¹แล้วพระองค์ทรงตั้งต้นสั่งสอนที่ฝั่งทะเลอีก ฝูงชนเป็นอันมากพากันมาหาพระองค์ เหตุฉะนั้นพระองค์จึงได้เสด็จลงไปประทับในเรือที่ทะเล และฝูงชนอยู่บนฝั่งชายทะเล

¹Again he began to teach by the seaside. A great multitude was gathered to him, so that he entered into a boat in the sea, and sat down. All the multitude were on the land by the sea.

²พระองค์จึงตรัสสั่งสอนเขาหลายประการเป็นคำอุปมา และในการสอนนั้นพระองค์ตรัสแก่เขาว่า

²He taught them many things in parables, and told them in his teaching,

³"จงฟัง ดูเถิด มีผู้หว่านคนหนึ่งออกไปหว่านพืช

³ “Listen! Behold, the farmer went out to sow,

⁴และต่อมาเมื่อเขาหว่าน เมล็ดพืชก็ตกตามหนทางบ้าง แล้วนกในอากาศก็มากินเสีย

⁴ and it happened, as he sowed, some seed fell by the road, and the birds TR adds “of the air” came and devoured it.

⁵บ้างก็ตกที่ซึ่งมีพื้นหิน มีเนื้อดินแต่น้อย จึงงอกขึ้นโดยเร็วเพราะดินไม่ลึก

⁵ Others fell on the rocky ground, where it had little soil, and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of soil.

⁶แต่เมื่อแดดจัด แดดก็แผดเผา และเพราะรากไม่มี จึงเหี่ยวไป

⁶ When the sun had risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

⁷บ้างก็ตกกลางต้นหนาม ต้นหนามก็งอกขึ้นปกคลุมเสีย จึงไม่เกิดผล

⁷ Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

⁸บ้างก็ตกที่ดินดี แล้วงอกงามจำเริญขึ้น เกิดผลสามสิบเท่าบ้าง หกสิบเท่าบ้าง ร้อยเท่าบ้าง"

⁸ Others fell into the good ground, and yielded fruit, growing up and increasing. Some brought forth thirty times, some sixty times, and some one hundred times as much.”

⁹แล้วพระองค์ตรัสแก่เขาว่า "ใครมีหู จงฟังเถิด"

⁹He said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.”

¹⁰เมื่อพระองค์อยู่ตามลำพัง คนที่อยู่รอบพระองค์พร้อมกับสาวกสิบสองคน ได้ทูลถามพระองค์ถึงคำอุปมานั้น

¹⁰When he was alone, those who were around him with the twelve asked him about the parables.

¹¹พระองค์จึงตรัสแก่เขาว่า "ข้อความลึกลับแห่งอาณาจักรของพระเจ้าทรงโปรดให้ท่านทั้งหลายรู้ได้ แต่ฝ่ายคนนอกนั้นบรรดาข้อความเหล่านี้จะแจ้งให้เป็นคำอุปมาทุกอย่าง

¹¹He said to them, “To you is given the mystery of the Kingdom of God, but to those who are outside, all things are done in parables,

¹²เพื่อว่าเขาจะดูแล้วดูเล่า แต่มองไม่เห็น และฟังแล้วฟังเล่า แต่ไม่เข้าใจ เกลือกว่าในเวลาหนึ่งเวลาใดเขาจะกลับใจเสียใหม่ และความผิดบาปของเขาจะได้ยกโทษเสีย"

¹² that ‘seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest perhaps they should turn again, and their sins should be forgiven them.’” Isaiah 6:9-10

¹³พระองค์ตรัสกับเขาว่า "คำอุปมานั้นพวกท่านยังไม่เข้าใจหรือ ถ้ากระนั้นท่านทั้งหลายจะเข้าใจคำอุปมาทั้งปวงอย่างไรได้

¹³He said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How will you understand all of the parables?

¹⁴ผู้หว่านนั้นก็ได้หว่านพระวจนะ

¹⁴ The farmer sows the word.

¹⁵ซึ่งตกริมหนทางนั้นได้แก่พระวจนะที่หว่านแล้ว และเมื่อบุคคลใดได้ฟัง ในทันใดนั้นซาตานก็มาชิงเอาพระวจนะซึ่งหว่านในใจเขานั้นไปเสีย

¹⁵ The ones by the road are the ones where the word is sown; and when they have heard, immediately Satan comes, and takes away the word which has been sown in them.

