1Ompi' -ku hawe'ea! Neo' -koi wori' to doko' jadi' guru agama. Apa' ta'inca moto ompi', motomo-pi mpai' pomparesa' -na Alata'ala hi kita' to jadi' guru ngkai pomparesa' -na hi tau ntani' -na.
1Be not many [of you] teachers, my brethren, knowing that we shall receive heavier judgment.
2Kita' omea pontu-na hala' mpo'ingku. Ane rapa' -na ria tauna to uma hala' mpo'ingku hi pololita-ra, hira' toe-mi tauna to moroli'. Ma'ala-ra mpokuasai hawe'ea kahinaa nono-ra.
2For in many things we all stumble. If any stumbleth not in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also.
3Anu to kedi' ma'ala mpokuasai to bohe. Biasa-na tasamai' jara' bona natuku' konoa-ta. Hante sama' to kedi' ma'ala tahawai' jara' to bohe.
3Now if we put the horses' bridles into their mouths that they may obey us, we turn about their whole body also.
4Wae wo'o kapal hi tahi': nau' hewa apa-mi kabohe-na pai' nawui ngolu' to bohe, kapal toe rapopomako' hiapa konoa pangkeni-na hante kaju to kedi' -wadi to rahanga' poguli'.
4Behold, the ships also, though they are so great and are driven by rough winds, are yet turned about by a very small rudder, whither the impulse of the steersman willeth.
5Wae wo'o hante jila' manusia' -e. Nau' kedi' lia-wadi jila' -ta, aga uma mowo kabohe pepakeni-na. Ngkai apu to kedi' -wadi, ponulu to mowela' bisa mampu.
5So the tongue also is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how much wood is kindled by how small a fire!
6Wae wo'o hante lolita to tapohowa' hante jila' -ta. Lolita-ta toe hibalia kada'a-na hante apu. Hi rala woto-ta, jila' -ta toe-mi to mpopehuwu wori' nyala kada'aa-na, meliu ngkai hawe'ea bagia woto-ta to ntani' -na. Lolita to tapohowa' hante jila' -ta hewa apu to ngkai naraka, to mpakada'a hobo' katuwu' -ta.
6And the tongue is a fire: the world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of nature, and is set on fire by hell.
7Butu nyala binata to me'ila, danci, binata to menyolo pai' uru hi rala ue, ma'ala rapomou', pai' ria-mi tauna to mpomou' -ra.
7For every kind of beasts and birds, of creeping things and things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed by mankind.
8Aga uma ria tauna to ma'ala mpomou' jila' manusia'! Jila' manusia' dada'a lia-i, pai' uma-i ma'ala hawaia'. Lolita to tapohowa' hante jila' -ta hewa rasu to mepatehi!
8But the tongue can no man tame; [it is] a restless evil, [it is] full of deadly poison.
9Lolita-ta ma'ala tapake' mpo'une' Pue' Ala Tuama-ta. Pai' ma'ala wo'o tapake' mpotipo' doo-ta to napajadi' Pue' Ala ntuku' lence-na.
9Therewith bless we the Lord and Father; and therewith curse we men, who are made after the likeness of God:
10Ngkai wiwi to hameha' lau-wadi mehuwu lolita pe'une' pai' lolita petipo'. Ompi' -ku hawe'ea! Kakoo-kono-na ke neo' -hawo hewa toe. Uma-hawo natao ane jila' -ta tapake' mpohowa' to lompe' pai' mpohowa' to dada'a wo'o.
10out of the same mouth cometh forth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
11Ha ria wo'o-hawo ue tuwu' to mpopehupa' ue to mononto pai' ue to mopai' wo'o?
11Doth the fountain send forth from the same opening sweet [water] and bitter?
12Kaju ara uma-i mowua' zaitun. Pai' kaju anggur, uma-i mowua' ara. Buwu to mopoi' uma-i mpopehuwu ue to mononto.
12Can a fig tree, my brethren, yield olives, or a vine figs? Neither [can] salt water yield sweet.
13Ane ria hi laintongo' -ta tauna to lompe' pekiri-na pai' monoto nono-na, kana napopehuwu kanotoa nono-na toe hante po'ingku-na to lompe' pai' hante kehi-na to mehuwu ngkai kadingki' nono-na, hewa to natao hi tauna to monoto nono-ra.
13Who is wise and understanding among you? let him show by his good life his works in meekness of wisdom.
14Tapi' ane ria hi rala nono-ta to mohingi' hi doo-ta pai' doko' mpopeliu woto-ta moto, neo' tapomolangko nono-ta, pai' neo' ta'uli' monoto mpu'u-mi-tana nono-ta. Apa' kehi-ta toe mosisala hante tudui' to makono.
14But if ye have bitter jealousy and faction in your heart, glory not and lie not against the truth.
15Kanotoa nono to hewa toe, bela-hana to ngkai Pue'. Tetu ngkai dunia', ngkai kahinaa nono-ta, pai' ngkai seta!
15This wisdom is not [a wisdom] that cometh down from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
16Apa' ane ria tauna to mohingi' pai' -ra mpopeliu woto-ra moto, bate ria wo'o potudaa' pai' butu nyala kehi to dada'a.
16For where jealousy and faction are, there is confusion and every vile deed.
17Aga ane tauna to mporata mpu'u kanotoa nono ngkai Alata'ala, hewa toi po'ingku-ra: lomo' -lomo' -na moroli' nono-ra. Doko' tuwu' hintuwu' -ra hante doo, mo'olu nono-ra pai' -ra mpotuku' konoa doo. Jau-ra mpotulungi tauna to mpe'ahii', pai' mpobabehi kehi to lompe'. Uma-ra mopahamalia pai' uma-ra turu mpomahapi.
17But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without variance, without hypocrisy.
18Tauna to mpokono kahintuwuaa' pai' mpali' kahintuwuaa', po'ingku-ra bate mpotuku' konoa Alata'ala.
18And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for them that make peace.
