¹ดังนี้ฟ้าและแผ่นดินโลกและบรรดาบริวารก็ถูกสร้างขึ้นให้สำเร็จ

¹The heavens and the earth were finished, and all their vast array.

²ในวันที่เจ็ดพระเจ้าก็เสร็จงานของพระองค์ซึ่งพระองค์ได้ทรงสร้างมาแล้วนั้น และในวันที่เจ็ดพระองค์ทรงพักการงานทั้งสิ้นของพระองค์ซึ่งพระองค์ได้ทรงสร้างมาแล้วนั้น

²On the seventh day God finished his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

³พระเจ้าทรงอวยพระพรวันที่เจ็ดและทรงตั้งวันนี้ไว้เป็นวันบริสุทธิ์ เพราะในวันนั้นพระองค์ได้ทรงหยุดพักจากการงานทั้งสิ้นของพระองค์ซึ่งพระเจ้าได้ทรงเนรมิตสร้างไว้แล้วนั้น

³God blessed the seventh day, and made it holy, because he rested in it from all his work which he had created and made.

⁴เรื่องราวของฟ้าและแผ่นดินโลกเมื่อถูกเนรมิตสร้างนั้นเป็นดังนี้ ในวันที่พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าได้ทรงสร้างแผ่นดินโลกและฟ้า

⁴This is the history of the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. God made the earth and the heavens.

⁵บรรดาต้นไม้ตามทุ่งนายังไม่เกิดขึ้นบนแผ่นดินโลก และบรรดาผักตามทุ่งนายังไม่งอกขึ้นเลย เพราะพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้ายังไม่ให้ฝนตกบนแผ่นดินโลก และยังไม่มีมนุษย์ที่จะทำไร่ไถนา

⁵No plant of the field was yet in the earth, and no herb of the field had yet sprung up; for Yahweh God had not caused it to rain on the earth. There was not a man to till the ground,

⁶แต่มีหมอกขึ้นมาจากแผ่นดินโลก ทำให้พื้นแผ่นดินเปียกทั่วไป

⁶but a mist went up from the earth, and watered the whole surface of the ground.

⁷พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าทรงปั้นมนุษย์ด้วยผงคลีดิน ทรงระบายลมปราณแห่งชีวิตเข้าทางจมูกของเขา และมนุษย์จึงเกิดเป็นจิตวิญญาณมีชีวิตอยู่

⁷Yahweh God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

⁸พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าทรงปลูกสวนแห่งหนึ่งไว้ในเอเดนทางทิศตะวันออก และพระองค์ได้ทรงให้มนุษย์ซึ่งพระองค์ได้ทรงปั้นมานั้นอาศัยอยู่ที่นั่น

⁸Yahweh God planted a garden eastward, in Eden, and there he put the man whom he had formed.

⁹แล้วพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าทรงให้บรรดาต้นไม้ที่งามน่าดูและที่เหมาะสำหรับเป็นอาหารงอกขึ้นบนแผ่นดินโลก มีต้นไม้แห่งชีวิตอยู่ท่ามกลางสวนด้วย และมีต้นไม้แห่งความรู้ดีและรู้ชั่ว

⁹Out of the ground Yahweh God made every tree to grow that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the middle of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

¹⁰มีแม่น้ำสายหนึ่งไหลออกจากเอเดนรดสวนนั้น จากที่นั่นได้แยกออกเป็นแม่น้ำสี่สาย

¹⁰A river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it was parted, and became four heads.

¹¹ชื่อของแม่น้ำสายที่หนึ่งคือปิโชน ซึ่งไหลรอบแผ่นดินฮาวิลาห์ ที่นั่นมีแร่ทองคำ

¹¹The name of the first is Pishon: this is the one which flows through the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

¹²ทองคำที่แผ่นดินนั้นเป็นทองคำเนื้อดี มียางไม้หอม และพลอยสีน้ำข้าว

¹²and the gold of that land is good. There is aromatic resin and the onyx stone.

