¹Vừa lúc ban mai, các thầy tế lễ cả bàn luận với các trưởng lão, các thầy thông giáo cùng cả tòa công luận; khi đã trói Ðức Chúa Jêsus rồi, thì giải nộp cho Phi-lát.

¹And immediately, in the morning, the chief priests having made a consultation, with the elders, and scribes, and the whole sanhedrim, having bound Jesus, did lead away, and delivered [him] to Pilate;

²Phi-lát hỏi Ngài rằng: Ấy chính ngươi là Vua dân Giu-đa phải không? Ðức Chúa Jêsus đáp rằng: Thật như lời.

²and Pilate questioned him, `Art thou the king of the Jews?` and he answering said to him, `Thou dost say [it].`

³Các thầy tế lễ cả cáo Ngài nhiều điều.

³And the chief priests were accusing him of many things, [but he answered nothing.]

⁴Phi-lát lại tra gạn Ngài, mà rằng: Ngươi chẳng đối đáp chi hết sao? Hãy coi họ cáo tội ngươi biết bao nhiêu!

⁴And Pilate again questioned him, saying, `Thou dost not answer anything! lo, how many things they do testify against thee!`

⁵Nhưng Ðức Chúa Jêsus chẳng trả lời chi nữa, nên mỗi Phi-lát lấy làm lạ.

⁵and Jesus did no more answer anything, so that Pilate wondered.

⁶Vả, hễ đến ngày lễ Vượt Qua, quan vốn quen thói tha cho dân một tên tù, tùy theo dân xin.

⁶And at every feast he was releasing to them one prisoner, whomsoever they were asking;

⁷Bấy giờ có một đứa tên là Ba-ra-ba bị tù với kẻ làm loạn, vì trong khi nổi loạn, chúng nó phạm tội giết người.

⁷and there was [one] named Barabbas, bound with those making insurrection with him, who had in the insurrection committed murder.

⁸Ðoàn dân đã lên, bèn xin Phi-lát làm cho mình theo như lệ thường.

⁸And the multitude having cried out, began to ask for themselves as he was always doing to them,

⁹Phi-lát trả lời rằng: Các ngươi muốn ta tha Vua dân Giu-đa cho chăng?

⁹and Pilate answered them, saying, `Will ye [that] I shall release to you the king of the Jews?`

¹⁰Vì người biết rõ các thầy tế lễ cả đã nộp Ngài bởi lòng ghen ghét.

¹⁰for he knew that because of envy the chief priests had delivered him up;

¹¹Nhưng các thầy tế lễ cả xui dân xin người tha tên Ba-ra-ba cho mình thì hơn.

¹¹and the chief priests did move the multitude, that he might rather release Barabbas to them.

¹²Phi-lát lại cất tiếng hỏi rằng: Vậy thì các ngươi muốn ta dùng cách nào xử người mà các ngươi gọi là Vua dân Giu-đa?

¹²And Pilate answering, again said to them, `What, then, will ye [that] I shall do to him whom ye call king of the Jews?`

¹³Chúng lại kêu lên rằng: Hãy đóng đinh nó vào thập tự giá!

¹³and they again cried out, `Crucify him.`

¹⁴Phi-lát nói cùng chúng rằng: Song người nầy đã làm điều ác gì? Chúng lại kêu lớn tiếng hơn rằng: Hãy đóng đinh nó vào thập tự giá!

¹⁴And Pilate said to them, `Why — what evil did he?` and they cried out the more vehemently, `Crucify him;`

¹⁵Phi-lát muốn cho đẹp lòng dân, bèn tha tên Ba-ra-ba; và sai đánh đòn Ðức Chúa Jêsus, rồi giao Ngài cho chúng đem đóng đinh trên cây thập tự.

¹⁵and Pilate, wishing to content the multitude, released to them Barabbas, and delivered up Jesus — having scourged [him] — that he might be crucified.

¹⁶Lính điệu Ðức Chúa Jêsus vào sân trong, tức là trong chỗ trường án; và nhóm cả cơ binh lại đó.

