¹พระวจนะซึ่งมาจากพระเยโฮวาห์ยังเยเรมีย์ว่า

¹The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

²"จงลุกขึ้นไปที่บ้านของช่างหม้อ เราจะให้เจ้าได้ยินถ้อยคำของเราที่นั่น"

²Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear my words.

³ข้าพเจ้าจึงลงไปที่บ้านของช่างหม้อ และดูเถิด เขากำลังทำงานอยู่ที่แป้นเวียน

³Then I went down to the potter’s house, and behold, he was making a work on the wheels.

⁴และภาชนะซึ่งทำด้วยดินก็เสียอยู่ในมือของช่างหม้อ เขาจึงปั้นใหม่ให้เป็นภาชนะอีกลูกหนึ่งตามที่ช่างหม้อเห็นว่าควรทำ

⁴When the vessel that he made of the clay was marred in the hand of the potter, he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

⁵แล้วพระวจนะของพระเยโฮวาห์มายังข้าพเจ้าว่า

⁵Then the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

⁶"วงศ์วานอิสราเอลเอ๋ย เราจะกระทำแก่เจ้าอย่างที่ช่างหม้อนี้กระทำไม่ได้หรือ พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้แหละ ดูเถิด วงศ์วานอิสราเอลเอ๋ย เจ้าอยู่ในมือของเราอย่างดินเหนียวอยู่ในมือของช่างหม้อ

⁶House of Israel, can’t I do with you as this potter? says Yahweh. Behold, as the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, house of Israel.

⁷ถ้าเวลาใดก็ตามเราประกาศเกี่ยวกับประชาชาติหนึ่งหรือราชอาณาจักรหนึ่งว่า เราจะถอนและพังและทำลายมันเสีย

⁷At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it;

⁸และถ้าประชาชาตินั้น ซึ่งเราได้ลั่นวาจาไว้เกี่ยวข้องด้วย หันเสียจากความชั่วร้ายของตน เราก็จะกลับใจจากความชั่วซึ่งเราได้ตั้งใจจะกระทำแก่ชาตินั้นเสีย

⁸if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do to them.

⁹และถ้าเวลาใดก็ตาม เราได้ประกาศเกี่ยวกับประชาชาติหนึ่งหรือราชอาณาจักรหนึ่งว่า เราจะสร้างขึ้นและปลูกฝังไว้

⁹At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;

¹⁰และถ้าชาตินั้นได้กระทำชั่วในสายตาของเรา ไม่เชื่อฟังเสียงของเรา เราก็จะกลับใจจากความดีซึ่งเราได้กล่าวไปแล้วว่าเราจะให้ประโยชน์แก่ชาตินั้นเสีย

¹⁰if they do that which is evil in my sight, that they not obey my voice, then I will repent of the good, with which I said I would benefit them.

¹¹เพราะฉะนั้น คราวนี้จงกล่าวกับคนยูดาห์และชาวเมืองเยรูซาเล็มว่า `พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสดังนี้ว่า ดูเถิด เรากำลังก่อสิ่งร้ายไว้สู้เจ้า และคิดแผนงานอย่างหนึ่งไว้สู้เจ้า ทุกๆคนจงกลับเสียจากทางชั่วของตน และจงซ่อมทางและการกระทำของเจ้าทั้งหลายเสีย'

¹¹Now therefore, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus says Yahweh: Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return you now everyone from his evil way, and amend your ways and your doings.

¹²แต่เขาทั้งหลายกล่าวว่า `เหลวไหล เราจะดำเนินตามแผนงานของเราเอง และต่างจะกระทำตามความดื้อดึงแห่งจิตใจชั่วของตนทุกคน'

¹²But they say, It is in vain; for we will walk after our own devices, and we will do everyone after the stubbornness of his evil heart.

¹³เพราะฉะนั้น พระเยโฮวาห์จึงตรัสดังนี้ว่า จงไปเที่ยวถามดูท่ามกลางประชาชาติว่า ผู้ใดเคยได้ยินเหมือนอย่างนี้บ้าง อิสราเอลพรหมจารีนั้นได้กระทำสิ่งอันน่าหวาดเสียวนัก

¹³Therefore thus says Yahweh: Ask now among the nations, who has heard such things; the virgin of Israel has done a very horrible thing.

¹⁴คนจะละทิ้งหิมะแห่งภูเขาเลบานอนซึ่งมาจากหน้าผาแห่งทุ่งหรือ ลำธารที่ไหลเย็นจากที่อื่นจะแห้งไปหรือ

¹⁴Shall the snow of Lebanon fail from the rock of the field? Shall the cold waters that flow down from afar be dried up?

