¹พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับโมเสส ณ ที่ราบโมอับ ริมแม่น้ำจอร์แดนใกล้เมืองเยรีโคว่า

¹Yahweh spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying,

²"จงบัญชาคนอิสราเอล ให้เขายกเมืองให้คนเลวีได้อาศัยอยู่จากมรดกที่เขาได้รับนั้นบ้าง และยกทุ่งหญ้ารอบๆเมืองนั้นให้คนเลวีด้วย

²“Command the children of Israel that they give to the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and you shall give suburbs for the cities around them to the Levites.

³ให้เมืองนั้นเป็นของเขาเพื่อจะได้อาศัยอยู่ ให้ทุ่งหญ้าเพื่อฝูงสัตว์และทรัพย์สิ่งของและสัตว์ทั้งสิ้นของเขา

³The cities shall they have to dwell in; and their suburbs shall be for their livestock, and for their substance, and for all their animals.

⁴ทุ่งหญ้าของเมืองที่เจ้ายกให้แก่คนเลวีนั้นให้มีเขตจากกำแพงเมืองและห่างออกไปหนึ่งพันศอกโดยรอบ

⁴“The suburbs of the cities, which you shall give to the Levites, shall be from the wall of the city and outward one thousand cubits around it.

⁵และเจ้าจงวัดภายนอกเมืองสองพันศอกเป็นด้านตะวันออก สองพันศอกเป็นด้านใต้ สองพันศอกเป็นด้านตะวันตก สองพันศอกเป็นด้านเหนือ ให้ตัวเมืองอยู่กลาง นี่เป็นทุ่งหญ้าประจำเมืองเหล่านั้น

⁵You shall measure outside of the city for the east side two thousand cubits, and for the south side two thousand cubits, and for the west side two thousand cubits, and for the north side two thousand cubits, the city being in the midst. This shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.

⁶เมืองซึ่งเจ้าจะยกให้แก่คนเลวี คือ เมืองลี้ภัยหกเมือง ซึ่งเจ้าจะอนุญาตให้คนฆ่าคนหนีไปอยู่ และเจ้าจงเพิ่มให้เขาอีกสี่สิบสองเมือง

⁶“The cities which you shall give to the Levites, they shall be the six cities of refuge, which you shall give for the manslayer to flee to: and besides them you shall give forty-two cities.

⁷เมืองทั้งหมดที่เจ้ายกให้คนเลวีเป็นสี่สิบแปดหัวเมือง มีทุ่งหญ้าตามเมืองด้วย

⁷All the cities which you shall give to the Levites shall be forty-eight cities together with their suburbs.

⁸และหัวเมืองที่เจ้าจะให้เขาจากกรรมสิทธิ์ของคนอิสราเอลนั้น จากตระกูลใหญ่เจ้าก็เอาเมืองมากหน่อย จากตระกูลย่อมเจ้าก็เอาเมืองน้อยหน่อย ทุกตระกูลตามส่วนของมรดกซึ่งเขาได้รับ ให้ยกให้แก่คนเลวี"

⁸Concerning the cities which you shall give of the possession of the children of Israel, from the many you shall take many; and from the few you shall take few: everyone according to his inheritance which he inherits shall give of his cities to the Levites.”

⁹พระเยโฮวาห์ตรัสกับโมเสสว่า

⁹Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

¹⁰"จงกล่าวแก่คนอิสราเอลว่า เมื่อเจ้าทั้งหลายข้ามแม่น้ำจอร์แดน เข้าในแผ่นดินคานาอัน

¹⁰“Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, ‘When you pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan,

¹¹เจ้าจงเลือกเมืองให้เป็นเมืองลี้ภัยสำหรับเจ้า เพื่อคนที่ได้ฆ่าคนด้วยมิได้เจตนาจะหลบหนีไปอยู่ที่นั่นก็ได้

¹¹then you shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the manslayer who kills any person unwittingly may flee there.

¹²ให้เมืองเหล่านั้นเป็นเมืองลี้ภัยจากผู้ที่อาฆาต เพื่อมิให้คนฆ่าคนจะต้องตายก่อนที่เขาจะยืนต่อหน้าชุมนุมชนเพื่อรับการพิพากษา

¹²The cities shall be to you for refuge from the avenger, that the manslayer not die, until he stands before the congregation for judgment.

