¹เกิดกันดารอาหารในแผ่นดินนั้น นอกเหนือจากการกันดารอาหารครั้งก่อนในสมัยอับราฮัม และอิสอัคไปหาอาบีเมเลคกษัตริย์แห่งชาวฟีลิสเตียที่เมืองเก-ราร์

¹There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar.

²พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงปรากฏแก่ท่านและตรัสว่า "อย่าลงไปอียิปต์เลย จงอาศัยในแผ่นดินซึ่งเราจะบอกเจ้าเถิด

²Yahweh appeared to him, and said, “Don’t go down into Egypt. Live in the land I will tell you about.

³จงอาศัยอยู่ในแผ่นดินนี้ แล้วเราจะอยู่กับเจ้าและอวยพรเจ้า เพราะว่าเราจะให้แผ่นดินเหล่านี้ทั้งหมดแก่เจ้าและแก่เชื้อสายของเจ้า เราจะทำให้คำปฏิญาณซึ่งเราได้ปฏิญาณไว้กับอับราฮัมบิดาของเจ้านั้นสำเร็จ

³Live in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For to you, and to your seed, I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.

⁴เราจะทวีเชื้อสายของเจ้าให้มากขึ้นดังดาวบนฟ้าและจะให้แผ่นดินเหล่านี้ทั้งหมดแก่เชื้อสายของเจ้า ประชาชาติทั้งหลายในโลกจะได้รับพรก็เพราะเชื้อสายของเจ้า

⁴I will multiply your seed as the stars of the sky, and will give to your seed all these lands. In your seed will all the nations of the earth be blessed,

⁵เพราะว่าอับราฮัมได้เชื่อฟังเสียงของเราและได้รักษาคำกำชับของเรา บัญญัติของเรา กฎเกณฑ์ของเรา และราชบัญญัติของเรา"

⁵because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my requirements, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”

⁶อิสอัคจึงอาศัยอยู่ในเมืองเก-ราร์

⁶Isaac lived in Gerar.

⁷คนเมืองนั้นจึงถามท่านเรื่องภรรยาของท่าน ท่านจึงว่า "เธอเป็นน้องสาวของข้าพเจ้า" เพราะท่านกลัวที่จะพูดว่า "เธอเป็นภรรยาของข้าพเจ้า" คิดไปว่า "มิฉะนั้นแล้วคนเมืองนี้จะฆ่าข้าพเจ้าเพื่อแย่งเอาเรเบคาห์" เพราะว่านางมีรูปงาม

⁷The men of the place asked him about his wife. He said, “She is my sister,” for he was afraid to say, “My wife,” lest, he thought, “the men of the place might kill me for Rebekah, because she is beautiful to look at.”

⁸และต่อมาเมื่อท่านอยู่ที่นั่นนานแล้ว อาบีเมเลคกษัตริย์ชาวฟีลิสเตียทอดพระเนตรตามช่องพระแกล และดูเถิด เห็นอิสอัคกำลังหยอกเล่นกับเรเบคาห์ภรรยาของตน

⁸It happened, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was caressing Rebekah, his wife.

⁹อาบีเมเลคจึงเรียกอิสอัคมาเฝ้า และตรัสว่า "ดูเถิด นางเป็นภรรยาของเจ้าแน่แล้ว ทำไมเจ้าจึงพูดว่า `เธอเป็นน้องสาวของข้าพระองค์'" อิสอัคทูลพระองค์ว่า "เพราะข้าพระองค์คิดว่า `มิฉะนั้นข้าจะตายเพราะนาง'"

⁹Abimelech called Isaac, and said, “Behold, surely she is your wife. Why did you say, ‘She is my sister?’” Isaac said to him, “Because I said, ‘Lest I die because of her.’”

¹⁰อาบีเมเลคตรัสว่า "ท่านทำอะไรแก่พวกเรา ดังนี้ประชาชนคนหนึ่งอาจจะเข้าไปนอนกับภรรยาของเจ้าง่ายๆ แล้วเจ้าจะนำความผิดมาสู่พวกเรา"

¹⁰Abimelech said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt on us!”

