¹มหาปุโรหิตจึงถามว่า "เรื่องนี้จริงหรือ"

¹The high priest said, “Are these things so?”

²ฝ่ายสเทเฟนจึงตอบว่า "พี่น้องและท่านผู้ใหญ่ทั้งหลาย ขอฟังเถิด พระเจ้าแห่งสง่าราศีได้ปรากฏแก่อับราฮัมบิดาของเรา เมื่อท่านยังอยู่ในประเทศเมโสโปเตเมียก่อนที่ไปอาศัยอยู่ในเมืองฮาราน

²He said, “Brothers and fathers, listen. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran,

³และได้ตรัสกับท่านว่า `เจ้าจงออกไปจากประเทศของเจ้า จากญาติพี่น้องของเจ้า ไปยังแผ่นดินที่เราจะชี้ให้เจ้าเห็น'

³and said to him, ‘Get out of your land, and from your relatives, and come into a land which I will show you.’ Genesis 12:1

⁴อับราฮัมจึงออกจากแผ่นดินของชาวเคลเดียไปอาศัยอยู่ที่เมืองฮาราน หลังจากที่บิดาของท่านสิ้นชีพแล้ว พระองค์ทรงให้ท่านออกจากที่นั่น มาอยู่ในแผ่นดินนี้ที่ท่านทั้งหลายอาศัยอยู่ทุกวันนี้

⁴Then he came out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and lived in Haran. From there, when his father was dead, God moved him into this land, where you are now living.

⁵แต่พระองค์ไม่ทรงโปรดให้อับราฮัมมีมรดกในแผ่นดินนี้แม้เท่าฝ่าเท้าก็ไม่ได้ และขณะเมื่อท่านยังไม่มีบุตร พระองค์ทรงสัญญาไว้ว่าจะให้แผ่นดินนี้เป็นกรรมสิทธิ์ของท่าน และเชื้อสายของท่านที่มาภายหลังท่าน

⁵He gave him no inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on. He promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when he still had no child.

⁶พระเจ้าตรัสดังนี้ว่า เชื้อสายของท่านจะไปอาศัยอยู่ในต่างประเทศ และชาวประเทศนั้นจะเอาเขาเป็นทาส และจะข่มเหงเขาเป็นเวลาสี่ร้อยปี

⁶God spoke in this way: that his seed would live as aliens in a strange land, and that they would be enslaved and mistreated for four hundred years.

⁷พระเจ้าตรัสว่า `และเราจะพิพากษาประเทศที่เขาจะเป็นทาสนั้น ภายหลังเขาจะออกมาและปรนนิบัติเรา ณ สถานที่นี้'

⁷‘I will judge the nation to which they will be in bondage,’ said God, ‘and after that will they come out, and serve me in this place.’ Genesis 15:13-14

⁸พระองค์ได้ทรงตั้งพันธสัญญาพิธีเข้าสุหนัตไว้กับอับราฮัม เหตุฉะนั้นเมื่ออับราฮัมให้กำเนิดบุตรชื่ออิสอัค จึงให้เข้าสุหนัตในวันที่แปด อิสอัคให้กำเนิดบุตรชื่อยาโคบ และยาโคบให้กำเนิดบุตรสิบสองคน ซึ่งเป็นบรรพบุรุษของเรา

⁸He gave him the covenant of circumcision. So Abraham became the father of Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day. Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob became the father of the twelve patriarchs.

⁹ฝ่ายบรรพบุรุษเหล่านั้นคิดอิจฉาโยเซฟจึงขายเขาไปยังประเทศอียิปต์ แต่พระเจ้าทรงสถิตกับโยเซฟ

⁹“The patriarchs, moved with jealousy against Joseph, sold him into Egypt. God was with him,

¹⁰ทรงโปรดช่วยโยเซฟให้พ้นจากความทุกข์ลำบากทั้งสิ้น และทรงให้ท่านเป็นที่โปรดปรานและมีสติปัญญาในสายพระเนตรของฟาโรห์ กษัตริย์ของประเทศอียิปต์ ท่านจึงตั้งโยเซฟให้เป็นผู้ปกครองประเทศอียิปต์กับทั้งพระราชสำนักของท่าน

¹⁰and delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favor and wisdom before Pharaoh, king of Egypt. He made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

¹¹แล้วบังเกิดการกันดารอาหารทั่วแผ่นดินอียิปต์และแผ่นดินคานาอัน และมีความลำบากมาก บรรพบุรุษของเราจึงไม่มีอาหาร

¹¹Now a famine came over all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and great affliction. Our fathers found no food.

