1Ngày thứ ba, bà Ê-xơ-tê mặc đồ triều-phục, và ra chầu đứng tại nội viện, đối trước cung điện vua. Vua đương ngự trên ngôi tại trong cung điện trước cửa đền.
1And it cometh to pass on the third day, that Esther putteth on royalty, and standeth in the inner-court of the house of the king over-against the house of the king, and the king is sitting on his royal throne, in the royal-house, over-against the opening of the house,
2Vừa khi vua thấy hoàng hậu Ê-xơ-tê đứng chầu nơi nội viện, thì bà được ơn trước mặt vua; vua giơ ra cho bà Ê-xơ-tê cây phủ việt vàng ở nơi tay mình. Bà Ê-xơ-tê lại gần và rờ cây phủ việt.
2and it cometh to pass, at the king`s seeing Esther the queen standing in the court, she hath received grace in his eyes, and the king holdeth out to Esther the golden sceptre that [is] in his hand, and Esther draweth near, and toucheth the top of the sceptre.
3Vua nói với bà rằng: Hỡi hoàng hậu Ê-xơ-tê, ngươi muốn chi? Cầu xin điều gì? Dầu xin đến phân nửa nước, cũng sẽ ban cho ngươi.
3And the king saith to her, `What — to thee Esther, O queen? and what thy request? unto the half of the kingdom — and it is given to thee.`
4Ê-xơ-tê nói: Nếu nhiệm ý vua, xin vua và Ha-man ngày nay hãy đến dự tiệc yến mà tôi đã dọn cho vua.
4And Esther saith, `If unto the king [it be] good, the king doth come in, and Haman, to-day, unto the banquet that I have made for him;`
5Vua bèn bảo rằng: Hãy kíp vời Ha-man đến, đặng làm y như hoàng hậu đã nói. Ðoạn, vua và Ha-man đi đến dự tiệc yến của bà Ê-xơ-tê đã dọn.
5and the king saith, `Haste ye Haman — to do the word of Esther;` and the king cometh in, and Haman, unto the banquet that Esther hath made.
6Trong lúc dự tiệc rượu, vua hỏi bà Ê-xơ-tê rằng: Nàng xin điều gì? tất ta sẽ nhậm cho. Nàng cầu khẩn việc gì? Dầu đến phân nửa nước, cũng sẽ ban cho.
6And the king saith to Esther, during the banquet of wine, `What [is] thy petition? and it is given to thee; and what thy request? unto the half of the kingdom — and it is done.`
7Bà Ê-xơ-tê đáp rằng: Nầy điều tôi cầu xin và sự tôi ước ao:
7And Esther answereth and saith, `My petition and my request [is]:
8Nếu tôi được ơn trước mặt vua, nếu vua lấy làm thiện mà nhậm lời tôi cầu xin và làm điều tôi ao ước, xin vua và Ha-man hãy đến dự tiệc yến mà tôi sẽ dọn, rồi ngày mai tôi sẽ làm theo lời vua dạy biểu.
8if I have found grace in the eyes of the king, and if unto the king [it be] good, to give my petition, and to perform my request, the king doth come, and Haman, unto the banquet that I make for them, and to-morrow I do according to the word of the king.`
9Trong ngày đó, Ha-man đi ra vui vẻ và lòng hớn hở. Nhưng khi Ha-man thấy Mạc-đô-chê ở nơi cửa vua không đứng dậy, cũng không chuyển động vì mình, bèn đầy dẫy lòng giận dữ Mạc-đô-chê.
9And Haman goeth forth on that day rejoicing and glad in heart, and at Haman`s seeing Mordecai in the gate of the king, and he hath not risen nor moved for him, then is Haman full of fury against Mordecai.
10Dẫu vậy, Ha-man nín giận lại, trở về nhà mình, sai người gọi đến các bạn hữu và Xê-rết là vợ mình.
10And Haman forceth himself, and cometh in unto his house, and sendeth, and bringeth in his friends, and Zeresh his wife,
11Ha-man thuật lại cho chúng sự giàu có sang trọng mình. số đông con cái mình, và mọi sự vua làm cho mình được sang cả, thể nào vua cất mình cao hơn các quan trưởng và thần bộc của vua.
11and Haman recounteth to them the glory of his wealth, and the abundance of his sons, and all that with which the king made him great, and with which he lifted him up above the heads and servants of the king.
12Ha-man cũng nói: Trừ ra một mình ta, hoàng hậu Ê-xơ-tê chẳng vời ai cùng vua đến dự tiệc yến của bà đã dọn; và ngày mai ta lại được mời dự nơi nhà người với vua.
12And Haman saith, `Yea, Esther the queen brought none in with the king, unto the feast that she made, except myself, and also for to-morrow I am called to her, with the king,
13Song mọi điều đó chẳng ích gì cho ta cả hễ lâu chừng nào ta thấy Mạc-đô-chê, người Giu-đa, ngồi tại cửa vua.
13and all this is not profitable to me, during all the time that I am seeing Mordecai the Jew sitting in the gate of the king.`
14Xê-rết, vợ người, và các bạn hữu người đều nói rằng: Hãy biểu dựng một mộc hình, cao năm mươi thước; rồi sớm mai, hãy cầu vua khiến cho người ta treo Mạc-đô-chê tại đó; đoạn ông hãy khoái lạc đi dự yến tiệc cùng vua. Ðiều đó lấy làm đẹp lòng Ha-man; người bèn truyền dựng cây mộc hình.
14And Zeresh his wife saith to him, and all his friends, `Let them prepare a tree, in height fifty cubits, and in the morning speak to the king, and they hang Mordecai on it, and go thou in with the king unto the banquet rejoicing;` and the thing is good before Haman, and he prepareth the tree.
