¹แล้วคราวนั้นกษัตริย์เฮโรดได้เหยียดพระหัตถ์ออกทำร้ายบางคนในคริสตจักร

¹Now about that time, King Herod stretched out his hands to oppress some of the assembly.

²ท่านได้ฆ่ายากอบพี่ชายของยอห์นด้วยดาบ

²He killed James, the brother of John, with the sword.

³เมื่อท่านเห็นว่าการนั้นเป็นที่ชอบใจพวกยิว ท่านก็จับเปโตรด้วย (นี่เป็นระหว่างเทศกาลขนมปังไร้เชื้อ)

³When he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This was during the days of unleavened bread.

⁴เมื่อจับเปโตรแล้วจึงให้จำคุก ให้ทหารสี่หมู่ๆละสี่คนคุมไว้ ตั้งใจว่าเมื่อสิ้นเทศกาลปัสกาแล้วจะพาออกมาให้แก่คนทั้งหลาย

⁴When he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of four soldiers each to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people after the Passover.

⁵เพราะฉะนั้นเปโตรจึงถูกจำไว้ในคุก แต่ว่าคริสตจักรได้อธิษฐานต่อพระเจ้าเพื่อเปโตรโดยไม่หยุด

⁵Peter therefore was kept in the prison, but constant prayer was made by the assembly to God for him.

⁶ในคืนวันนั้นเอง ครั้นเฮโรดจะพาเปโตรออกมา เปโตรนอนหลับอยู่ระหว่างทหารสองคน มีโซ่สองเส้นล่ามไว้ และคนยามเฝ้าอยู่หน้าประตูคุก

⁶The same night when Herod was about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains. Guards in front of the door kept the prison.

⁷ดูเถิด มีทูตสวรรค์ขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้ามาปรากฏ และมีแสงสว่างส่องเข้ามาในคุก ทูตองค์นั้นจึงกระตุ้นเปโตรที่สีข้างให้ตื่นขึ้นแล้วว่า "จงลุกขึ้นเร็วๆ" โซ่นั้นก็หลุดตกจากมือของเปโตร

⁷And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side, and woke him up, saying, “Stand up quickly!” His chains fell off from his hands.

⁸ทูตสวรรค์องค์นั้นจึงสั่งเปโตรว่า "จงคาดเอวและสวมรองเท้า" เปโตรก็ทำตาม ทูตองค์นั้นจึงสั่งเปโตรว่า "จงห่มผ้าและตามเรามาเถิด"

⁸The angel said to him, “Get dressed and put on your sandals.” He did so. He said to him, “Put on your cloak, and follow me.”

⁹เปโตรจึงตามออกไป และไม่รู้ว่าการซึ่งทูตสวรรค์ทำนั้นเป็นความจริง แต่คิดว่าได้เห็นนิมิต

⁹And he went out and followed him. He didn’t know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he saw a vision.

¹⁰เมื่อออกไปพ้นทหารยามชั้นที่หนึ่งและที่สองแล้ว ก็มาถึงประตูเหล็กที่จะเข้าไปในเมือง ประตูนั้นก็เปิดเองให้ท่านทั้งสอง ท่านจึงออกไปเดินตามถนนแห่งหนึ่ง และในทันใดนั้นทูตสวรรค์ก็ได้อันตรธานไปจากเปโตร

¹⁰When they were past the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate that leads into the city, which opened to them by itself. They went out, and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him.

¹¹ครั้นเปโตรรู้สึกตัวแล้วจึงว่า "เดี๋ยวนี้ข้าพเจ้ารู้แน่ว่า องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าได้ทรงใช้ทูตสวรรค์ของพระองค์มาช่วยข้าพเจ้าให้พ้นจากพระหัตถ์ของเฮโรด และพ้นจากการมุ่งร้ายของพวกยิว"

¹¹When Peter had come to himself, he said, “Now I truly know that the Lord has sent out his angel and delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from everything the Jewish people were expecting.”

¹²เมื่อเปโตรคิดอย่างนั้นแล้ว ก็มาถึงบ้านของมารีย์มารดาของยอห์นผู้มีชื่ออีกว่า มาระโก ที่นั่นมีหลายคนได้ประชุมอธิษฐานกันอยู่

¹²Thinking about that, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying.

¹³พอเปโตรเคาะประตูรั้ว มีหญิงสาวคนหนึ่งชื่อโรดามาฟัง

¹³When Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a maid named Rhoda came to answer.

