¹และคนอิสราเอลก็ได้กระทำชั่วในสายพระเนตรของพระเยโฮวาห์ และพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงมอบเขาไว้ในมือของคนมีเดียนเจ็ดปี

¹The children of Israel did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh: and Yahweh delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.

²และมือของคนมีเดียนก็มีชัยชนะต่ออิสราเอล เพราะเหตุคนมีเดียน ประชาชนอิสราเอลจึงต้องทำที่หลบซ่อนซึ่งอยู่ในภูเขาให้แก่ตนเอง คือถ้ำ และที่กำบังที่เข้มแข็ง

²The hand of Midian prevailed against Israel; and because of Midian the children of Israel made them the dens which are in the mountains, and the caves, and the strongholds.

³เพราะว่าคนอิสราเอลหว่านพืชเมื่อไร คนมีเดียนและคนอามาเลขและชาวตะวันออกก็ขึ้นมาสู้รบกับเขา

³So it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east; they came up against them;

⁴เขามาตั้งค่ายไว้แล้วทำลายพืชผลแห่งแผ่นดินเสีย ไกลไปถึงเมืองกาซา ไม่ให้มีเครื่องบริโภคเหลือในอิสราเอลเลย ไม่ว่าแกะ หรือวัว หรือลา

⁴and they encamped against them, and destroyed the increase of the earth, until you come to Gaza, and left no sustenance in Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor donkey.

⁵เพราะว่าคนเหล่านั้นจะขึ้นมาพร้อมทั้งฝูงสัตว์และเต็นท์ เขามาเหมือนตั๊กแตนเป็นฝูงๆ ทั้งคนและอูฐก็นับไม่ถ้วน เมื่อเขาเข้ามา เขาก็ทำลายแผ่นดินเสียอย่างนี้แหละ

⁵For they came up with their livestock and their tents; they came in as locusts for multitude; both they and their camels were without number: and they came into the land to destroy it.

⁶พวกอิสราเอลจึงตกต่ำลงมากเพราะคนมีเดียน คนอิสราเอลก็ร้องทุกข์ถึงพระเยโฮวาห์

⁶Israel was brought very low because of Midian; and the children of Israel cried to Yahweh.

⁷ต่อมาเมื่อคนอิสราเอลร้องทุกข์ถึงพระเยโฮวาห์ เพราะคนมีเดียน

⁷It happened, when the children of Israel cried to Yahweh because of Midian,

⁸พระเยโฮวาห์ก็ทรงใช้ผู้พยากรณ์คนหนึ่งให้มาหาคนอิสราเอล ผู้นั้นพูดกับเขาทั้งหลายว่า "พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของอิสราเอลตรัสดังนี้ว่า `เราได้นำพวกเจ้าขึ้นมาจากอียิปต์ นำเจ้าออกมาจากเรือนทาส

⁸that Yahweh sent a prophet to the children of Israel: and he said to them, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage;

⁹และเราได้ช่วยเจ้าให้พ้นจากเงื้อมมือของชาวอียิปต์ และให้พ้นจากมือของบรรดาผู้ที่บีบบังคับเจ้า และขับไล่เขาให้ออกไปเสียให้พ้นหน้าเจ้า และมอบแผ่นดินของเขาให้แก่เจ้า

⁹and I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all who oppressed you, and drove them out from before you, and gave you their land;

¹⁰และเราบอกกับเจ้าว่า "เราคือพระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเจ้า เจ้าอย่าเกรงกลัวพระของคนอาโมไรต์ ในแผ่นดินของเขาซึ่งเจ้าอาศัยอยู่นั้น" แต่เจ้าทั้งหลายหาได้เชื่อฟังเสียงของเราไม่'"

¹⁰and I said to you, “I am Yahweh your God; you shall not fear the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell.” But you have not listened to my voice.’”

¹¹ฝ่ายทูตสวรรค์องค์หนึ่งของพระเยโฮวาห์มานั่งอยู่ที่ใต้ต้นโอ๊กที่ตำบลโอฟราห์ ซึ่งเป็นของโยอาช คนอาบีเยเซอร์ ฝ่ายกิเดโอนบุตรชายของท่านกำลังนวดข้าวสาลีอยู่ในบ่อย่ำองุ่นเพื่อซ่อนให้พ้นตาคนมีเดียน

¹¹The angel of Yahweh came, and sat under the oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained to Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.

¹²ทูตสวรรค์ของพระเยโฮวาห์ปรากฏแก่กิเดโอนพูดกับเขาว่า "เจ้าบุรุษผู้กล้าหาญเอ๋ย พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงสถิตกับเจ้า"

¹²The angel of Yahweh appeared to him, and said to him, “Yahweh is with you, you mighty man of valor!”

