¹In the same way, wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; so that, even if any don’t obey the Word, they may be won by the behavior of their wives without a word;

¹እንዲሁም፥ እናንተ ሚስቶች ሆይ፥ ከባሎቻችሁ አንዳንዱ ለትምህርት የማይታዘዙ ቢኖሩ፥ በፍርሃት ያለውን ንጹሑን ኑሮአችሁን እየተመለከቱ ያለ ትምህርት በሚስቶቻቸው ኑሮ እንዲገኙ ተገዙላቸው።

²seeing your pure behavior in fear.

³ለእናንተም ጠጕርን በመሸረብና ወርቅን በማንጠልጠል ወይም ልብስን በመጎናጸፍ በውጭ የሆነ ሽልማት አይሁንላችሁ፥

³Let your beauty be not just the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on fine clothing;

⁴ነገር ግን በእግዚአብሔር ፊት ዋጋው እጅግ የከበረ የዋህና ዝግተኛ መንፈስ ያለውን የማይጠፋውን ልብስ ለብሶ የተሰወረ የልብ ሰው ይሁንላችሁ።

⁴but in the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God very precious.

⁵እንዲህ በቀድሞ ዘመን በእግዚአብሔር ተስፋ ያደረጉት ቅዱሳት ሴቶች ደግሞ ለባሎቻቸው ሲገዙ ተሸልመው ነበርና፤

⁵For this is how the holy women before, who hoped in God also adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands:

⁶እንዲሁም ሣራ ለአብርሃም። ጌታ ብላ እየጠራችው ታዘዘችለት፤ እናንተም ከሚያስደነግጥ ነገር አንዳች እንኳ ሳትፈሩ መልካም ብታደርጉ ልጆችዋ ናችሁ።

⁶as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose children you now are, if you do well, and are not put in fear by any terror.

⁷እንዲሁም፥ እናንተ ባሎች ሆይ፥ ደካማ ፍጥረት ስለ ሆኑ ከሚስቶቻችሁ ጋር በማስተዋል አብራችሁ ኑሩ፤ ጸሎታችሁ እንዳይከለከል አብረው ደግሞ የሕይወትን ጸጋ እንደሚወርሱ አድርጋችሁ አክብሩአቸው።

⁷You husbands, in the same way, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman, as to the weaker vessel, as being also joint heirs of the grace of life; that your prayers may not be hindered.

⁸በመጨረሻው ሁላችሁ በአንድ ልብ ሁኑ፥ የሌላው መከራ ለእናንተ እንደሚሆን አድርጉ፥ እንደወንድሞች ተዋደዱ፥ ርኅሩኆችና ትሑታን ሁኑ፤

⁸Finally, be all like-minded, compassionate, loving as brothers, tenderhearted, courteous,

⁹ክፉን በክፉ ፈንታ ወይም ስድብን በስድብ ፈንታ አትመልሱ በዚህ ፈንታ ባርኩ እንጂ፥ በረከትን ልትወርሱ ለዚህ ተጠርታችኋልና።

⁹not rendering evil for evil, or insult for insult; but instead blessing; knowing that to this were you called, that you may inherit a blessing.

¹⁰ሕይወትን ሊወድ መልካሞችንም ቀኖች ሊያይ የሚፈልግ ሰው፥ መላሱን ከክፉ ከንፈሮቹንም ተንኰልን ከመናገር ይከልክል፤

¹⁰For, “He who would love life, and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit.

¹¹ከክፉ ፈቀቅ ይበል፥ መልካምንም ያድርግ፥ ሰላምን ይሻ ይከተለውም፤

¹¹Let him turn away from evil, and do good. Let him seek peace, and pursue it.

¹²የጌታ ዓይኖች ወደ ጻድቃን ናቸውና፥ ጆሮዎቹም ለጸሎታቸው ተከፍተዋል፥ የጌታ ፊት ግን ክፉ ነገርን በሚያደርጉ ላይ ነው።

¹²For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears open to their prayer; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” Psalm 34:12-16

¹³በጎንም ለማድረግ ብትቀኑ የሚያስጨንቃችሁ ማን ነው?

¹³Now who is he who will harm you, if you become imitators of that which is good?

¹⁴ነገር ግን ስለ ጽድቅ እንኳ መከራን ብትቀበሉ ብፁዓን ናችሁ። ማስፈራራታቸውንም አትፍሩ አትናወጡም፥

¹⁴But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “Don’t fear what they fear, neither be troubled.” Isaiah 8:12

¹⁵ዳሩ ግን ጌታን እርሱም ክርስቶስ በልባችሁ ቀድሱት። በእናንተ ስላለ ተስፋ ምክንያትን ለሚጠይቁዋችሁ ሁሉ መልስ ለመስጠት ዘወትር የተዘጋጃችሁ ሁኑ፥ ነገር ግን በየዋህነትና በፍርሃት ይሁን።

¹⁵But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts; and always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear:

¹⁶በክርስቶስ ያለውን መልካሙን ኑሮአችሁን የሚሳደቡ ሰዎች ክፉን እንደምታደርጉ በሚያሙበት ነገር እንዲያፍሩ በጎ ሕሊና ይኑራችሁ።

¹⁶having a good conscience; that, while you are spoken against as evildoers, they may be disappointed who curse your good way of life in Christ.

¹⁷የእግዚአብሔር ፈቃድ እንዲህ ቢሆን፥ ክፉ ስለ ማድረግ ሳይሆን በጎ ስለ ማድረግ መከራን ብትቀበሉ ይሻላችኋልና።

¹⁷For it is better, if it is God’s will, that you suffer for doing well than for doing evil.

¹⁸ክርስቶስ ደግሞ ወደ እግዚአብሔር እንዲያቀርበን እርሱ ጻድቅ ሆኖ ስለ ዓመፀኞች አንድ ጊዜ በኃጢአት ምክንያት ሞቶአልና፤ በሥጋ ሞተ በመንፈስ ግን ሕያው ሆነ፥

¹⁸Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring you to God; being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;

¹⁹በእርሱም ደግሞ ሄዶ በወኅኒ ለነበሩ ነፍሳት ሰበከላቸው፤

¹⁹in which he also went and preached to the spirits in prison,

²⁰ጥቂቶች ማለት ስምንት ነፍስ በውኃ የዳኑበት መርከብ ሲዘጋጅ፥ የእግዚአብሔር ትዕግሥት በኖኅ ዘመን በቈየ ጊዜ ቀድሞ አልታዘዙም።

²⁰who before were disobedient, when God waited patiently in the days of Noah, while the ship was being built. In it, few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.

²¹ይህም ውኃ ደግሞ ማለት ጥምቅት ምሳሌው ሆኖ አሁን ያድነናል፥ የሰውነትን እድፍ ማስወገድ አይደለም፥ ለእግዚአብሔር የበጎ ሕሊና ልመና ነው እንጂ፥ ይህም በኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ትንሣኤ ነው፤

²¹This is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you—not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

²²እርሱም መላእክትና ሥልጣናት ኃይላትም ከተገዙለት በኋላ ወደ ሰማይ ሄዶ በእግዚአብሔር ቀኝ አለ።

²²who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, angels and authorities and powers being made subject to him.