¹⁴เมื่อจำได้ว่าเป็นเสียงของเปโตร เพราะความยินดีก็ยังไม่เปิดประตู แต่วิ่งเข้าไปบอกว่า เปโตรยืนอยู่หน้าประตู

¹⁴When she recognized Peter’s voice, she didn’t open the gate for joy, but ran in, and reported that Peter was standing in front of the gate.

¹⁵คนทั้งหลายจึงพูดกับหญิงนั้นว่า "เจ้าเป็นบ้า" แต่หญิงคนนั้นยืนคำว่าเป็นอย่างนั้นจริง เขาทั้งหลายจึงว่า "เป็นทูตสวรรค์ประจำตัวเปโตร"

¹⁵They said to her, “You are crazy!” But she insisted that it was so. They said, “It is his angel.”

¹⁶ฝ่ายเปโตรยังยืนเคาะประตูอยู่ เมื่อเขาเปิดประตูเห็นท่าน ก็อัศจรรย์ใจ

¹⁶But Peter continued knocking. When they had opened, they saw him, and were amazed.

¹⁷แต่เปโตรโบกมือให้เขานิ่ง และเล่าให้เขาฟังถึงเรื่องที่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าได้ทรงพาท่านออกจากคุกอย่างไร แล้วท่านสั่งว่า "จงไปบอกเรื่องนี้แก่ยากอบกับพวกพี่น้องให้ทราบ" เปโตรจึงออกไปเสียที่อื่น

¹⁷But he, beckoning to them with his hand to be silent, declared to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. He said, “Tell these things to James, and to the brothers.” Then he departed, and went to another place.

¹⁸แล้วครั้นรุ่งเช้า พวกทหารก็ขวัญหนีดีฝ่อมิใช่น้อย เปโตรหายไปไหนหนอ

¹⁸Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers about what had become of Peter.

¹⁹เมื่อเฮโรดหาตัวเปโตรไม่พบ จึงไต่สวนพวกทหารยามและรับสั่งให้ฆ่าเสีย ฝ่ายเฮโรดก็ออกจากแคว้นยูเดีย ลงไปพักอยู่ที่เมืองซีซารียา

¹⁹When Herod had sought for him, and didn’t find him, he examined the guards, and commanded that they should be put to death. He went down from Judea to Caesarea, and stayed there.

²⁰ฝ่ายเฮโรดกริ้วชาวเมืองไทระและเมืองไซดอน แต่ชาวเมืองนั้นได้พากันมาหาท่าน เมื่อได้เอาใจบลัสทัสกรมวังของกษัตริย์แล้ว จึงได้ขอกลับเป็นไมตรีกันอีก เพราะว่าเมืองของเขาต้องอาศัยอาหารเลี้ยงชีพจากแผ่นดินของกษัตริย์นั้น

²⁰Now Herod was very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon. They came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus, the king’s personal aide, their friend, they asked for peace, because their country depended on the king’s country for food.

²¹เมื่อถึงวันนัด เฮโรดทรงเครื่องกษัตริย์เสด็จประทับบนราชบัลลังก์ แล้วมีพระราชดำรัสแก่เขา

²¹On an appointed day, Herod dressed himself in royal clothing, sat on the throne, and gave a speech to them.

²²คนทั้งหลายจึงร้องขึ้นว่า "เป็นพระสุรเสียงของพระ มิใช่เสียงมนุษย์"

²²The people shouted, “The voice of a god, and not of a man!”

²³ในทันใดนั้น ทูตสวรรค์ขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าให้ท่านเกิดโรคร้าย เพราะท่านมิได้ถวายเกียรติยศแด่พระเจ้า แล้วก็มีตัวหนอนกัดกินร่างกายของท่านจนถึงแก่พิราลัย

²³Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he didn’t give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died.

²⁴แต่พระวจนะของพระเจ้าก็ยังแผ่เจริญมากขึ้น

²⁴But the word of God grew and multiplied.

²⁵ฝ่ายบารนาบัสกับเซาโล เมื่อได้ทำภารกิจที่รับมอบหมายสำเร็จแล้ว จึงจากกรุงเยรูซาเล็มกลับไป พายอห์นผู้มีชื่ออีกว่ามาระโกไปด้วย

²⁵Barnabas and Saul returned to TR reads “from” instead of “to” Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their service, also taking with them John whose surname was Mark.
