1Khỏi ba ngày, khi Ða-vít với những kẻ theo mình đến Xiếc-lác, thì dân A-ma-léc đã loán đến miền nam cùng Xiếc-lác, xông vào Xiếc-lác và đã phóng hỏa nó.
1It happened, when David and his men had come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had made a raid on the South, and on Ziklag, and had struck Ziklag, and burned it with fire,
2Chúng bắt lấy các người nữ và hết thảy kẻ lớn nhỏ ở tại đó. Chúng nó chẳng giết một ai, song khi đi, có dẫn tù hết thảy.
2and had taken captive the women and all who were therein, both small and great. They didn’t kill any, but carried them off, and went their way.
3Khi Ða-vít và những kẻ theo người đến thành, thì thành đã bị lửa cháy; vợ, con trai, con gái của chúng đều đã bị dẫn tù.
3When David and his men came to the city, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken captive.
4Bấy giờ, Ða-vít và những kẻ theo người đều cất tiếng khóc, khóc đến đổi không còn sức khóc nữa.
4Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep.
5Hai người vợ của Ða-vít cũng bị dẫn tù, tức A-hi-nô-am ở Gít-rê-ên, và A-bi-ga-in trước làm vợ của Na-banh tại Cạt-mên.
5David’s two wives were taken captive, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
6Ða-vít bị sự hoạn nạn lớn, vì dân sự toan ném đá người, bởi hết thảy đều có tâm hồn đầy cay đắng, vì cớ mất con trai và con gái mình. Nhưng Ða-vít được sức mạnh nơi Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời mình.
6David was greatly distressed; for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David strengthened himself in Yahweh his God.
7Người nói cùng thầy tế lễ A-bia-tha rằng: Ta xin thầy hãy đem ê-phót cho ta. A-bia-tha đem ê-phót cho Ða-vít.
7David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, “Please bring me here the ephod.” Abiathar brought the ephod to David.
8Ða-vít cầu vấn Ðức Giê-hô-va rằng: Tôi phải đuổi theo đạo binh nầy chăng? Tôi sẽ theo kịp chăng? Ðức Giê-hô-va phán rằng: Hãy khởi đuổi theo nó; quả thật ngươi sẽ theo kịp, và giải cứu hết thảy những kẻ bị bắt.
8David inquired of Yahweh, saying, “If I pursue after this troop, shall I overtake them?” He answered him, “Pursue; for you shall surely overtake them, and shall without fail recover all.”
9Vậy, Ða-vít ra đi cùng sáu trăm người theo mình. Ðến khe Bê-sô, những người mệt mỏi bèn dừng lại.
9So David went, he and the six hundred men who were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those who were left behind stayed.
10Ða-vít cứ đuổi theo với bốn trăm người, vì hai trăm người kia dừng lại, lấy làm mệt nhọc quá, không thể qua khe Bê-sô được.
10But David pursued, he and four hundred men; for two hundred stayed behind, who were so faint that they couldn’t go over the brook Besor.
11Bọn của Ða-vít gặp một người Ê-díp-tô trong đồng ruộng, bèn dẫn đến cùng Ða-vít. Người ta cho người nầy bánh ăn nước uống;
11They found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he ate; and they gave him water to drink.
12cũng ban cho người ăn một cái bánh trái vả khô và hai bánh nho khô. Người ăn, bèn được hồi sức lại; vì trong ba ngày đêm người không ăn, không uống chi hết.
12They gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins. when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him; for he had eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights.
13Ða-vít hỏi người rằng: Ngươi ở với ai? và ở đâu đến? Người thưa rằng: Tôi là một người Ê-díp-tô tuổi trẻ, làm tôi tớ của một người A-ma-léc; chủ tôi bỏ tôi ba ngày rồi, vì tôi đau.
13David asked him, “To whom do you belong? Where are you from?” He said, “I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me, because three days ago I fell sick.
14Chúng tôi có loán đến đất miền nam của dân Kê-rê-thít, địa phận Giu-đa, và đến phía nam Ca-lép, và chúng tôi đã đốt Xiếc-lác.
14We made a raid on the South of the Cherethites, and on that which belongs to Judah, and on the South of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire.”
15Ða-vít hỏi: Ngươi khứng dẫn ta đến cơ binh nầy chăng? Người đó thưa rằng: Hãy chỉ danh Ðức Chúa Trời mà thề cùng tôi rằng ông sẽ chẳng giết tôi, hoặc nộp tôi cho chủ tôi, thì tôi sẽ dẫn ông đến cơ binh đó.
15David said to him, “Will you bring me down to this troop?” He said, “Swear to me by God that you will neither kill me, nor deliver me up into the hands of my master, and I will bring you down to this troop.”