¹³ชื่อแม่น้ำสายที่สองคือกิโฮน แม่น้ำสายนี้ได้ไหลรอบแผ่นดินเอธิโอเปีย

¹³The name of the second river is Gihon: the same river that flows through the whole land of Cush.

¹⁴ชื่อแม่น้ำสายที่สามคือไทกริส ซึ่งได้ไหลไปทางทิศตะวันออกของแผ่นดินอัสซีเรีย และแม่น้ำสายที่สี่คือยูเฟรติส

¹⁴The name of the third river is Hiddekel: this is the one which flows in front of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.

¹⁵พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าจึงทรงนำมนุษย์ไปอยู่ในสวนเอเดนให้ทำและรักษาสวน

¹⁵Yahweh God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

¹⁶พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าจึงทรงมีพระดำรัสสั่งมนุษย์นั้นว่า "บรรดาต้นไม้ทุกอย่างในสวนเจ้ากินได้ทั้งหมด

¹⁶Yahweh God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat;

¹⁷แต่ต้นไม้แห่งความรู้ดีและรู้ชั่วเจ้าอย่ากินผลจากต้นนั้นเป็นอันขาด เพราะว่าเจ้ากินในวันใด เจ้าจะตายแน่ในวันนั้น"

¹⁷but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it; for in the day that you eat of it you will surely die.”

¹⁸พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าตรัสว่า "ซึ่งมนุษย์นั้นอยู่คนเดียวก็ไม่เหมาะ เราจะสร้างผู้อุปถัมภ์ให้เขา"

¹⁸Yahweh God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.”

¹⁹พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าทรงปั้นบรรดาสัตว์ในทุ่งนา และบรรดานกในอากาศจากดิน แล้วจึงพามายังอาดัมเพื่อดูว่าเขาจะเรียกชื่อพวกมันว่าอะไร อาดัมได้เรียกชื่อบรรดาสัตว์ที่มีชีวิตอย่างไร สัตว์ก็มีชื่ออย่างนั้น

¹⁹Out of the ground Yahweh God formed every animal of the field, and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. Whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.

²⁰อาดัมได้ตั้งชื่อบรรดาสัตว์ใช้งาน บรรดานกในอากาศ และบรรดาสัตว์ในทุ่งนา แต่ว่าสำหรับอาดัมยังไม่พบผู้อุปถัมภ์

²⁰The man gave names to all livestock, and to the birds of the sky, and to every animal of the field; but for man there was not found a helper suitable for him.

²¹แล้วพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าทรงกระทำให้อาดัมหลับสนิท และเขาได้หลับสนิท พระองค์จึงทรงชักกระดูกซี่โครงอันหนึ่งของเขาออกมา และทรงกระทำให้เนื้อที่ซี่โครงติดกัน

²¹Yahweh God caused a deep sleep to fall on the man, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place.

²²กระดูกซี่โครงซึ่งพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าได้ทรงชักจากชายนั้น พระองค์ทรงสร้างให้เป็นหญิงคนหนึ่ง และทรงนำเธอมาให้ชายนั้น

²²He made the rib, which Yahweh God had taken from the man, into a woman, and brought her to the man.

²³อาดัมจึงว่า "บัดนี้ นี่เป็นกระดูกจากกระดูกของเรา และเนื้อจากเนื้อของเรา จะต้องเรียกเธอว่าหญิง เพราะว่าหญิงนี้ออกมาจากชาย

²³The man said, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken out of Man.”

²⁴เหตุฉะนั้นผู้ชายจะจากบิดามารดาของเขา จะไปผูกพันอยู่กับภรรยา และเขาทั้งสองจะเป็นเนื้ออันเดียวกัน"

²⁴Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh.

²⁵เขาทั้งสองยังเปลือยกายอยู่ ผู้ชายและภรรยาของเขายังไม่มีความอาย

²⁵They were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
