¹Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen.

¹እምነትም ተስፋ ስለምናደርገው ነገር የሚያስረግጥ፥ የማናየውንም ነገር የሚያስረዳ ነው።

²For by this, the elders obtained testimony.

²ለሽማግሌዎች የተመሰከረላቸው በዚህ ነውና።

³By faith, we understand that the universe has been framed by the word of God, so that what is seen has not been made out of things which are visible.

³ዓለሞች በእግዚአብሔር ቃል እንደ ተዘጋጁ፥ ስለዚህም የሚታየው ነገር ከሚታዩት እንዳልሆነ በእምነት እናስተውላለን።

⁴By faith, Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he had testimony given to him that he was righteous, God testifying with respect to his gifts; and through it he, being dead, still speaks.

⁴አቤል ከቃየል ይልቅ የሚበልጥን መሥዋዕት ለእግዚአብሔር በእምነት አቀረበ፥ በዚህም፥ እግዚአብሔር ስለ ስጦታው ሲመሰክር፥ እርሱ ጻድቅ እንደ ሆነ ተመሰከረለት፤ ሞቶም ሳለ በመሥዋዕቱ እስከ አሁን ይናገራል።

⁵By faith, Enoch was taken away, so that he wouldn’t see death, and he was not found, because God translated him. For he has had testimony given to him that before his translation he had been well pleasing to God.

⁵ሄኖክ ሞትን እንዳያይ በእምነት ተወሰደ፥ እግዚአብሔርም ስለ ወሰደው አልተገኘም። ሳይወሰድ እግዚአብሔርን ደስ እንዳሰኘ ተመስክሮለታልና፤

⁶Without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.

⁶ያለ እምነትም ደስ ማሰኘት አይቻልም፤ ወደ እግዚአብሔር የሚደርስ እግዚአብሔር እንዳለ ለሚፈልጉትም ዋጋ እንዲሰጥ ያምን ዘንድ ያስፈልገዋልና።

⁷By faith, Noah, being warned about things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, or, reverence prepared a ship for the saving of his house, through which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

⁷ኖኅ ገና ስለማይታየው ነገር ተረድቶ እግዚአብሔርን እየፈራ ቤተ ስዎቹን ለማዳን መርከብን በእምነት አዘጋጀ፥ በዚህም ዓለምን ኰነነ፥ በእምነትም የሚገኘውን ጽድቅ ወራሽ ሆነ።

⁸By faith, Abraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out to the place which he was to receive for an inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he went.

⁸አብርሃም የተባለው ርስት አድርጎ ሊቀበለው ወዳለው ስፍራ ለመውጣት በእምነት ታዘዘ፥ ወዴትም እንደሚሄድ ሳያውቅ ወጣ።

⁹By faith, he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents, with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise.

⁹ለእንግዶች እንደሚሆን በተስፋ ቃል በተሰጠው አገር በድንኳን ኖሮ፥ ያን የተስፋ ቃል አብረውት ከሚወርሱ ከይስሐቅና ከያዕቆብ ጋር፥ እንደ መጻተኛ በእምነት ተቀመጠ፤

¹⁰For he looked for the city which has the foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

¹⁰መሠረት ያላትን፥ እግዚአብሔር የሠራትንና የፈጠራትን ከተማ ይጠብቅ ነበርና።

¹¹By faith, even Sarah herself received power to conceive, and she bore a child when she was past age, since she counted him faithful who had promised.

¹¹ተስፋ የሰጠው የታመነ እንደ ሆነ ስለ ቈጠረች፥ ሣራ ራስዋ ደግሞ ዕድሜዋ እንኳ ካለፈ በኋላ ዘርን ለመፅነስ ኃይልን በእምነት አገኘች።

¹²Therefore as many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as innumerable as the sand which is by the sea shore, were fathered by one man, and him as good as dead.

