¹ต่อมาเมื่อพระเยซูตรัสสั่งสาวกสิบสองคนของพระองค์เสร็จแล้ว พระองค์ได้เสด็จจากที่นั่นไปเพื่อจะสั่งสอนและประกาศในเมืองต่างๆของเขา

¹It happened that when Jesus had finished directing his twelve disciples, he departed from there to teach and preach in their cities.

²ฝ่ายยอห์นเมื่อติดอยู่ในเรือนจำได้ยินถึงกิจการของพระคริสต์ จึงได้ใช้สาวกสองคนของท่านไป

²Now when John heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples

³ทูลถามพระองค์ว่า "ท่านเป็นผู้ที่จะมานั้นหรือ หรือเราจะต้องคอยหาผู้อื่น"

³and said to him, “Are you he who comes, or should we look for another?”

⁴ฝ่ายพระเยซูตรัสตอบพวกเขาว่า "จงไปแจ้งแก่ยอห์นซึ่งท่านได้ยินและเห็น

⁴Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:

⁵คือว่าคนตาบอดก็หายบอด คนง่อยเดินได้ คนโรคเรื้อนหายสะอาด คนหูหนวกได้ยินได้ คนตายแล้วเป็นขึ้นมา และข่าวประเสริฐก็ประกาศแก่คนอนาถา

⁵ the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, Isaiah 35:5 the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them. Isaiah 61:1-4

⁶บุคคลผู้ใดไม่สะดุดเพราะเรา ผู้นั้นเป็นสุข"

⁶ Blessed is he who finds no occasion for stumbling in me.”

⁷ครั้นสาวกเหล่านั้นไปแล้ว พระเยซูเริ่มตรัสกับคนหมู่นั้นถึงยอห์นว่า "ท่านทั้งหลายได้ออกไปในถิ่นทุรกันดารเพื่อดูอะไร ดูต้นอ้อไหวโดยถูกลมพัดหรือ

⁷As these went their way, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

⁸แต่ท่านทั้งหลายออกไปดูอะไร ดูคนนุ่งห่มผ้าเนื้ออ่อนนิ่มหรือ ดูเถิด คนนุ่งห่มผ้าเนื้อนิ่มก็อยู่ในราชวัง

⁸ But what did you go out to see? A man in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in king’s houses.

⁹แต่ท่านทั้งหลายออกไปดูอะไร ดูศาสดาพยากรณ์หรือ แน่ทีเดียว และเราบอกท่านว่า ท่านนั้นเป็นผู้ประเสริฐยิ่งกว่าศาสดาพยากรณ์เสียอีก

⁹ But why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet.

¹⁰คือยอห์นนี่แหละที่ได้เขียนกล่าวถึงว่า `ดูเถิด เราใช้ทูตของเราไปข้างหน้าท่าน ผู้นั้นจะเตรียมทางของท่านไว้ข้างหน้าท่าน'

¹⁰ For this is he, of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’ Malachi 3:1

¹¹เราบอกความจริงแก่ท่านทั้งหลายว่า ในบรรดาคนซึ่งเกิดจากผู้หญิงมานั้น ไม่มีผู้ใดใหญ่กว่ายอห์นผู้ให้รับบัพติศมา แต่ว่าผู้ที่ต่ำต้อยที่สุดในอาณาจักรแห่งสวรรค์ก็ยังใหญ่กว่ายอห์นเสียอีก

¹¹ Most certainly I tell you, among those who are born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptizer; yet he who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.

¹²และตั้งแต่สมัยยอห์นผู้ให้รับบัพติศมาถึงทุกวันนี้ อาณาจักรแห่งสวรรค์ก็เป็นสิ่งที่คนได้แสวงหาด้วยใจร้อนรน และผู้ที่ใจร้อนรนก็เป็นผู้ที่ชิงเอาได้

¹² From the days of John the Baptizer until now, the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. or, plunder it.

¹³เพราะว่าคำของศาสดาพยากรณ์ทั้งหลายและพระราชบัญญัติได้พยากรณ์มาจนถึงยอห์นนี้

¹³ For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

¹⁴ถ้าท่านทั้งหลายจะยอมรับให้เป็น ก็ยอห์นนี้แหละเป็นเอลียาห์ซึ่งจะมานั้น

¹⁴ If you are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, who is to come.