¹³กิเดโอนจึงทูลท่านผู้นั้นว่า "โอ ท่านเจ้าข้า ถ้าพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงสถิตกับพวกเราแล้ว ไฉนเหตุเหล่านี้จึงเกิดขึ้นแก่เราเล่า และการอัศจรรย์ทั้งหลายของพระองค์ซึ่งบรรพบุรุษเคยเล่าให้เราฟังว่า `พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงนำเราออกจากอียิปต์มิใช่หรือ' แต่สมัยนี้พระเยโฮวาห์ทรงทอดทิ้งเราเสียแล้ว และทรงมอบเราไว้ในมือของพวกมีเดียน"

¹³Gideon said to him, “Oh, my lord, if Yahweh is with us, why then has all this happened to us? Where are all his wondrous works which our fathers told us of, saying, ‘Didn’t Yahweh bring us up from Egypt?’ But now Yahweh has cast us off, and delivered us into the hand of Midian.”

¹⁴และพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงหันมาหาเขาตรัสว่า "จงไปช่วยคนอิสราเอลให้พ้นจากเงื้อมมือพวกมีเดียนด้วยกำลังของเจ้านี่แหละ เราใช้เจ้าให้ไปแล้ว มิใช่หรือ"

¹⁴Yahweh looked at him, and said, “Go in this your might, and save Israel from the hand of Midian. Haven’t I sent you?”

¹⁵กิเดโอนจึงกราบทูลว่า "ข้าแต่องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า ข้าพระองค์จะช่วยอิสราเอลได้อย่างไร ดูเถิด ครอบครัวของข้าพระองค์ต่ำต้อยที่สุดในคนมนัสเสห์ และตัวข้าพระองค์ก็เป็นคนเล็กน้อยที่สุดในวงศ์วานบิดาของข้าพระองค์"

¹⁵He said to him, “O Lord The word translated “Lord” is “Adonai.” , how shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”

¹⁶พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับเขาว่า "แต่เราจะอยู่กับเจ้าแน่ และเจ้าจะได้โจมตีคนมีเดียนอย่างกับตีคนคนเดียว"

¹⁶Yahweh said to him, “Surely I will be with you, and you shall strike the Midianites as one man.”

¹⁷เขาก็ทูลพระองค์ว่า "ถ้าบัดนี้ข้าพระองค์ได้รับพระกรุณาในสายพระเนตรของพระองค์ ขอทรงโปรดสำแดงหมายสำคัญอย่างหนึ่งแก่ข้าพระองค์ว่า พระองค์เองตรัสกับข้าพระองค์

¹⁷He said to him, “If now I have found favor in your sight, then show me a sign that it is you who talk with me.

¹⁸ขอพระองค์อย่าเสด็จไปเสียจากที่นี่จนกว่าข้าพระองค์จะกลับมาหาพระองค์ และนำของมาตั้งถวายต่อพระพักตร์" และพระองค์ตรัสว่า "เราจะค่อยอยู่จนกว่าเจ้าจะกลับมาอีก"

¹⁸Please don’t go away, until I come to you, and bring out my present, and lay it before you.” He said, “I will wait until you come back.”

¹⁹กิเดโอนก็กลับเข้าบ้าน จัดลูกแพะตัวหนึ่งกับแป้งเอฟาห์หนึ่งทำขนมไร้เชื้อ เขาเอาเนื้อใส่กระจาด ส่วนน้ำแกงใส่ในหม้อ นำสิ่งเหล่านี้มาถวายพระองค์ที่ใต้ต้นโอ๊ก

¹⁹Gideon went in, and prepared a young goat, and unleavened cakes of an ephah 1 ephah is about 22 litres or about 2/3 of a bushel of meal. He put the meat in a basket and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out to him under the oak, and presented it.

²⁰และทูตสวรรค์ของพระเจ้าบอกเขาว่า "จงเอาเนื้อและขนมไร้เชื้อวางไว้บนศิลานี้ เทน้ำแกงราดของเหล่านั้น" กิเดโอนก็กระทำตาม

²⁰The angel of God said to him, “Take the meat and the unleavened cakes, and lay them on this rock, and pour out the broth.” He did so.

²¹แล้วทูตสวรรค์ของพระเยโฮวาห์ก็เอาปลายไม้ที่ถืออยู่แตะต้องเนื้อและขนมไร้เชื้อ และมีไฟลุกขึ้นมาจากศิลาไหม้เนื้อและขนมไร้เชื้อจนหมด และทูตสวรรค์ของพระเยโฮวาห์ก็หายไปพ้นสายตาของเขา

²¹Then the angel of Yahweh stretched out the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the meat and the unleavened cakes; and fire went up out of the rock, and consumed the meat and the unleavened cakes; and the angel of Yahweh departed out of his sight.

