¹Năm thứ tư của Giê-hô-gia-kim, con trai Giô-si-a, vua Giu-đa, lời Ðức Giê-hô-va được phán cho Giê-rê-mi rằng:

¹And it cometh to pass, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, this word hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying:

²Hãy lấy một cuốn sách, chép vào đó mọi lời ta đã phán cùng ngươi nghịch cùng Y-sơ-ra-ên, Giu-đa, và các dân ngoại, từ ngày ta khởi phán cùng ngươi, từ đời Giô-si-a, cho đến ngày nay.

²`Take to thee a roll of a book, and thou hast written on it all the words that I have spoken unto thee concerning Israel, and concerning Judah, and concerning all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day;

³Khi người Giu-đa sẽ biết mọi tai vạ ta định giáng cho chúng nó, có lẽ ai nấy đều trở lại khỏi đường xấu mình, hầu cho ta có thể tha sự gian ác và tội lỗi chúng nó.

³if so be the house of Israel do hear all the evil that I am thinking of doing to them, so that they turn back each from is evil way, and I have been propitious to their iniquity, and to their sin.`

⁴Giê-rê-mi gọi Ba-rúc, con trai Nê-ri-gia, đến, Ba-rúc nhờ niệng Giê-rê-mi đọc cho, thì chép hết mọi lời của Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cho người vào cuốn sách.

⁴And Jeremiah calleth Baruch son of Neriah, and Baruch writeth from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of Jehovah, that He hath spoken unto him, on a roll of a book.

⁵Ðoạn, Giê-rê-mi dạy Ba-rúc rằng: Ta bị giam cấm, không thể vào nhà Ðức Giê-hô-va;

⁵And Jeremiah commandeth Baruch, saying, `I am restrained, I am not able to enter the house of Jehovah;

⁶nên đến ngày kiêng ăn, chính ngươi hãy đi vào nhà Ðức Giê-hô-va, khá đọc cho dân sự nghe lời Ðức Giê-hô-va trong sách mà ngươi đã cứ miệng ta chép ra. Ngươi cũng khá đọc cho cả dân Giu-đa đến từ các thành mình đều nghe nữa.

⁶but thou hast entered — and thou hast read in the roll that thou hast written from my mouth, the words of Jehovah, in the ears of the people, in the house of Jehovah, in the day of the fast, and also in the ears of all Judah who are coming in from their cities thou dost read them;

⁷Có lẽ họ sẽ cầu xin Ðức Giê-hô-va và xây lại khỏi đường ác mình; vì cơn giận và thạnh nộ mà Ðức Giê-hô-va đã rao nghịch cùng dân nầy là lớn lắm.

⁷if so be their supplication doth fall before Jehovah, and they turn back each from his evil way, for great [is] the anger and the fury that Jehovah hath spoken concerning this people.`

⁸Ba-rúc, con trai Nê-ri-gia, theo mọi sự tiên tri Giê-rê-mi đã dạy đọc lời Ðức Giê-hô-va trong sách, tại nhà Ðức Giê-hô-va.

⁸And Baruch son of Neriah doth according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, to read in the book the words of Jehovah in the house of Jehovah.

⁹Xảy ra tháng chín, năm thứ năm về đời Giê-hô-gia-kim, con trai Giô-si-a, vua Giu-đa, hết thảy dân cư Giê-ru-sa-lem và cả dân sự từ các thành Giu-đa đến Giê-ru-sa-lem, rao sự kiêng ăn trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va.

⁹And it cometh to pass, in the fifth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, proclaimed a fast before Jehovah have all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people who are coming in from cities of Judah to Jerusalem;

¹⁰Ba-rúc bèn đọc cho cả dân sự nghe mọi lời của Giê-rê-mi trong sách, tại nhà Ðức Giê-hô-va, trong phòng Ghê-ma-ria, con trai Sa-phan làm thơ ký, nơi hành lang trên, lối vào cửa mới nhà Ðức Giê-hô-va.

¹⁰and Baruch readeth in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah, in the chamber of Gemariah son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the opening of the new gate of the house of Jehovah, in the ears of all the people.