¹⁶และซึ่งตกที่ซึ่งมีพื้นหิน มีเนื้อดินแต่น้อยนั้นก็ทำนองเดียวกัน ได้แก่บุคคลที่ได้ยินพระวจนะ และก็รับทันทีด้วยความปรีดี

¹⁶ These in the same way are those who are sown on the rocky places, who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with joy.

¹⁷แต่ไม่มีรากในตัวจึงทนอยู่ได้ชั่วคราว ภายหลังเมื่อเกิดการยากลำบากและการข่มเหงต่างๆเพราะพระวจนะนั้น ก็เลิกเสียในทันทีทันใด

¹⁷ They have no root in themselves, but are short-lived. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they stumble.

¹⁸และพืชซึ่งหว่านกลางหนามนั้นได้แก่บุคคลที่ได้ฟังพระวจนะ

¹⁸ Others are those who are sown among the thorns. These are those who have heard the word,

¹⁹แล้วความกังวลตามธรรมดาโลก และความลุ่มหลงในทรัพย์สมบัติ และความโลภในสิ่งอื่นๆได้เข้ามาและปกคลุมพระวจนะนั้น จึงไม่เกิดผล

¹⁹ and the cares of this age, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

²⁰ส่วนพืชซึ่งหว่านตกในดินดีนั้น ได้แก่บุคคลที่ได้ยินพระวจนะนั้น และรับไว้ จึงเกิดผลสามสิบเท่าบ้าง หกสิบเท่าบ้าง ร้อยเท่าบ้าง"

²⁰ Those which were sown on the good ground are those who hear the word, and accept it, and bear fruit, some thirty times, some sixty times, and some one hundred times.”

²¹แล้วพระองค์ตรัสแก่เขาว่า "เขาเอาเทียนมาสำหรับตั้งไว้ใต้ถัง ใต้เตียงนอนหรือ และมิใช่สำหรับตั้งไว้บนเชิงเทียนหรือ

²¹He said to them, “Is the lamp brought to be put under a basket literally, a modion, a dry measuring basket containing about a peck (about 9 litres) or under a bed? Isn’t it put on a stand?

²²เพราะว่าไม่มีสิ่งใดที่ซ่อนไว้ซึ่งจะไม่ปรากฏแจ้ง และไม่มีสิ่งใดที่ปิดบังไว้ ซึ่งจะไม่ต้องแพร่งพราย

²² For there is nothing hidden, except that it should be made known; neither was anything made secret, but that it should come to light.

²³ถ้าใครมีหูฟังได้ จงฟังเถิด"

²³ If any man has ears to hear, let him hear.”

²⁴พระองค์ตรัสแก่เขาว่า "จงเอาใจจดจ่อต่อสิ่งที่ท่านฟังให้ดี ท่านจะตวงให้เขาด้วยทะนานอันใด จะตวงให้ท่านด้วยทะนานอันนั้น ทั้งจะเพิ่มเติมให้อีกแก่ผู้ที่ฟังแล้ว

²⁴He said to them, “Take heed what you hear. With whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you, and more will be given to you who hear.

²⁵ด้วยว่าผู้ใดมีอยู่แล้วจะเพิ่มเติมให้ผู้นั้นอีก แต่ผู้ใดไม่มี แม้ว่าซึ่งเขามีอยู่นั้นจะเอาไปเสียจากเขา"

²⁵ For whoever has, to him will more be given, and he who doesn’t have, even that which he has will be taken away from him.”

²⁶พระองค์ตรัสว่า "อาณาจักรของพระเจ้าเปรียบเหมือนชายคนหนึ่งหว่านพืชลงในดิน

²⁶He said, “The Kingdom of God is as if a man should cast seed on the earth,

²⁷แล้วกลางคืนก็นอนหลับและกลางวันก็ตื่นขึ้น ฝ่ายพืชนั้นจะงอกจำเริญขึ้นอย่างไรเขาก็ไม่รู้

²⁷ and should sleep and rise night and day, and the seed should spring up and grow, he doesn’t know how.

