¹"ในแผ่นดินซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านประทานให้ท่านเป็นกรรมสิทธิ์นั้น ถ้าพบศพคนที่ถูกฆ่าทิ้งอยู่กลางแจ้ง ไม่ทราบว่าผู้ใดฆ่าเขาตาย

¹If one be found slain in the land which Yahweh your God gives you to possess it, lying in the field, and it isn’t known who has struck him;

²ก็ให้พวกผู้ใหญ่และผู้พิพากษาของท่านออกมาวัดดูระยะทางถึงเมืองต่างๆที่อยู่รอบๆศพผู้ตายนั้น

²then your elders and your judges shall come forth, and they shall measure to the cities which are around him who is slain:

³แล้วเมืองที่อยู่ใกล้ที่สุดกับศพผู้ตายนั้น ให้พวกผู้ใหญ่ของเมืองนั้นนำวัวตัวเมียตัวหนึ่งซึ่งยังไม่เคยใช้งาน และยังไม่เคยเทียมแอก

³and it shall be, that the city which is nearest to the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take a heifer of the herd, which hasn’t been worked with, and which has not drawn in the yoke;

⁴และให้พวกผู้ใหญ่ของเมืองนั้นนำวัวเมียตัวนั้นไปที่หุบเขาซึ่งมีน้ำไหล ซึ่งไม่มีใครไถหรือหว่านเลย และให้หักคอวัวเมียที่หุบเขานั้น

⁴and the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer to a valley with running water, which is neither plowed nor sown, and shall break the heifer’s neck there in the valley.

⁵และปุโรหิตผู้เป็นลูกหลานของเลวีจะต้องเข้ามาใกล้ ด้วยพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านได้ทรงเลือกเขาไว้ให้ปรนนิบัติพระองค์ และให้อวยพรในพระนามของพระเยโฮวาห์ ให้การวิวาทและการทำร้ายทุกเรื่องสิ้นสุดลงด้วยคำของปุโรหิตเหล่านี้

⁵The priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them Yahweh your God has chosen to minister to him, and to bless in the name of Yahweh; and according to their word shall every controversy and every stroke be.

⁶และพวกผู้ใหญ่ทุกคนของเมืองที่อยู่ใกล้ที่สุดผู้ถูกฆ่านั้นจะล้างมือของเขาทั้งหลายเหนือวัวเมียซึ่งถูกหักคอที่ในหุบเขานั้น

⁶All the elders of that city, who are nearest to the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley;

⁷และเขาจะเป็นพยานว่า `มือของเราทั้งหลายมิได้กระทำให้โลหิตของชายผู้นี้ตก และตาของเราทั้งหลายก็มิได้แลเห็นโลหิตของเขาตก

⁷and they shall answer and say, “Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.

⁸ข้าแต่พระเยโฮวาห์ ขอทรงลบมลทินบาปของประชาชนชาวอิสราเอลของพระองค์ ผู้ซึ่งพระองค์ได้ทรงไถ่ไว้ ขออย่าทรงถือโทษประชาชนชาวอิสราเอลของพระองค์เนื่องด้วยโลหิตที่ไร้ความผิด' และจะทรงอภัยโทษอันเนื่องจากโลหิตนี้ให้แก่เขา

⁸Forgive, Yahweh, your people Israel, whom you have redeemed, and don’t allow innocent blood in the midst of your people Israel.” The blood shall be forgiven them.

⁹ดังนี้แหละท่านจะกำจัดความผิดอันเนื่องจากโลหิตที่ไร้ความผิดนั้นเสียจากท่ามกลางท่าน เมื่อท่านกระทำสิ่งที่ถูกต้องในสายพระเนตรของพระเยโฮวาห์

⁹So you shall put away the innocent blood from the midst of you, when you shall do that which is right in the eyes of Yahweh.

¹⁰เมื่อท่านออกไปสู้รบกับศัตรูของท่าน และพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านทรงมอบเขาไว้ในมือของท่านแล้ว และท่านจับเขามาเป็นเชลย

¹⁰When you go forth to battle against your enemies, and Yahweh your God delivers them into your hands, and you carry them away captive,

¹¹และท่านเห็นหญิงงามคนหนึ่งในหมู่เชลยนั้น และปรารถนาอยากได้มาเป็นภรรยาของท่าน

¹¹and see among the captives a beautiful woman, and you have a desire to her, and would take her to you as wife;

¹²ท่านจงพาหญิงมาไว้ที่เรือนของท่าน ให้นางโกนศีรษะและตัดเล็บมือเสีย

¹²then you shall bring her home to your house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;

¹³และให้นางเปลื้องเครื่องแต่งกายอย่างเชลยออกและให้อยู่ในเรือนของท่าน ให้ไว้ทุกข์ถึงบิดามารดาของนางหนึ่งเดือนเต็ม หลังจากนั้นท่านจึงจะเข้าไปหานางและเป็นสามีของนางได้ และให้นางเป็นภรรยาของท่าน

¹³and she shall put the clothing of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in your house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that you shall go in to her, and be her husband, and she shall be your wife.

