¹Thần Ðức Chúa Trời cảm động A-xa-ria, con trai của Ô-đết: người đi ra đón A-sa, mà nói với người rằng:

¹The Spirit of God came on Azariah the son of Oded:

²Hỡi A-sa, cả Giu-đa, và Bên-gia-min, hãy nghe lời ta: Các ngươi theo Ðức Giê-hô-va chừng nào, thì Ðức Giê-hô-va ở với các ngươi chừng nấy; nếu các ngươi tìm Ngài, ắt sẽ gặp Ngài được; nếu các ngươi lìa bỏ Ngài, thì Ngài sẽ lìa bỏ các ngươi.

²and he went out to meet Asa, and said to him, “Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin! Yahweh is with you, while you are with him; and if you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.

³Ðã lâu ngày, Y-sơ-ra-ên không có Chúa thật, không có thầy tế lễ dạy dỗ, cũng chẳng có luật pháp;

³Now for a long time Israel was without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law.

⁴song trong lúc khốn khó, chúng trở lại cùng Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, mà tìm cầu Ngài, thì lại gặp Ngài đặng.

⁴But when in their distress they turned to Yahweh, the God of Israel, and sought him, he was found by them.

⁵Trong khi ấy, dân của xứ phải bị sự rối loạn nhiều, kẻ ra kẻ vào không được bằng yên.

⁵In those times there was no peace to him who went out, nor to him who came in; but great troubles were on all the inhabitants of the lands.

⁶Nước nầy giày đạp nước kia, thành này giày đạo thành nọ; vì Ðức Chúa Trời lấy đủ thứ khổ nạn làm cho chúng rối loạn.

⁶They were broken in pieces, nation against nation, and city against city; for God troubled them with all adversity.

⁷Song các ngươi hãy mạnh lòng, tay các ngươi chớ nhát sợ, vì việc các ngươi làm sẽ được phần thưởng.

⁷But you be strong, and don’t let your hands be slack; for your work shall be rewarded.”

⁸Khi A-sa đã nghe các lời này và lời tiên tri của tiên tri Ô-đết, thì giục lòng mạnh mẽ, bèn trừ bỏ những thần tượng gớm ghiếc khỏi cả đất Giu-đa và Bên-gia-min, cùng khỏi các thành người đã đoạt lấy trên miền núi Ép-ra-im; người tu bổ lại cái bàn thờ của Ðức Giê-hô-va ở trước hiên cửa Ðức Giê-hô-va.

⁸When Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominations out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from the hill country of Ephraim; and he renewed the altar of Yahweh, that was before the porch of Yahweh.

⁹Người nhóm hiệp hết thảy người Giu-đa, người Bên-gia-min, và kẻ khách thuộc về chi phái Ép-ra-im, Ma-na-se, và Si-mê-ôn, vẫn kiều ngụ với chúng; vì có nhiều người Y-sơ-ra-ên khi thấy rằng Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của A-sa ở cùng người, thì đều về đằng người.

⁹He gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and those who lived with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that Yahweh his God was with him.

¹⁰Tháng ba năm mười lăm đời A-sa, chúng nhóm hiệp tại Giê-ru-sa-lem;

¹⁰So they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.

¹¹nhằm ngày ấy họ lấy trong các súc vật mình đã đoạt được dẫn về bảy trăm con bò đực và bảy ngàn con chiên mà tế lễ Ðức Giê-hô-va.

¹¹They sacrificed to Yahweh in that day, of the spoil which they had brought, seven hundred head of cattle and seven thousand sheep.

¹²Chúng toan ước nhau hết lòng hết ý tìm kiếm Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của tổ phụ mình,

¹²They entered into the covenant to seek Yahweh, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and with all their soul;

¹³và hễ ai không tìm kiếm Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, thì sẽ bị xử tử vô luận nhỏ hay lớn, nam hay nữ.

¹³and that whoever would not seek Yahweh, the God of Israel, should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.

¹⁴Chúng cất tiếng lớn mà thề cùng Ðức Giê-hô-va, reo mừng, thổi kèn, thổi còi.

¹⁴They swore to Yahweh with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets.

¹⁵Cả Giu-đa đều vui mừng về lời thề ấy, vì chúng hết lòng mà phát thề, và hết ý tìm cầu Ðức Giê-hô-va; rồi chúng tìm gặp Ngài đặng. Ðức Giê-hô-va bèn ban cho chúng được bình an bốn phía.

¹⁵All Judah rejoiced at the oath; for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and Yahweh gave them rest all around.

¹⁶Vả lại, vì Ma-a-ca, mẹ vua A-sa lột chức thái hậu của bà, đánh đổ hình tượng ấy và nghiền nát đi, rồi thiêu đốt trong trũng Xết-rôn.

¹⁶Also Maacah, the mother of Asa the king, he removed from being queen, because she had made an abominable image for an Asherah; and Asa cut down her image, and made dust of it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.

¹⁷Song các nơi cao không phá dỡ khỏi Y-sơ-ra-ên; dầu vậy, lòng A-sa vẫn trọn lành cả đời người.

¹⁷But the high places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.

¹⁸Người đem vào đền của Ðức Giê-hô-va các vật thánh của cha người, và những vật mà chính mình người đã biệt riêng ra thánh, hoặc vàng, hoặc bạc, hay là những khí dụng.

¹⁸He brought into God’s house the things that his father had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.

¹⁹Chẳng có giặc giã cho đến năm thứ ba mươi lăm đời A-sa.

¹⁹There was no more war to the five and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa.
