¹Năm thứ hai đời Giô-ách, con trai Giô-a-cha, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, thì A-ma-xia, con trai Giô-ách, vua Giu-đa, lên ngôi.

¹In the second year of Joash son of Joahaz king of Israel began Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah to reign.

²Người được hai mươi lăm tuổi, khi tức vị vua, và cai trị hai mươi chín năm tại Giê-ru-sa-lem. Mẹ người tên là Giê-hoa-đan, quê ở Giê-ru-sa-lem.

²He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem.

³Người làm điều thiện trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, song chẳng như Ða-vít, tổ tiên người người làm theo mọi điều của Giô-ách, cha mình đã làm.

³He did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, yet not like David his father: he did according to all that Joash his father had done.

⁴Dầu vậy, người không dỡ các nơi cao đi; dân sự cứ tế lễ và xông hương trên các nơi cao ấy.

⁴However the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

⁵Vừa khi nước người được vững chắc, người bèn xử tử những tôi tớ đã giết vua cha mình.

⁵It happened, as soon as the kingdom was established in his hand, that he killed his servants who had slain the king his father:

⁶Nhưng người không xử tử con cái của kẻ sát nhơn ấy, y theo lời đã chép trong sách luật pháp của Môi-se; trong đó Ðức Giê-hô-va có phán rằng: Người ta sẽ không giết cha thế cho con, cũng sẽ chẳng giết con thế cho cha; mỗi người sẽ chết vì tội lỗi riêng mình.

⁶but the children of the murderers he didn’t put to death; according to that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, as Yahweh commanded, saying, “The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin.”

⁷A-ma-xia giết một muôn quân Ê-đôm tại trong trũng Muối, hãm lấy thành Sê-la, và đặt tên là Giốc-then, hãy còn đến ngày nay.

⁷He killed of Edom in the Valley of Salt ten thousand, and took Sela by war, and called its name Joktheel, to this day.

⁸Ðoạn, A-ma-xia sai sứ giả đến cùng Giô-ách, con trai Giô-a-cha, cháu Giê-hu, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, mà nói rằng: Hãy đến, để chúng ta tranh chiến nhau.

⁸Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come, let us look one another in the face.”

⁹Giô-ách, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, sai sứ trả lời lại với A-ma-xia, vua Giu-đa, mà rằng: Cây gai tại Li-ban sai nói với cây hương nam cũng ở Li-ban, mà rằng: Hãy gả con gái ngươi làm vợ con trai ta. Nhưng có thú rừng của Li-ban đi ngang qua, giày đạp cây gai ấy dưới chơn.

⁹Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, “The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son as wife. Then a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by, and trampled down the thistle.

¹⁰Ngươi đã đánh dân Ê-đôm và lòng ngươi đầy kiêu ngạo. Khá hưởng vinh hiển, và ở lại trong nhà ngươi; cớ sao ngươi muốn gây cho mình mắc tai vạ, khiến cho ngươi và Giu-đa bị hư hại?

¹⁰You have indeed struck Edom, and your heart has lifted you up. Enjoy the glory of it, and stay at home; for why should you meddle to your harm, that you should fall, even you, and Judah with you?’”

¹¹A-ma-xia không muốn nghe Giô-ách. Vậy, Giô-ách, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, bèn đi lên, rồi người và A-ma-xia, vua Gi-đa, giao chiến nhau tại Bết-Sê-mết, trong xứ Giu-đa.

¹¹But Amaziah would not listen. So Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah.

¹²Quân Giu-đa bèn chạy trốn, mỗi người về trại mình.

¹²Judah was defeated by Israel; and they fled every man to his tent.

¹³Tại Bết-Sê-mết, Giô-ách, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, bắt A-ma-xia vua Giu-đa, con trai Giô-ách cháu A-cha-xia; đoạn đi đến Giê-ru-sa-lem, phá vách thành từ cửa Ép-ra-im cho đến cửa Góc, một khúc dài bốn trăm thước.

¹³Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth Shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

¹⁴Người đoạt lấy những vàng, bạc, và mọi khí dụng ở trong đền thờ của Ðức Gie-hô-va, và những bửu vật của đền vua; người cũng lấy kẻ cầm làm tin, rồi trở về Sa-ma-ri.