²²กิเดโอนก็ทราบว่าเป็นทูตสวรรค์องค์หนึ่งของพระเยโฮวาห์จริง และกิเดโอนพูดว่า "โอ องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าพระเจ้าเจ้าข้า บัดนี้ข้าพระองค์ได้เห็นทูตสวรรค์องค์หนึ่งของพระเยโฮวาห์ต่อหน้าต่อตา อนิจจาเอ๋ย"

²²Gideon saw that he was the angel of Yahweh; and Gideon said, “Alas, Lord Yahweh! Because I have seen the angel of Yahweh face to face!”

²³แต่พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับกิเดโอนว่า "สันติภาพจงมีอยู่แก่เจ้า เจ้าอย่ากลัวเลย เพราะเจ้าจะไม่ตาย"

²³Yahweh said to him, “Peace be to you! Don’t be afraid. You shall not die.”

²⁴ฝ่ายกิเดโอนก็สร้างแท่นบูชาแท่นหนึ่งถวายพระเยโฮวาห์ที่นั่น และเรียกตำบลนั้นว่า พระเยโฮวาห์ชาโลม ทุกวันนี้แท่นนั้นก็ยังอยู่ที่โอฟราห์ ซึ่งเป็นของคนอาบีเยเซอร์

²⁴Then Gideon built an altar there to Yahweh, and called it “Yahweh is Peace or, Yahweh Shalom .” To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.

²⁵อยู่มาในคืนวันนั้นพระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสสั่งกิเดโอนว่า "จงเอาวัวหนุ่มของบิดา คือวัวผู้ตัวที่สองที่มีอายุเจ็ดปีมา ไปพังแท่นพระบาอัลซึ่งบิดาของเจ้ามีอยู่นั้นลงเสีย จงโค่นเสารูปเคารพซึ่งอยู่ข้างๆแท่นเสียด้วย

²⁵It happened the same night, that Yahweh said to him, “Take your father’s bull, even the second bull seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the Asherah that is by it;

²⁶และสร้างแท่นบูชาถวายแด่พระเยโฮวาห์พระเจ้าของเจ้าที่บนป้อมนี้ ใช้ก้อนหินก่อให้เป็นระเบียบ แล้วนำวัวตัวที่สองนั้นฆ่าเสียถวายเป็นเครื่องเผาบูชา เผาด้วยไม้เสารูปเคารพซึ่งเจ้าโค่นมานั้น"

²⁶and build an altar to Yahweh your God on the top of this stronghold, in an orderly way, and take the second bull, and offer a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah which you shall cut down.”

²⁷กิเดโอนจึงนำคนใช้สิบคนไปกระทำตามที่พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสสั่งแก่เขา แต่เพราะกิเดโอนกลัวครอบครัวบิดาของตนและกลัวชาวเมือง จนไม่กล้าทำกลางวันจึงกระทำในเวลากลางคืน

²⁷Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as Yahweh had spoken to him: and it happened, because he feared his father’s household and the men of the city, so that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.

²⁸เมื่อชาวเมืองตื่นขึ้นในเช้าตรู่วันรุ่งขึ้น ดูเถิด แท่นบูชาพระบาอัลพังทลาย และเสารูปเคารพที่อยู่ข้างๆก็ถูกโค่นลง และมีวัวผู้ตัวที่สองวางบูชาอยู่บนแท่นที่สร้างขึ้นใหม่นั้น

²⁸When the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was broken down, and the Asherah was cut down that was by it, and the second bull was offered on the altar that was built.

²⁹เขาจึงพูดกันและกันว่า "ใครทำอย่างนี้นะ" เมื่อเขาได้สืบถามแล้ว เขาทั้งหลายจึงกล่าวว่า "กิเดโอนบุตรชายของโยอาชได้กระทำสิ่งนี้"

²⁹They said one to another, “Who has done this thing?” When they inquired and asked, they said, “Gideon the son of Joash has done this thing.”

³⁰แล้วชาวเมืองจึงบอกโยอาชว่า "จงมอบลูกของเจ้านั้นมาให้ประหารชีวิตเสีย เพราะเขาได้พังแท่นของพระบาอัลและโค่นเสารูปเคารพที่อยู่ข้างแท่นนั้น"

³⁰Then the men of the city said to Joash, “Bring out your son, that he may die, because he has broken down the altar of Baal, and because he has cut down the Asherah that was by it.”