¹²ስለዚህ ደግሞ በብዛታቸው እንደ ሰማይ ኮከብ እንደማይቈጠርም በባሕር ዳር እንዳለ አሸዋ የነበሩት የሞተን ሰው እንኳ ከመሰለው ከአንዱ ተወለዱ።

¹³These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen TR adds “and being convinced of” them and embraced them from afar, and having confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

¹³እነዚህ ሁሉ አምነው ሞቱ፥ የተሰጣቸውን የተስፋ ቃል አላገኙምና፤ ዳሩ ግን ከሩቅ ሆነው አዩትና ተሳለሙት፥ በምድሪቱም እንግዶችና መጻተኞች እንዲሆኑ ታመኑ።

¹⁴For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own.

¹⁴እንዲህ የሚሉት ለእነርሱ የሚሆነውን አገር እንዲፈልጉ ያመለክታሉና።

¹⁵If indeed they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had enough time to return.

¹⁵ያን የወጡበትን አገር አስበው ቢሆኑ፥ ሊመለሱ ጊዜ በሆነላቸው ነበር፤

¹⁶But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

¹⁶አሁን ግን የሚበልጠውን እርሱም ሰማያዊ አገር ይናፍቃሉ። ስለዚህ እግዚአብሔር አምላካቸው ተብሎ ሊጠራ በእነርሱ አያፍርም፥ ከተማን አዘጋጅቶላቸዋልና።

¹⁷By faith, Abraham, being tested, offered up Isaac. Yes, he who had gladly received the promises was offering up his one and only son;

¹⁷አብርሃም በተፈተነበት ጊዜ ይስሐቅን በእምነት አቀረበ፥ የተስፋን ቃል የተቀበለው። በይስሐቅ ዘር ይጠራልሃል የተባለለት እርሱም አንድ ልጁን አቀረበ፤

¹⁸even he to whom it was said, “In Isaac will your seed be called”; Genesis 21:12

¹⁹እግዚአብሔር ከሙታን እንኳ ሊያስነሣው እንዲቻለው አስቦአልና፥ ከዚያም ደግሞ በምሳሌ አገኘው።

¹⁹concluding that God is able to raise up even from the dead. Figuratively speaking, he also did receive him back from the dead.

²⁰ይስሐቅ ሊመጣ ስላለው ነገር ያዕቆብንና ዔሳውን በእምነት ባረካቸው።

²⁰By faith, Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau, even concerning things to come.

²¹ያዕቆብ ሲሞት በእምነት የዮሴፍን ልጆች እያንዳንዳቸው ባረካቸው፥ በዘንጉም ጫፍ ተጠግቶ ሰገደ።

²¹By faith, Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff.

²²ዮሴፍ ወደ ሞት ቀርቦ ሳለ በእምነት ስለ እስራኤል ልጆች መውጣት አስታወሰ፥ ስለ አጥንቱም አዘዛቸው።

²²By faith, Joseph, when his end was near, made mention of the departure of the children of Israel; and gave instructions concerning his bones.

²³ሙሴ ከተወለደ በኋላ ወላጆቹ ያማረ ሕፃን መሆኑን አይተው በእምነት ሦስት ወር ሸሸጉት የንጉሥንም አዋጅ አልፈሩም።

²³By faith, Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that he was a beautiful child, and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.

²⁴ሙሴ ካደገ በኋላ የፈርዖን የልጅ ልጅ እንዳይባል በእምነት እምቢ አለ፤

²⁴By faith, Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter,

²⁵ከግብፅም ብዙ ገንዘብ ይልቅ ስለ ክርስቶስ መነቀፍ እጅግ የሚበልጥ ባለ ጠግነት እንዲሆን አስቦአልና ለጊዜው በኃጢአት ከሚገኝ ደስታ ይልቅ ከእግዚአብሔር ሕዝብ ጋር መከራ መቀበልን መረጠ፤ ብድራቱን ትኵር ብሎ ተመልክቶአልና።

²⁵choosing rather to share ill treatment with God’s people, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a time;

²⁷የንጉሡን ቍጣ ሳይፈራ የግብፅን አገር የተወ በእምነት ነበር፤ የማይታየውን እንደሚያየው አድርጎ ጸንቶአልና።

²⁶accounting the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he looked to the reward.