²⁸เพราะแผ่นดินเองทำให้พืชงอกจำเริญขึ้นเป็นลำต้นก่อน ภายหลังก็ออกรวง แล้วก็มีเมล็ดข้าวเต็มรวง

²⁸ For the earth bears fruit: first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.

²⁹ครั้นสุกแล้วเขาก็ไปเกี่ยวเก็บทีเดียว เพราะว่าถึงฤดูเกี่ยวแล้ว"

²⁹ But when the fruit is ripe, immediately he puts forth the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

³⁰และพระองค์ตรัสว่า "อาณาจักรของพระเจ้าจะเปรียบเหมือนสิ่งใด หรือจะสำแดงด้วยคำเปรียบอย่างไร

³⁰He said, “How will we liken the Kingdom of God? Or with what parable will we illustrate it?

³¹ก็เปรียบเหมือนเมล็ดพันธุ์ผักกาดเมล็ดหนึ่ง เวลาเพาะลงในดินนั้นก็เล็กกว่าเมล็ดทั้งปวงทั่วทั้งแผ่นดิน

³¹ It’s like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, though it is less than all the seeds that are on the earth,

³²แต่เมื่อเพาะแล้วจึงงอกขึ้นจำเริญใหญ่โตกว่าผักทั้งปวง และแตกกิ่งก้านใหญ่พอให้นกในอากาศมาอาศัยอยู่ในร่มนั้นได้"

³² yet when it is sown, grows up, and becomes greater than all the herbs, and puts out great branches, so that the birds of the sky can lodge under its shadow.”

³³พระองค์ได้ตรัสสั่งสอนพระวจนะให้แก่เขาเป็นคำอุปมาอย่างนั้นเป็นหลายประการ ตามที่เขาจะสามารถฟังได้

³³With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it.

³⁴และนอกจากคำอุปมา พระองค์มิได้ตรัสแก่เขาเลย แต่เมื่อพวกเขาอยู่ตามลำพัง พระองค์จึงทรงอธิบายสิ่งสารพัดนั้นแก่เหล่าสาวก

³⁴Without a parable he didn’t speak to them; but privately to his own disciples he explained everything.

³⁵เย็นวันนั้นพระองค์ได้ตรัสแก่เขาทั้งหลายว่า "ให้พวกเราข้ามไปฝั่งฟากข้างโน้นเถิด"

³⁵On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let’s go over to the other side.”

³⁶เมื่อลาประชาชนแล้ว เขาจึงเชิญพระองค์เสด็จไปในเรือที่พระองค์ประทับอยู่นั้น และมีเรืออื่นเล็กๆหลายลำไปกับพระองค์ด้วย

³⁶Leaving the multitude, they took him with them, even as he was, in the boat. Other small boats were also with him.

³⁷และพายุใหญ่ได้บังเกิดขึ้น และคลื่นก็ซัดเข้าไปในเรือจนเรือเต็มอยู่แล้ว

³⁷A big wind storm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so much that the boat was already filled.

³⁸ฝ่ายพระองค์บรรทมหนุนหมอนหลับอยู่ที่ท้ายเรือ เหล่าสาวกจึงมาปลุกพระองค์ทูลว่า "อาจารย์เจ้าข้า ข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายกำลังจะพินาศอยู่แล้ว ท่านไม่ทรงเป็นห่วงบ้างหรือ"

³⁸He himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion, and they woke him up, and told him, “Teacher, don’t you care that we are dying?”

³⁹พระองค์จึงทรงตื่นขึ้นห้ามลมและตรัสแก่ทะเลว่า "จงสงบเงียบซิ" แล้วลมก็หยุดมีความสงบเงียบทั่วไป

³⁹He awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” The wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

⁴⁰พระองค์จึงตรัสแก่เขาว่า "ทำไมท่านกลัวอย่างนี้ ท่านยังไม่มีความเชื่อหรือ"

⁴⁰He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? How is it that you have no faith?”

⁴¹ฝ่ายเขาก็เกรงกลัวนักหนาและพูดกันและกันว่า "ท่านนี้เป็นผู้ใดหนอ จนชั้นลมและทะเลก็เชื่อฟังท่าน"

⁴¹They were greatly afraid, and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
