1ครั้งเมื่ออิสราเอลยังเด็กอยู่ เราก็รักเขา เราได้เรียกบุตรชายของเราออกมาจากประเทศอียิปต์
1“When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.
2พวกเขายิ่งเรียกเขามากเท่าใด เขายิ่งออกไปห่างจากพวกเขามากเท่านั้น เขาถวายสัตวบูชาแก่พระบาอัล และเผาเครื่องหอมถวายแก่รูปเคารพสลักอยู่เรื่อยไป
2They called to them, so they went from them. They sacrificed to the Baals, and burned incense to engraved images.
3แต่เรานี่แหละสอนเอฟราอิมให้เดิน เราอุ้มเขาทั้งหลายไว้ แต่เขาหาทราบไม่ว่า เราเป็นผู้รักษาเขาให้หาย
3Yet I taught Ephraim to walk. I took them by his arms; but they didn’t know that I healed them.
4เราจูงเขาด้วยสายมนุษยและด้วยปลอกแห่งความรัก เราเป็นผู้ถอดแอกที่ขากรรไกรของเขาออก และเราก้มลงเลี้ยงเขา
4I drew them with cords of a man, with ties of love; and I was to them like those who lift up the yoke on their necks; and I bent down to him and I fed him.
5เขาจะไม่กลับไปยังแผ่นดินอียิปต์ แต่อัสซีเรียจะเป็นกษัตริย์ของเขา เพราะเขาปฏิเสธไม่ยอมกลับมา
5“They won’t return into the land of Egypt; but the Assyrian will be their king, because they refused to repent.
6ดาบจะรุกรานบรรดาหัวเมืองของเขา ทำลายกิ่งทั้งหลายของเขาเสียและกลืนกินเขาเสีย เพราะแผนการของเขา
6The sword will fall on their cities, and will destroy the bars of their gates, and will put an end to their plans.
7ประชาชนของเราโน้มไปในทางเหินห่างจากเรา ถึงแม้พวกเขาเรียกเขาทั้งหลายให้มาหาพระองค์ผู้สูงสุด ไม่มีใครยอมยกย่องพระองค์
7My people are determined to turn from me. Though they call to the Most High, he certainly won’t exalt them.
8โอ เอฟราอิมเอ๋ย เราจะปล่อยเจ้าได้อย่างไร โอ อิสราเอลเอ๋ย เราจะโยนเจ้าไปให้ผู้อื่นได้อย่างไร เราจะปล่อยเจ้าให้เหมือนเมืองอัดมาห์ได้อย่างไร เรากระทำเจ้าให้เหมือนเมืองเศโบยิมได้อย่างไร จิตใจของเราปั่นป่วนอยู่ภายใน ความเอ็นดูของเราก็คุกรุ่นขึ้น
8“How can I give you up, Ephraim? How can I hand you over, Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I make you like Zeboiim? My heart is turned within me, my compassion is aroused.
9เราจะไม่ลงอาชญาตามที่เรากริ้วจัด เราจะไม่กลับไปทำลายเอฟราอิมอีก เพราะเราเป็นพระเจ้าไม่ใช่มนุษย์ เราเป็นผู้บริสุทธิ์ท่ามกลางพวกเจ้า เราจะไม่เข้าในเมือง
9I will not execute the fierceness of my anger. I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of you; and I will not come in wrath.
10เขาทั้งหลายจะติดตามพระเยโฮวาห์ไป ผู้ซึ่งมีสิงหนาทดั่งราชสีห์ เออ พระองค์จะทรงเปล่งพระสิงหนาท และบุตรทั้งหลายของพระองค์จะตัวสั่นสะท้านมาจากทิศตะวันตก
10They will walk after Yahweh, who will roar like a lion; for he will roar, and the children will come trembling from the west.
11เขาจะตัวสั่นสะท้านมาเหมือนวิหคจากอียิปต์ และเหมือนนกเขาจากแผ่นดินอัสซีเรีย เราจะให้เขากลับไปบ้านของเขา พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้แหละ
11They will come trembling like a bird out of Egypt, and like a dove out of the land of Assyria; and I will settle them in their houses,” says Yahweh.
12เอฟราอิมได้กั้นล้อมเราไว้ด้วยความมุสา และวงศ์วานอิสราเอลล้อมเราด้วยเล่ห์ลวง แต่ยูดาห์ยังปกครองอยู่กับพระเจ้าและสัตย์ซื่ออยู่กับพวกวิสุทธิชน
12Ephraim surrounds me with falsehood, and the house of Israel with deceit. Judah still strays from God, and is unfaithful to the Holy One.