¹²ฝ่ายยาโคบเมื่อได้ยินว่ามีข้าวอยู่ในประเทศอียิปต์ จึงใช้บรรพบุรุษของเราไปเป็นครั้งแรก

¹²But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent out our fathers the first time.

¹³พอคราวที่สองโยเซฟก็สำแดงตัวให้พี่น้องรู้จัก และให้ฟาโรห์รู้จักวงศ์ญาติของตนด้วย

¹³On the second time Joseph was made known to his brothers, and Joseph’s race was revealed to Pharaoh.

¹⁴ฝ่ายโยเซฟจึงได้เชิญยาโคบบิดากับบรรดาญาติของตนเจ็ดสิบห้าคนให้มาหา

¹⁴Joseph sent, and summoned Jacob, his father, and all his relatives, seventy-five souls.

¹⁵ยาโคบได้ลงไปยังประเทศอียิปต์ แล้วท่านกับพวกบรรพบุรุษของเราได้สิ้นชีพ

¹⁵Jacob went down into Egypt, and he died, himself and our fathers,

¹⁶เขาจึงได้นำศพไปฝังไว้ในเมืองเชเคมในอุโมงค์ที่อับราฮัมเอาเงินจำนวนหนึ่งซื้อจากบุตรชายของฮาโมร์บิดาของเชเคม

¹⁶and they were brought back to Shechem, and laid in the tomb that Abraham bought for a price in silver from the children of Hamor of Shechem.

¹⁷เมื่อใกล้เวลาตามพระสัญญาซึ่งพระเจ้าได้ปฏิญาณไว้กับอับราฮัม ชนชาติอิสราเอลได้ทวีมากขึ้นในประเทศอียิปต์

¹⁷“But as the time of the promise came close which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt,

¹⁸จนกระทั่งกษัตริย์องค์หนึ่งซึ่งไม่รู้จักโยเซฟได้ขึ้นเสวยราชย์

¹⁸until there arose a different king, who didn’t know Joseph.

¹⁹กษัตริย์องค์นั้นได้ทรงออกอุบายทำกับญาติของเรา ข่มเหงบรรพบุรุษของเรา บังคับให้ทิ้งลูกอ่อนของเขาเสียไม่ให้มีชีวิตรอดอยู่ได้

¹⁹The same took advantage of our race, and mistreated our fathers, and forced them to throw out their babies, so that they wouldn’t stay alive.

²⁰คราวนั้นโมเสสเกิดมามีรูปร่างงดงาม เขาจึงได้เลี้ยงไว้ในบ้านบิดาจนครบสามเดือน

²⁰At that time Moses was born, and was exceedingly handsome. He was nourished three months in his father’s house.

²¹และเมื่อลูกอ่อนนั้นถูกทิ้งไว้นอกบ้านแล้ว ราชธิดาของฟาโรห์จึงรับมาเลี้ยงไว้ต่างบุตรชายของตน

²¹When he was thrown out, Pharaoh’s daughter took him up, and reared him as her own son.

²²ฝ่ายโมเสสจึงได้เรียนรู้ในวิชาการทุกอย่างของชาวอียิปต์ มีความเฉียบแหลมมากในการพูดและกิจการต่างๆ

²²Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians. He was mighty in his words and works.

²³แต่ครั้นโมเสสมีอายุได้สี่สิบปีเต็มแล้ว ก็นึกอยากจะไปเยี่ยมญาติพี่น้องของตน คือชนชาติอิสราเอล

²³But when he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brothers The word for “brothers” here and where the context allows may be also correctly translated “brothers and sisters” or “siblings.” , the children of Israel.

²⁴เมื่อท่านได้เห็นคนหนึ่งถูกข่มเหงจึงเข้าไปช่วย โดยฆ่าชาวอียิปต์ซึ่งเป็นผู้กดขี่นั้นเป็นการแก้แค้น

²⁴Seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him who was oppressed, striking the Egyptian.

²⁵ด้วยคาดว่าญาติพี่น้องคงเข้าใจว่า พระเจ้าจะทรงช่วยเขาให้รอดด้วยมือของตน แต่เขาหาเข้าใจดังนั้นไม่

²⁵He supposed that his brothers understood that God, by his hand, was giving them deliverance; but they didn’t understand.

