¹Khi cả dân đã qua khỏi Giô-đanh rồi, Ðức Giê-hô-va bèn phán cùng Giô-suê rằng:

¹It happened, when all the nation had completely passed over the Jordan, that Yahweh spoke to Joshua, saying,

²Hãy chọn trong dân sự mười hai người, mỗi chi phái một người;

²“Take twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,

³rồi truyền lịnh này cho các người đó: Hãy lấy mười hai hòn đá tại đây giữa sông Giô-đanh, từ nơi chơn những thầy tế lễ đứng vững, rồi đem nó theo, và đặt tại chỗ các ngươi sẽ ngủ ban đêm.

³and command them, saying, ‘Take from out of the middle of the Jordan, out of the place where the priests’ feet stood firm, twelve stones, and carry them over with you, and lay them down in the lodging place, where you will lodge tonight.’”

⁴Vậy, Giô-suê gọi mười hai người mà mình đã chọn trong dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, mỗi chi phái một người,

⁴Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man.

⁵mà truyền rằng: Hãy đi qua trước hòm của Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi tại giữa sông Giô-đanh, rồi mỗi người, theo số chi phái Y-sơ-ra-ên, phải vác một hòn đá trên vai mình,

⁵Joshua said to them, “Pass over before the ark of Yahweh your God into the middle of the Jordan, and each of you pick up a stone and put it on your shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel;

⁶hầu cho điều đó làm một dấu ở giữa các ngươi. Về sau, khi con cháu các ngươi hỏi rằng: Những hòn đá này có nghĩa chi?

⁶that this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask in time to come, saying, ‘What do you mean by these stones?’

⁷thì hãy đáp rằng: Ấy là nước sông Giô-đanh đã rẽ ra trước hòm giao ước của Ðức Giê-hô-va; khi hòm đi ngang qua sông Giô-đanh; thì nước sông bèn rẽ ra; các hòn đá này dùng cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên làm kỷ niệm đời đời.

⁷then you shall tell them, ‘Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of Yahweh. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.’”

⁸Vậy, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên làm theo điều Giô-suê đã biểu, bèn lấy mười hai hòn đá ở giữa sông Giô-đanh, theo số chi phái dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, và đem nó theo cùng mình đến chỗ nào phải ngủ ban đêm, rồi đặt tại đó, y như Ðức Giê-hô-va đã phán dặn Giô-suê.

⁸The children of Israel did as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the middle of the Jordan, as Yahweh spoke to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel; and they carried them over with them to the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

⁹Giô-suê cũng dựng mười hai hòn đá giữa sông Giô-đanh, tại nơi chơn những thầy tế lễ khiêng hòm giao ước đã đứng; các hòn đá ấy hãy còn ở đó cho đến ngày nay.

⁹Joshua set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant stood; and they are there to this day.

¹⁰Những thầy tế lễ khiêng hòm đều đứng giữa sông Giô-đanh cho đến chừng nào đã làm xong mọi việc mà Ðức Giê-hô-va đã dặn biểu Giô-suê truyền lại cho dân sự, theo mạng lịnh mà Môi-se đã truyền cho Giô-suê. Dân sự bèn lật đật đi qua sông.

¹⁰For the priests who bore the ark stood in the middle of the Jordan, until everything was finished that Yahweh commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua; and the people hurried and passed over.

¹¹Khi cả dân sự đã đi qua sông rồi, thì hòm của Ðức Giê-hô-va, và những thầy tế lễ cũng đi qua trước mặt dân sự.

¹¹It happened, when all the people had completely passed over, that the ark of Yahweh passed over, with the priests, in the presence of the people.

¹²Con cháu Ru-bên, con cháu Gát, và phân nửa chi phái Ma-na-se cầm binh khí đi trước dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, y như Môi-se đã dặn biểu họ.

¹²The children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spoke to them.

¹³Có chừng bốn muôn người sắm sửa ra trận, đi qua trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, đến trong đồng bằng Giê-ri-cô, đặng đánh giặc.

¹³About forty thousand men, ready and armed for war passed over before Yahweh to battle, to the plains of Jericho.

¹⁴Ngày đó, Ðức Giê-hô-va khiến Giô-suê được tôn trọng trước mặt cả Y-sơ-ra-ên, và chúng kính sợ người trọn đời người, như đã kính sợ Môi-se vậy.

¹⁴On that day, Yahweh magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.

¹⁵Vả, Ðức Giê-hô-va phán cùng Giô-suê rằng:

¹⁵Yahweh spoke to Joshua, saying,

¹⁶Hãy truyền cho những thầy tế lễ khiêng hòm bảng chứng đi lên khỏi sông Giô-đanh.

¹⁶“Command the priests who bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of the Jordan.”

¹⁷Giô-suê bèn truyền lịnh cho những thầy tế lễ rằng: Hãy đi lên khỏi Giô-đanh.

¹⁷Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, “Come up out of the Jordan!”

¹⁸Khi những thầy tế lễ khiêng hòm giao ước của Ðức Giê-hô-va đã lên khỏi giữa ông, và bàn chơn họ dở lên đặng bước trên đất khô rồi, thì nước sông Giô-đanh trở lại chỗ cũ và chảy tràn ra khắp mé như trước.

¹⁸It happened, when the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of Yahweh had come up out of the middle of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up to the dry ground, that the waters of the Jordan returned to their place, and went over all its banks, as before.

¹⁹Ngày mồng mười tháng giêng, dân sự đi lên khỏi sông Giô-đanh, và đóng trại tại Ghinh-ganh, ở cuối phía đông Giê-ri-cô.

¹⁹The people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, on the east border of Jericho.

²⁰Giô-suê dựng tại Ghinh-ganh mười hai hòn đá mà dân chúng đã lấy dưới sông Giô-đanh.

²⁰Joshua set up those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, in Gilgal.

²¹Ðoạn, người nói cùng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng: Về sau, khi con cháu các ngươi hỏi cha mình rằng: Các hòn đá này có nghĩa gì?

²¹He spoke to the children of Israel, saying, “When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What do these stones mean?’

²²thì các ngươi sẽ dạy con cháu mình mà rằng: Y-sơ-ra-ên đã đi qua sông Giô-đanh trên đất khô,

²²Then you shall let your children know, saying, ‘Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

²³vì Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi đã làm cho sông Giô-đanh bày khô trước mặt các ngươi, cho đến chừng nào các ngươi đã qua khỏi, y như Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi đã làm tại Biển đỏ, khiến cho nó bày khô trước mặt chúng ta, cho đến chừng nào chúng ta đã qua khỏi,

²³For Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you, until you had passed over, as Yahweh your God did to the Red Sea or, Sea of Reeds , which he dried up from before us, until we had passed over;

²⁴hầu cho các dân tộc thế gian biết rằng tay của Ðức Giê-hô-va là rất mạnh, và cho các ngươi kính sợ Giê-hô-va Ðức Chúa Trời các ngươi luôn luôn.

²⁴that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of Yahweh, that it is mighty; that you may fear Yahweh your God forever.’”
