1İsa bu sözleri söyledikten sonra öğrencileriyle birlikte dışarı çıkıp Kidron vadisinin ötesine geçti. Orada bir bahçe vardı. İsa'yla öğrencileri bu bahçeye girdiler.
1When Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples over the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, into which he and his disciples entered.
2O'nu ele veren Yahuda da burayı biliyordu. Çünkü İsa, öğrencileriyle orada sık sık buluşurdu.
2Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus often met there with his disciples.
3Böylece Yahuda yanına bir bölük askerle başkâhinlerin ve Ferisilerin gönderdiği görevlileri alarak oraya geldi. Onların ellerinde fenerler, meşaleler ve silahlar vardı.
3Judas then, having taken a detachment of soldiers and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.
4İsa, başına geleceklerin hepsini biliyordu. Öne çıkıp onlara, «Kimi arıyorsunuz?» diye sordu.
4Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that were happening to him, went forth, and said to them, “Who are you looking for?”
5«Nasıralı İsa'yı» diye karşılık verdiler. İsa onlara, «Ben'im» dedi. O'nu ele veren Yahuda da onlarla birlikte duruyordu.
5They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.” Judas also, who betrayed him, was standing with them.
6İsa, «Ben'im» deyince gerileyip yere düştüler.
6When therefore he said to them, “I am he,” they went backward, and fell to the ground.
7Bunun üzerine İsa onlara yine, «Kimi arıyorsunuz?» diye sordu. «Nasıralı İsa'yı» dediler.
7Again therefore he asked them, “Who are you looking for?” They said, “Jesus of Nazareth.”
8İsa, «Size söyledim, ben'im» dedi. «Eğer beni arıyorsanız,bunları bırakın gitsinler.»
8Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. If therefore you seek me, let these go their way,”
9Kendisinin daha önce söylediği, «Senin bana verdiklerinden hiçbirini yitirmedim» şeklindeki sözü yerine gelsin diye böyle konuştu.
9that the word might be fulfilled which he spoke, “Of those whom you have given me, I have lost none.” John 6:39
10Simun Petrus yanında taşıdığı kılıcı çekti, başkâhinin Malkus adındaki kölesine vurup sağ kulağını kopardı.
10Simon Peter therefore, having a sword, drew it, and struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
11İsa Petrus'a, «Kılıcını kınına koy! Baba'nın bana verdiği kâseden içmeyeyim mi?» dedi.
11Jesus therefore said to Peter, “Put the sword into its sheath. The cup which the Father has given me, shall I not surely drink it?”
12Bunun üzerine komutanla buyruğundaki asker bölüğü ve Yahudi görevliler İsa'yı tutup bağladılar.
12So the detachment, the commanding officer, and the officers of the Jews, seized Jesus and bound him,
13O'nu önce, o yıl başkâhin olan Kayafa'nın kayınbabası Hanna'ya götürdüler.
13and led him to Annas first, for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
14Halkın uğruna bir tek adamın ölmesinin daha uygun olacağını Yahudilere telkin eden Kayafa idi.
14Now it was Caiaphas who advised the Jews that it was expedient that one man should perish for the people.
15Simun Petrus'la başka bir öğrenci İsa'nın ardından gidiyorlardı. O öğrenci başkâhinin tanıdığı olduğu için İsa'yla birlikte başkâhinin avlusuna girdi.
15Simon Peter followed Jesus, as did another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and entered in with Jesus into the court of the high priest;
16Petrus ise dışarıda, kapının yanında duruyordu. Başkâhinin tanıdığı öğrenci dışarı çıkıp kapıcı kızla konuştu ve Petrus'u içeri getirdi.
16but Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to her who kept the door, and brought in Peter.
17Kapıcı kız Petrus'a, «Sen de bu adamın öğrencilerinden değil misin?» diye sordu. Petrus, «Hayır, değilim» dedi.
17Then the maid who kept the door said to Peter, “Are you also one of this man’s disciples?” He said, “I am not.”
18Hava soğuk olduğu için köleler ve nöbetçiler yaktıkları kömür ateşinin çevresinde durmuş ısınıyorlardı. Petrus da onlarla birlikte durmuş ısınıyordu.
18Now the servants and the officers were standing there, having made a fire of coals, for it was cold. They were warming themselves. Peter was with them, standing and warming himself.
19Başkâhin İsa'ya, öğrencileri ve öğretisiyle ilgili sorular sordu.
19The high priest therefore asked Jesus about his disciples, and about his teaching.
20İsa ona şöyle cevap verdi: «Ben söylediklerimi dünyaya açıkça söyledim. Her zaman bütün Yahudilerin toplandıkları havralarda ve tapınakta ders verdim. Gizli hiçbir şey söylemedim.
20Jesus answered him, “I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where the Jews always meet. I said nothing in secret.
21Beni neden sorguya çekiyorsun? Konuştuklarımı işitenlerden sor. Onlar ne söylediğimi biliyorlar.»
