1เจ้าจงระวังเท้าของเจ้าเมื่อเจ้าไปยังพระนิเวศของพระเจ้า เพราะการเข้าใกล้ชิดเพื่อจะฟังก็ดีกว่าคนเขลาถวายสักการบูชา ด้วยว่าเขาไม่รู้ว่าตนกำลังทำชั่ว
1Guard your steps when you go to God’s house; for to draw near to listen is better than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they don’t know that they do evil.
2อย่าให้ใจของเจ้าเร็วและอย่าให้ปากของเจ้าพูดโพล่งๆต่อเบื้องพระพักตร์พระเจ้า เพราะว่าพระเจ้าทรงสถิตในสวรรค์ และเจ้าอยู่บนแผ่นดินโลก เหตุฉะนั้นเจ้าจงพูดน้อยคำ
2Don’t be rash with your mouth, and don’t let your heart be hasty to utter anything before God; for God is in heaven, and you on earth. Therefore let your words be few.
3ความฝันจะสำเร็จโดยมีงานมาก และจะรู้จักเสียงคนเขลาได้เพราะการพูดมาก
3For as a dream comes with a multitude of cares, so a fool’s speech with a multitude of words.
4เมื่อเจ้าปฏิญาณไว้ต่อพระเจ้า อย่าชักช้าที่จะทำตามคำปฏิญาณนั้นให้สำเร็จ เพราะพระองค์หาชอบพระทัยในคนเขลาไม่ จงทำตามที่เจ้าปฏิญาณไว้เถิด
4When you vow a vow to God, don’t defer to pay it; for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay that which you vow.
5ที่เจ้าจะไม่ปฏิญาณก็ยังดีกว่าที่เจ้าปฏิญาณแล้วไม่ทำตาม
5It is better that you should not vow, than that you should vow and not pay.
6อย่าให้ปากของเจ้าเป็นเหตุนำตัวเจ้าให้กระทำผิดไป และอย่าพูดต่อหน้าทูตสวรรค์ว่า นี่แหละเป็นความพลั้งเผลอ เหตุไฉนจะให้พระเจ้าทรงพิโรธเพราะเสียงพูดของเจ้า แล้วเลยทรงทำลายการงานแห่งน้ำมือของเจ้าเสียเล่า
6Don’t allow your mouth to lead you into sin. Don’t protest before the messenger that this was a mistake. Why should God be angry at your voice, and destroy the work of your hands?
7เพราะว่าเมื่อฝันมากและคำพูดมาก ก็มีอนิจจังต่างๆด้วย แต่เจ้าจงยำเกรงพระเจ้าเถิด
7For in the multitude of dreams there are vanities, as well as in many words: but you must fear God.
8ถ้าเจ้าเห็นคนจนในเมืองถูกข่มเหงก็ดี เห็นความยุติธรรมและความเที่ยงธรรมเอาไปเสียก็ดี เจ้าอย่าประหลาดใจในเรื่องนั้น ด้วยว่ามีเจ้าหน้าที่คอยจับตาเจ้าหน้าที่อยู่ แล้วยังมีผู้สูงกว่าอีกชั้นหนึ่งจับตาอยู่เหนือพวกเขาทั้งสิ้น
8If you see the oppression of the poor, and the violent taking away of justice and righteousness in a district, don’t marvel at the matter: for one official is eyed by a higher one; and there are officials over them.
9ยิ่งกว่านั้นอีก ผลประโยชน์แห่งแผ่นดินโลก ก็อยู่ที่เขาเหล่านั้นทั้งหมด กษัตริย์เองก็ได้รับการเลี้ยงดูจากไร่นา
9Moreover the profit of the earth is for all. The king profits from the field.
10คนรักเงินย่อมไม่อิ่มเงิน และคนรักสมบัติไม่รู้จักอิ่มกำไร นี่ก็อนิจจังด้วย
10He who loves silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he who loves abundance, with increase: this also is vanity.
