¹Sau A-bi-mê-léc, Thô-la, con trai Phu-a, cháu Ðô-đô, người Y-sa-ca, dấy lên đặng giải cứu Y-sơ-ra-ên. Người ở tại Sa-mia trong núi Ép-ra-im,

¹After Abimelech there arose to save Israel Tola the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar; and he lived in Shamir in the hill country of Ephraim.

²làm quan xét trong Y-sơ-ra-ên hai mươi ba năm; rồi thác và được chôn tại Sa-mia.

²He judged Israel twenty-three years, and died, and was buried in Shamir.

³Sau người ấy có Giai-rơ, người Ga-la-át, dấy lên, làm quan xét Y-sơ-ra-ên trong hai mươi hai năm.

³After him arose Jair, the Gileadite; and he judged Israel twenty-two years.

⁴Người có ba mươi con trai, cỡi ba mươi lừa con, và có ba mươi cái thành ở tại xứ Ga-la-át; ngày nay người ta cũng còn gọi nó là thôn Giai-rơ.

⁴He had thirty sons who rode on thirty donkey colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called Havvoth Jair to this day, which are in the land of Gilead.

⁵Khi Giai-rơ thác thì được chôn tại Kha-môn.

⁵Jair died, and was buried in Kamon.

⁶Kế ấy, dân Y-sơ-ra-ên lại làm điều ác trước mặt Ðức Giê-hô-va, phục sự những Ba-anh và Át-tạt-tê, cùng các thần Sy-ri, các thần Si-đôn, các thần Mô-áp, các thành người Am-môn, và các thần của dân Phi-li-tin: chúng lìa bỏ Ðức Giê-hô-va không phục sự Ngài.

⁶The children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and served the Baals, and the Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Sidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines; and they forsook Yahweh, and didn’t serve him.

⁷Cơn thạnh nộ của Ðức Giê-hô-va bèn nổi phừng cùng Y-sơ-ra-ên; Ngài phó chúng nó vào tay dân Phi-li-tin và vào tay người Am-môn.

⁷The anger of Yahweh was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the children of Ammon.

⁸Kể từ năm đó, hai dân tộc nầy hà hiếp và chà nát dân Y-sơ-ra-ên: những người Y-sơ-ra-ên ở bên kia sông Giô-đanh trong xứ A-mô-rít, tại miền Ga-la-át, bị hà hiếp, chà nát trong mười tám năm.

⁸They troubled and oppressed the children of Israel that year. For eighteen years, they oppressed all the children of Israel that were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.

⁹Dân Am-môn cũng sang qua sông Giô-đanh, đánh Giu-đa, Bên-gia-min, và nhà Ép-ra-im; Y-sơ-ra-ên bị cơn hoạn nạn lớn lao vậy.

⁹The children of Ammon passed over the Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was very distressed.

¹⁰Bấy giờ dân Y-sơ-ra-ên kêu cầu Ðức Giê-hô-va, mà rằng: Chúng tôi có phạm tội cùng Chúa, vì chúng tôi đã lìa bỏ Ðức Chúa Trời chúng tôi, và hầu việc các thần Ba-anh.

¹⁰The children of Israel cried to Yahweh, saying, “We have sinned against you, even because we have forsaken our God, and have served the Baals.”

¹¹Nhưng Ðức Chúa Trời đáp cùng dân Y-sơ-ra-ên rằng: Ta há chẳng có giải cứu các ngươi khỏi dân Ê-díp-tô, khỏi dân A-mô-rít, khỏi dân Am-môn, và khỏi dân Phi-li-tin sao?

¹¹Yahweh said to the children of Israel, “Didn’t I save you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?

¹²Lại khi dân Si-đôn, dân A-ma-léc, và dân Ma-ôn hà hiếp các ngươi, thì các ngươi có kêu cầu cùng ta, và ta đã giải cứu các ngươi khỏi tay chúng nó.

¹²The Sidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, oppressed you; and you cried to me, and I saved you out of their hand.

¹³Nhưng các ngươi đã lìa bỏ ta, hầu việc các thần khác, bởi đó cho nên ta không giải cứu các ngươi nữa.

¹³Yet you have forsaken me, and served other gods: therefore I will save you no more.

¹⁴Hãy đi kêu cầu những thần mà các ngươi đã chọn; chúng nó khá giải cứu các ngươi trong cơn hoạn nạn!

¹⁴Go and cry to the gods which you have chosen. Let them save you in the time of your distress!”

¹⁵Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên thưa cùng Ðức Giê-hô-va rằng: Chúng tôi đã phạm tội! Xin Chúa hãy đãi chúng tôi theo điều Chúa cho là tốt lành, chỉ xin hãy giải cứu chúng tôi ngày nay!

¹⁵The children of Israel said to Yahweh, “We have sinned: do you to us whatever seems good to you; only deliver us, please, this day.”

¹⁶Họ bèn cất khỏi giữa mình các tà thần, rồi trở lại phục sự Ðức Giê-hô-va; lòng Ngài buồn rầu về sự khốn khổ của Y-sơ-ra-ên.

¹⁶They put away the foreign gods from among them, and served Yahweh; and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.

¹⁷Dân Am-môn nhóm lại, và đóng trại trong xứ Ga-la-át. Dân Y-sơ-ra-ên cũng nhóm lại, và đóng trại tại Mích-ba.

¹⁷Then the children of Ammon were gathered together, and encamped in Gilead. The children of Israel assembled themselves together, and encamped in Mizpah.

¹⁸Dân sự và các quan trưởng xứ Ga-la-át hỏi nhau rằng: Ai là người sẽ khởi đầu ra đánh dân Am-môn? Người đó sẽ làm quan trưởng hết thảy dân Ga-la-át.

¹⁸The people, the princes of Gilead, said one to another, “What man is he who will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? He shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”
