he be angry, then know that evil is determined by him.
8เพราะฉะนั้นขอท่านกรุณากระทำแก่ผู้รับใช้ของท่านด้วยใจจงรัก เพราะท่านได้กระทำพันธสัญญาแห่งพระเยโฮวาห์กับผู้รับใช้ของท่านแล้ว แต่ถ้าความชั่วช้ามีอยู่ในข้าพเจ้า ขอท่านฆ่าข้าพเจ้าเสียเองเถิด เพราะท่านจะนำข้าพเจ้าไปให้เสด็จพ่อของท่านทำไม"
8Therefore deal kindly with your servant; for you have brought your servant into a covenant of Yahweh with you: but if there is iniquity in me, kill me yourself; for why should you bring me to your father?”
9โยนาธานจึงกล่าวว่า "อย่าให้มีวี่แววอย่างนี้เลยน่ะ ถ้าฉันทราบว่าเสด็จพ่อคิดร้ายต่อเธอ ฉันจะไม่ไปบอกเธอหรือ"
9Jonathan said, “Far be it from you; for if I should at all know that evil were determined by my father to come on you, then wouldn’t I tell you that?”
10แล้วดาวิดก็กล่าวแก่โยนาธานว่า "ถ้าเสด็จพ่อของท่านตอบท่านอย่างดุดัน ใครจะบอกแก่ข้าพเจ้าได้"
10Then David said to Jonathan, “Who shall tell me if perchance your father answers you roughly?”
11และโยนาธานบอกดาวิดว่า "มาเถิด ให้เราเข้าไปในทุ่งนา" เขาทั้งสองจึงเข้าไปในทุ่งนา
11Jonathan said to David, “Come, and let us go out into the field.” They both went out into the field.
12และโยนาธานกล่าวแก่ดาวิดว่า "โอ พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าแห่งอิสราเอล เมื่อฉันได้หยั่งดูเสด็จพ่อของฉันในวันพรุ่งนี้ประมาณเวลานี้ หรือในวันที่สาม ดูเถิด ถ้ามีอะไรดีต่อดาวิด และฉันจะไม่ใช้คนไปบอกเธอทีเดียว
12Jonathan said to David, “By Yahweh, the God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about this time tomorrow, or the third day, behold, if there is good toward David, shall I not then send to you, and disclose it to you?
13ขอพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงลงโทษแก่โยนาธานและยิ่งหนักกว่า แต่ถ้าเสด็จพ่อพอพระทัยที่จะทำร้ายเธอ ฉันจะบอกเธอให้ทราบ และส่งให้เธอหนีไปให้พ้นภัย ขอพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงสถิตกับเธอ อย่างที่พระองค์ทรงสถิตกับเสด็จพ่อของฉัน
13Yahweh do so to Jonathan, and more also, should it please my father to do you evil, if I don’t disclose it to you, and send you away, that you may go in peace: and Yahweh be with you, as he has been with my father.
14ถ้าฉันยังมีชีวิตอยู่ต่อไป ขอเธอสำแดงความเมตตาแห่งพระเยโฮวาห์ต่อฉัน เพื่อฉันจะไม่ต้องตาย
14You shall not only while yet I live show me the loving kindness of Yahweh, that I not die;
15ขออย่าตัดความกรุณาของเธอที่มีต่อวงศ์วานของฉันเป็นนิตย์ ในเมื่อพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงกำจัดศัตรูทุกคนของดาวิดเสียจากพื้นพิภพแล้ว"
15but also you shall not cut off your kindness from my house forever; no, not when Yahweh has cut off the enemies of David everyone from the surface of the earth.”
16โยนาธานจึงทำพันธสัญญากับวงศ์วานของดาวิดว่า "ขอพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงแก้แค้นต่อศัตรูของดาวิดเถิด"
16So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, “Yahweh will require it at the hand of David’s enemies.”
17และโยนาธานก็ให้ดาวิดปฏิญาณอีกครั้งหนึ่งโดยความรักของท่านที่มีต่อเธอ เพราะท่านรักเธออย่างกับรักชีวิตของตนเอง
17Jonathan caused David to swear again, for the love that he had to him; for he loved him as he loved his own soul.
18แล้วโยนาธานจึงพูดกับดาวิดว่า "พรุ่งนี้เป็นวันขึ้นค่ำ และเขาจะเห็นว่าเธอขาดไป เพราะที่นั่งของเธอจะว่างอยู่
18Then Jonathan said to him, “Tomorrow is the new moon: and you will be missed, because your seat will be empty.
19เมื่อเธออยู่สามวันแล้ว เธอจงลงไปโดยเร็ว ไปยังที่ที่เธอได้ซ่อนตัวอยู่ ในวันแห่งการกระทำนั้น และคอยอยู่ข้างศิลาเอเซล
19When you have stayed three days, you shall go down quickly, and come to the place where you hid yourself when this started, and shall remain by the stone Ezel.