¹¹Khi Mi-chê, con trai Ghê-ma-ria, cháu Sa-phan, đã nghe đọc mọi lời của Ðức Giê-hô-va trong sách,

¹¹And Michaiah son of Gemariah, son of Shaphan, heareth all the words of Jehovah from off the book,

¹²bèn xuống cung vua, trong phòng thơ ký; và, nầy, hết thảy các quan trưởng đều ngồi đó: tức Ê-li-sa-ma thơ ký, Ðê-la-gia con trai Sê-ma-gia, Eân-na-than con trai Aïc-bồ, Ghê-ma-ria con trai Sa-phan, Sê-đê-kia con trai Ha-na-nia, và hết thảy các quan trưởng.

¹²and he goeth down [to] the house of the king, unto the chamber of the scribe, and lo, there are all the heads sitting: Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan son of Acbor, and Gemariah son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah son of Hananiah, and all the heads.

¹³Mi-chê thuật cho họ mòi lời mình đã nghe, khi Ba-rúc đọc sách vào tai dân sự.

¹³And declare to them doth Micaiah all the words that he hath heard, when Baruch readeth in the book in the ears of the people;

¹⁴Cho nên các quan trưởng bèn sai Giê-hu-đi, con trai Nê-tha-nia cháu Sê-lê-mia, chắt Cu-si, đến cùng Ba-rúc, mà rằng: Hãy cầm trong tay cuốn sách mà ngươi đã đọc cho dân sự nghe, và đến đây. Ba-rúc, con trai Nê-ri-gia, cầm cuốn sách trong tay mình, và đến cùng họ.

¹⁴and all the heads send unto Baruch, Jehudi son of Nethaniah, son of Shelemiah, son of Cushi, saying, `The roll in which thou hast read in the ears of the people take in thy hand, and come.` And Baruch son of Neriah taketh the roll in his hand and cometh in unto them,

¹⁵Họ bảo người rằng: Hãy ngồi và đọc đi cho chúng ta nghe. Ba-rúc đọc sách cho họ.

¹⁵and they say unto him, `Sit down, we pray thee, and read it in our ears,` and Baruch readeth in their ears,

¹⁶Nhưng, khi họ nghe hết mọi lời, thì sợ mà ngó nhau, và nói cùng Ba-rúc rằng: Chúng ta chắc sẽ đem mọi lời đó tâu cùng vua.

¹⁶and it cometh to pass, when they hear all the words, they have been afraid one at another, and say unto Baruch, `We do surely declare to the king all these words.`

¹⁷Ðoạn, họ gạn hỏi Ba-rúc rằng: Hãy cho chúng ta biết thể nào ngươi đã chép mọi lời nầy bởi miệng người.

¹⁷And they asked Baruch, saying, `Declare, we pray thee, to us, how didst thou write all these words — from his mouth?`

¹⁸Ba-rúc đáp rằng: Người lấy miệng thuật cho tôi những lời nầy, và tôi cùng mực chép vào cuốn sách.

¹⁸And Baruch saith to them, `From his mouth, he pronounceth unto me all these words, and I am writing on the book with ink.`

¹⁹Các quan trưởng bèn nói cùng Ba-rúc rằng: Ði đi, ngươi với Giê-rê-mi hãy lánh mình, đừng cho ai biết các ngươi ở đâu.

¹⁹And the heads say unto Baruch, `Go, be hidden, thou and Jeremiah, and let no one know where ye [are].`

²⁰Rồi các quan trưởng cất cuống sách trong phòng thơ ký Ê-li-sa-ma, vào đến cùng vua trong hành lang, và thật hết mọi lời cho vua nghe.

²⁰And they go in unto the king, to the court, and the roll they have laid up in the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and they declare in the ears of the king all the words.

²¹Vua sai Giê-hu-đi lấy cuốn sách; Giê-hu-đi lấy cuốn sách trong phòng thơ ký Ê-li-sa-ma, và đem đọc cho vua và hết thảy các quan trưởng đứng chầu bên vua đều nghe.

²¹And the king sendeth Jehudi to take the roll, and he taketh it out of the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and Jehudi readeth it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the heads who are standing by the king;

²²Bấy giờ là tháng chín; vua đương ngồi trong cung mùa đông, có lò than đỏ trước mặt vua.

