¹Ðức Giê-hô-va đến viếng Sa-ra, theo như lời Ngài đã phán, và làm cho nàng như lời Ngài đã nói.

¹Yahweh visited Sarah as he had said, and Yahweh did to Sarah as he had spoken.

²Sa-ra thọ thai, sanh một con trai cho Áp-ra-ham trong khi tuổi đã già, đúng kỳ Ðức Chúa Trời đã định.

²Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

³Áp-ra-ham đặt tên đứa trai mà Sa-ra đã sanh cho mình là Y-sác.

³Abraham called his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac. Isaac means “He laughs.”

⁴Ðúng tám ngày, Áp-ra-ham làm phép cắt bì cho Y-sác theo như lời Ðức Chúa Trời đã phán dặn.

⁴Abraham circumcised his son, Isaac, when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.

⁵Vả, khi Y-sác ra đời, thì Áp-ra-ham đã được một trăm tuổi.

⁵Abraham was one hundred years old when his son, Isaac, was born to him.

⁶Sa-ra nói rằng: Ðức Chúa Trời làm cho tôi một việc vui cười; hết thảy ai hay được cũng sẽ vui cười về sự của tôi.

⁶Sarah said, “God has made me laugh. Everyone who hears will laugh with me.”

⁷Lại nói rằng: Há ai dám nói với Áp-ra-ham rằng Sa-ra sẽ cho con bú ư? vì tôi đã sanh một đứa trai trong lúc người già yếu rồi.

⁷She said, “Who would have said to Abraham, that Sarah would nurse children? For I have borne him a son in his old age.”

⁸Ðứa trẻ lớn lên, thì thôi bú. Chánh ngày Y-sác thôi bú, Áp-ra-ham bày một tiệc lớn ăn mừng.

⁸The child grew, and was weaned. Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.

⁹Sa-ra thấy đứa trai của A-ga, người Ê-díp-tô, đã sanh cho Áp-ra-ham, cười cợt,

⁹Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking.

¹⁰thì người nói với Áp-ra-ham rằng: Hãy đuổi con đòi với con nó đi đi, vì đứa trai của con đòi nầy sẽ chẳng được kế nghiệp cùng con trai tôi là Y-sác đâu.

¹⁰Therefore she said to Abraham, “Cast out this handmaid and her son! For the son of this handmaid will not be heir with my son, Isaac.”

¹¹Lời nầy lấy làm buồn lòng Áp-ra-ham lắm, vì cớ con trai mình.

¹¹The thing was very grievous in Abraham’s sight on account of his son.

¹²Nhưng Ðức Chúa Trời phán cùng Áp-ra-ham rằng: Ngươi chớ buồn bực vì con trai và con đòi ngươi. Sa-ra nói thể nào, hãy nghe theo tiếng người nói; vì do nơi Y-sác sẽ sanh ra dòng dõi lưu danh ngươi.

¹²God said to Abraham, “Don’t let it be grievous in your sight because of the boy, and because of your handmaid. In all that Sarah says to you, listen to her voice. For from Isaac will your seed be called.

¹³Ta cũng sẽ làm cho đứa trai của con đòi trở nên một dân, vì nó cũng do một nơi ngươi mà ra.

¹³I will also make a nation of the son of the handmaid, because he is your seed.”

¹⁴Áp-ra-ham dậy sớm, lấy bánh và một bầu nước, đưa cho A-ga; để các món đó trên vai nàng, và giao đứa trai cho nàng, rồi đuổi đi. Nàng ra đi, đi dông dài trong đồng vắng Bê -e-Sê-ba.

¹⁴Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread and a bottle of water, and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder; and gave her the child, and sent her away. She departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba.

¹⁵Khi nước trong bầu đã hết, nàng để đứa trẻ dưới một cội cây nhỏ kia,

¹⁵The water in the bottle was spent, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs.

¹⁶đi ngồi đối diện cách xa xa dài chừng một khoảng tên bắn; vì nói rằng: Ôi! tôi nỡ nào thấy đứa trẻ phải chết! Nàng ngồi đối diện đó, cất tiếng la khóc.

¹⁶She went and sat down opposite him, a good way off, about a bow shot away. For she said, “Don’t let me see the death of the child.” She sat over against him, and lifted up her voice, and wept.

¹⁷Ðức Chúa Trời nghe tiếng đứa trẻ khóc, thì thiên sứ của Ðức Chúa Trời từ trên trời kêu nàng A-ga mà phán rằng: Hỡi A-ga! Ngươi có điều gì vậy? Chớ sợ chi, vì Ðức Chúa Trời đã nghe tiếng đứa trẻ ở đâu đó rồi.

¹⁷God heard the voice of the boy. The angel of God called to Hagar out of the sky, and said to her, “What ails you, Hagar? Don’t be afraid. For God has heard the voice of the boy where he is.