²⁸አጥፊው የበኵሮችን ልጆች እንዳይነካ ፋሲካንና ደምን መርጨትን በእምነት አደረገ።

²⁷By faith, he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

²⁹በደረቅ ምድር እንደሚያልፉ በኤርትራ ባሕር በእምነት ተሻገሩ፥ የግብፅ ሰዎች ግን ሲሞክሩ ተዋጡ።

²⁸By faith, he kept the Passover, and the sprinkling of the blood, that the destroyer of the firstborn should not touch them.

³⁰የኢያሪኮ ቅጥር ሰባት ቀን ከዞሩበት በኋላ በእምነት ወደቀ።

²⁹By faith, they passed through the Red Sea as on dry land. When the Egyptians tried to do so, they were swallowed up.

³¹ጋለሞታይቱ ረዓብ ሰላዮችን በሰላም ስለ ተቀበለቻቸው ከማይታዘዙ ጋር በእምነት አልጠፋችም።

³⁰By faith, the walls of Jericho fell down, after they had been encircled for seven days.

³²እንግዲህ ምን እላለሁ? ስለ ጌዴዎንና ስለ ባርቅ ስለ ሶምሶንም ስለ ዮፍታሔም ስለ ዳዊትና ስለ ሳሙኤልም ስለ ነቢያትም እንዳልተርክ ጊዜ ያጥርብኛልና።

³¹By faith, Rahab the prostitute, didn’t perish with those who were disobedient, having received the spies in peace.

³³እነርሱ በእምነት መንግሥታትን ድል ነሡ፥ ጽድቅን አደረጉ፥ የተሰጠውን የተስፋ ቃል አገኙ፥

³²What more shall I say? For the time would fail me if I told of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets;

³⁴የአንበሶችን አፍ ዘጉ፥ የእሳትን ኃይል አጠፉ፥ ከሰይፍ ስለት አመለጡ፥ ከድካማቸው በረቱ፥ በጦርነት ኃይለኞች ሆኑ፥ የባዕድ ጭፍሮችን አባረሩ።

³³who, through faith subdued kingdoms, worked out righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, Daniel 6:22-23

³⁵ሴቶች ሙታናቸውን በትንሣኤ ተቀበሉ፤ ሌሎችም መዳንን ሳይቀበሉ የሚበልጠውን ትንሣኤ እንዲያገኙ እስከ ሞት ድረስ ተደበደቡ፤

³⁴quenched the power of fire, Daniel 3:1-30 escaped the edge of the sword, 1 Kings 19:1-3; 2 Kings 6:31-7:20 from weakness were made strong, grew mighty in war, and caused foreign armies to flee.

³⁶ሌሎችም መዘበቻ በመሆንና በመገረፍ ከዚህም በላይ በእስራትና በወኅኒ ተፈተኑ፤

³⁵Women received their dead by resurrection. 1 Kings 17:17-23; 2 Kings 4:32-37 Others were tortured, not accepting their deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.

³⁷በድንጋይ ተወግረው ሞቱ፥ ተፈተኑ፥ በመጋዝ ተሰነጠቁ፥ በሰይፍ ተገድለው ሞቱ፥ ሁሉን እያጡ መከራን እየተቀበሉ እየተጨነቁ የበግና የፍየል ሌጦ ለብሰው ዞሩ፤

³⁶Others were tried by mocking and scourging, yes, moreover by bonds and imprisonment.

³⁸ዓለም አልተገባቸውምና በምድረ በዳና በተራራ፥ በዋሻና በምድር ጕድጓድ ተቅበዘበዙ።

³⁷They were stoned. 2 Chronicles 24:20-21 They were sawn apart. They were tempted. They were slain with the sword. Jeremiah 26:20-23; 1 Kings 19:10 They went around in sheep skins and in goat skins; being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated

³⁹እነዚህም ሁሉ በእምነታቸው ተመስክሮላቸው ሳሉ የተሰጠውን የተስፋ ቃል አላገኙም፥ ያለ እኛ ፍጹማን እንዳይሆኑ እግዚአብሔር ስለ እኛ አንዳች የሚበልጥ ነገርን አስቀድሞ አይቶ ነበርና።

³⁸(of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts, mountains, caves, and the holes of the earth.

³⁹These all, having had testimony given to them through their faith, didn’t receive the promise,

⁴⁰God having provided some better thing concerning us, so that apart from us they should not be made perfect.