¹⁴ภายหลังถ้าท่านไม่พอใจนางนั้นเสียแล้ว จงปล่อยนางไปตามแต่นางจะพอใจไปไหน อย่าขายนางเอาเงิน อย่ากระทำให้นางเป็นสินค้า เพราะท่านได้หยามเกียรตินางแล้ว

¹⁴It shall be, if you have no delight in her, then you shall let her go where she will; but you shall not sell her at all for money, you shall not deal with her as a slave, because you have humbled her.

¹⁵ถ้าชายคนหนึ่งมีภรรยาสองคน รักคนหนึ่ง ชังอีกคนหนึ่ง ภรรยาทั้งสองคือทั้งคนที่รักและคนที่ชังก็กำเนิดบุตรด้วยกัน และบุตรชายหัวปีเป็นบุตรของภรรยาคนที่ตนชัง

¹⁵If a man have two wives, the one beloved, and the other hated, and they have borne him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers who was hated;

¹⁶เมื่อถึงวันแบ่งทรัพย์สินให้แก่บุตรชายเป็นมรดกนั้น อย่าให้เขากระทำแก่บุตรชายของภรรยาคนที่ตนรักนั้นอย่างกับเป็นบุตรหัวปี แทนบุตรชายของภรรยาที่ตนชัง ซึ่งเป็นบุตรหัวปี

¹⁶then it shall be, in the day that he causes his sons to inherit that which he has, that he may not make the son of the beloved the firstborn before the son of the hated, who is the firstborn:

¹⁷แต่เขาต้องยอมรับบุตรหัวปีคือบุตรชายของภรรยาคนที่ตนชัง โดยแบ่งข้าวของให้แก่บุตรหัวปีสองเท่า เพราะว่าคนนี้เป็นต้นกำลังของบิดา สิทธิของบุตรหัวปีเป็นของเขา

¹⁷but he shall acknowledge the firstborn, the son of the hated, by giving him a double portion of all that he has; for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.

¹⁸ถ้าชายคนใดมีบุตรชายที่ดื้อและไม่อยู่ในโอวาท ไม่เชื่อฟังเสียงของบิดาของตน หรือเสียงของมารดาของตน แม้ว่าบิดามารดาจะได้ตีสอน เขาก็ไม่ยอมฟัง

¹⁸If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, who will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and, though they chasten him, will not listen to them;

¹⁹ให้บิดามารดาจับตัวเขาให้ออกมาหาพวกผู้ใหญ่ของเมืองนั้น ณ ประตูเมืองที่เขาอาศัยอยู่

¹⁹then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out to the elders of his city, and to the gate of his place;

²⁰และเขาจะพูดกับพวกผู้ใหญ่ของเมืองนั้นว่า `บุตรชายของเราคนนี้เป็นคนดื้อดึงและไม่อยู่ในโอวาท ไม่เชื่อฟังเสียงเรา เป็นคนตะกละและขี้เมา'

²⁰and they shall tell the elders of his city, “This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.”

²¹แล้วบรรดาผู้ชายในเมืองนั้นจะเอาหินขว้างเขาให้ตาย ดังนั้นท่านจะได้กำจัดความชั่วเสียจากท่ามกลางท่าน คนอิสราเอลทั้งปวงจะได้ยินและยำเกรง

²¹All the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones: so you shall put away the evil from the midst of you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

²²ถ้าคนใดได้กระทำความผิดอันมีโทษถึงตาย และเขาถูกประหารชีวิต และแขวนเขาไว้ที่ต้นไม้

²²If a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be put to death, and you hang him on a tree;

²³อย่าให้ศพค้างอยู่ที่ต้นไม้ข้ามคืน ท่านจงฝังเขาเสียในวันเดียวกันนั้น (ด้วยว่าผู้ที่ต้องถูกแขวนไว้บนต้นไม้ก็ต้องถูกสาปแช่งโดยพระเจ้า) ท่านอย่ากระทำให้แผ่นดินของท่านซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของท่านประทานแก่ท่านให้เป็นมรดกนั้นเป็นมลทิน"

²³his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall surely bury him the same day; for he who is hanged is accursed of God; that you don’t defile your land which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance.