20ฉันจะยิงลูกธนูสามลูกไปข้างๆที่นั่น อย่างกับว่าฉันยิงเป้า
20I will shoot three arrows on its side, as though I shot at a mark.
21และดูเถิด ฉันจะใช้เด็กไปสั่งว่า `จงไปหาลูกธนู' ถ้าฉันพูดกับเด็กนั้นว่า `ดูเถิด ลูกธนูอยู่ทางข้างนี้ของเจ้า ไปเอามา' แล้วขอเธอเข้ามา เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงพระชนม์แน่ฉันใด เธอก็ปลอดภัยแล้ว ไม่มีอันตรายอันใดฉันนั้น
21Behold, I will send the boy, saying, ‘Go, find the arrows!’ If I tell the boy, ‘Behold, the arrows are on this side of you. Take them;’ then come; for there is peace to you and no hurt, as Yahweh lives.
22แต่ถ้าฉันพูดกับเด็กหนุ่มนั้นว่า `ดูเถิด ลูกธนูอยู่ข้างหน้าเจ้าโน้น' เธอจงไปเถิด เพราะว่าพระเยโฮวาห์ได้ทรงส่งเธอไปแล้ว
22But if I say this to the boy, ‘Behold, the arrows are beyond you;’ then go your way; for Yahweh has sent you away.
23ส่วนเรื่องที่เธอและฉันได้พูดกันนั้น ดูเถิด พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงเป็นพยานระหว่างเธอและฉันเป็นนิตย์"
23Concerning the matter which you and I have spoken of, behold, Yahweh is between you and me forever.”
24ดาวิดจึงซ่อนตัวอยู่ในทุ่งนา และเมื่อถึงวันขึ้นค่ำ กษัตริย์ก็ประทับเสวยพระกระยาหาร
24So David hid himself in the field: and when the new moon had come, the king sat him down to eat food.
25กษัตริย์ประทับบนพระที่นั่งของพระองค์อย่างที่เคยทรงกระทำ คือประทับที่พระที่นั่งข้างๆฝาผนัง โยนาธานยืนอยู่และอับเนอร์นั่งอยู่ข้างซาอูล แต่ที่ของดาวิดก็ว่างอยู่
25The king sat on his seat, as at other times, even on the seat by the wall; and Jonathan stood up, and Abner sat by Saul’s side: but David’s place was empty.
26อย่างไรก็ดีในวันนั้นซาอูลมิได้ตรัสประการใด เพราะทรงดำริว่า "ดาวิดคงเกิดเหตุบางอย่าง เขาคงมลทิน เขาคงมลทินแน่"
26Nevertheless Saul didn’t say anything that day: for he thought, “Something has happened to him. He is not clean. Surely he is not clean.”
27อยู่มาวันรุ่งขึ้น คือวันที่สองของเดือน ที่ของดาวิดก็ว่างอยู่ และซาอูลก็ตรัสกับโยนาธานราชบุตรของพระองค์ว่า "ทำไมบุตรเจสซีมิได้มารับประทานอาหาร ทั้งวานนี้และวันนี้"
27It happened on the next day after the new moon, the second day, that David’s place was empty. Saul said to Jonathan his son, “Why doesn’t the son of Jesse come to eat, neither yesterday, nor today?”
28โยนาธานทูลตอบซาอูลว่า "ดาวิดได้วิงวอนขอลาข้าพระองค์ไปยังบ้านเบธเลเฮม
28Jonathan answered Saul, “David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Bethlehem.
29เขาว่า `ข้าพเจ้าขอร้องให้ท่านอนุญาตให้ข้าพเจ้าไป เพราะครอบครัวของข้าพเจ้ามีการถวายสัตวบูชาในเมือง และพี่ชายของข้าพเจ้าสั่งให้ข้าพเจ้าไปที่นั่น บัดนี้ถ้าข้าพเจ้าได้รับความกรุณาในสายตาของท่าน ข้าพเจ้าก็ขอร้องให้ท่านอนุญาตให้ข้าพเจ้าไปเยี่ยมพี่ชายของข้าพเจ้า' ด้วยเหตุนี้เขาจึงมิได้มาที่โต๊ะของกษัตริย์"
29He said, ‘Please let me go, for our family has a sacrifice in the city. My brother has commanded me to be there. Now, if I have found favor in your eyes, please let me go away and see my brothers.’ Therefore he has not come to the king’s table.”
30แล้วความกริ้วของซาอูลก็พลุ่งขึ้นต่อโยนาธาน พระองค์ตรัสกับท่านว่า "เจ้า ลูกของหญิงกบฏและวิปลาส ข้าไม่รู้หรือว่าเจ้าเลือกบุตรเจสซีมาให้ความอับอายแก่เจ้าเองและให้ความอับอายแก่ความเปลือยเปล่าแห่งแม่ของเจ้า
30Then Saul’s anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, “You son of a perverse rebellious woman, don’t I know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own shame, and to the shame of your mother’s nakedness?
