1บัดนี้ พระวิญญาณได้ตรัสไว้อย่างชัดแจ้งว่า ในกาลภายหลังจะมีบางคนละทิ้งความเชื่อ โดยหันไปเชื่อฟังวิญญาณที่ล่อลวง และฟังคำสอนของพวกผีปิศาจ
1But the Spirit says expressly that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons,
2การหน้าซื่อใจคดของคนที่พูดโกหก คือทำไปทั้งรู้ๆเหมือนอย่างกับเอาเหล็กแดงนาบลงไปบนจิตสำนึกผิดชอบของเขา
2through the hypocrisy of men who speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron;
3เขาห้ามไม่ให้ทำการสมรส ห้ามรับประทานอาหารซึ่งพระเจ้าทรงสร้างไว้ให้ผู้ที่เชื่อและรู้จักความจริงรับประทานด้วยขอบพระคุณ
3forbidding marriage and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
4ด้วยว่าสิ่งสารพัดซึ่งพระเจ้าได้ทรงสร้างไว้นั้นเป็นของดี ถ้าแม้รับประทานด้วยขอบพระคุณ ก็ไม่ห้ามเลยสักสิ่งเดียว
4For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it is received with thanksgiving.
5เพราะว่าสิ่งเหล่านั้นเป็นของที่ชำระไว้แล้วโดยพระวจนะของพระเจ้าและคำอธิษฐาน
5For it is sanctified through the word of God and prayer.
6ถ้าท่านจะให้พวกพี่น้องระลึกถึงสิ่งเหล่านี้ ท่านก็จะเป็นผู้รับใช้ที่ดีของพระเยซูคริสต์ เจริญด้วยพระวจนะแห่งความเชื่อ และด้วยหลักคำสั่งสอนอันดีที่ท่านได้ประพฤติตามนั้น
6If you instruct the brothers of these things, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished in the words of the faith, and of the good doctrine which you have followed.
7แต่จงหลีกเลี่ยงจากนิยายอันหยาบคาย และนิยายซึ่งยายเคยเล่าให้ฟังนั้น จงฝึกตนในทางที่เป็นอย่างพระเจ้า
7But refuse profane and old wives’ fables. Exercise yourself toward godliness.
8เพราะว่าการฝึกทางกายนั้นมีประโยชน์อยู่บ้าง แต่ทางของพระเจ้าก็มีประโยชน์ในทุกทาง คือมีพระสัญญาสำหรับชีวิตปัจจุบันและชีวิตอนาคตด้วย
8For bodily exercise has some value, but godliness has value in all things, having the promise of the life which is now, and of that which is to come.
9คำนี้เป็นคำสัตย์จริงและสมควรที่คนทั้งปวงจะรับไว้
9This saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance.
10ด้วยเหตุนี้ เราจึงตรากตรำทำงานและทนสู้ ก็เพราะเรามีความหวังใจในพระเจ้าผู้ดำรงพระชนม์ ผู้ทรงเป็นพระผู้ช่วยให้รอดของคนทั้งปวง โดยเฉพาะของผู้ที่เชื่อ
10For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we have set our trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.
11จงบัญชาและสั่งสอนสิ่งเหล่านี้
11Command and teach these things.
12อย่าให้ผู้ใดดูหมิ่นความหนุ่มแน่นของท่าน แต่จงเป็นแบบอย่างของคนทั้งหลายที่เชื่อ ทั้งในทางวาจา ในการประพฤติ ในความรัก ในน้ำใจ ในความเชื่อ และในความบริสุทธิ์
12Let no man despise your youth; but be an example to those who believe, in word, in your way of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity.
13จงใฝ่ใจในการอ่าน ในการเทศนา และในการสั่งสอน จนกว่าเราจะมา
13Until I come, pay attention to reading, to exhortation, and to teaching.
14อย่าละเลยของประทานที่มีอยู่ในตัวท่าน ซึ่งได้ทรงประทานแก่ท่านตามคำพยากรณ์ เมื่อคณะเพรสไบเตรีได้เอามือวางบนท่าน
14Don’t neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the elders.
15จงเอาใจใส่ในข้อความเหล่านี้ ฝังตัวท่านไว้ในการนี้ทีเดียว เพื่อความจำเริญของท่านจะได้ปรากฏแจ้งแก่คนทั้งปวง
15Be diligent in these things. Give yourself wholly to them, that your progress may be revealed to all.
16จงระวังตัวท่านและคำสอนของท่าน จงยึดข้อที่กล่าวนี้ให้มั่น เพราะเมื่อกระทำดังนั้น ท่านจะช่วยทั้งตัวท่านเองและคนทั้งปวงที่ฟังท่านให้รอดได้
16Pay attention to yourself, and to your teaching. Continue in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
