1ภายหลังเหตุการณ์เหล่านี้กษัตริย์อาหสุเอรัสทรงเลื่อนยศฮามานบุตรชายฮัมเมดาธา คนอากัก กษัตริย์ทรงเลื่อนท่านและทรงตั้งเก้าอี้ของท่านไว้เหนือกว่าของเจ้านายทั้งปวงที่อยู่กับพระองค์
1After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes who were with him.
2บรรดาข้าราชการของกษัตริย์ซึ่งอยู่ที่ประตูของกษัตริย์ก็กราบลงแสดงความเคารพต่อฮามาน เพราะกษัตริย์ทรงบัญชาให้แสดงความเคารพต่อท่านเช่นนั้น แต่โมรเดคัยมิได้กราบหรือแสดงความเคารพ
2All the king’s servants who were in the king’s gate bowed down, and paid homage to Haman; for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai didn’t bow down or pay him homage.
3ข้าราชการของกษัตริย์ซึ่งอยู่ที่ประตูของกษัตริย์จึงพูดกับโมรเดคัยว่า "ทำไมท่านละเมิดพระบัญชาของกษัตริย์"
3Then the king’s servants, who were in the king’s gate, said to Mordecai, “Why do you disobey the king’s commandment?”
4อยู่มาเมื่อเขาทั้งหลายพูดกับท่านวันแล้ววันเล่า และท่านไม่ฟังเขา เขาก็ไปเรียนฮามานเพื่อจะดูว่าถ้อยคำของโมรเดคัยจะชนะหรือไม่ เพราะท่านบอกเขาว่าท่านเป็นยิว
4Now it came to pass, when they spoke daily to him, and he didn’t listen to them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai’s reason would stand; for he had told them that he was a Jew.
5เมื่อฮามานเห็นว่าโมรเดคัยไม่กราบลงหรือแสดงความเคารพต่อท่าน ฮามานก็เดือดดาล
5When Haman saw that Mordecai didn’t bow down, nor pay him homage, Haman was full of wrath.
6แต่ท่านเห็นว่าเป็นการเสียเกียรติที่จะจับกุมโมรเดคัยคนเดียว เพราะมีคนเรียนท่านให้ทราบถึงชนชาติของโมรเดคัย ฮามานจึงหาช่องที่จะทำลายยิวทั้งหมด คือชนชาติของโมรเดคัยทั่วราชอาณาจักรของอาหสุเอรัส
6But he scorned the thought of laying hands on Mordecai alone, for they had made known to him Mordecai’s people. Therefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews who were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even Mordecai’s people.
7ในเดือนแรกซึ่งเป็นเดือนนิสานปีที่สิบสองแห่งรัชกาลกษัตริย์อาหสุเอรัส เขาพากันทอดเปอร์ คือสลาก ต่อหน้าฮามานเพื่อหาวัน และเพื่อหาเดือน ได้เดือนที่สิบสอง คือเป็นเดือนอาดาร์
7In the first month, which is the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, and chose the twelfth month, which is the month Adar.
8แล้วฮามานทูลกษัตริย์อาหสุเอรัสว่า "มีชนชาติหนึ่งกระจายอยู่ทั่ว และแยกกันอยู่ท่ามกลางชนชาติทั้งหลายในมณฑลทั้งหลายแห่งราชอาณาจักรของพระองค์ กฎหมายของเขาผิดกับกฎหมายของชนชาติอื่นทั้งสิ้น และพวกนี้ไม่รักษากฎหมายของกษัตริย์ การที่กษัตริย์ทรงปล่อยเขาไว้นี้ไม่บังเกิดประโยชน์แก่พระองค์
8Haman said to King Ahasuerus, “There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom, and their laws are different than other people’s. They don’t keep the king’s laws. Therefore it is not for the king’s profit to allow them to remain.
9ถ้าเป็นที่พอพระทัยกษัตริย์ ขอทรงออกกฤษฎีกาให้ทำลายล้างเขาเสียเถิด และข้าพระองค์จะถวายเงินหนึ่งหมื่นตะลันต์ใส่มือบรรดาผู้ที่ดูแลพระราชกิจของกษัตริย์ เพื่อเขาจะได้ใส่ในพระคลังของกษัตริย์"
9If it pleases the king, let it be written that they be destroyed; and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those who are in charge of the king’s business, to bring it into the king’s treasuries.”
10กษัตริย์จึงถอดพระธำมรงค์ตราออกจากพระหัตถ์ของพระองค์มอบแก่ฮามานบุตรชายฮัมเมดาธา คนอากัก ศัตรูของพวกยิว
10The king took his ring from his hand, and gave it to Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews’ enemy.
11และกษัตริย์ตรัสกับฮามานว่า "เรามอบเงินนั้นให้แก่ท่าน และมอบประชาชนแก่ท่านด้วย เพื่อจะทำแก่เขาตามที่ท่านเห็นดี"
11The king said to Haman, “The silver is given to you, the people also, to do with them as it seems good to you.”
12แล้วทรงเรียกราชอาลักษณ์เข้ามาในวันที่สิบสามเดือนต้น ให้เขียนกฤษฎีกาตามที่ฮามานบัญชาไว้ทุกประการ ส่งไปยังสมุหเทศาภิบาลของกษัตริย์และของเจ้าเมืองมณฑลทั้งปวงและถึงเจ้านายแห่งชนชาติทั้งปวง ถึงทุกมณฑลเป็นอักขระของมณฑลนั้น และถึงชนทุกชาติเป็นภาษาของเขา เขียนในพระนามของกษัตริย์อาหสุเอรัส และประทับตราด้วยพระธำมรงค์ของกษัตริย์
12Then the king’s scribes were called in on the first month, on the thirteenth day of the month; and all that Haman commanded was written to the king’s satraps, and to the governors who were over every province, and to the princes of every people, to every province according its writing, and to every people in their language. It was written in the name of King Ahasuerus, and it was sealed with the king’s ring.
13ให้คนเดินข่าวจดหมายเหล่านี้ไปถึงมณฑลของกษัตริย์ทั้งสิ้นสั่งให้ทำลาย สังหารและทำให้ยิวทั้งปวงพินาศไป ทั้งนุ่มและแก่ เด็กและผู้หญิงในวันเดียวกัน คือวันที่สิบสามเดือนที่สิบสองซึ่งเป็นเดือนอาดาร์ และให้ริบเอาข้าวของของเขาไปหมด
13Letters were sent by couriers into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to plunder their possessions.
14ให้ออกสำเนาเอกสารนั้นเป็นกฤษฎีกาในทุกมณฑล นำไปป่าวร้องให้ชนชาติทั้งปวงพร้อมเพื่อวันนั้น
14A copy of the letter, that the decree should be given out in every province, was published to all the peoples, that they should be ready against that day.
15บรรดาคนเดินข่าวก็รีบไปตามพระบัญชาของกษัตริย์ และออกกฤษฎีกานั้นในสุสาปราสาท กษัตริย์ก็ประทับดื่มกับฮามาน ส่วนชาวนครสุสาพากันงุนงง
15The couriers went forth in haste by the king’s commandment, and the decree was given out in the citadel of Susa. The king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city of Shushan was perplexed.
