¹โยสิยาห์มีพระชนมายุแปดพรรษาเมื่อเริ่มครอบครอง และพระองค์ทรงครอบครองในกรุงเยรูซาเล็มสามสิบเอ็ดปี พระมารดาของพระองค์มีพระนามว่า เยดีดาห์บุตรสาวของอาดายาห์ชาวโบสคาท

¹Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.

²และพระองค์ได้ทรงกระทำสิ่งที่ถูกต้องในสายพระเนตรของพระเยโฮวาห์ และทรงดำเนินในมรรคาทั้งสิ้นของดาวิดบรรพบุรุษของพระองค์ และมิได้ทรงหันไปทางขวามือหรือซ้ายมือ

²He did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, and walked in all the way of David his father, and didn’t turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

³และอยู่มาในปีที่สิบแปดแห่งรัชกาลกษัตริย์โยสิยาห์ กษัตริย์ทรงใช้ชาฟานบุตรชายอาซาลิยาห์ บุตรชายเมชุลลามราชเลขา ไปยังพระนิเวศของพระเยโฮวาห์ รับสั่งว่า

³It happened in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of Yahweh, saying,

⁴"จงขึ้นไปหาฮิลคียาห์มหาปุโรหิต เพื่อให้ท่านรวมเงินซึ่งเขานำเข้ามาในพระนิเวศของพระเยโฮวาห์ ซึ่งผู้รักษาธรณีประตูได้เก็บจากประชาชน

⁴“Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the money which is brought into the house of Yahweh, which the keepers of the threshold have gathered of the people.

⁵และให้มอบไว้ในมือของคนงานผู้ดูแลพระนิเวศของพระเยโฮวาห์ และให้เขาจ่ายแก่คนงานผู้ที่อยู่ ณ พระนิเวศของพระเยโฮวาห์ ที่ทำการซ่อมแซมพระนิเวศอยู่

⁵Let them deliver it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of Yahweh; and let them give it to the workmen who are in the house of Yahweh, to repair the breaches of the house,

⁶คือให้แก่ช่างไม้ และแก่ช่างก่อสร้าง และแก่ช่างปูน ทั้งสำหรับซื้อตัวไม้และหินสกัดเพื่อซ่อมแซมพระนิเวศ"

⁶to the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the house.

⁷แต่ไม่ได้ขอบัญชีจากเขาเรื่องเงินที่จ่ายใส่มือของเขา เพราะเขากระทำด้วยความสัตย์ซื่อ

⁷However there was no accounting made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand; for they dealt faithfully.”

⁸และฮิลคียาห์มหาปุโรหิตพูดกับชาฟานราชเลขาว่า "ข้าพเจ้าได้พบหนังสือพระราชบัญญัติในพระนิเวศของพระเยโฮวาห์" และฮิลคียาห์ได้มอบหนังสือนั้นให้ชาฟานและท่านก็อ่าน

⁸Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in the house of Yahweh.” Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

⁹และชาฟานราชเลขาได้เข้าเฝ้ากษัตริย์และทูลรายงานต่อกษัตริย์อีกว่า "ผู้รับใช้ของพระองค์ได้เทเงินที่พบในพระนิเวศออก และได้มอบไว้ในมือของคนงานผู้ดูแลพระนิเวศของพระเยโฮวาห์"

⁹Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of Yahweh.”

¹⁰แล้วชาฟานราชเลขาได้ทูลกษัตริย์ว่า "ฮิลคียาห์ปุโรหิตได้มอบหนังสือแก่ข้าพระองค์ม้วนหนึ่ง" และชาฟานก็อ่านถวายกษัตริย์

¹⁰Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered a book to me.” Shaphan read it before the king.

¹¹และอยู่มาเมื่อกษัตริย์ได้ฟังถ้อยคำของหนังสือแห่งพระราชบัญญัติ พระองค์ทรงฉีกฉลองพระองค์

¹¹It happened, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he tore his clothes.