¹⁶And the soldiers led him away into the hall, which is Praetorium, and call together the whole band,

¹⁷Họ choàng cho Ngài một cái áo điều, và đội trên đầu Ngài một cái mão bằng gai họ đã đương,

¹⁷and clothe him with purple, and having plaited a crown of thorns, they put [it] on him,

¹⁸rồi chào Ngài rằng: Kính lạy Vua dân Giu-đa!

¹⁸and began to salute him, `Hail, King of the Jews.`

¹⁹Lại lấy cây sậy đánh đầu Ngài, nhổ trên Ngài, và quì xuống trước mặt Ngài mà lạy.

¹⁹And they were smiting him on the head with a reed, and were spitting on him, and having bent the knee, were bowing to him,

²⁰Khi họ đã nhạo cười Ngài như vậy rồi, thì cổi áo điều ra, mặc áo của Ngài lại cho Ngài, và đem ra để đóng đinh trên cây thập tự.

²⁰and when they [had] mocked him, they took the purple from off him, and clothed him in his own garments, and they led him forth, that they may crucify him.

²¹Có một tên Si-môn kia, người thành Sy-ren, là cha A-léc-xan-đơ và Ru-phu, ở ngoài ruộng về, đi ngang qua đó; họ bắt phải vác cây thập tự.

²¹And they impress a certain one passing by — Simon, a Cyrenian, coming from the field, the father of Alexander and Rufus — that he may bear his cross,

²²Họ đem Ðức Chúa Jêsus đến nơi kia, gọi là Gô-gô-tha, nghĩa là chỗ Sọ.

²²and they bring him to the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, `Place of a skull;`

²³Họ cho Ngài uống rượu hòa với một dược; song Ngài không uống.

²³and they were giving him to drink wine mingled with myrrh, and he did not receive.

²⁴Khi đóng đinh Ngài trên cây thập tự rồi, họ chia áo xống Ngài cho nhau, bắt thăm để biết ai được gì.

²⁴And having crucified him, they were dividing his garments, casting a lot upon them, what each may take;

²⁵Lúc đóng đinh Ngài, là giờ thứ ba.

²⁵and it was the third hour, and they crucified him;

²⁶Án Ngài có ghi vào cái bảng rằng: Vua dân Giu-đa.

²⁶and the inscription of his accusation was written above — `The King of the Jews.`

²⁷Cũng có hai đứa ăn cướp bị đóng đinh với Ngài, một đứa tại cây thập tự bên hữu Ngài, một đứa tại cây thập tự bên tả.

²⁷And with him they crucify two robbers, one on the right hand, and one on his left,

²⁸Như vậy được ứng nghiệm lời Kinh Thánh rằng: Ngài đã bị kể vào hàng kẻ dữ.

²⁸and the Writing was fulfilled that is saying, `And with lawless ones he was numbered.`

²⁹Những kẻ đi ngang qua đó chế báng Ngài, lắc đầu mà nói rằng: Ê! ngươi là kẻ phá đền thờ, và cất lại trong ba ngày,

²⁹And those passing by were speaking evil of him, shaking their heads, and saying, `Ah, the thrower down of the sanctuary, and in three days the builder!

³⁰hãy cứu lấy mình, xuống khỏi cây thập tự đi!

³⁰save thyself, and come down from the cross!`

³¹Các thầy tế lễ cả và các thầy thông giáo cũng nói với nhau như vậy, mà nhạo cười Ngài rằng: Hắn đã cứu kẻ khác; mà cứu mình không được!

³¹And in like manner also the chief priests, mocking with one another, with the scribes, said, `Others he saved; himself he is not able to save.

³²Hỡi Ðấng Christ, Vua dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, bây giờ hãy xuống khỏi cây thập tự, để cho chúng ta thấy và tin! Hai đứa bị đóng đinh cùng Ngài cũng nhiếc móc Ngài nữa.

³²The Christ! the king of Israel — let him come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe;` and those crucified with him were reproaching him.

³³Ðến giờ thứ sáu, khắp đất đều tối tăm mù mịt cho tới giờ thứ chín.