¹⁴He took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of Yahweh, and in the treasures of the king’s house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.

¹⁵Các chuyện khác của Giô-ách những công việc người làm, sự mạnh dạn người, cuộc chiến trận của người với A-ma-xia, vua Giu-đa, đều đã chép trong sử ký về các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên.

¹⁶Giô-ách an giấc cùng các tổ phụ người, và được chôn tại Sa-ma-ri; rồi Giê-rô-bô-am, con trai người, kế vị người.

¹⁶Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his place.

¹⁷A-ma-xia, con trai Giô-ách, vua Giu-đa, còn sống mười lăm năm, sau khi Giô-ách, con trai Giô-a-cha, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên, đã băng hà.

¹⁷Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

¹⁹Tại Giê-ru-sa-lem có kẻ phản nghịch với người; người bèn trốn đến La-ki. Nhưng người ta sai rượt theo người tại đó.

¹⁹They made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish: but they sent after him to Lachish, and killed him there.

²⁰Ðoạn, có người chở thây người trên ngựa đến Giê-ru-sa-lem, và chôn người chung cùng các tổ phụ người, tại thành Ða-vít.

²⁰They brought him on horses; and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.

²¹Cả dân Giu-đa bèn lập A-xa-ria làm vua thế cho A-ma-xia, cha người; tuổi người đã mười sáu.

²¹All the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the place of his father Amaziah.

²²Sau khi vua cha an giấc cùng các tổ phụ mình, người lại xây Ê-lát, và khôi phục thành ấy về dưới quyền Giu-đa.

²²He built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.

²³Năm thứ mười lăm đời A-ma-xia, con trai Giô-ách, vua Giu-đa, thì Giê-rô-bô-am, con trai Giô-ách, lên ngôi làm vua Y-sơ-ra-ên tại Sa-ma-ri. Người cai trị bốn mươi bốn năm.

²³In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria for forty-one years.

²⁴Người làm điều ác trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, chẳng từ bỏ tội lỗi của Giê-rô-bô-am, con trai Nê-bát, đã gây cho Y-sơ-ra-ên phạm tội.

²⁴He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh: he didn’t depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin.

²⁵Người khôi phục bờ cõi Y-sơ-ra-ên từ nơi giáp Ha-mát cho đến biển đồng bằng, theo như lời Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên đã phán bởi miệng tiên tri Giô-na, tôi tớ Ngài, là con trai A-mi-tai, ở tại Gát-Hê-phe.

²⁵He restored the border of Israel from the entrance of Hamath to the sea of the Arabah, according to the word of Yahweh, the God of Israel, which he spoke by his servant Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was of Gath Hepher.

²⁶Vả, Ðức Giê-hô-va đã thấy Y-sơ-ra-ên bị gian nan rất cay đắng; vì trong Y-sơ-ra-ên chẳng còn ai tự do, hoặc nô lệ nữa, cũng chẳng có ai tiếp cứu Y-sơ-ra-ên.

²⁶For Yahweh saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter; for there was none shut up nor left at large, neither was there any helper for Israel.

²⁷Ðức Giê-hô-va không có phán rằng Ngài sẽ xóa danh Y-sơ-ra-ên khỏi dưới trời, bèn cậy Giê-rô-bô-am, con trai Giô-ách, mà giải cứu họ.

²⁷Yahweh didn’t say that he would blot out the name of Israel from under the sky; but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.

²⁸Các chuyện khác của Giê-rô-bô-am, những công việc người, sự mạnh dạn người, thể nào người chiến trận và khôi phục lại cho Y-sơ-ra-ên Ða-mách và Ha-mát trước đã phục Giu-đa, mọi việc ấy đều đã chép trong sử ký về các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên.

²⁸Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which had belonged to Judah, for Israel, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

²⁹Giê-rô-bô-am an giấc cùng các tổ phụ người, là các vua Y-sơ-ra-ên; rồi Xa-cha-ri, con trai người, kế vị người.

²⁹Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zechariah his son reigned in his place.