21 Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me what I said to them. Behold, these know the things which I said.”
22İsa bunları söyleyince, yanında duran görevlilerden biri, «Başkâhine nasıl böyle karşılık verirsin?» diyerek O'na bir tokat attı.
22When he had said this, one of the officers standing by slapped Jesus with his hand, saying, “Do you answer the high priest like that?”
23İsa ona, «Eğer yanlış bir şey söyledimse, yanlışımı göster!» diye cevap verdi. «Ama söylediklerim doğruysa, niçin bana vuruyorsun?»
23Jesus answered him, “If I have spoken evil, testify of the evil; but if well, why do you beat me?”
24Bunun üzerine Hanna O'nu bağlı olarak başkâhin Kayafa'ya gönderdi.
24Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas, the high priest.
25Simun Petrus hâlâ ateşin yanında durmuş ısınıyordu. O'na, «Sen de O'nun öğrencilerinden değil misin?» dediler. «Hayır, değilim» diyerek inkâr etti.
25Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore to him, “You aren’t also one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it, and said, “I am not.”
26Başkâhinin kölelerinden biri, Petrus'un, kulağını kestiği adamın akrabasıydı. Bu köle Petrus'a, «Bahçede, seni O'nunlabirlikte görmedim mi?» diye sordu.
26One of the servants of the high priest, being a relative of him whose ear Peter had cut off, said, “Didn’t I see you in the garden with him?”
27Petrus yine inkâr etti ve tam o anda horoz öttü.
27Peter therefore denied it again, and immediately the rooster crowed.
28Sabah erkenden Yahudiler İsa'yı Kayafa'nın yanından alarak vali konağına götürdüler. Dinsel kuralları bozmamak ve Fısıh yemeğini yiyebilmek için kendileri vali konağına girmediler.
28They led Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium. It was early, and they themselves didn’t enter into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.
29Bunun üzerine Pilatus dışarı çıkıp yanlarına geldi. «Bu adamı neyle suçluyorsunuz?» diye sordu.
29Pilate therefore went out to them, and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?”
30Ona şu karşılığı verdiler: «Bu adam kötülük eden biri olmasaydı, O'nu sana getirmezdik.»
30They answered him, “If this man weren’t an evildoer, we wouldn’t have delivered him up to you.”
31Pilatus onlara, «O'nu siz alın, kendi yasanıza göre yargılayın» dedi. Yahudiler, «Bizim hiç kimseyi ölüm cezasına çarptırmaya yetkimiz yok» dediler.
31Pilate therefore said to them, “Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law.” Therefore the Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death,”
32Bu, İsa'nın nasıl öleceğini belirtmek için söylediği sözler yerine gelsin diye oldu.
32that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying by what kind of death he should die.
33Pilatus yine vali konağına girdi. İsa'yı çağırıp O'na, «Sen Yahudilerin Kralı mısın?» diye sordu.
33Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, called Jesus, and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?”
34İsa şöyle karşılık verdi: «Bunu kendiliğinden mi söylüyorsun, yoksa benim hakkımda başkaları mı sana söyledi?»
34Jesus answered him, “Do you say this by yourself, or did others tell you about me?”
35Pilatus, «Ben Yahudi miyim?» dedi. «Seni bana kendi ulusun ve başkâhinlerin teslim ettiler. Ne yaptın?»
35Pilate answered, “I’m not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered you to me. What have you done?”
36İsa, «Benim krallığım bu dünyadan değildir» diye karşılık verdi. «Krallığım bu dünyadan olsaydı, yandaşlarım, Yahudilere teslim edilmemem için savaşırlardı. Oysa benim krallığım buradan değildir.»
36Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I wouldn’t be delivered to the Jews. But now my Kingdom is not from here.”
37Pilatus, «Demek sen bir kralsın, öyle mi?» dedi. İsa, «Söylediğin gibi, ben kralım» karşılığını verdi. «Ben gerçeğe tanıklık etmek için doğdum, bunun için dünyaya geldim. Gerçekten yana olan herkes benim sesimi işitir.»
37Pilate therefore said to him, “Are you a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this reason I have been born, and for this reason I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”
38Pilatus O'na, «Gerçek nedir?» diye sordu. Bunu söyledikten sonra Pilatus yine dışarıya, Yahudilerin yanına çıktı. Onlara, «Ben O'nda hiçbir suç görmüyorum» dedi.
38Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” When he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, “I find no basis for a charge against him.
39«Ama sizin bir geleneğiniz var, her Fısıh bayramında sizin için birini salıveriyorum. Yahudilerin Kralını sizin için salıvermemi ister misiniz?»
39But you have a custom, that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Therefore do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”
40Onlar yine, «Bu adamı değil, Barabas'ı isteriz!» diye bağrıştılar. Oysa Barabas bir hayduttu.
40Then they all shouted again, saying, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.