³³And the sixth hour having come, darkness came over the whole land till the ninth hour,

³⁴Ðến giờ thứ chín, Ðức Chúa Jêsus kêu lớn tiếng rằng: Ê-lô -i, Ê-lô -i, lam-ma-sa-bách-ta-ni? nghĩa là: Ðức Chúa Trời tôi ơi, Ðức Chúa Jêsus tôi ơi, sao Ngài lìa bỏ tôi?

³⁴and at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a great voice, saying, `Eloi, Eloi, lamma sabachthani?` which is, being interpreted, `My God, my God, why didst Thou forsake me?`

³⁵Có mấy người đứng đó nghe vậy, thì nói rằng: Coi kìa, hắn kêu Ê-li.

³⁵And certain of those standing by, having heard, said, `Lo, Elijah he doth call;`

³⁶Có một người trong bọn họ chạy lấy bông đá thấm đầy giấm, để trên đầu cây sậy, đưa cho Ngài uống, mà nói rằng: Hãy để, chúng ta coi thử Ê-li có đến đem hắn xuống chăng!

³⁶and one having run, and having filled a spunge with vinegar, having put [it] also on a reed, was giving him to drink, saying, `Let alone, let us see if Elijah doth come to take him down.`

³⁷Nhưng Ðức Chúa Jêsus kêu một tiếng lớn, rồi trút linh hồn.

³⁷And Jesus having uttered a loud cry, yielded the spirit,

³⁸Màn trong đền thờ xé ra làm đôi từ trên chí dưới.

³⁸and the veil of the sanctuary was rent in two, from top to bottom,

³⁹Thầy đội đứng đối ngang Ngài, thấy Ngài trút linh hồn như vậy, thì nói rằng: Người nầy quả thật là Con Ðức Chúa Trời.

³⁹and the centurion who was standing over-against him, having seen that, having so cried out, he yielded the spirit, said, `Truly this man was Son of God.`

⁴⁰Lại có những đờn bà đứng xa xa mà xem. Trong số ấy có Ma-ri, Ma-đơ-len, Ma-ri là mẹ Gia-cơ nhỏ, và Giô-sê, cùng Sa-lô-mê,

⁴⁰And there were also women afar off beholding, among whom was also Mary the Magdalene, and Mary of James the less, and of Joses, and Salome,

⁴¹là ba người đã theo hầu việc Ngài khi Ngài ở xứ Ga-li-lê; cũng có nhiều đờn bà khác nữa, là những người đã theo Ngài lên thành Giê-ru-sa-lem.

⁴¹(who also, when he was in Galilee, were following him, and were ministering to him,) and many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem.

⁴²Bấy giờ là ngày sắm sửa, nghĩa là hôm trước ngày Sa-bát; khi đã chiều tối,

⁴²And now evening having come, seeing it was the preparation, that is, the fore-sabbath,

⁴³có một người tên là Giô-sép, Ở thành A-ri-ma-thê, là nghị viên tòa công luận có danh vọng, cũng trông đợi nước Ðức Chúa Trời. Người bạo gan đến Phi-lát mà xin xác Ðức Chúa Jêsus.

⁴³Joseph of Arimathea, an honourable counsellor, who also himself was waiting for the reign of God, came, boldly entered in unto Pilate, and asked the body of Jesus.

⁴⁴Phi-lát lấy làm lạ về Ngài chết mau như vậy, bèn đòi thầy đội đến mà hỏi thử Ngài chết đã lâu chưa.

⁴⁴And Pilate wondered if he were already dead, and having called near the centurion, did question him if he were long dead,

⁴⁵Vừa nghe tin thầy đội trình, thì giao xác cho Giô-sép.

⁴⁵and having known [it] from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.

⁴⁶Người đã mua vải liệm, cất xác Ðức Chúa Jêsus xuống khỏi cây thập tự, dùng vải liệm vấn lấy Ngài, rồi để xác trong huyệt đã đục trong hòn đá lớn, đoạn, lăn một hòn đá chận cửa huyệt lại.

⁴⁶And he, having brought fine linen, and having taken him down, wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre that had been hewn out of a rock, and he rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre,

⁴⁷Vả, Ma-ri Ma-đơ-len cùng Ma-ri mẹ Giô-sê, đều thấy chỗ táng Ngài.

⁴⁷and Mary the Magdalene, and Mary of Joses, were beholding where he is laid.