¹⁵ใครมีหูจงฟังเถิด

¹⁵ He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

¹⁶เราจะเปรียบคนยุคนี้เหมือนกับอะไรดี เปรียบเหมือนเด็กนั่งที่กลางตลาดร้องแก่เพื่อน

¹⁶ “But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, who call to their companions

¹⁷กล่าวว่า `พวกฉันได้เป่าปี่ให้พวกเธอ และเธอมิได้เต้นรำ พวกฉันได้พิลาปร่ำไห้แก่พวกเธอ และพวกเธอมิได้ตีอกชกหัว'

¹⁷ and say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you didn’t dance. We mourned for you, and you didn’t lament.’

¹⁸ด้วยว่ายอห์นมาก็ไม่ได้กินหรือดื่ม และเขาว่า `มีผีเข้าสิงอยู่'

¹⁸ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’

¹⁹ฝ่ายบุตรมนุษย์มาทั้งกินและดื่ม เขาก็ว่า `ดูเถิด นี่เป็นคนกินเติบและดื่มน้ำองุ่นมาก เป็นมิตรสหายกับคนเก็บภาษีและคนบาป' แต่พระปัญญาก็ปรากฏว่าชอบธรรมแล้วโดยผลแห่งพระปัญญานั้น"

¹⁹ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her children. NU reads “actions” instead of “children” ”

²⁰แล้วพระองค์ก็ทรงตั้งต้นติเตียนเมืองต่างๆที่พระองค์ได้ทรงกระทำการอิทธิฤทธิ์เป็นส่วนมาก เพราะเขามิได้กลับใจเสียใหม่

²⁰Then he began to denounce the cities in which most of his mighty works had been done, because they didn’t repent.

²¹"วิบัติแก่เจ้า เมืองโคราซิน วิบัติแก่เจ้า เมืองเบธไซอิดา เพราะถ้าการอิทธิฤทธิ์ซึ่งได้กระทำท่ามกลางเจ้าได้กระทำในเมืองไทระและเมืองไซดอน คนในเมืองทั้งสองจะได้นุ่งห่มผ้ากระสอบ นั่งบนขี้เถ้า กลับใจเสียใหม่นานมาแล้ว

²¹ “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

²²แต่เราบอกเจ้าว่า ในวันพิพากษา โทษเมืองไทระและเมืองไซดอนจะเบากว่าโทษของเจ้า

²² But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.

²³และฝ่ายเจ้า เมืองคาเปอรนาอุม ซึ่งถูกยกขึ้นเทียมฟ้าแล้ว เจ้าจะต้องลงไปถึงนรกต่างหาก ด้วยว่าการอิทธิฤทธิ์ซึ่งได้กระทำในท่ามกลางเจ้านั้น ถ้าได้กระทำในเมืองโสโดม เมืองนั้นจะได้ตั้งอยู่จนทุกวันนี้

²³ You, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, you will go down to Hades. or, Hell For if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in you, it would have remained until this day.

²⁴แต่เราบอกเจ้าว่า ในวันพิพากษา โทษเมืองโสโดมจะเบากว่าโทษของเจ้า"

²⁴ But I tell you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom, on the day of judgment, than for you.”

²⁵ขณะนั้นพระเยซูทูลตอบว่า "ข้าแต่พระบิดา ผู้เป็นเจ้าแห่งฟ้าสวรรค์และแผ่นดิน ข้าพระองค์ขอขอบพระคุณพระองค์ ที่พระองค์ได้ทรงปิดบังสิ่งเหล่านี้ไว้จากผู้มีปัญญาและผู้ฉลาด และได้สำแดงให้ผู้น้อยรู้

²⁵At that time, Jesus answered, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants.

²⁶ข้าแต่พระบิดา ที่เป็นอย่างนั้นก็เพราะเป็นที่ชอบพระทัยในสายพระเนตรของพระองค์

²⁶ Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.

²⁷พระบิดาของเราได้ทรงมอบสิ่งสารพัดให้แก่เรา และไม่มีใครรู้จักพระบุตรนอกจากพระบิดา และไม่มีใครรู้จักพระบิดานอกจากพระบุตรและผู้ที่พระบุตรประสงค์จะสำแดงให้รู้

²⁷ All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son, except the Father; neither does anyone know the Father, except the Son, and he to whom the Son desires to reveal him.

²⁸บรรดาผู้ทำงานเหน็ดเหนื่อยและแบกภาระหนัก จงมาหาเรา และเราจะให้ท่านทั้งหลายหายเหนื่อยเป็นสุข

²⁸ “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

²⁹จงเอาแอกของเราแบกไว้ แล้วเรียนจากเรา เพราะว่าเรามีใจอ่อนสุภาพและถ่อมลง และท่านทั้งหลายจะพบที่สงบสุขในใจของตน

²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.

³⁰ด้วยว่าแอกของเราก็แบกง่าย และภาระของเราก็เบา"

³⁰ For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