²²and the king is sitting in the winter-house, in the ninth month, and the stove before him is burning,

²³Xảy ra, Giê-hu-đi vừa đọc được ba bốn hàng trong sách, vua lấy dao nhỏ cắt đi và ném vào lửa trong lò, cho đến sách cháy hết trong lửa nơi lò.

²³and it cometh to pass, when Jehudi readeth three or four leaves, he cutteth it out with the scribe`s knife, and hath cast unto the fire, that [is] on the stove, till the consumption of all the roll by the fire that [is] on the stove.

²⁴Vua cùng các bầy tôi đã nghe mọi lời đó, không sợ gì cả, không xé áo mình.

²⁴And the king and all his servants who are hearing all these words have not been afraid, nor rent their garments.

²⁵Vả lại, Eân-na-than, Ðê-la-gia và Ghê-ma-ria có cầu xin vua đừng đốt cuốn sách, mà vua chẳng khứng nghe.

²⁵And also Elnathan, and Delaiah, and Gemariah have interceded with the king not to burn the roll, and he hath not hearkened unto them.

²⁶Vua truyền cho Giê-rác-mê-ên, con trai Ham-mê-léc cho Sê-ra-gia, con trai Ách-ri-ên, và cho Sê-lê-mia, con trai Áp-đê-ên, đi bắt thơ ký Ba-rúc và tiên tri Giê-rê-mi; nhưng Ðức Giê-hô-va giấu hai người.

²⁶And the king commandeth Jerahmeel son of Hammelek, and Seraiah son of Azriel, and Shelemiah son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Jehovah doth hide them.

²⁷Sau khi vua đốt cuốn sách có những lời mà Ba-rúc đã cứ miệng Giê-rê-mi chép ra, có lời Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cho Giê-rê-mi như vầy:

²⁷And there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah — after the king`s burning the roll, even the words that Baruch hath written from the mouth of Jeremiah — saying:

²⁸Hãy lấy một cuốn khác, và chép vào đó mọi lời đã chép trong cuốn trước mà Giê-hô-gia-kim, vua Giu-đa, đã đốt đi.

²⁸`Turn, take to thee another roll, and write on it all the former words that were on the first roll, that Jehoiakim king of Judah burnt,

²⁹Còn về Giê-hô-gia-kim, vua Giu-đa, thì ngươi khá nói rằng: Ðức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Ngươi đã đốt cuốn nầy và nói rằng: Sao ngươi có chép rằng vua Ba-by-lôn chắc sẽ đến, phá đất nầy, và diệt loài người và loài vật?

²⁹and unto Jehoiakim king of Judah thou dost say: Thus said Jehovah, Thou hast burnt this roll, saying, Wherefore hast thou written on it, saying, The king of Babylon surely cometh in, and hath destroyed this land, and caused to cease from it man and beast?

³⁰Vì cớ đó, nầy là lời Ðức Giê-hô-va phán về Giê-hô-gia-kim, vua Giu-đa: Chẳng có ai thuộc về nó sẽ ngồi trên ngai Ða-vít; thây nó sẽ bị giang nắng ban ngày, và giang sương muối ban đêm.

³⁰`Therefore, thus said Jehovah, concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He hath none sitting on the throne of David, and his carcase is cast out to heat by day, and to cold by night;

³¹Ta sẽ phạt nó, phạt con cháu và bầy tôi nó, vì gian ác chúng nó. Ta sẽ giáng trên chúng nó, trên dân cư Giê-ru-sa-lem và người Giu-đa, mọi tai nạn ta đã rao cho chúng nó mà chúng nó không nghe.

³¹and I have charged on him, and on his seed, and on his servants, their iniquity; and I have brought in on them, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto the men of Judah, all the evil that I have spoken unto them, and they hearkened not.`

³²Giê-rê-mi bèn lấy một cuốn khác đưa cho thơ ký Ba-rúc, con trai Nê-ri-gia; Ba-rúc cứ miệng Giê-rê-mi mà chép lại mọi lời trong cuốn mà Giê-hô-gia-kim, vua Giu-đa, đã đốt đi trong lửa. Có nhiều lời giống nhau đã thêm vào đó.

³²And Jeremiah hath taken another roll, and giveth it unto Baruch son of Neriah the scribe, and he writeth on it from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book that Jehoiakim king of Judah hath burnt in the fire; and again there were added unto them many words like these.