²⁶วันรุ่งขึ้นโมเสสได้เข้ามาพบเขาขณะวิวาทกัน ก็อยากจะให้เขากลับดีกันอีก จึงกล่าวว่า `เพื่อนเอ๋ย ท่านเป็นพี่น้องกัน ไฉนจึงทำร้ายกันเล่า'

²⁶“The day following, he appeared to them as they fought, and urged them to be at peace again, saying, ‘Sirs, you are brothers. Why do you wrong one another?’

²⁷ฝ่ายคนที่ข่มเหงเพื่อนนั้นจึงผลักโมเสสออกไปและกล่าวว่า `ใครแต่งตั้งเจ้าให้เป็นผู้ครอบครองและผู้พิพากษาพวกเรา

²⁷But he who did his neighbor wrong pushed him away, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?

²⁸เจ้าจะฆ่าเราเสียเหมือนฆ่าชาวอียิปต์เมื่อวานนี้หรือ'

²⁸Do you want to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?’ Exodus 2:14

²⁹เมื่อโมเสสได้ยินคำนั้นจึงหนีไปอาศัยอยู่ที่แผ่นดินมีเดียน และให้กำเนิดบุตรชายสองคนที่นั่น

²⁹Moses fled at this saying, and became a stranger in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons.

³⁰ครั้นล่วงไปได้สี่สิบปีแล้ว ทูตสวรรค์องค์หนึ่งขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้ามาปรากฏแก่โมเสสในเปลวไฟที่พุ่มไม้ ในถิ่นทุรกันดารแห่งภูเขาซีนาย

³⁰“When forty years were fulfilled, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush.

³¹เมื่อโมเสสเห็นก็ประหลาดใจด้วยเรื่องนิมิตนั้น ครั้นเข้าไปดูใกล้ๆก็มีพระสุรเสียงขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสกับเขา

³¹When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight. As he came close to see, a voice of the Lord came to him,

³²ว่า `เราเป็นพระเจ้าของบรรพบุรุษของเจ้า เป็นพระเจ้าของอับราฮัม เป็นพระเจ้าของอิสอัค และเป็นพระเจ้าของยาโคบ' โมเสสจึงกลัวจนตัวสั่นไม่อาจมองดู

³²‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ Exodus 3:6 Moses trembled, and dared not look.

³³ฝ่ายองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าจึงตรัสกับโมเสสว่า `จงถอดรองเท้าของเจ้าออกเสีย เพราะว่าที่ซึ่งเจ้ายืนอยู่นี้เป็นที่บริสุทธิ์

³³The Lord said to him, ‘Take your sandals off of your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.

³⁴ดูเถิด เราได้เห็นความทุกข์ของชนชาติของเราที่อยู่ในประเทศอียิปต์แล้ว และเราได้ยินเสียงคร่ำครวญของเขา และเราลงมาเพื่อจะช่วยเขาให้รอด จงมาเถิด เราจะใช้เจ้าไปยังประเทศอียิปต์'

³⁴I have surely seen the affliction of my people that is in Egypt, and have heard their groaning. I have come down to deliver them. Now come, I will send you into Egypt.’ Exodus 3:5,7-8,10

³⁵โมเสสผู้นี้ซึ่งถูกเขาปฏิเสธโดยกล่าวว่า `ใครแต่งตั้งเจ้าให้เป็นผู้ครอบครองและผู้พิพากษาพวกเรา' โดยมือของทูตสวรรค์ซึ่งได้ปรากฏแก่ท่านที่พุ่มไม้ พระเจ้าทรงใช้โมเสสคนนี้แหละให้เป็นทั้งผู้ครอบครองและผู้ช่วยให้พ้น

³⁵“This Moses, whom they refused, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’—God has sent him as both a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

³⁶คนนี้แหละ เป็นผู้นำเขาทั้งหลายออกมา โดยที่ได้ทำการมหัศจรรย์และหมายสำคัญต่างๆในแผ่นดินอียิปต์ ที่ทะเลแดงและในถิ่นทุรกันดารสี่สิบปี

³⁶This man led them out, having worked wonders and signs in Egypt, in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness for forty years.