¹¹อาบีเมเลคจึงทรงรับสั่งประชาชนทั้งปวงว่า "ผู้ใดแตะต้องชายคนนี้หรือภรรยาของเขาจะต้องถูกประหารชีวิตเป็นแน่"

¹¹Abimelech commanded all the people, saying, “He who touches this man or his wife will surely be put to death.”

¹²อิสอัคได้หว่านพืชในแผ่นดินนั้น ในปีเดียวกันนั้นก็เก็บผลได้หนึ่งร้อยเท่า พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงอวยพระพรแก่ท่าน

¹²Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year one hundred times what he planted. Yahweh blessed him.

¹³อิสอัคก็จำเริญมีกำไรทวียิ่งขึ้นจนท่านเป็นคนมั่งมีมาก

¹³The man grew great, and grew more and more until he became very great.

¹⁴ด้วยว่าท่านมีฝูงแพะแกะ และฝูงวัวเป็นกรรมสิทธิ์และมีบริวารมากมาย ชาวฟีลิสเตียจึงอิจฉาท่าน

¹⁴He had possessions of flocks, possessions of herds, and a great household. The Philistines envied him.

¹⁵ฝ่ายชาวฟีลิสเตียได้อุดและเอาดินถมบ่อทุกบ่อ ซึ่งคนใช้ของบิดาท่านขุดไว้ในสมัยอับราฮัมบิดาของท่าน

¹⁵Now all the wells which his father’s servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped, and filled with earth.

¹⁶อาบีเมเลคตรัสกับอิสอัคว่า "ไปเสียจากเราเถิด เพราะท่านมีกำลังมากกว่าพวกเรา"

¹⁶Abimelech said to Isaac, “Go from us, for you are much mightier than we.”

¹⁷อิสอัคจึงออกจากที่นั่น ไปตั้งเต็นท์อยู่ที่หุบเขาเก-ราร์และอาศัยอยู่ที่นั่น

¹⁷Isaac departed from there, encamped in the valley of Gerar, and lived there.

¹⁸อิสอัคขุดบ่อน้ำซึ่งขุดไว้ในสมัยของอับราฮัมบิดาของท่านอีก เพราะหลังจากที่อับราฮัมได้สิ้นชีพแล้วชาวฟีลิสเตียได้อุดเสีย แล้วท่านก็ตั้งชื่อตามชื่อที่บิดาของท่านตั้งไว้

¹⁸Isaac dug again the wells of water, which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father. For the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham. He called their names after the names by which his father had called them.

¹⁹และคนใช้ของอิสอัคขุดในหุบเขาและพบบ่อน้ำพุพลุ่งขึ้นมา

¹⁹Isaac’s servants dug in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.

²⁰คนเลี้ยงสัตว์ของเมืองเก-ราร์ก็มาทะเลาะกับคนเลี้ยงสัตว์ของอิสอัคอ้างว่า "น้ำนั้นเป็นของเรา" ท่านจึงเรียกชื่อบ่อนั้นว่า เอเสก เพราะเขาทั้งหลายมาทะเลาะกับท่าน

²⁰The herdsmen of Gerar argued with Isaac’s herdsmen, saying, “The water is ours.” He called the name of the well Esek, because they contended with him.

²¹แล้วพวกเขาก็ขุดบ่อน้ำอีกบ่อหนึ่ง และทะเลาะกันเรื่องบ่อนั้นด้วย ท่านจึงเรียกชื่อบ่อนั้นว่า สิตนาห์

²¹They dug another well, and they argued over that, also. He called its name Sitnah.

²²ท่านย้ายจากที่นั่นไปขุดอีกบ่อหนึ่ง แล้วเขาก็มิได้ทะเลาะกันเรื่องบ่อนั้น ท่านจึงเรียกชื่อบ่อนั้นว่า เรโหโบท ท่านกล่าวว่า "เพราะบัดนี้พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงประทานที่อยู่แก่เรา และเราจะทวีมากขึ้นในแผ่นดินนี้"

²²He left that place, and dug another well. They didn’t argue over that one. He called it Rehoboth. He said, “For now Yahweh has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the land.”

²³และท่านก็ออกจากที่นั่นไปยังเมืองเบเออร์เชบา

²³He went up from there to Beersheba.

