¹Ða-vít đi khỏi đó, và trốn trong hang đá A-đu-lam. Khi các anh và cả nhà cha người hay điều đó, bèn đi xuống cùng người.

¹David therefore departed there, and escaped to the cave of Adullam. When his brothers and all his father’s house heard it, they went down there to him.

²Phàm kẻ nào bị cùng khốn, kẻ nào mắc nợ, và những người có lòng bị sầu khổ cũng đều nhóm họp cùng người, và người làm đầu họ. Ấy vậy, chung quanh người có chừng bốn trăm nguời.

²Everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented, gathered themselves to him; and he became captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.

³Từ đó Ða-vít đi đến Mít-bê trong xứ Mô-áp, và người nói cùng vua xứ Mô-áp rằng: Xin cho phép cha mẹ tôi đến ở với vua cho đến chừng tôi biết điều Ðức Chúa Trời sẽ làm cho tôi.

³David went there to Mizpeh of Moab, and he said to the king of Moab, “Please let my father and my mother come out with you, until I know what God will do for me.”

⁴Vậy, Ða-vít dẫn cha mẹ mình đến trước mặt vua Mô-áp, và hai người ở với vua ấy trọn lúc Ða-vít ở trong đồn.

⁴He brought them before the king of Moab; and they lived with him all the while that David was in the stronghold.

⁵Nhưng Gát, đấng tiên tri, nói cùng Ða-vít rằng: Chớ ở trong đồn nầy; hãy đi đến xứ Giu-đa. Vậy, Ða-vít đi, và đến trong rừng Hê-rết.

⁵The prophet Gad said to David, “Don’t stay in the stronghold. Depart, and go into the land of Judah.” Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hereth.

⁶Sau-lơ hay rằng người ta đã tìm được Ða-vít và những kẻ theo người. Bấy giờ, Sau-lơ ở tại Ghi-bê-a, ngồi dưới cây liễu xủ tơ, trên nơi cao; tay cầm giáo, còn các tôi tớ người chầu chực bên người.

⁶Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men who were with him. Now Saul was sitting in Gibeah, under the tamarisk tree in Ramah, with his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him.

⁷Sau-lơ nói cùng các tôi tớ chầu chực bên mình rằng: Hỡi dân Bên-gia-min, hãy nghe: Có phải con trai Y-sai sẽ ban cho hết thảy các ngươi những ruộng và vườn nho chăng? Các ngươi trông cậy nó sẽ lập các ngươi làm trưởng ngàn người và trăm ngươi ư?

⁷Saul said to his servants who stood about him, “Hear now, you Benjamites! Will the son of Jesse give everyone of you fields and vineyards, will he make you all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds,

⁸Vậy, cớ sao các ngươi hết thảy đồng mưu nghịch ta, và cớ sao chẳng cho ta hay rằng con trai ta đã kết giao ước cùng con trai Y-sai? Nhân sao chẳng ai thương xót ta, cho ta hay trước rằng con trai ta đã xui kẻ tôi tớ ta nghịch cùng ta, lập mưu hại ta, như nó đã làm ngày nay?

⁸that all of you have conspired against me, and there is none who discloses to me when my son makes a treaty with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you who is sorry for me, or discloses to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?”

⁹Bấy giờ, Ðô -e người Ê-đôm, làm đầu những đầy tớ của Sau-lơ, thưa rằng: Tôi có thấy con trai Y-sai đi đến Nóp, vào nhà A-hi-mê-léc, con trai A-hi-túp;

⁹Then Doeg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul, answered and said, “I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.

¹⁰người cầu vấn Ðức Giê-hô-va cho hắn, và có cấp cho hắn lương thực, cùng trao cho hắn cây gươm của Gô-li-át, người Phi-li-tin.

¹⁰He inquired of Yahweh for him, gave him food, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.”

¹¹Vua sai đòi A-hi-mê-léc, con trai A-hi-túp, là thầy tế lễ, luôn cả nhà cha người, tức là những thầy tế lễ ở tại Nóp. Chúng thảy đều đến cùng vua.

¹¹Then the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father’s house, the priests who were in Nob: and they came all of them to the king.

¹²Sau-lơ nói: Hỡi con trai A-hi-túp, hãy nghe. Người thưa rằng: Chúa ôi! có tôi đây?

¹²Saul said, “Hear now, you son of Ahitub.” He answered, “Here I am, my lord.”