³¹แต่โยอาชได้ตอบคนที่มาฟ้องนั้นว่า "ท่านทั้งหลายจะเป็นพยานแทนพระบาอัลหรือ จะสู้ความแทนหรือ ผู้ใดที่เป็นทนายแทนพระบาอัลจะต้องถูกประหารชีวิตเช้านี้แหละ ถ้าพระบาอัลเป็นพระแท้ก็ให้สู้คดีเองเถิด เพราะมีคนมาพังแท่นของท่านลง"

³¹Joash said to all who stood against him, “Will you contend for Baal? Or will you save him? He who will contend for him, let him be put to death by morning. If he is a god, let him contend for himself, because someone has broken down his altar.”

³²วันนั้นเขาจึงตั้งชื่อท่านว่า เยรุบบาอัล ใจความว่า "ให้บาอัลสู้คดีเอง" เพราะเขาพังแท่นของท่าน

³²Therefore on that day he named him Jerub-Baal, “Jerub-Baal” means “Let Baal contend.” saying, “Let Baal contend against him, because he has broken down his altar.”

³³ครั้งนั้นบรรดาคนมีเดียน และคนอามาเลข และชาวตะวันออกก็รวมกันยกทัพข้ามไปตั้งค่ายอยู่ในหุบเขายิสเรเอล

³³Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east assembled themselves together; and they passed over, and encamped in the valley of Jezreel.

³⁴แต่พระวิญญาณของพระเยโฮวาห์ทรงสถิตกับกิเดโอน ท่านก็เป่าแตร เรียกคนอาบีเยเซอร์ให้มาติดตามท่าน

³⁴But the Spirit of Yahweh came on Gideon; and he blew a trumpet; and Abiezer was gathered together after him.

³⁵และท่านส่งผู้สื่อสารไปทั่วมนัสเสห์ เรียกให้เขายกติดตามท่านไปด้วย และท่านส่งผู้สื่อสารไปยังอาเชอร์ เศบูลุน และนัฟทาลี คนเหล่านี้ก็ขึ้นมาปะทะข้าศึกด้วย

³⁵He sent messengers throughout all Manasseh; and they also were gathered together after him: and he sent messengers to Asher, and to Zebulun, and to Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.

³⁶กิเดโอนจึงทูลพระเจ้าว่า "ถ้าพระองค์จะช่วยอิสราเอลให้พ้นด้วยมือของข้าพระองค์ ดังที่พระองค์ตรัสแล้วนั้น

³⁶Gideon said to God, “If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken,

³⁷ดูเถิด ข้าพระองค์ได้วางกลุ่มขนแกะไว้ที่ลานนวดข้าว แม้มีน้ำค้างเฉพาะที่กลุ่มขนแกะเท่านั้น ส่วนที่พื้นดินโดยรอบนั้นแห้ง ข้าพระองค์ก็จะทราบว่า พระองค์จะทรงช่วยอิสราเอลให้พ้นด้วยมือของข้าพระองค์ ดังที่พระองค์ตรัสนั้น"

³⁷behold, I will put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor; if there is dew on the fleece only, and it is dry on all the ground, then shall I know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken.”

³⁸ก็เป็นไปดังนั้น เมื่อกิเดโอนตื่นขึ้นในวันรุ่งเช้าก็บีบกลุ่มขนแกะ เขาบีบได้น้ำค้างจากกลุ่มขนแกะจนเต็มชาม

³⁸It was so; for he rose up early on the next day, and pressed the fleece together, and wrung the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water.

³⁹แล้วกิเดโอนจึงทูลพระเจ้าว่า "ขออย่าให้พระพิโรธพลุ่งขึ้นต่อข้าพระองค์ ขอข้าพระองค์ทูลอีกสักครั้งเดียว ขอข้าพระองค์ทดลองด้วยกลุ่มขนแกะนี้อีกครั้งหนึ่งเถิด คราวนี้ขอให้แห้งเฉพาะที่กลุ่มขนแกะ ส่วนที่พื้นดินนั้นให้มีน้ำค้างโดยทั่วไป"

³⁹Gideon said to God, “Don’t let your anger be kindled against me, and I will speak but this once. Please let me make a trial just this once with the fleece. Let it now be dry only on the fleece, and on all the ground let there be dew.”

⁴⁰ในคืนวันนั้นพระเจ้าก็ทรงกระทำตามที่ขอ คือกลุ่มขนแกะนั้นแห้งอยู่ แต่มีน้ำค้างอยู่ทั่วพื้นดิน

⁴⁰God did so that night: for it was dry on the fleece only, and there was dew on all the ground.