³⁷โมเสสคนนี้แหละได้กล่าวแก่ชนชาติอิสราเอลว่า `องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าผู้เป็นพระเจ้าของท่านทั้งหลายจะทรงโปรดประทานศาสดาพยากรณ์ผู้หนึ่ง เหมือนอย่างเราให้แก่ท่านจากจำพวกพี่น้องของท่าน ท่านทั้งหลายจงเชื่อฟังผู้นั้น'

³⁷This is that Moses, who said to the children of Israel, ‘The Lord our God will raise up a prophet for you from among your brothers, like me. TR adds “You shall listen to him.” ’ Deuteronomy 18:15

³⁸โมเสสนี้แหละได้อยู่กับพลไพร่ในถิ่นทุรกันดารกับทูตสวรรค์ซึ่งได้ตรัสแก่ท่านที่ภูเขาซีนาย และอยู่กับบรรพบุรุษของเรา ที่ได้รับพระดำรัสอันทรงชีวิตมาให้เราทั้งหลาย

³⁸This is he who was in the assembly in the wilderness with the angel that spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers, who received living oracles to give to us,

³⁹บรรพบุรุษของเราไม่ยอมเชื่อฟังโมเสสผู้นี้ แต่ได้ผลักไสท่านให้ไปจากเขา ด้วยมีใจปรารถนาจะกลับไปยังแผ่นดินอียิปต์

³⁹to whom our fathers wouldn’t be obedient, but rejected him, and turned back in their hearts to Egypt,

⁴⁰จึงกล่าวแก่อาโรนว่า `ขอสร้างพระให้แก่พวกข้าพเจ้า ซึ่งจะนำพวกข้าพเจ้าไป ด้วยว่าโมเสสคนนี้ที่ได้นำข้าพเจ้าออกมาจากประเทศอียิปต์เป็นอะไรไปเสียแล้ว ข้าพเจ้าไม่ทราบ'

⁴⁰saying to Aaron, ‘Make us gods that will go before us, for as for this Moses, who led us out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.’ Exodus 32:1

⁴¹ในคราวนั้นเขาทั้งหลายได้ทำรูปโคหนุ่ม และได้นำเครื่องสัตวบูชามาถวายแก่รูปนั้น และมีใจยินดีในสิ่งซึ่งมือของตนเองได้ทำขึ้น

⁴¹They made a calf in those days, and brought a sacrifice to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their hands.

⁴²แต่พระเจ้าทรงหันพระพักตร์ไปเสียและปล่อยให้เขานมัสการหมู่ดาวในท้องฟ้า ตามที่มีเขียนไว้ในพระคัมภีร์แห่งศาสดาพยากรณ์ว่า `โอ วงศ์วานอิสราเอลเอ๋ย เจ้าได้ฆ่าสัตวบูชาเราและถวายเครื่องบูชาให้แก่เราในถิ่นทุรกันดารถึงสี่สิบปีหรือ

⁴²But God turned, and gave them up to serve the army of the sky, This idiom could also be translated “host of heaven,” or “angelic beings,” or “heavenly bodies.” as it is written in the book of the prophets, ‘Did you offer to me slain animals and sacrifices forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?

⁴³แล้วเจ้าทั้งหลายได้หามพลับพลาของพระโมเลค และได้เอาดาวพระเรฟาน รูปพระที่เจ้าได้กระทำขึ้นเพื่อกราบนมัสการรูปนั้นต่างหาก เราจึงจะกวาดเจ้าทั้งหลายให้ไปอยู่พ้นเมืองบาบิโลนอีก'

⁴³You took up the tabernacle of Moloch, the star of your god Rephan, the figures which you made to worship. I will carry you away Amos 5:25-27 beyond Babylon.’

⁴⁴บรรพบุรุษของเราเมื่ออยู่ในถิ่นทุรกันดารก็มีพลับพลาแห่งสักขีพยาน ตามที่พระองค์ทรงสั่งไว้เมื่อตรัสกับโมเสสว่าให้ทำพลับพลาตามแบบที่ได้เห็น

⁴⁴“Our fathers had the tabernacle of the testimony in the wilderness, even as he who spoke to Moses commanded him to make it according to the pattern that he had seen;

⁴⁵ฝ่ายบรรพบุรุษของเราที่มาภายหลัง เมื่อได้รับพลับพลานั้นจึงขนตามโยชูวาไป เมื่อได้เข้ายึดแผ่นดินของบรรดาประชาชาติ ซึ่งพระเจ้าได้ทรงขับไล่ไปให้พ้นหน้าบรรพบุรุษของเรา พลับพลานั้นก็มีสืบมาจนถึงสมัยดาวิด

⁴⁵which also our fathers, in their turn, brought in with Joshua when they entered into the possession of the nations, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers, to the days of David,

⁴⁶ดาวิดนั้นมีความชอบจำเพาะพระพักตร์พระเจ้า และมีใจปรารถนาที่จะหาพระนิเวศสำหรับพระเจ้าของยาโคบ

⁴⁶who found favor in the sight of God, and asked to find a habitation for the God of Jacob.

