¹Vả, tôi muốn anh em biết dường nào tôi hết sức chiến tranh cho anh em, cho những người ở Lao-đi-xê, và cho những kẻ không thấy mặt tôi về phần xác,

¹For I wish you to know how great a conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and as many as have not seen my face in the flesh,

²hầu cho lòng những kẻ ấy được yên ủi, và lấy sự yêu thương mà liên hiệp, đặng có nhiều sự thông biết đầy dẫy chắc chắn, đến nỗi có thể hiểu sự mầu nhiệm của Ðức Chúa Trời, tức là Ðấng Christ,

²that their hearts may be comforted, being united in love, and to all riches of the full assurance of the understanding, to the full knowledge of the secret of the God and Father, and of the Christ,

³mà trong Ngài đã giấu kín mọi sự quí báu về khôn ngoan thông sáng.

³in whom are all the treasures of the wisdom and the knowledge hid,

⁴Tôi nói như vậy, hầu cho chẳng ai lấy lời dỗ dành mà lừa dối anh em.

⁴and this I say, that no one may beguile you in enticing words,

⁵Vì dẫu thân tôi xa cách, nhưng tâm thần tôi vẫn ở cùng anh em, thấy trong anh em có thứ tự hẳn hoi và đức tin vững vàng đến Ðấng Christ, thì tôi mừng rỡ lắm.

⁵for if even in the flesh I am absent — yet in the spirit I am with you, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in regard to Christ;

⁶Anh em đã nhận Ðức Chúa Jêsus Christ thể nào, thì hãy bước đi trong Ngài thể ấy;

⁶as, then, ye did receive Christ Jesus the Lord, in him walk ye,

⁷hãy châm rễ và lập nền trong Ngài, lấy đức tin làm cho bền vững, tùy theo anh em đã được dạy dỗ, và hãy dư dật trong sự cảm tạ.

⁷being rooted and built up in him, and confirmed in the faith, as ye were taught — abounding in it in thanksgiving.

⁸Hãy giữ chừng, kẻo có ai lấy triết học và lời hư không, theo lời truyền khẩu của loài người, sơ học của thế gian, không theo Ðấng Christ, mà bắt anh em phục chăng.

⁸See that no one shall be carrying you away as spoil through the philosophy and vain deceit, according to the deliverance of men, according to the rudiments of the world, and not according to Christ,

⁹Vì sự đầy dẫy của bổn tánh Ðức Chúa Trời thảy đều ở trong Ðấng ấy như có hình.

⁹because in him doth tabernacle all the fulness of the Godhead bodily,

¹⁰Anh em lại nhờ Ngài mà có được đầy dẫy mọi sự, vì Ngài là đầu của mọi quyền cai trị và mọi thế lực.

¹⁰and ye are in him made full, who is the head of all principality and authority,

¹¹Anh em cũng chịu cắt bì trong Ngài, không phải phép cắt bì bởi tay người ta làm ra, nhưng là phép cắt bì của Ðấng Christ, là lột bỏ tánh xác thịt của chúng ta.

¹¹in whom also ye were circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh in the circumcision of the Christ,

¹²Anh em đã bởi phép báp-tem được chôn với Ngài, thì cũng được sống lại với Ngài bởi đức tin trong quyền phép Ðức Chúa Trời, là Ðấng đã khiến Ngài từ kẻ chết sống lại.

¹²being buried with him in the baptism, in which also ye rose with [him] through the faith of the working of God, who did raise him out of the dead.

¹³Khi anh em đã chết bởi tội lỗi mình và sự xác thịt mình không chịu cắt bì, thì Ðức Chúa Trời đã khiến anh em sống lại với Ðấng Christ, vì đã tha thứ hết mọi tội chúng ta:

¹³And you — being dead in the trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh — He made alive together with him, having forgiven you all the trespasses,

¹⁴Ngài đã xóa tờ khế lập nghịch cùng chúng ta, các điều khoản trái với chúng ta nữa, cùng phá hủy tờ khế đó mà đóng đinh trên cây thập tự;

¹⁴having blotted out the handwriting in the ordinances that is against us, that was contrary to us, and he hath taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross;

¹⁵Ngài đã truất bỏ các quyền cai trị cùng các thế lực, dùng thập tự giá chiến thắng chúng nó, và nộp ra tỏ tường giữa thiên hạ.

¹⁵having stripped the principalities and the authorities, he made a shew of them openly — having triumphed over them in it.

¹⁶Vì vậy, chớ có ai đoán xét anh em về của ăn uống, hoặc ngày lễ, hoặc ngày mặt trăng mới, hoặc ngày Sa-bát,

¹⁶Let no one, then, judge you in eating or in drinking, or in respect of a feast, or of a new moon, or of sabbaths,

¹⁷ấy đều chỉ là bóng của các việc sẽ tới, còn hình thì ở trong Ðấng Christ.

¹⁷which are a shadow of the coming things, and the body [is] of the Christ;

¹⁸Chớ để cho những kẻ kia cướp lấy phần thưởng chạy thi, là kẻ giả đò khiêm nhượng mà muốn thờ lạy các thiên sứ. Họ theo những sự mình xem thấy, và bởi tính xác thịt nổi lòng kiêu ngạo vô ích,

¹⁸let no one beguile you of your prize, delighting in humble-mindedness and [in] worship of the messengers, intruding into the things he hath not seen, being vainly puffed up by the mind of his flesh,

¹⁹không liên lạc với đầu, là nhờ đầu đó mà cả thân thể xếp đặt kết hiệp bởi các lắt léo, và được sự sanh trưởng từ Ðức Chúa Trời đến.

¹⁹and not holding the head, from which all the body — through the joints and bands gathering supply, and being knit together — may increase with the increase of God.

²⁰Ví bằng anh em chết với Ðấng Christ về sự sơ học của thế gian, thì làm sao lại để cho những thể lệ nầy ép buột mình, như anh em còn sống trong thế gian:

²⁰If, then, ye did die with the Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances?

²¹Chớ lấy, chớ nếm, chớ rờ?

²¹— thou mayest not touch, nor taste, nor handle —

²²Cả sự đó hễ dùng đến thì hư nát, theo qui tắc và đạo lý loài người,

²²which are all for destruction with the using, after the commands and teachings of men,

²³dầu bề ngoài có vẻ khôn ngoan, là bởi thờ lạy theo ý riêng, cách khiêm nhượng và khắc khổ thân thể mình; nhưng không ích gì để chống cự lòng dục của xác thịt.

²³which are, indeed, having a matter of wisdom in will-worship, and humble-mindedness, and neglecting of body — not in any honour, unto a satisfying of the flesh.