31ตราบใดที่ลูกของเจสซีมีชีวิตอยู่บนดิน ตัวเจ้าหรือราชอาณาจักรของเจ้าก็จะตั้งอยู่ไม่ได้ เพราะฉะนั้นจงใช้คนไปตามเขามาให้เรา เพราะเขาจะต้องตายแน่"
31For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, you shall not be established, nor your kingdom. Therefore now send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die!”
32แล้วโยนาธานจึงทูลตอบซาอูลพระราชบิดาของท่านว่า "ทำไมเขาจะต้องถูกประหาร เขาได้กระทำผิดสิ่งใดพระเจ้าข้า"
32Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him, “Why should he be put to death? What has he done?”
33แต่ซาอูลได้ทรงพุ่งหอกใส่ท่านเพื่อจะฆ่าท่าน ดังนั้นโยนาธานจึงทราบว่า พระราชบิดาของท่านหมายฆ่าดาวิดเสีย
33Saul cast his spear at him to strike him. By this Jonathan knew that his father was determined to put David to death.
34โยนาธานจึงลุกขึ้นจากโต๊ะด้วยความโกรธยิ่งนัก มิได้รับประทานอาหารในวันที่สองของเดือนนั้น เพราะท่านเศร้าใจด้วยเรื่องดาวิด เพราะว่าพระราชบิดาของท่านได้หยามน้ำหน้าดาวิด
34So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and ate no food the second day of the month; for he was grieved for David, because his father had done him shame.
35ต่อมารุ่งเช้าขึ้นโยนาธานก็ออกไปที่ทุ่งนาตามที่นัดหมายไว้กับดาวิด มีเด็กไปด้วยคนหนึ่ง
35It happened in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little boy with him.
36และท่านสั่งเด็กนั้นว่า "จงวิ่งไปหาลูกธนูที่ฉันยิงไป" เมื่อเด็กนั้นวิ่งไป โยนาธานก็ยิงธนูลูกหนึ่งขึ้นหน้าไป
36He said to his boy, “Run, find now the arrows which I shoot.” As the boy ran, he shot an arrow beyond him.
37และเมื่อเด็กนั้นมาถึงที่ที่ลูกธนูซึ่งโยนาธานยิงไปนั้น โยนาธานก็ร้องสั่งเด็กนั้นว่า "ลูกธนูอยู่ข้างหน้าโน้นไม่ใช่หรือ"
37When the boy had come to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried after the boy, and said, “Isn’t the arrow beyond you?”
38และโยนาธานร้องสั่งเด็กนั้นว่า "จงรีบไปโดยเร็วอย่าหยุดอยู่" เด็กของโยนาธานก็ไปเก็บลูกธนู และกลับมาหานายของตน
38Jonathan cried after the boy, “Go fast! Hurry! Don’t delay!” Jonathan’s boy gathered up the arrows, and came to his master.
39แต่เด็กนั้นไม่ทราบเรื่อง โยนาธานและดาวิดเท่านั้นที่ทราบ
39But the boy didn’t know anything. Only Jonathan and David knew the matter.
40และโยนาธานก็มอบอาวุธของท่านให้เด็กนั้น และบอกเขาว่า "ไป จงแบกสิ่งเหล่านี้ไปในเมือง"
40Jonathan gave his weapons to his boy, and said to him, “Go, carry them to the city.”
41เมื่อเด็กนั้นไปแล้ว ดาวิดก็ลุกขึ้นมาจากที่ที่อยู่ทิศใต้ ซบหน้าลงถึงดิน แล้วกราบลงสามครั้ง และทั้งสองก็จุบกัน และร้องไห้กัน จนดาวิดร้องมากเหลือเกิน
41As soon as the boy was gone, David arose out of the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times. They kissed one another, and wept one with another, and David wept the most.
42โยนาธานจึงกล่าวกับดาวิดว่า "ขอจงไปเป็นสุขเถิด เพราะเราทั้งสองได้ปฏิญาณไว้แล้วในพระนามแห่งพระเยโฮวาห์ว่า `พระเยโฮวาห์จะทรงเป็นพยานระหว่างฉันและเธอ และระหว่างเชื้อสายของฉันกับเชื้อสายของเธอสืบไปเป็นนิตย์'" ดาวิดก็ลุกขึ้นจากไป และโยนาธานก็เข้าไปในเมือง
42Jonathan said to David, “Go in peace, because we have both sworn in the name of Yahweh, saying, ‘Yahweh shall be between me and you, and between my seed and your seed, forever.’” He arose and departed; and Jonathan went into the city.