¹⁵เพราะเหตุว่าประชาชนของเราได้ลืมเราเสีย เขาทั้งหลายจึงเผาเครื่องหอมบูชาพระเท็จ ทำให้เขาได้สะดุดในหนทางของเขาในถนนโบราณ และเข้าไปตามทางซอยไม่ไปตามถนนหลวง

¹⁵For my people have forgotten me, they have burned incense to false gods; and they have been made to stumble in their ways, in the ancient paths, to walk in byways, in a way not built up;

¹⁶ได้กระทำให้แผ่นดินของเขาทั้งหลายเป็นที่รกร้าง เป็นสิ่งที่เขาเย้ยหยันอยู่เนืองนิตย์ ทุกคนที่ผ่านไปทางนั้นก็ตกตะลึงและสั่นศีรษะของเขา

¹⁶to make their land an astonishment, and a perpetual hissing; everyone who passes thereby shall be astonished, and shake his head.

¹⁷เราจะให้เขากระจัดกระจายออกไปดุจถูกพัดด้วยลมตะวันออกต่อหน้าศัตรู เราจะหันหลังให้เขา ไม่ใช่หันหน้าให้ ในวันแห่งความหายนะของเขานั้น"

¹⁷I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will show them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.

¹⁸แล้วเขากล่าวว่า "มาเถิด ให้เราปองร้ายเยเรมีย์ เพราะว่าพระราชบัญญัติจะไม่พินาศไปจากบรรดาปุโรหิต หรือคำปรึกษาย่อมไม่ขาดจากนักปราชญ์ หรือถ้อยคำไม่ขาดจากผู้พยากรณ์ มาเถิด ให้เราโจมตีเขาด้วยลิ้น และอย่าให้เราฟังคำของเขาเลย"

¹⁸Then they said, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.

¹⁹ข้าแต่พระเยโฮวาห์ ขอทรงฟังข้าพระองค์ ขอทรงฟังเสียงปรปักษ์ของข้าพระองค์สิ พระเจ้าข้า

¹⁹Give heed to me, Yahweh, and listen to the voice of those who contend with me.

²⁰ความชั่วเป็นของสำหรับตอบแทนความดีหรือ ถึงกระนั้น เขายังขุดหลุมไว้ปองชีวิตของข้าพระองค์ ขอทรงระลึกว่าข้าพระองค์ยืนเฝ้าพระองค์ทูลขอความดีเพื่อเขา เพื่อจะหันพระพิโรธของพระองค์ไปเสียจากเขา

²⁰Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before you to speak good for them, to turn away your wrath from them.

²¹เพราะฉะนั้น ขอทรงมอบลูกหลานของเขาให้แก่การกันดารอาหาร ให้โลหิตของเขาทั้งหลายไหลออกด้วยอำนาจของดาบ ให้ภรรยาของเขาทั้งหลายขาดบุตร และเป็นหญิงม่าย ขอให้ผู้ชายของเขาประสบความตาย ให้อนุชนของเขาถูกดาบตายในสงคราม

²¹Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and give them over to the power of the sword; and let their wives become childless, and widows; and let their men be slain of death, and their young men struck of the sword in battle.

²²ขอให้ได้ยินเสียงร้องมาจากเรือนของเขาทั้งหลาย เมื่อพระองค์ทรงพากองทหารมาปล้นเขาอย่างฉับพลัน เพราะเขาทั้งหลายได้ขุดหลุมไว้ดักข้าพระองค์ และวางบ่วงดักเท้าของข้าพระองค์

²²Let a cry be heard from their houses, when you shall bring a troop suddenly on them; for they have dug a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.

²³แม้กระนั้น ข้าแต่พระเยโฮวาห์ พระองค์ทรงทราบการปองร้ายทั้งสิ้นของเขาที่จะฆ่าข้าพระองค์เสีย ขออย่าทรงลบความชั่วช้าของเขา หรือลบบาปของเขาเสียจากสายพระเนตรของพระองค์ ขอให้เขาถูกคว่ำลงต่อพระพักตร์พระองค์ ขอทรงจัดการเขาทั้งหลายในเวลาแห่งความกริ้วของพระองค์

²³Yet, Yahweh, you know all their counsel against me to kill me; don’t forgive their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from your sight; but let them be overthrown before you; deal you with them in the time of your anger.
