¹Người ta cũng bắt thăm cho chi phái Ma-na-se, vì người là con đầu lòng của Giô-sép. Con Ma-ki, con đầu lòng của Ma-na-se, và cha của Ga-la-át, bởi người là chiến sĩ, nên có được xứ Ga-la-át và Ba-san.

¹This was the lot for the tribe of Manasseh, for he was the firstborn of Joseph. As for Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilead and Bashan.

²Người ta bắt thăm cho các con khác của Ma-na-se, tùy theo những họ hàng của chúng: về con cháu A-bi-ê-se, về con cháu Hê-léc, về con cháu Át-ri-ên, về con cháu Si-chem, về con cháu Hê-phe, về con cháu Sê-mi-đa. Ðó là các con trai của Ma-na-se, cháu Giô-sép, tùy theo những họ hàng của chúng.

²So this was for the rest of the children of Manasseh according to their families: for the children of Abiezer, for the children of Helek, for the children of Asriel, for the children of Shechem, for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida: these were the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph according to their families.

³Vả, Xê-lô-phát, con trai của Hê-phe, cháu của Ga-la-át, chắt của Ma-ki, chít của Ma-na-se, không có con trai, chỉ có con gái, tên là Mách-la, Nô-a, Hốt-la, Minh-ca, và Thiệt-sa.

³But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters: and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

⁴Các con gái này đến trước mặt thầy tế lễ Ê-lê-a-sa, trước mặt Giô-suê, con trai Nun, và trước mặt các quan trưởng, mà nói rằng: Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phán cùng Môi-se ban cho chúng tôi một phần sản nghiệp trong anh em chúng tôi. Giô-suê vâng mạng của Ðức Giê-hô-va, bèn ban cho một phần sản nghiệp trong anh em của cha các con gái đó.

⁴They came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, “Yahweh commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brothers.” Therefore according to the commandment of Yahweh he gave them an inheritance among the brothers of their father.

⁵Vậy, mười phần bắt thăm trúng cho Ma-na-se, trừ ra xứ Ga-la-át và Ba-san ở bên kia sông Giô-đanh;

⁵Ten parts fell to Manasseh, besides the land of Gilead and Bashan, which is beyond the Jordan;

⁶vì các con gái Ma-na-se có một phần sản nghiệp tại giữa các con trai người, còn xứ Ga-la-át thuộc về các con trai khác của Ma-na-se.

⁶because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons. The land of Gilead belonged to the rest of the sons of Manasseh.

⁷Giới hạn của Ma-na-se từ A-se đến Mít-mê-thát đối ngang Si-chem, rồi chạy đến Gia-min về lối dân Eân-Tháp-bu-ách.

⁷The border of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethath, which is before Shechem. The border went along to the right hand, to the inhabitants of En Tappuah.

⁸Xứ Tháp-bu-ách thuộc về Ma-na-se; nhưng thành Tháo-bu-ách gần bờ cõi Ma-na-se, thì thuộc về người Ép-ra-im.

⁸The land of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh; but Tappuah on the border of Manasseh belonged to the children of Ephraim.

⁹Từ đó giới hạn chạy xuống phía nam khe Ca-na; các thành đó ở giữa các thành Ma-na-se, đều thuộc về Ép-ra-im. Giới hạn Ma-na-se ở về phía bắc của khe, và giáp biển.

⁹The border went down to the brook of Kanah, southward of the brook. These cities belonged to Ephraim among the cities of Manasseh. The border of Manasseh was on the north side of the brook, and ended at the sea.

¹⁰Phần ở hướng nam thuộc về Ép-ra-im, phần ở hướng bắc thuộc về Ma-na-se, còn biển dùng làm giới hạn; hai phần này giáp A-se về phía bắc, và Y-sa-ca về phía đông.

¹⁰Southward it was Ephraim’s, and northward it was Manasseh’s, and the sea was his border. They reached to Asher on the north, and to Issachar on the east.

¹¹Manasseh had three heights in Issachar, in Asher Beth Shean and its towns, and Ibleam and its towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Endor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns.

¹²Con cháu Ma-na-se chẳng đuổi được dân các thành ấy, vì dân Ca-na-an định ý ở trong xứ đó.

¹²Yet the children of Manasseh couldn’t drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

¹³Nhưng khi dân Y-sơ-ra-ên đã được cường thạnh, bèn bắt dân Ca-na-an phải phục dịch; song chẳng đuổi chúng nó được hết.

¹³It happened, when the children of Israel had grown strong, that they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and didn’t utterly drive them out.

¹⁴Vả, con cháu của Giô-sép nói cùng Giô-suê rằng: Chúng tôi đã thành một dân đông, vì Ðức Giê-hô-va đã ban phước cho chúng tôi đến ngày nay; vậy tại sao làm sao ông ban cho chúng tôi chỉ một phần đất làm sản nghiệp?

¹⁴The children of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, “Why have you given me just one lot and one part for an inheritance, since I am a great people, because Yahweh has blessed me so far?”

¹⁵Giô-suê đáp: Nếu các ngươi đông như vậy, và núi Ép-ra-im rất hẹp cho các ngươi, thì hãy lên khai phá rừng, đặng làm một chỗ ở cho mình trong xứ dân Phê-rê-sít và dân Rê-pha-im.

¹⁵Joshua said to them, “If you are a great people, go up to the forest, and clear land for yourself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the Rephaim; since the hill country of Ephraim is too narrow for you.”

¹⁶Nhưng con cháu Giô-sép đáp rằng: Núi không đủ chỗ cho chúng tôi; còn miền đồng bằng, hết thảy dân Ca-na-an ở đó, dân Bết-Sê-an, và người ở các thành địa hạt nó, luôn những người ở trong trũng Gít-rê-ên, đều có thiết xa.

¹⁶The children of Joseph said, “The hill country is not enough for us. All the Canaanites who dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both those who are in Beth Shean and its towns, and those who are in the valley of Jezreel.”

¹⁷Giô-suê bèn nói cùng nhà Giô-sép, tức là Ép-ra-im và Ma-na-se, mà rằng: Ngươi là một dân đông, có sức lớn, sẽ chẳng lãnh chỉ một phần đất thôi;

¹⁷Joshua spoke to the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, “You are a great people, and have great power. You shall not have one lot only;

¹⁸nhưng núi sẽ thuộc về ngươi; dầu là một cái rừng, ngươi sẽ khai phá nó, và các bờ cõi nó sẽ thuộc về ngươi; vì ngươi sẽ đuổi dân Ca-na-an, mặc dầu chúng nó có thiết xa và là cường thạnh.

¹⁸but the hill country shall be yours. Although it is a forest, you shall cut it down, and it’s farthest extent shall be yours; for you shall drive out the Canaanites, though they have chariots of iron, and though they are strong.”