¹²และกษัตริย์ทรงบัญชาฮิลคียาห์ปุโรหิต และอาหิคัมบุตรชายชาฟาน และอัคโบร์บุตรชายมีคายาห์ และชาฟานราชเลขา และอาสายาห์ผู้รับใช้ของกษัตริย์ รับสั่งว่า

¹²The king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Micaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,

¹³"จงไปทูลถามพระเยโฮวาห์ให้เรา ให้ประชาชนและให้ยูดาห์ทั้งหมดเกี่ยวกับถ้อยคำในหนังสือนี้ที่ได้พบ เพราะว่า พระพิโรธของพระเยโฮวาห์ซึ่งพลุ่งขึ้นต่อเราทั้งหลายนั้นใหญ่หลวงนัก เพราะว่าบรรพบุรุษของเรามิได้เชื่อฟังถ้อยคำของหนังสือนี้ กระทำทุกสิ่งซึ่งเขียนไว้เกี่ยวกับเราทั้งหลาย"

¹³“Go inquire of Yahweh for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found; for great is the wrath of Yahweh that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book, to do according to all that which is written concerning us.”

¹⁴ฮิลคียาห์ปุโรหิต และอาหิคัม และอัคโบร์ และชาฟาน และอาสายาห์ ได้ไปหาฮุลดาห์หญิงผู้พยากรณ์ภรรยาของชัลลูม บุตรชายของทิกวาห์บุตรชายฮารฮัสผู้ดูแลตู้เสื้อ (เวลานั้นนางอยู่ในเยรูซาเล็มแขวงสอง) และเขาทั้งหลายได้สนทนากับนาง

¹⁴So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asaiah, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter); and they talked with her.

¹⁵และนางตอบพวกเขาว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าแห่งอิสราเอลตรัสดังนี้ว่า `จงบอกชายคนที่ใช้พวกเจ้ามาหาเรานั้นว่า

¹⁵She said to them, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,

¹⁶"พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้ว่า ดูเถิด เราจะนำเหตุร้ายมาเหนือสถานที่นี้ และเหนือชาวเมืองนี้ ตามบรรดาถ้อยคำในหนังสือซึ่งกษัตริย์แห่งยูดาห์ได้อ่านนั้น

¹⁶“Thus says Yahweh, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place, and on its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read.

¹⁷เพราะเขาทั้งหลายได้ทอดทิ้งเรา และได้เผาเครื่องหอมถวายพระอื่น เพื่อเขาจะได้กระทำให้เราโกรธด้วยผลงานทั้งสิ้นแห่งมือของเขา เพราะฉะนั้นความพิโรธของเราจึงจะพลุ่งขึ้นต่อสถานที่นี้ และจะดับเสียไม่ได้"

¹⁷Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and it shall not be quenched.’”

¹⁸แต่ฝ่ายกษัตริย์แห่งยูดาห์ผู้ได้ส่งเจ้ามาถามพระเยโฮวาห์นั้น เจ้าจงไปบอกเขาว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าแห่งอิสราเอลตรัสดังนี้ว่า เกี่ยวกับเรื่องถ้อยคำที่เจ้าได้ยิน

¹⁸But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Yahweh, thus you shall tell him, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: ‘Concerning the words which you have heard,

¹⁹เพราะจิตใจของเจ้าอ่อนโยน และเจ้าได้ถ่อมตัวลงต่อพระพักตร์พระเยโฮวาห์ เมื่อเจ้าได้ยินเรากล่าวต่อต้านสถานที่นี้และต่อต้านชาวเมืองนี้ว่าเขาจะต้องกลายเป็นที่รกร้างและที่ถูกสาป และเจ้าได้ฉีกเสื้อและร้องไห้ต่อหน้าเรา เราก็ได้ยินเจ้าแล้วด้วย พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้แหละ

¹⁹because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before Yahweh, when you heard what I spoke against this place, and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and have torn your clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard you,’ says Yahweh.

²⁰เพราะฉะนั้น ดูเถิด เราจะรวบเจ้าไปไว้กับบรรพบุรุษของเจ้า และเจ้าจะถูกรวบไปยังอุโมงค์ของเจ้าอย่างสันติ และตาของเจ้าจะไม่เห็นเหตุร้ายทั้งสิ้นซึ่งเราจะนำมาเหนือที่นี้"'" และเขาทั้งหลายก็ได้นำถ้อยคำเหล่านั้นมาทูลกษัตริย์อีก

²⁰‘Therefore behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, neither shall your eyes see all the evil which I will bring on this place.’”’” They brought back this message to the king.
