²Ðức Giê-hô-va vạn quân có phán như vầy: Dân nầy nói rằng: Thì giờ chưa đến, tức là thì giờ xây lại nhà Ðức Giê-hô-va.

²“This is what Yahweh of Armies says: These people say, ‘The time hasn’t yet come, the time for Yahweh’s house to be built.’”

³Vậy nên có lời của Ðức Giê-hô-va phán ra bởi đấng tiên tri A-ghê rằng:

³Then the Word of Yahweh came by Haggai, the prophet, saying,

⁴Nay có phải là thì giờ các ngươi ở trong nhà có trần ván, khi nhà nầy hoang vu sao?

⁴“Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies waste?

⁵Vậy bây giờ Ðức Giê-hô-va vạn quân phán như vầy: Các ngươi khá xem xét đường lối mình.

⁵Now therefore this is what Yahweh of Armies says: Consider your ways.

⁶Các ngươi gieo nhiều mà gặt ít; ăn mà không no; uống mà không đủ; mặc mà không ấm; và kẻ nào làm thuê, đựng tiền công mình trong túi lủng.

⁶You have sown much, and bring in little. You eat, but you don’t have enough. You drink, but you aren’t filled with drink. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm, and he who earns wages earns wages to put them into a bag with holes in it.”

⁷Ðức Giê-hô-va vạn quân phán như vầy: Các ngươi khá xem xét đường lối mình.

⁷This is what Yahweh of Armies says: “Consider your ways.

⁸Hãy lên núi, đem gỗ về, và xây nhà nầy, thì ta sẽ lấy nó làm vui lòng, và ta sẽ được sáng danh, Ðức Giê-hô-va phán vậy.

⁸Go up to the mountain, bring wood, and build the house. I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified,” says Yahweh.

⁹Các ngươi trông nhiều mà được ít; các ngươi đem vào nhà, thì ta đã thổi lên trên. Ðức Giê-hô-va vạn quân phán: Ấy là tại làm sao? Ấy là tại nhà ta thì hoang vu, mà các ngươi ai nấy lo xây nhà mình.

⁹“You looked for much, and, behold, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says Yahweh of Armies, “Because of my house that lies waste, while each of you is busy with his own house.

¹⁰Cho nên, vì cớ các ngươi, trời giữ móc lại, và đất giữ bông trái lại.

¹⁰Therefore for your sake the heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholds its fruit.

¹¹Ta đã gọi cơn hạn hán đến trên đất, trên các núi, trên lúa mì, trên rượu mới, trên dầu, và trên sản vật đất sanh ra, trên loài người, trên loài vật, và trên mọi việc tay làm.

¹¹I called for a drought on the land, on the mountains, on the grain, on the new wine, on the oil, on that which the ground brings forth, on men, on livestock, and on all the labor of the hands.”