¹³Sau-lơ tiếp rằng: Cớ sao ngươi đồng mưu cùng con trai Y-sai mà nghịch cùng ta? Ngươi có cấp bánh cho nó và trao cho nó một cây gươm, cầu vấn Ðức Chúa Trời cho nó, để nó dấy nghịch cùng ta, lập mưu kế hại ta, như nó đã làm ngày nay?

¹³Saul said to him, “Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread, and a sword, and have inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?”

¹⁴A-hi-mê-léc thưa cùng vua rằng: Vậy, trong vòng đầy tớ vua, ai là người trung tín như Ða-vít, làm phò mã vua, dự hội mật nghị của vua, và được tôn quí hơn hết trong nhà vua?

¹⁴Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, “Who among all your servants is so faithful as David, who is the king’s son-in-law, and is taken into your council, and is honorable in your house?

¹⁵Có phải ngày nay tôi mới khởi cầu vấn Ðức Chúa Trời cho người sao? Tôi quyết không làm như vậy! Xin vua chớ ngờ một lời nào cho tôi tớ vua hoặc cho người nào trong nhà cha tôi; vì kẻ tôi tớ vua chẳng biết gì, hoặc ít hay nhiều về điều đó.

¹⁵Have I today begun to inquire of God for him? Be it far from me! Don’t let the king impute anything to his servant, nor to all the house of my father; for your servant knows nothing of all this, less or more.”

¹⁶Vua đáp: Hỡi A-hi-mê-léc, thật ngươi và cả nhà cha người đều sẽ chết!

¹⁶The king said, “You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you, and all your father’s house.”

¹⁷Vua bèn nói cùng các thị vệ đứng gần mình rằng: Hãy lại gần giết những thầy tế lễ của Ðức Giê-hô-va, vì chúng nó giúp đỡ Ða-vít, biết nó trốn mà không cho ta hay. Nhưng các đầy tớ của vua không khứng tra tay trên mình những thầy tế lễ của Ðức Giê-hô-va, cũng chẳng chịu đánh họ nữa.

¹⁷The king said to the guard who stood about him, “Turn, and kill the priests of Yahweh; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew that he fled, and didn’t disclose it to me.” But the servants of the king wouldn’t put forth their hand to fall on the priests of Yahweh.

¹⁸Vua bèn nói cùng Ðô -e rằng: Ngươi hãy lại gần đánh giết những thầy tế lễ. Ðô -e, người Ê-đôm, lại gần, đánh những thầy tế lễ; và trong ngày đó hắn giết tám mươi lăm người mặc ê-phót bằng vải gai.

¹⁸The king said to Doeg, “Turn and attack the priests!” Doeg the Edomite turned, and he attacked the priests, and he killed on that day eighty-five people who wore a linen ephod.

¹⁹Sau-lơ lại dùng gươm giết dân Nóp, thành của thầy tế lễ: người nam và người nữ, con trẻ và con đương bú, bò, lừa, và chiên, thảy đều bị gươm giết.

¹⁹He struck Nob, the city of the priests, with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and nursing babies, and cattle and donkeys and sheep, with the edge of the sword.

²⁰Song, một trong các con trai của A-hi-mê-léc, cháu của A-hi-túp, tên là A-bia-tha, thoát khỏi, trốn đến cùng Ða-vít.

²⁰One of the sons of Ahimelech, the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David.

²¹A-bia-tha thuật lại cho Ða-vít hay rằng Sau-lơ giết những thầy tế lễ của Ðức Giê-hô-va.

²¹Abiathar told David that Saul had slain Yahweh’s priests.

²²Ða-vít đáp cùng A-bia-tha rằng: Trong ngày ấy, ta hiểu rõ Ðô -e, người Ê-đôm, có mặt tại đó, chắc sẽ học lại cho Sau-lơ. Ấy tại cớ ta mà cả nhà của cha ngươi bị chết.

²²David said to Abiathar, “I knew on that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I am responsible for the death of all the persons of your father’s house.

²³Hãy ở cùng ta, chớ sợ chi; kẻ nào tìm hại mạng sống ta, cũng tìm hại mạng sống ngươi; ngươi ở cùng ta, thì sẽ bảo toàn.

²³Stay with me, don’t be afraid; for he who seeks my life seeks your life. For with me you shall be in safeguard.”