²⁴พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงปรากฏแก่ท่านในคืนเดียวกันนั้น ตรัสว่า "เราเป็นพระเจ้าของอับราฮัม บิดาของเจ้า อย่ากลัวเลย ด้วยว่าเราอยู่กับเจ้าและจะอวยพรเจ้า และทวีเชื้อสายของเจ้าให้มากขึ้นเพราะเห็นแก่อับราฮัมผู้รับใช้ของเรา"

²⁴Yahweh appeared to him the same night, and said, “I am the God of Abraham your father. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your seed for my servant Abraham’s sake.”

²⁵ท่านจึงสร้างแท่นบูชาที่นั่น และนมัสการออกพระนามพระเยโฮวาห์ และตั้งเต็นท์ของท่านที่นั่น แล้วคนใช้ของอิสอัคขุดบ่อน้ำที่นั่น

²⁵He built an altar there, and called on the name of Yahweh, and pitched his tent there. There Isaac’s servants dug a well.

²⁶ฝ่ายอาบีเมเลคออกจากเมืองเก-ราร์พร้อมกับอาฮุสซัทสหายคนหนึ่งของพระองค์ กับฟีโคล์ผู้บัญชาการทหารของพระองค์ไปหาท่าน

²⁶Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath his friend, and Phicol the captain of his army.

²⁷อิสอัคทูลถามเขาทั้งหลายว่า "ไฉนท่านจึงมาหาข้าพเจ้าเมื่อท่านเกลียดชังข้าพเจ้าและขับไล่ข้าพเจ้าไปจากท่าน"

²⁷Isaac said to them, “Why have you come to me, since you hate me, and have sent me away from you?”

²⁸พวกเขาตอบว่า "เราเห็นชัดเจนแล้วว่าพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงสถิตกับท่าน เราจึงว่า ขอให้กระทำปฏิญาณระหว่างท่านและเราทั้งหลาย และขอให้เรากระทำพันธสัญญากับท่าน

²⁸They said, “We saw plainly that Yahweh was with you. We said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let us make a covenant with you,

²⁹เพื่อว่าท่านจะไม่ทำอันตรายแก่เรา ดังที่เรามิได้แตะต้องท่านและไม่ได้กระทำสิ่งใดแก่ท่านเว้นแต่การดี และได้ส่งท่านไปอย่างสันติ บัดนี้ท่านเป็นผู้ที่พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงอวยพระพร"

²⁹that you will do us no harm, as we have not touched you, and as we have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace.’ You are now the blessed of Yahweh.”

³⁰ท่านจึงจัดการเลี้ยงให้แก่พวกเขา และเขาก็ได้กินและดื่ม

³⁰He made them a feast, and they ate and drank.

³¹ครั้นรุ่งเช้าทั้งสองฝ่ายก็ตื่นแต่เช้ามืด กระทำปฏิญาณต่อกัน และอิสอัคไปส่งพวกเขา พวกเขาก็จากท่านไปอย่างสันติ

³¹They rose up some time in the morning, and swore one to another. Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.

³²และต่อมาในวันนั้นเองคนใช้ของอิสอัคมาบอกท่านถึงเรื่องบ่อน้ำซึ่งเขาได้ขุดและกล่าวแก่ท่านว่า "เราพบน้ำแล้ว"

³²It happened the same day, that Isaac’s servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had dug, and said to him, “We have found water.”

³³ท่านเรียกบ่อนั้นว่า เชบา เมืองนั้นจึงมีชื่อว่า เบเออร์เชบา จนทุกวันนี้

³³He called it Shibah. Shibah means “oath” or “seven.” Therefore the name of the city is Beersheba Beersheba means “well of the oath” or “well of the seven” to this day.

³⁴เอซาวมีอายุสี่สิบปีเมื่อท่านรับยูดิธบุตรสาวของเบเออรีคนฮิตไทต์และบาเสมัทบุตรสาวของเอโลนคนฮิตไทต์เป็นภรรยา

³⁴When Esau was forty years old, he took as wife Judith, the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath, the daughter of Elon the Hittite.

³⁵หญิงเหล่านั้นทำให้อิสอัคและเรเบคาห์มีใจโศกเศร้า

³⁵They grieved Isaac’s and Rebekah’s spirits.