16Người Ê-díp-tô dẫn họ đến; họ thấy dân A-ma-léc tràn ra khắp xứ, ăn uống và chơi giỡn, vì cớ của cướp rất nhiều mà chúng nó đã đoạt lấy ở trong xứ Phi-li-tin và trong xứ Giu-đa.
16When he had brought him down, behold, they were spread around over all the ground, eating, drinking, and dancing, because of all the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.
17Ða-vít đánh chúng nó từ tảng sáng ngày đó cho đến chiều ngày sau; trừ ra bốn trăm người trai trẻ cỡi lạc đà chạy trốn, thì chẳng một ai thoát khỏi.
17David struck them from the twilight even to the evening of the next day. Not a man of them escaped from there, except four hundred young men, who rode on camels and fled.
18Ða-vít thâu lại mọi vật dân A-ma-léc đã cướp lấy, và cũng giải cứu hai vợ mình nữa.
18David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken; and David rescued his two wives.
19Chẳng thiếu một ai, hoặc nhỏ hay lớn, hoặc gái hay trai, hoặc là một phần hóa tài nào mà dân A-ma-léc đã cướp lấy: Ða-vít đem về hết thảy.
19There was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor anything that they had taken to them. David brought back all.
20Người cũng bắt lại bò và chiên. Quân lính của Ða-vít đi đầu bầy nầy, mà nói rằng: Nầy là của Ða-vít bắt được.
20David took all the flocks and the herds, which they drove before those other livestock, and said, “This is David’s spoil.”
21Ða-vít trở về cùng hai trăm người trước kia bị mệt nhọc quá, theo người không nổi, mà người ta đã để lại gần bên khe Bê-sô. Hai trăm người ấy đi tới đón Ða-vít và đạo binh theo người. Ða-vít lại gần, hỏi chúng mạnh giỏi chăng.
21David came to the two hundred men, who were so faint that they could not follow David, whom also they had made to stay at the brook Besor; and they went forth to meet David, and to meet the people who were with him. When David came near to the people, he greeted them.
22Nhưng hết thảy kẻ hung ác, kẻ côn đồ ở trong bọn Ða-vít cất tiếng nói rằng: Bởi vì chúng nó không đi cùng chúng ta, chúng ta sẽ không nhường cho chúng nó một phần của cải nào mà chúng ta đã lấy được, chỉ trả lại vợ và con của mỗi người mà thôi. Chúng nó hãy dẫn họ mà đi đi!
22Then all the wicked men and base fellows, of those who went with David, answered and said, “Because they didn’t go with us, we will not give them anything of the spoil that we have recovered, except to every man his wife and his children, that he may lead them away, and depart.”
23Nhưng Ða-vít đáp rằng; Hỡi anh em, chớ làm như vậy về vật mà Ðức Giê-hô-va đã ban cho chúng ta; Ngài đã gìn giữ ta, phó cho ta đạo binh đã đến đánh chúng ta.
23Then David said, “You shall not do so, my brothers, with that which Yahweh has given to us, who has preserved us, and delivered the troop that came against us into our hand.
24Vậy, ai theo lời định ước của các ngươi được? Phần của kẻ ra trận và phần của kẻ giữ đồ vật phải bằng nhau; chúng sẽ chia cho nhau vậy.
24Who will listen to you in this matter? For as his share is who goes down to the battle, so shall his share be who tarries by the baggage: they shall share alike.”
25Kể từ ngày ấy, Ða-vít lập điều đó làm luật và lệ trong Y-sơ-ra-ên, hãy còn đến ngày nay.
25It was so from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel to this day.
26Vậy, Ða-vít trở về Xiếc-lác và gởi một phần của cướp cho các trưởng lão Giu-đa, tức là bạn hữu người, mà nói rằng: Nầy là một lễ vật cho các ông do của cướp lấy nơi kẻ thù nghịch Ðức Giê-hô-va.
26When David came to Ziklag, he sent of the spoil to the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, “Behold, a present for you of the spoil of the enemies of Yahweh.”
27Người gởi cho những người ở Bê-tên, Ra-mốt, miền Nam, Giạt-thia
27He sent it to those who were in Bethel, and to those who were in Ramoth of the South, and to those who were in Jattir,
28cho những người ở A-rô -e, Síp-mốt, Ê-thê-mô-a,
28and to those who were in Aroer, and to those who were in Siphmoth, and to those who were in Eshtemoa,
29cho những người ở Ra-canh và ở các thành dân Giê-rách-mê-lít, cho người ở các thành Kê-nít,
29and to those who were in Racal, and to those who were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, and to those who were in the cities of the Kenites,
30cho người ở Họt-ma, Bọt-a-san, A-tát,
30and to those who were in Hormah, and to those who were in Borashan, and to those who were in Athach,
31Hếp-rôn, và cho khắp mọi miền nào Ða-vít đã đi ngang qua với đạo binh mình.
31and to those who were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men used to stay.
