¹Sê-đê-kia, con trai Giô-si-a, trị vì thay cho Giê-cô-nia, con trai Giê-hô-gia-kim, vì vua của Ba-by-lôn là Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa đã lập người lên làm vua đất Giu-da.

¹Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned as king, instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

²Nhưng vua cùng bầy tôi và dân sự trong đất đều không nghe những lời mà Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phán bởi miệng tiên tri Giê-rê-mi.

²But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, listened to the words of Yahweh, which he spoke by the prophet Jeremiah.

³Vua Sê-đê-kia sai Giê-hu-can, con trai Sê-lê-mia, và Sô-phô-ni, con trai thầy tế lễ Ma-a-sê-gia, đến cùng tiên tri Giê-rê-mi mà nói rằng: Xin vì chúng tôi cầu Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời chúng ta.

³Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now to Yahweh our God for us.

⁴Bấy giờ Giê-rê-mi còn đang đi lại trong dân sự, chưa bị bỏ tù.

⁴Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people; for they had not put him into prison.

⁵Ðạo binh của Pha-ra-ôn đã ra từ Ê-díp-tô; những người Canh-đê đương vây thành Giê-ru-sa-lem nghe tin đó, thì mở vây khỏi thành ấy.

⁵Pharaoh’s army had come forth out of Egypt; and when the Chaldeans who were besieging Jerusalem heard news of them, they broke up from Jerusalem.

⁶Bấy giờ, có lời Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cho tiên tri Giê-rê-mi rằng:

⁶Then came the word of Yahweh to the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

⁷Giê-hô-va, Ðức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, phán như vầy: Các ngươi khá tâu cùng vua Giu-đa, là người đã sai các ngươi đến hỏi ta, rằng: Nầy, đạo binh của Pha-ra-ôn đã ra cứu các ngươi, thì sẽ lui về đất mình, tức trong Ê-díp-tô.

⁷Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, You shall tell the king of Judah, who sent you to me to inquire of me: Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which has come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.

⁸Những người Canh-đê sẽ trở lại, đánh thành nầy, chiếm lấy, và dùng lửa đốt đi.

⁸The Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city; and they shall take it, and burn it with fire.

⁹Ðức Giê-hô-va phán như vầy: Các ngươi chớ tự dối mình mà rằng: Người Canh-đê chắc sẽ đi khỏi chúng ta; vì chúng nó sẽ không dời khỏi đâu.

⁹Thus says Yahweh, Don’t deceive yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us; for they shall not depart.

¹⁰Dầu các ngươi đánh cả đạo binh của người Canh-đê đến đánh trận nghịch cùng các ngươi, trong chúng nó chỉ còn lại những kẻ bị thương tích, nhưng ai nấy cũng sẽ từ trong trại mình dấy lên mà dùng lửa đốt thành nầy.

¹⁰For though you had struck the whole army of the Chaldeans who fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yes would they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.

¹¹Khi đạo binh người Canh-đê mở vây khỏi thành Giê-ru-sa-lem, vì sự đạo binh Pha-ra-ôn,

¹¹It happened that, when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army,

¹²thì Giê-rê-mi ra khỏi Giê-ru-sa-lem đặng đi trong đất Bên-gia-min, để nhận phần của mình giữa dân đó.

¹²then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to receive his portion there, in the midst of the people.

¹³Nhưng lúc đến cửa Bên-gia-min, thì có người đốc canh tên là Gi-rê-gia, con trai Sê-lê-mia, cháu Ha-na-nia, ở đó; tên nầy bắt tiên tri Giê-rê-mi mà rằng: Ngươi là kẻ hàng đầu người Canh-đê!

¹³When he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he laid hold on Jeremiah the prophet, saying, You are falling away to the Chaldeans.

¹⁴Giê-rê-mi đáp rằng: Nói bướng! ta không hàng đầu người Canh-đê đâu. Nhưng Gi-rê-gia không nghe, cứ bắt Giê-rê-mi mà dắt đến trước mặt các quan trưởng.

¹⁴Then Jeremiah said, It is false; I am not falling away to the Chaldeans. But he didn’t listen to him; so Irijah laid hold on Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.

¹⁵Các quan trưởng giận Giê-rê-mi; bèn đánh đòn và giam trong nhà thơ ký Giô-na-than; vì người ta lấy nhà đó làm cái ngục.

¹⁵The princes were angry with Jeremiah, and struck him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison.

¹⁶Giê-rê-mi bị bỏ trong ngục, trong buồng tối như vậy, và người ở đó lâu ngày.

¹⁶When Jeremiah had come into the dungeon house, and into the cells, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

¹⁷Ðoạn, vua Sê-đê-kia sai đem Giê-rê-mi ra, và hỏi kín người tại trong cung mình, rằng: Ðức Giê-hô-va có phán lời gì chăng? Giê-rê-mi thưa: Có, đoạn tiếp rằng: Vua sẽ bị nộp trong tay vua Ba-by-lôn.

¹⁷Then Zedekiah the king sent, and fetched him: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from Yahweh? Jeremiah said, There is. He said also, You shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

¹⁸Kế đó, Giê-rê-mi nói cùng vua Sê-đê-kia rằng: Tôi có phạm tội gì nghịch cùng vua, bầy tôi của vua, và dân nầy, mà bỏ tù tôi?

¹⁸Moreover Jeremiah said to king Zedekiah, Wherein have I sinned against you, or against your servants, or against this people, that you have put me in prison?

¹⁹Các tiên tri đã nói tiên tri rằng: Vua Ba-by-lôn sẽ không đến đánh các ngươi, đánh đất nầy, thì nay ở đâu?

¹⁹Where now are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?

²⁰Bây giờ, Hỡi vua, chúa tôi, xin hãy nghe, mong rằng lời cầu xin của tôi được vua nhận lấy! Xin chớ giao tôi lại trong nhà thơ ký Giô-na-than, kẻo tôi sẽ chết tại đó.

²⁰Now please hear, my lord the king: please let my supplication be presented before you, that you not cause me to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.

²¹Vua Sê-đê-kia bèn truyền giữ Giê-rê-mi trong nơi hành lang lính canh, mỗi ngày phát cho một chiếc bánh của phố hàng bánh, cho đến chừng bánh trong thành hết trơn. Giê-rê-mi ở trong hành lang lính canh là như vậy.

²¹Then Zedekiah the king commanded, and they committed Jeremiah into the court of the guard; and they gave him daily a loaf of bread out of the bakers’ street, until all the bread in the city was spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.
