¹Thà người nghèo khổ ăn ở thanh liêm, Còn hơn là kẻ môi miệng gian tà và là một kẻ ngây dại.

¹Better [is] the poor walking in his integrity, Than the perverse [in] his lips, who [is] a fool.

²Lòng thiếu tri thức ấy chẳng phải một điều hay; Vả kẻ nào vội bước bị vấp phạm.

²Also, without knowledge the soul [is] not good, And the hasty in feet is sinning.

³Sự ngu dại của người nào làm cho hư hỏng đường lối mình, Và lòng người oán Ðức Giê-hô-va.

³The folly of man perverteth his way, And against Jehovah is his heart wroth.

⁴Sự giàu có kết nhiều bậu bạn; Còn kẻ khó khăn dầu bạn cũng lìa bỏ.

⁴Wealth addeth many friends, And the poor from his neighbour is separated.

⁵Chứng gian nào chẳng bị phạt; Và kẻ buông điều giả dối không sao thoát khỏi.

⁵A false witness is not acquitted, Whoso breatheth out lies is not delivered.

⁶Có nhiều kẻ tìm ơn người rộng rãi; Và mỗi người đều là bằng hữu của kẻ hay ban lễ vật.

⁶Many entreat the face of the noble, And all have made friendship to a man of gifts.

⁷Hết thảy anh em ruột của kẻ nghèo đều ghét người; Phương chi bậu bạn sẽ lìa xa khỏi người! Người lấy lời đuổi theo chúng, chúng chẳng còn đó nữa!

⁷All the brethren of the poor have hated him, Surely also his friends have been far from him, He is pursuing words — they are not!

⁸Ai có được sự khôn ngoan thương mến linh hồn mình; Còn ai giữ lấy sự thông sáng tìm được phước hạnh.

⁸Whoso is getting heart is loving his soul, He is keeping understanding to find good.

⁹Chứng gian sẽ chẳng thoát khỏi bị phạt; Và kẻ buông lời giả dối sẽ bị hư mất.

⁹A false witness is not acquitted, And whoso breatheth out lies perisheth.

¹⁰Aên ở sung sướng chẳng xứng hiệp cho kẻ ngu muội; Phương chi kẻ tôi mọi cai trị các hoàng tử!

¹⁰Luxury is not comely for a fool, Much less for a servant to rule among princes.

¹¹Sự khôn ngoan của người khiến cho người chậm nóng giận; Và người lấy làm danh dự mà bỏ qua tội phạm.

¹¹The wisdom of a man hath deferred his anger, And his glory [is] to pass over transgression.

¹²Vua thạnh nộ khác nào sư tử gầm thét; Còn ân dịch người như sương móc xuống trên đồng cỏ.

¹²The wrath of a king [is] a growl as of a young lion, And as dew on the herb his good-will.

¹³Con trai ngu muội là tai họa cho cha nó; Và sự tranh cãi của người vợ vốn một máng xối hằng chảy luôn.

¹³A calamity to his father [is] a foolish son, And the contentions of a wife [are] a continual dropping.

¹⁴Nhà cửa và tài sản là cơ nghiệp của tổ phụ để lại; Còn một người vợ khôn ngoan do nơi Ðức Giê-hô-va mà đến.

¹⁴House and wealth [are] the inheritance of fathers, And from Jehovah [is] an understanding wife.

¹⁵Sự biếng nhác làm cho ngủ mê; Và linh hồn trễ nải sẽ bị đói khát.

¹⁵Sloth causeth deep sleep to fall, And an indolent soul doth hunger.

¹⁶Ai gìn giữ điều răn, gìn giữ lấy linh hồn mình; Nhưng kẻ nào không coi chừng đường lối mình sẽ thác.

¹⁶Whoso is keeping the command is keeping his soul, Whoso is despising His ways dieth.

¹⁷Ai thương xót kẻ nghèo, tức cho Ðức Giê-hô-va vay mượn; Ngài sẽ báo lại việc ơn lành ấy cho người.

¹⁷Whoso is lending [to] Jehovah is favouring the poor, And his deed He repayeth to him.

¹⁸Hãy sửa phạt con ngươi trong lúc còn sự trông cậy; Nhưng chớ toan lòng giết nó.

¹⁸Chastise thy son, for there is hope, And to put him to death lift not up thy soul.

¹⁹Người hay nóng giận dữ tợn, sẽ phải mang hình; Vì nếu con giải cứu hắn, ắt phải giải cứu lại nữa.

¹⁹A man of great wrath is bearing punishment, For, if thou dost deliver, yet again thou dost add.

²⁰Hay nghe lời khuyên dạy, và tiếp nhận sự giáo hối, Ðể con được khôn ngoan trong lúc cuối cùng.

²⁰Hear counsel and receive instruction, So that thou art wise in thy latter end.

²¹Trong lòng loài người có nhiều mưu kế; Song ý chỉ của Ðức Giê-hô-va sẽ thành được.

²¹Many [are] the purposes in a man`s heart, And the counsel of Jehovah it standeth.

²²Lòng nhơn từ của người làm cho người ta yêu chuộng mình; Và người nghèo khổ là hơn kẻ nói dối.

²²The desirableness of a man [is] his kindness, And better [is] the poor than a liar.

²³Sự kính sợ Ðức Giê-hô-va dẫn đến sự sống, Làm cho người ta được ở thỏa nguyện, không bị tai họa lâm đến.

²³The fear of Jehovah [is] to life, And satisfied he remaineth — he is not charged with evil.

²⁴Kẻ biếng nhác thò tay mình trong dĩa, Rồi không thèm đem nó lên miệng mình nữa.

²⁴The slothful hath hidden his hand in a dish, Even unto his mouth he bringeth it not back.

²⁵Hãy đánh kẻ nhạo báng, thì người ngu dại sẽ trở nên khôn khéo; Khá sửa dạy người thông sáng, ắt người sẽ hiểu điều tri thức.

²⁵A scorner smite, and the simple acts prudently, And give reproof to the intelligent, He understandeth knowledge.

²⁶Kẻ hãm hại cha mình, và xô đuổi mẹ mình, Là một con trai gây hổ ngươi và chiêu sỉ nhục.

²⁶Whoso is spoiling a father causeth a mother to flee, A son causing shame, and bringing confusion.

²⁷Hỡi con, hãy thôi nghe sự khuyên dạy Khiến cho con lầm lạc cách xa các lời tri thức.

²⁷Cease, my son, to hear instruction — To err from sayings of knowledge.

²⁸Chứng gian tà nhạo báng sự công bình; Và miệng kẻ dữ nuốt tội ác.

²⁸A worthless witness scorneth judgment, And the mouth of the wicked swalloweth iniquity.

²⁹Sự xét đoán dự bị cho kẻ nhạo báng; Và roi vọt sắm sửa cho lưng kẻ ngu muội.

²⁹Judgments have been prepared for scorners, And stripes for the back of fools!
