¹When Saul’s son heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, his hands became feeble, and all the Israelites were troubled.

²Vả, con trai Sau-lơ có hai đội trưởng, một người tên là Ba-a-na, một người tên là Rê-cáp: hai người là con trai của Rim-môn ở Bê-ê-rốt về chi phái Bên-gia-min,

²Saul’s son had two men who were captains of bands: the name of the one was Baanah, and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin (for Beeroth also is reckoned to Benjamin:

³mặc dầu chúng đã chạy trốn nơi Ghi-tha-im, là nơi chúng ở cho đến ngày nay.

³and the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and have lived as foreigners there until this day).

⁴Giô-na-than, con trai của Sau-lơ, có một con trai bại chơn: khi tin Sau-lơ và Giô-na-than thác ở Gít-rê-ên thấu đến, thì nó đã được năm tuổi. Vú nó đem nó chạy trốn; trong cơn lật đật trốn, nó té, nên nỗi nó trở nên què. Tên nó là Mê-phi-bô-sết.

⁴Now Jonathan, Saul’s son, had a son who was lame of his feet. He was five years old when the news came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel; and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it happened, as she made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. His name was Mephibosheth.

⁵Hai con trai của Rim-môn ở Bê-ê-rốt, là Rê-cáp và Ba-a-na, trong lúc trời nắng ban ngày, đi đến nhà Ích-bô-sết, người đương nằm nghỉ trưa.

⁵The sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went, and came about the heat of the day to the house of Ishbosheth, as he took his rest at noon.

⁶Hai người đi tuốt đến giữa nhà, giả đò lấy lúa mì, rồi đâm bụng Ích-bô-sết; đoạn Rê-cáp và Ba-a-na, anh người, trốn đi.

⁶They came there into the midst of the house, as though they would have fetched wheat; and they struck him in the body: and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.

⁷Vậy, hai người đi vào nhà Ích-bô-sết, trong khi người nằm nghỉ trên giường tại phòng ngủ, đánh giết người; đoạn cắt lấy đầu người, rồi bắt đường đồng bằng mà đi trọn đêm.

⁷Now when they came into the house, as he lay on his bed in his bedroom, they struck him, and killed him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and went by the way of the Arabah all night.

⁸Hai người đem đầu Ích-bô-sết về Hếp-rôn, dâng cho vua Ða-vít, mà rằng: Nầy là đầu của Ích-bô-sết, con trai của Sau-lơ, kẻ thù nghịch vua, vẫn toan hại mạng sống vua; ngày nay Ðức Giê-hô-va đã báo thù Sau-lơ và dòng dõi người cho vua, là chúa tôi.

⁸They brought the head of Ishbosheth to David to Hebron, and said to the king, “Behold, the head of Ishbosheth, the son of Saul, your enemy, who sought your life! Yahweh has avenged my lord the king this day of Saul, and of his seed.”

⁹Nhưng Ða-vít đáp cùng Rê-cáp và Ba-a-na con trai của Rim-môn ở Bê-ê-rốt, mà rằng: Ta chỉ Ðức Giê-hô-va hằng sống, là Ðấng đã cứu ta khỏi các hoạn nạn, mà thề rằng:

⁹David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, “As Yahweh lives, who has redeemed my soul out of all adversity,

¹⁰Ta đã sai bắt kẻ đã đến thuật cho ta hay rằng Sau-lơ đã thác, và tư tưởng rằng mình là một sứ giả đem tin lành; ta đã giết kẻ đó tại Xiếc-lác đặng trả công cho một sự báo tin dường ấy.

¹⁰when someone told me, ‘Behold, Saul is dead,’ thinking to have brought good news, I took hold of him, and killed him in Ziklag, which was the reward I gave him for his news.

¹¹Phương chi những kẻ hung ác đã giết một người lành nằm trên giường tại trong nhà mình! Vậy, ta há chẳng nên đòi huyết người lại nơi tay các ngươi, và diệt các ngươi khỏi đất sao?

¹¹How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house on his bed, shall I not now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?”

¹²Ða-vít bèn truyền lịnh các đầy tớ mình giết hai người đó. Chúng chặt tay và chơn họ, rồi treo thây gần bên ao Hếp-rôn. Ðoạn, chúng lấy đầu của Ích-bô-sết, chôn trong mồ Áp-ne, tại Hếp-rôn.

¹²David commanded his young men, and they killed them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up beside the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbosheth, and buried it in the grave of Abner in Hebron.
