¹Người Ki-ri-át-Giê-a-rim đến thỉnh hòm của Ðức Giê-hô-va, đem vào nhà A-bi-na-đáp, ở trên gò nổng, rồi biệt riêng ta Ê-lê-a-sa, con trai người, đặng coi giữ hòm của Ðức Giê-hô-va.

¹The men of Kiriath Jearim came, and fetched up the ark of Yahweh, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of Yahweh.

²Hòm của Ðức Giê-hô-va để tại Ki-ri-át-Giê-a-rim lâu ngày, đến đỗi trải qua hai mươi năm, cả nhà Y-sơ-ra-ên đều than nhớ Ðức Giê-hô-va;

²It happened, from the day that the ark stayed in Kiriath Jearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after Yahweh.

³Bấy giờ, Sa-mu-ên nói cùng cả nhà Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng: Nếu các ngươi thật hết lòng trở lại cùng Ðức Giê-hô-va, thì khá cất khỏi giữa các ngươi những thần lạ và tượng Át-tạt-tê, hết lòng theo Ðức Giê-hô-va, chỉ phục sự một mình Ngài mà thôi. Ngài ắt sẽ giải cứu các ngươi khỏi tay dân Phi-li-tin.

³Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you do return to Yahweh with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts to Yahweh, and serve him only; and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.”

⁴Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên bèn dẹp những hình tượng của Ba-anh và của Át-tạt-tê, rồi phục sự một mình Ðức Giê-hô-va mà thôi.

⁴Then the children of Israel removed the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and served Yahweh only.

⁵Ðoạn, Sa-mu-ên nói: Hãy nhóm hiệp cả Y-sơ-ra-ên tại Mích-ba, ta sẽ cầu Ðức Giê-hô-va giùm cho các ngươi.

⁵Samuel said, “Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray for you to Yahweh.”

⁶Chúng Hội hiệp tại Mích-ba, múc nước và đổ ra trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va. Trong ngày đó chúng cữ ăn và, mà rằng: Chúng tôi có phạm tội cùng Ðức Giê-hô-va. Sa-mu-ên đoán xét dân Y-sơ-ra-ên tại Mích-ba.

⁶They gathered together to Mizpah, and drew water, and poured it out before Yahweh, and fasted on that day, and said there, “We have sinned against Yahweh.” Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah.

⁷Khi dân Phi-li-tin đã hay rằng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên hội hiệp tại Mích-ba, thì các quan trưởng của chúng nó lên đánh Y-sơ-ra-ên. Nghe tin này, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên run sợ trước mặt dân Phi-li-tin,

⁷When the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together at Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. When the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.

⁸nói cùng Sa-mu-ên rằng: Xin chớ vì chúng tôi mà ngừng kêu cầu Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời chúng tôi, để Ngài giải cứu chúng tôi khỏi tay dân Phi-li-tin.

⁸The children of Israel said to Samuel, “Don’t cease to cry to Yahweh our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.”

⁹Sa-mu-ên bắt một con chiên con còn bú, dâng nó làm của lễ thiêu cho Ðức Giê-hô-va. Ðoạn, người vì Y-sơ-ra-ên cầu khẩn Ðức Giê-hô-va; Ðức Giê-hô-va bèn nhậm lời.

⁹Samuel took a suckling lamb, and offered it for a whole burnt offering to Yahweh: and Samuel cried to Yahweh for Israel; and Yahweh answered him.

¹⁰Trong lúc Sa-mu-ên dâng của lễ thiêu, dân Phi-li-tin đến gần đặng giao chiến cùng Y-sơ-ra-ên. Nhưng trong ngày đó Ðức Giê-hô-va khiến sấm sét nổ vang trên dân Phi-li-tin, làm cho thua vỡ chạy, và chúng nó bị đánh bại trước mặt Y-sơ-ra-ên.

¹⁰As Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel; but Yahweh thundered with a great thunder on that day on the Philistines, and confused them; and they were struck down before Israel.

¹¹Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên từ Mích-ba ra, đuổi theo dân Phi-li-tin, và đánh chúng nó cho đến dưới Bết-cạt.

¹¹The men of Israel went out of Mizpah, and pursued the Philistines, and struck them, until they came under Beth Kar.

¹²Bấy giờ, Sa-mu-ên lấy một hòn đá dựng lên giữa khoảng Mích-ba và Sen, đặt tên là Ê-bên-Ê-xe. Vì người nói rằng: Ðức Giê-hô-va đã cứu giúp chúng tôi đến bây giờ.

¹²Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, “Ebenezer” means “stone of help.” saying, “Yahweh helped us until now.”

¹³Dân Phi-li-tin bị bắt phục; chẳng còn xâm lấn địa phận của Y-sơ-ra-ên nữa. Trọn đời Sa-mu-ên, tay của Ðức Giê-hô-va nhận trên dân Phi-li-tin.

¹³So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more within the border of Israel. The hand of Yahweh was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.

¹⁴Các thành mà dân Phi-li-tin đã chiếm lấy của Y-sơ-ra-ên, từ Éc-rôn đến Gát, đều được trả lại cho Y-sơ-ra-ên; và Y-sơ-ra-ên giải thoát địa hạt các thành ấy khỏi tay dân Phi-li-tin. Bèn có sự hòa bình giữa Y-sơ-ra-ên và dân A-mô-rít.

¹⁴The cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even to Gath; and Israel recovered its border out of the hand of the Philistines. There was peace between Israel and the Amorites.

¹⁵Sa-mu-ên làm quan xét cho Y-sơ-ra-ên trọn đời mình.

¹⁵Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

¹⁶Mỗi năm người tuần hành khắp Bê-tên, Ghinh-ganh, và Mích-ba, mà đoán xét dân sự trong các thành ấy.

¹⁶He went from year to year in circuit to Bethel and Gilgal, and Mizpah; and he judged Israel in all those places.

¹⁷Ðoạn, người trở về Ra-ma, là nơi có nhà người. Ở Ra-ma người cũng đoán xét Y-sơ-ra-ên, và lập một bàn thờ cho Ðức Giê-hô-va tại đó.

¹⁷His return was to Ramah, for there was his house; and there he judged Israel: and he built there an altar to Yahweh.
