⁵But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

⁶Nhưng phải lấy đức tin mà cầu xin, chớ nghi ngờ; vì kẻ hay nghi ngờ giống như sóng biển, bị gió động và đưa đi đây đi đó.

⁶But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed.

⁷Người như thế chớ nên tưởng mình lãnh được vật chi từ nơi Chúa:

⁷For let that man not think that he will receive anything from the Lord.

⁸ấy là một người phân tâm, phàm làm việc gì đều không định.

⁸He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

⁹Anh em nào ở địa vị thấp hèn hãy khoe mình về phần cao trọng mình,

⁹But let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position;

¹⁰kẻ giàu cũng hãy khoe mình về phần đê hèn, vì người sẽ qua đi như hoa cỏ.

¹⁰and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away.

¹¹Mặt trời mọc lên, nắng xẳng, cỏ khô, hoa rụng, sắc đẹp tồi tàn: kẻ giàu cũng sẽ khô héo như vậy trong những việc mình làm.

¹¹For the sun arises with the scorching wind, and withers the grass, and the flower in it falls, and the beauty of its appearance perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in his pursuits.

¹²Phước cho người bị cám dỗ; vì lúc đã chịu nổi sự thử thách rồi, thì sẽ lãnh mão triều thiên của sự sống mà Ðức Chúa Trời đã hứa cho kẻ kính mến Ngài.

¹³Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God can’t be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one.

¹⁴But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.

¹⁵Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death.

¹⁶Hỡi anh em yêu dấu, chớ tự dối mình:

¹⁶Don’t be deceived, my beloved brothers.

¹⁷mọi ân điển tốt lành cùng sự ban cho trọn vẹn đều đến từ nơi cao và bởi Cha sáng láng mà xuống, trong Ngài chẳng có một sự thay đổi, cũng chẳng có bóng của sự biến cải nào.

¹⁷Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow.

¹⁸Ấy chính Ngài theo ý muốn mình, đã dùng lời chân thật sanh chúng ta, hầu cho chúng ta được nên như trái đầu mùa của những vật Ngài dựng nên.

¹⁸Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

¹⁹Hỡi anh em yêu dấu, anh em biết điều đó: người nào cũng phải mau nghe mà chậm nói, chậm giận;

¹⁹So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;

²⁰vì cơn giận của người ta không làm nên sự công bình của Ðức Chúa Trời.

²⁰for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.

²¹Vậy, hãy bỏ đi mọi điều ô uế, và mọi điều gian ác còn lại, đem lòng nhu mì nhận lấy lời đã trồng trong anh em, là lời cứu được linh hồn của anh em.

²¹Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls or, preserve your life. .

²²Hãy làm theo lời, chớ lấy nghe làm đủ mà lừa dối mình.

²²But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves.

²³Vì, nếu có kẻ nghe lời mà không làm theo thì khác nào người kia soi mặt mình trong gương,

²³For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror;

²⁴thấy rồi thì đi, liền quên mặt ra thể nào.

²⁴for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

²⁵Nhưng kẻ nào xét kĩ luật pháp trọn vẹn, là luật pháp về sự tự do, lại bền lòng suy gẫm lấy, chẳng phải nghe rồi quên đi, nhưng hết lòng giữ theo phép tắc nó, thì kẻ đó sẽ tìm được phước trong sự mình vâng lời.

²⁵But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom, and continues, not being a hearer who forgets, but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does.

²⁶Nhược bằng có ai tưởng mình là tin đạo, mà không cầm giữ lưỡi mình, nhưng lại lừa dối lòng mình, thì sự tin đạo của người hạng ấy là vô ích.

²⁶If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.

²⁷Sự tin đạo thanh sạch không vết, trước mặt Ðức Chúa Trời, Cha chúng ta, là thăm viếng kẻ mồ côi, người góa bụa trong cơn khốn khó của nó, và giữ lấy mình cho khỏi sự ô uế của thế gian.

²⁷Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