⁴⁷แต่ซาโลมอนเป็นผู้ได้สร้างพระนิเวศสำหรับพระองค์

⁴⁷But Solomon built him a house.

⁴⁸ถึงกระนั้นก็ดี องค์ผู้สูงสุดหาได้ประทับในพระวิหารซึ่งมือมนุษย์ได้ทำไว้ไม่ ตามที่ศาสดาพยากรณ์ได้กล่าวไว้ว่า

⁴⁸However, the Most High doesn’t dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says,

⁴⁹`องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าตรัสว่า สวรรค์เป็นบัลลังก์ของเรา และแผ่นดินโลกเป็นแท่นรองเท้าของเรา เจ้าจะสร้างนิเวศอะไรสำหรับเรา หรือที่พำนักของเราอยู่ที่ไหน

⁴⁹‘heaven is my throne, and the earth a footstool for my feet. What kind of house will you build me?’ says the Lord; ‘or what is the place of my rest?

⁵⁰สิ่งเหล่านี้มือของเราได้กระทำทั้งสิ้น มิใช่หรือ'

⁵⁰Didn’t my hand make all these things?’ Isaiah 66:1-2

⁵¹โอ คนชาติคอแข็งใจดื้อหูตึง ท่านทั้งหลายขัดขวางพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์อยู่เสมอ บรรพบุรุษของท่านทำอย่างไร ท่านก็ทำอย่างนั้นด้วย

⁵¹“You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit! As your fathers did, so you do.

⁵²มีใครบ้างในพวกศาสดาพยากรณ์ซึ่งบรรพบุรุษของท่านมิได้ข่มเหง และเขาได้ฆ่าบรรดาคนที่พยากรณ์ถึงการเสด็จมาขององค์ผู้ชอบธรรม ซึ่งท่านทั้งหลายได้ทรยศและฆ่าพระองค์นั้นเสีย

⁵²Which of the prophets didn’t your fathers persecute? They killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers.

⁵³คือท่านทั้งหลายผู้ที่ได้รับพระราชบัญญัติจากเหล่าทูตสวรรค์ แต่หาได้ประพฤติตามพระราชบัญญัตินั้นไม่"

⁵³You received the law as it was ordained by angels, and didn’t keep it!”

⁵⁴เมื่อเขาทั้งหลายได้ยินดังนั้น ก็รู้สึกบาดใจ และขบเขี้ยวเคี้ยวฟันเข้าใส่สเทเฟน

⁵⁴Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.

⁵⁵ฝ่ายสเทเฟนประกอบด้วยพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์ ได้เขม้นดูสวรรค์เห็นสง่าราศีของพระเจ้า และพระเยซูทรงยืนอยู่เบื้องขวาพระหัตถ์ของพระเจ้า

⁵⁵But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,

⁵⁶แล้วท่านได้กล่าวว่า "ดูเถิด ข้าพเจ้าเห็นท้องฟ้าแหวกเป็นช่อง และบุตรมนุษย์ยืนอยู่เบื้องขวาพระหัตถ์ของพระเจ้า"

⁵⁶and said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!”

⁵⁷แต่เขาทั้งปวงร้องเสียงดังและอุดหูวิ่งกรูกันเข้าไปยังสเทเฟน

⁵⁷But they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and rushed at him with one accord.

⁵⁸แล้วขับไล่ท่านออกจากกรุงและเอาหินขว้าง ฝ่ายคนที่เป็นพยานปรักปรำสเทเฟนได้ฝากเสื้อผ้าของตนวางไว้ที่เท้าของชายหนุ่มคนหนึ่งชื่อเซาโล

⁵⁸They threw him out of the city, and stoned him. The witnesses placed their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul.

⁵⁹เขาจึงเอาหินขว้างสเทเฟนเมื่อกำลังอ้อนวอนพระเจ้าอยู่ว่า "ข้าแต่พระเยซูเจ้า ขอทรงโปรดรับจิตวิญญาณของข้าพระองค์ด้วย"

⁵⁹They stoned Stephen as he called out, saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!”

⁶⁰สเทเฟนก็คุกเข่าลงร้องเสียงดังว่า "พระองค์เจ้าข้า ขอโปรดอย่าทรงถือโทษเขาเพราะบาปนี้" เมื่อกล่าวเช่นนี้แล้วก็ล่วงหลับไป

⁶⁰He kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, “Lord, don’t hold this sin against them!” When he had said this, he fell asleep.