¹³และเมืองที่เจ้ายกไว้นั้นให้เป็นเมืองลี้ภัยหกเมือง

¹³The cities which you shall give shall be for you six cities of refuge.

¹⁴เจ้าจงให้ทางฟากแม่น้ำจอร์แดนข้างนี้สามเมือง และอีกสามเมืองในแผ่นดินคานาอัน ให้เป็นเมืองลี้ภัย

¹⁴You shall give three cities beyond the Jordan, and you shall give three cities in the land of Canaan; they shall be cities of refuge.

¹⁵ทั้งหกเมืองนี้ให้เป็นเมืองลี้ภัยของคนอิสราเอลและสำหรับคนต่างด้าว และสำหรับคนที่อาศัยอยู่ท่ามกลางเขา เพื่อคนหนึ่งคนใดที่ได้ฆ่าเขาโดยมิได้เจตนาจะได้หลบหนีไปที่นั่น

¹⁵For the children of Israel, and for the stranger and for the foreigner living among them, shall these six cities be for refuge; that everyone who kills any person unwittingly may flee there.

¹⁶ถ้าผู้ใดตีเขาด้วยเครื่องมือเหล็กจนคนนั้นถึงตาย ผู้นั้นเป็นคนฆ่าคน ให้ประหารชีวิตคนฆ่าคนนั้นเสีย

¹⁶“‘But if he struck him with an instrument of iron, so that he died, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

¹⁷ผู้ใดทุบเขาให้ล้มลงด้วยก้อนหินในมือขนาดฆ่าคนได้ และเขาถึงตาย ผู้นั้นเป็นคนฆ่าคน ให้ประหารชีวิตคนฆ่าคนนั้นเสีย

¹⁷If he struck him with a stone in the hand, by which a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

¹⁸หรือผู้ใดใช้อาวุธไม้ที่อยู่ในมือขนาดฆ่าคนได้ตีเขาล้มลงและคนนั้นถึงตาย ผู้นั้นเป็นคนฆ่าคน ให้ประหารชีวิตคนฆ่าคนนั้นเสีย

¹⁸Or if he struck him with a weapon of wood in the hand, by which a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.

¹⁹ให้ผู้อาฆาตโลหิตเองเป็นผู้ประหารชีวิตคนฆ่าคนนั้น ถ้าผู้อาฆาตพบเขาเมื่อใดก็ให้ประหารชีวิตเสีย

¹⁹The avenger of blood shall himself put the murderer to death: when he meets him, he shall put him to death.

²⁰ถ้าผู้ใดแทงเขาด้วยความเกลียดชัง หรือซุ่มคอยขว้างเขาจนเขาตาย

²⁰If he thrust him of hatred, or hurled at him, lying in wait, so that he died,

²¹หรือเพราะเป็นศัตรูกันชกเขาล้มลง จนเขาตาย ให้ประหารชีวิตผู้ที่ทำให้เขาตายนั้นเสีย เขาเป็นคนฆ่าคน เมื่อผู้อาฆาตโลหิตพบเขาเมื่อใด ก็ให้ประหารชีวิตเขาเสีย

²¹or in enmity struck him with his hand, so that he died; he who struck him shall surely be put to death; he is a murderer: the avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death, when he meets him.

²²ถ้าผู้ใดโดยมิได้เป็นศัตรูกันแทงเขาทันที หรือเอาอะไรขว้างเขาโดยมิได้คอยซุ่มดักอยู่

²²“‘But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or hurled on him anything without lying in wait,

²³หรือใช้ก้อนหินขนาดฆ่าคนได้ขว้างถูกเขาเข้าโดยมิได้เห็น และเขาถึงตาย และเขามิได้เป็นศัตรู และมิได้มุ่งทำร้ายเขา

²³or with any stone, by which a man may die, not seeing him, and cast it on him, so that he died, and he was not his enemy, neither sought his harm;

²⁴ก็ให้ชุมนุมชนตัดสินความระหว่างผู้ฆ่าและผู้อาฆาตโลหิตตามคำตัดสินนี้

²⁴then the congregation shall judge between the striker and the avenger of blood according to these ordinances;