11เมื่อของดีเพิ่มพูนขึ้น คนกินก็มีคับคั่งขึ้น คนที่เป็นเจ้าของทรัพย์จะได้ประโยชน์อะไร นอกจากจะได้ชมเล่นเป็นขวัญตาเท่านั้น
11When goods increase, those who eat them are increased; and what advantage is there to its owner, except to feast on them with his eyes?
12การหลับของกรรมกรก็ผาสุก ไม่ว่าเขาจะได้กินน้อยหรือได้กินมาก แต่ความอิ่มท้องของคนมั่งมีก็ไม่ช่วยเขาให้หลับ
12The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eats little or much; but the abundance of the rich will not allow him to sleep.
13ยังมีสิ่งสามานย์อันน่าสลดใจอีกอย่างหนึ่งที่ข้าพเจ้าเห็นภายใต้ดวงอาทิตย์ คือทรัพย์สมบัติที่เจ้าของได้เก็บไว้จนเกิดเป็นภัยแก่ตน
13There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: wealth kept by its owner to his harm.
14และทรัพย์สมบัตินั้นสูญเสียไปโดยเรื่องยากลำบากอันชั่วร้าย และเขาให้กำเนิดบุตรชายคนหนึ่ง แต่ไม่มีอะไรในมือเขา
14Those riches perish by misfortune, and if he has fathered a son, there is nothing in his hand.
15เขาได้คลอดมาจากครรภ์มารดาฉันใด เขาจะกลับไปอย่างเปลือยเปล่าเช่นเดียวกับที่เขามาฉันนั้น และเขาจะเอาอะไรซึ่งเป็นผลจากหยาดเหงื่อแรงงานของเขาติดมือไปไม่ได้เลย
15As he came forth from his mother’s womb, naked shall he go again as he came, and shall take nothing for his labor, which he may carry away in his hand.
16นี่เป็นสิ่งสามานย์อันน่าสลดใจอีก คือเขาได้เกิดมาอย่างไรเขาก็ต้องไปอย่างนั้น เขาจะได้ประโยชน์อะไรเล่าที่เขาได้ลงแรงเพื่อลมแล้ง
16This also is a grievous evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go. And what profit does he have who labors for the wind?
17อนึ่งเขารับประทานอยู่ในความมืดตลอดปีเดือนของเขา เขามีความทุกข์อย่างสาหัสและมีโทโสพร้อมกับความเจ็บไข้
17All his days he also eats in darkness, he is frustrated, and has sickness and wrath.
18ดูเถิด ที่ข้าพเจ้าเห็นดีและสมควร คือให้กินและดื่ม กับปรีดาในผลดีแห่งบรรดากิจการของตนที่ตนกระทำภายใต้ดวงอาทิตย์ ตลอดปีเดือนแห่งชีวิตของตนที่พระเจ้าทรงประทานแก่ตน เพราะการนี้แหละเป็นส่วนของตน
18Behold, that which I have seen to be good and proper is for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy good in all his labor, in which he labors under the sun, all the days of his life which God has given him; for this is his portion.
19อนึ่งทุกๆคนที่พระเจ้าทรงประทานทรัพย์สมบัติและความมั่งคั่งให้ ก็ได้ทรงโปรดให้มีอำนาจรับประทานของเหล่านั้น ได้รับส่วนของตน และยินดีปรีดาในการงานของตนได้ นี่แหละเป็นของประทานจากพระเจ้า
19Every man also to whom God has given riches and wealth, and has given him power to eat of it, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labor—this is the gift of God.
20เขาจะได้ไม่ต้องนึกถึงปีเดือนแห่งชีวิตของตนมาก เพราะพระเจ้าทรงตอบเขาในสิ่งที่ให้ใจเขาปิติยินดี
20For he shall not often reflect on the days of his life; because God occupies him with the joy of his heart.