¹⁸Hãy đứng dậy đỡ lấy đứa trẻ và giơ tay nắm nó, vì ta sẽ làm cho nó nên một dân lớn.

¹⁸Get up, lift up the boy, and hold him in your hand. For I will make him a great nation.”

¹⁹Ðoạn, Ðức Chúa Trời mở mắt nàng ra; nàng bèn thấy một cái giếng nước, và đi lại múc đầy bầu cho đứa trẻ uống.

¹⁹God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. She went, filled the bottle with water, and gave the boy drink.

²⁰Ðức Chúa Trời vùa giúp đứa trẻ; nó lớn lên, ở trong đồng vắng, có tài bắn cung.

²⁰God was with the boy, and he grew. He lived in the wilderness, and became, as he grew up, an archer.

²¹Nó ở tại trong đồng vắng Pha-ran; mẹ cưới cho nó một người vợ quê ở xứ Ê-díp-tô.

²¹He lived in the wilderness of Paran. His mother took a wife for him out of the land of Egypt.

²²Về thuở đó, vua A-bi-mê-léc và Phi-côn, quan tổng binh mình, nói cùng Áp-ra-ham rằng: Ðức Chúa Trời vùa giúp ngươi trong mọi việc ngươi làm.

²²It happened at that time, that Abimelech and Phicol the captain of his army spoke to Abraham, saying, “God is with you in all that you do.

²³Vậy bây giờ, hãy chỉ danh Ðức Chúa Trời mà thề rằng: Ngươi sẽ chẳng gạt ta, con ta cùng dòng giống ta. Nhưng ngươi sẽ đãi ta và xứ ngươi đương trú ngụ, một lòng tử tế như ta đã đãi ngươi vậy.

²³Now, therefore, swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me, nor with my son, nor with my son’s son. But according to the kindness that I have done to you, you shall do to me, and to the land in which you have lived as a foreigner.”

²⁴Áp-ra-ham đáp rằng: Tôi xin thề.

²⁴Abraham said, “I will swear.”

²⁵Áp-ra-ham phàn nàn cùng vua A-bi-mê-léc về vụ một giếng kia bị đầy tớ người chiếm đoạt.

²⁵Abraham complained to Abimelech because of a water well, which Abimelech’s servants had violently taken away.

²⁶Vua A-bi-mê-léc bèn nói rằng: Ta chẳng hay ai đã làm nên nông nổi đó; chính ngươi chẳng cho ta hay trước; ngày nay ta mới rõ đây mà thôi.

²⁶Abimelech said, “I don’t know who has done this thing. You didn’t tell me, neither did I hear of it, until today.”

²⁷Ðoạn, Áp-ra-ham bắt chiên và bò, dâng cho vua A-bi-mê-léc; rồi hai người kết ước cùng nhau.

²⁷Abraham took sheep and cattle, and gave them to Abimelech. Those two made a covenant.

²⁸Áp-ra-ham lựa để riêng ra bảy con chiên tơ trong bầy;

²⁸Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.

²⁹thì vua A-bi-mê-léc hỏi rằng: Làm chi để bảy con chiên tơ đó riêng ra vậy?

²⁹Abimelech said to Abraham, “What do these seven ewe lambs which you have set by themselves mean?”

³⁰Ðáp rằng: Xin vua hãy nhận lấy bảy con chiên tơ nầy mà chánh tay tôi dâng cho, đặng làm chứng rằng tôi đã đào cái giếng nầy.

³⁰He said, “You shall take these seven ewe lambs from my hand, that it may be a witness to me, that I have dug this well.”

³¹Bởi cớ ấy, nên họ đặt tên chỗ nầy là Bê -e-Sê-ba; vì tại đó hai người đều đã thề nguyện cùng nhau.

³¹Therefore he called that place Beersheba, Beersheba can mean “well of the oath” or “well of seven.” because they both swore there.

³²Vậy, hai người kết ước cùng nhau tại Bê -e-Sê-ba. Ðoạn vua A-bi-mê-léc cùng quan tổng binh Phi-côn đứng dậy, trở về xứ Phi-li-tin.

³²So they made a covenant at Beersheba. Abimelech rose up with Phicol, the captain of his army, and they returned into the land of the Philistines.

³³Áp-ra-ham trồng một cây me tại Bê -e-Sê-ba, và ở đó người cầu khẩn danh Ðức Giê-hô-va, là Ðức Chúa Trời hằng-hữu.

³³Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and called there on the name of Yahweh, the Everlasting God.

³⁴Áp-ra-ham trú ngụ lâu ngày tại xứ Phi-li-tin.

³⁴Abraham lived as a foreigner in the land of the Philistines many days.
