¹Hi-ram, vua Ty-rơ, sai sứ giả đến Ða-vít, cùng gởi gỗ bá hương, thợ hồ, thợ mộc, đặng cất cho người một cái cung.

¹Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and masons, and carpenters, to build him a house.

²Ða-vít nhìn biết rằng Ðức Giê-hô-va đã vững lập mình làm vua trên Y-sơ-ra-ên; vì cớ dân Y-sơ-ra-ên của Ngài, nước người được hưng vượng thêm.

²David perceived that Yahweh had established him king over Israel; for his kingdom was exalted on high, for his people Israel’s sake.

³Tại Giê-ru-sa-lem, Ða-vít lại còn lấy vợ khác, và sanh những con trai con gái.

³David took more wives at Jerusalem; and David became the father of more sons and daughters.

⁴Nầy là tên các con cái người sanh tại Giê-ru-sa-lem: Sa-mua, Sô-háp, Na-than, Sa-lô-môn,

⁴These are the names of the children whom he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,

⁵Gi-ba, Ê-li-sua, Eân-bê-lết,

⁵and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpelet,

⁶Nô-ga, Nê-phết, Gia-phia,

⁶and Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

⁷Ê-li-sa-ma, Bê-ên-gia-đa, và Ê-li-phê-lết.

⁷and Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphelet.

⁸Khi dân Phi-li-tin hay rằng Ða-vít đã được xức dầu làm vua trên cả Y-sơ-ra-ên, thì hết thảy người Phi-li-tin đều đi lên đặng tìm người; Ða-vít hay đều đó, bèn đi ra đón chúng nó.

⁸When the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David: and David heard of it, and went out against them.

⁹Vả dân Phi-li-tin đã loán đến, tràn ra trong trũng Rê-pha-im.

⁹Now the Philistines had come and made a raid in the valley of Rephaim.

¹⁰Ða-vít cầu vấn Ðức Chúa Trời rằng: Tôi phải đi lên đánh dân Phi-li-tin chăng? Chúa sẽ phó chúng nó vào tay tôi chăng? Ðức Giê-hô-va đáp lời cùng người rằng: Hãy đi lên, ta sẽ phó chúng nó vào tay ngươi.

¹⁰David inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand?” Yahweh said to him, “Go up; for I will deliver them into your hand.”

¹¹Ngài Phi-li-tin kéo lên Ba-anh-Phê-rát-sim, rồi tại đó Ða-vít đánh chúng nó; đoạn, Ða-vít nói rằng: Ðức Chúa Trời có dùng tay ta đã đánh phá cơn thịnh nộ ta, như nước phá vỡ vậy; bởi cớ ấy người ta gọi chỗ đó là Ba-anh-Phê-rát-sim.

¹¹So they came up to Baal Perazim, and David struck them there; and David said, God has broken my enemies by my hand, like the breach of waters. Therefore they called the name of that place Baal Perazim.

¹²Người Phi-li-tin bỏ các thần tượng mình tại đó; Ða-vít truyền thiêu nó trong lửa.

¹²They left their gods there; and David gave commandment, and they were burned with fire.

¹³Người Phi-li-tin lại bủa khắp trong trũng.

¹³The Philistines yet again made a raid in the valley.

¹⁴Ða-vít cầu vấn Ðức Chúa Trời nữa; Ðức Chúa Trời đáp với người rằng: Ngươi chớ đi lên theo chúng nó; hãy đi vòng chúng nó, rồi đến hãm đánh chúng nó tại nơi đối ngang cây dâu.

¹⁴David inquired again of God; and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them. Turn away from them, and come on them over against the mulberry trees.

¹⁵Vừa khi ngươi nghe tiếng bước đi trên ngọn cây dâu, bấy giờ ngươi sẽ kéo ra trận; vì Ðức Chúa Trời ra trước ngươi đặng hãm đánh đạo quân Phi-li-tin.

¹⁵It shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then you shall go out to battle; for God has gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines.”

¹⁶Ða-vít làm y như lời Ðức Chúa Trời đã phán dặn; họ đánh đuổi đạo quân Phi-li-tin từ Ga-ba-ôn cho đến Ghê-xe.

¹⁶David did as God commanded him: and they struck the army of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gezer.

¹⁷Danh của Ða-vít đồn ra trong khắp các nước; Ðức Giê-hô-va khiến cho các dân tộc đều kính sợ Ða-vít.

¹⁷The fame of David went out into all lands; and Yahweh brought the fear of him on all nations.