²⁵ให้ชุมนุมชนช่วยผู้ฆ่าให้พ้นจากมือผู้อาฆาตโลหิต ให้ชุมนุมชนพาตัวเขากลับไปถึงเมืองลี้ภัยซึ่งเขาได้หนีไปอยู่นั้น ให้เขาอยู่ที่นั่นจนกว่ามหาปุโรหิตผู้ได้ถูกเจิมไว้ด้วยน้ำมันบริสุทธิ์ถึงแก่ความตาย

²⁵and the congregation shall deliver the manslayer out of the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to his city of refuge, where he was fled: and he shall dwell therein until the death of the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.

²⁶ถ้าผู้ฆ่าคนออกไปพ้นเขตเมืองลี้ภัย ซึ่งเขาหนีเข้าไปอยู่ในเวลาใด

²⁶“‘But if the manslayer shall at any time go beyond the border of his city of refuge, where he flees,

²⁷และผู้อาฆาตโลหิตพบเขานอกเขตเมืองลี้ภัย และผู้อาฆาตโลหิตได้ฆ่าผู้ฆ่าคนนั้นเสีย ผู้อาฆาตโลหิตจะไม่มีความผิดเนื่องด้วยโลหิตตกของเขา

²⁷and the avenger of blood find him outside of the border of his city of refuge, and the avenger of blood kill the manslayer; he shall not be guilty of blood,

²⁸เพราะว่าชายผู้นั้นต้องอยู่ในเขตเมืองลี้ภัยจนมหาปุโรหิตถึงแก่ความตาย ภายหลังเมื่อมหาปุโรหิตถึงแก่ความตายแล้ว ผู้ฆ่าคนนั้นจะกลับไปยังแผ่นดินที่เขาถือกรรมสิทธิ์อยู่ก็ได้

²⁸because he should have remained in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the manslayer shall return into the land of his possession.

²⁹สิ่งเหล่านี้ควรเป็นกฎเกณฑ์แห่งคำตัดสินของเจ้าตลอดชั่วอายุของเจ้าในที่อาศัยทั้งปวงของเจ้า

²⁹“‘These things shall be for a statute and ordinance to you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

³⁰ผู้ใดฆ่าเขาตาย ให้ประหารชีวิตผู้ฆ่าคนนั้นเสียตามปากของพยาน แต่อย่าประหารชีวิตผู้ใดด้วยมีพยานปากเดียว

³⁰“‘Whoever kills any person, the murderer shall be slain at the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person that he die.

³¹ยิ่งกว่านั้นอีก เจ้าอย่ารับค่าไถ่ชีวิตของผู้ฆ่าคนผู้มีความผิดถึงตายนั้น แต่เขาต้องตายแน่

³¹“‘Moreover you shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death; but he shall surely be put to death.

³²และเจ้าอย่ารับค่าไถ่คนที่หลบหนีไปยังเมืองลี้ภัยเพื่อให้กลับมาอยู่ในแผ่นดินของเขาก่อนที่มหาปุโรหิตสิ้นชีวิต

³²“‘You shall take no ransom for him who is fled to his city of refuge, that he may come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.

³³ดังนั้นเจ้าจึงไม่กระทำให้แผ่นดินที่เจ้าทั้งหลายอาศัยอยู่มีมลทิน เพราะว่าโลหิตทำให้แผ่นดินเป็นมลทิน และไม่มีสิ่งใดที่จะชำระแผ่นดินให้หมดมลทินที่เกิดขึ้นเพราะโลหิตตกในแผ่นดินนั้นได้ นอกจากโลหิตของผู้ที่ทำให้โลหิตตก

³³“‘So you shall not pollute the land in which you are: for blood, it pollutes the land; and no expiation can be made for the land for the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him who shed it.

³⁴เจ้าอย่ากระทำให้เกิดมลทินในแผ่นดินที่เจ้าอาศัยอยู่ ที่เราอยู่ท่ามกลาง เพราะว่าเราคือพระเยโฮวาห์อยู่ท่ามกลางคนอิสราเอล"

³⁴You shall not defile the land which you inhabit, in the midst of which I dwell: for I, Yahweh, dwell in the midst of the children of Israel.’”
