¹Ê-li-sê bèn nói rằng: Hãy nghe lời của Ðức Giê-hô-va: Ðức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Ngày mai, tại giờ này, nơi cửa thành Sa-ma-ri, một đấu bột lọc sẽ bán một siếc lơ, và hai đấu lúa mạch sẽ bán một siếc lơ.

¹Elisha said, “Hear the word of Yahweh. Thus says Yahweh, ‘Tomorrow about this time a measure of fine flour will be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.’”

²Quan cai nâng đỡ vua, đáp với người Ðức Chúa Trời rằng: Dầu cho Ðức Giê-hô-va mở các cửa sổ trên trời, điều đó há có được sao? Ê-li-sê đáp: Chính mắt ngươi sẽ thấy, nhưng ngươi không đặng ăn đến.

²Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, “Behold, if Yahweh made windows in heaven, could this thing be?” He said, “Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but shall not eat of it.”

³Tại cửa thành có bốn người phung nói với nhau rằng: Chúng ta ngồi đây đến chừng chết mà làm chi?

³Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate. They said one to another, “Why do we sit here until we die?

⁴Nếu chúng ta nhất định vào thành, thì ở đó có đói kém, và chúng ta sẽ chết đói: bằng chúng ta cứ ngồi đây, thì chúng ta cũng sẽ chết. Vậy, chúng ta hãy qua trại quân Sy-ri: Nếu họ dung thứ ta, thì ta sẽ sống; bằng họ giết đi, dẫu thế nào, chúng ta cũng sẽ chết đó thôi.

⁴If we say, ‘We will enter into the city,’ then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there. If we sit still here, we also die. Now therefore come, and let us surrender to the army of the Syrians. If they save us alive, we will live; and if they kill us, we will only die.”

⁵Vậy, lúc chạng vạng, các người phung chổi dậy đặng đi đến trại quân của sân Sy-ri; khi tới đầu trại quân, họ chẳng thấy ai ở đó hết.

⁵They rose up in the twilight, to go to the camp of the Syrians. When they had come to the outermost part of the camp of the Syrians, behold, there was no man there.

⁶Vì Chúa đã khiến trại quân Sy-ri nghe tiếng xe, ngựa và tiếng đạo binh lớn; nên nỗi dân Sy-ri nói với nhau rằng: Kìa, vua Y-sơ-ra-ên đã mướn vua dân Hê-tít và vua Ê-díp-tô đặng hãm đánh chúng ta.

⁶For the Lord The word translated “Lord” is “Adonai.” had made the army of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great army: and they said one to another, Behold, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come on us.

⁷Chúng liền chổi dậy, chạy trốn lúc chạng vạng, bỏ các trại, ngựa, và lừa mình, để trại quân mình như cũ; chúng trốn đặng cứu mạng sống mình.

⁷Therefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their donkeys, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.

⁸Khi các người phung kia đến đầu trại quân, bèn vào trong một trại, ăn và uống; đoạn họ lấy bạc, vàng, và quần áo đem đi giấu. Chúng trở lại, vào trong một trại khác, ở đó, cũng lấy những của cải mà đem đi giấu luôn.

⁸When these lepers came to the outermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and ate and drink, and carried there silver, and gold, and clothing, and went and hid it. Then they came back, and entered into another tent, and carried there also, and went and hid it.

⁹Bấy giờ, họ bèn nói với nhau rằng: Chúng ta làm chẳng phải; ngày nay là ngày có tin lành, và chúng ta nín lặng sao! Nếu chúng ta đợi đến rạng đông, thì sự hình phạt chắc sẽ lâm vào chúng ta. Vậy, ta hãy đi báo tin này cho nhà vua.

⁹Then they said one to another, “We aren’t doing right. This day is a day of good news, and we keep silent. If we wait until the morning light, punishment will overtake us. Now therefore come, let us go and tell the king’s household.”

¹⁰Chúng liền đi, gọi quân canh cửa thành, thuật cho họ rằng: Chúng tôi có đi đến trại quân Sy-ri, thấy chẳng có ai hết, cũng không nghe tiếng người nào; chỉ thấy những ngựa và lừa đương cột và những trại bỏ lại như cũ.

¹⁰So they came and called to the porter of the city; and they told them, saying, “We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but the horses tied, and the donkeys tied, and the tents as they were.”

¹¹Quân canh cửa bèn gọi người đi báo tin ấy vào trong đền vua.

¹¹He called the porters; and they told it to the king’s household within.

¹²Vua chổi dậy ban đêm, nói với các tôi tớ mình rằng: Ta sẽ bày tỏ cho các ngươi điều dân Sy-ri toan làm cho chúng ta. Chúng nó biết chúng ta đói nên chi họ đã ra khỏi trại quân mình đặng phục trong đồng. Chúng nó đã nói nhau rằng: Khi dân Y-sơ-ra-ên ra khỏi thành, chúng ta sẽ bắt sống chúng nó, rồi chúng ta sẽ vào trong thành.

¹²The king arose in the night, and said to his servants, “I will now show you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we are hungry. Therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, ‘When they come out of the city, we shall take them alive, and get into the city.’”

¹³Một người tôi tớ của vua thưa rằng: Kìa, ngựa còn sót lại cũng hao mòn như đoàn dân Y-sơ-ra-ên còn lại ở trong thành; về sau nó quả sẽ đồng số phận cùng đoàn dân đông đã chết mất. Vì vậy, ta hãy truyền lịnh cho người nào bắt năm con ngựa trong số còn lại đặng đi dò thám.

¹³One of his servants answered, “Please let some take five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city. Behold, they are like all the multitude of Israel who are left in it. Behold, they are like all the multitude of Israel who are consumed. Let us send and see.”

¹⁴Vậy, chúng lấy hai cái xe thắng ngựa vào, rồi vua sai người đi theo đạo quân Sy-ri, mà rằng: Hãy đi xem.

¹⁴They took therefore two chariots with horses; and the king sent after the army of the Syrians, saying, “Go and see.”

¹⁵Chúng đi theo họ cho đến Giô-đanh, thấy khắp dọc đường đầy những quần áo và đồ đạc mà quân Sy-ri đã quăng trong lúc chạy trốn hối hả. Các sứ giả trở về thuật lại cho vua hay.

¹⁵They went after them to the Jordan; and behold, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. The messengers returned, and told the king.

¹⁶Dân sự bèn kéo ra, cướp lấy trại quân Sy-ri, đến đỗi một đấu bột lọc bán một siếc lơ, và hai đấu lúc mạch cũng bán một siếc lơ, y như lời Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phán.

¹⁶The people went out, and plundered the camp of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of Yahweh.

¹⁷Vua cắt quan cai nâng đỡ mình canh giữ cửa thành; nhưng dân chúng đạp dẹp người tại nơi cửa thành, và người chết, y như người của Ðức Chúa Trời đã nói trước khi vua đến kiếm người.

¹⁷The king appointed the captain on whose hand he leaned to be in charge of the gate: and the people trod on him in the gate, and he died as the man of God had said, who spoke when the king came down to him.

¹⁸Vả lại, việc xảy ra như lời người của Ðức Chúa Trời đã nói với vua rằng: Ngày mai, tại giờ này, nơi cửa thành Sa-ma-ri, hai đấu lúa mạch sẽ bán một siếc lơ, và một đấu bột lọc cũng bán một siếc lơ;

¹⁸It happened, as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, “Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel, shall be tomorrow about this time in the gate of Samaria”;

¹⁹rồi quan cai có đáp với người của Ðức Chúa Trời rằng: Dẫu cho Ðức Giê-hô-va mở các cửa sổ trên trời, điều đó há có được sao? Ê-li-sê bèn tiếp rằng: Mắt ngươi sẽ thấy điều đó, song ngươi không ăn đến.

¹⁹and that captain answered the man of God, and said, “Now, behold, if Yahweh should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be?” and he said, “Behold, you shall see it with your eyes, but shall not eat of it.”

²⁰Ấy là điều xảy đến; vì dân chúng đạp dẹp người dưới chơn tại cửa thành, và người chết.

²⁰It happened like that to him; for the people trod on him in the gate, and he died.
