¹ Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

¹وكلم الرب موسى في برية سيناء في خيمة الاجتماع في اول الشهر الثاني في السنة الثانية لخروجهم من ارض مصر قائلا

²“Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, every male, one by one;

²احصوا كل جماعة بني اسرائيل بعشائرهم وبيوت آبائهم بعدد الاسماء كل ذكر براسه

³from twenty years old and upward, all who are able to go out to war in Israel. You and Aaron shall number them by their divisions.

³من ابن عشرين سنة فصاعدا كل خارج للحرب في اسرائيل. تحسبهم انت وهرون حسب اجنادهم.

⁴With you there shall be a man of every tribe; everyone head of his fathers’ house.

⁴ويكون معكما رجل لكل سبط. رجل هو راس لبيت آبائه.

⁵These are the names of the men who shall stand with you: Of Reuben: Elizur the son of Shedeur.

⁵وهذه اسماء الرجال الذين يقفون معكما. لرأوبين أليصور بن شديئور.

⁶Of Simeon: Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.

⁶لشمعون شلوميئيل بن صور يشدّاي.

⁷Of Judah: Nahshon the son of Amminadab.

⁷ليهوذا نحشون بن عميناداب.

⁸Of Issachar: Nethanel the son of Zuar.

⁸ليساكر نثنائيل بن صوغر.

⁹Of Zebulun: Eliab the son of Helon.

⁹لزبولون أليآب بن حيلون.

¹⁰Of the children of Joseph: Of Ephraim: Elishama the son of Ammihud. Of Manasseh: Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.

¹⁰لابني يوسف لافرايم أليشمع بن عميهود ولمنسّى جمليئيل بن فدهصور.

¹¹Of Benjamin: Abidan the son of Gideoni.

¹¹لبنيامين ابيدن بن جدعوني.

¹²Of Dan: Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.

¹²لدان أخيعزر بن عميشدّاي.

¹³Of Asher: Pagiel the son of Ochran.

¹³لأشير فجعيئيل بن عكرن.

¹⁴Of Gad: Eliasaph the son of Deuel.

¹⁴لجاد ألياساف بن دعوئيل.

¹⁵Of Naphtali: Ahira the son of Enan.”

¹⁵لنفتالي اخيرع بن عينن.

¹⁶These are those who were called of the congregation, the princes of the tribes of their fathers; they were the heads of the thousands of Israel.

¹⁶هؤلاء هم مشاهير الجماعة رؤساء اسباط آبائهم. رؤوس الوف اسرائيل.

¹⁷Moses and Aaron took these men who are mentioned by name.

¹⁷فاخذ موسى وهرون هؤلاء الرجال الذين تعيّنوا باسمائهم.

¹⁸They assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month; and they declared their ancestry by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, one by one.

¹⁸وجمعا كل الجماعة في اول الشهر الثاني فانتسبوا الى عشائرهم وبيوت آبائهم بعدد الاسماء من ابن عشرين سنة فصاعدا برؤوسهم

¹⁹As Yahweh commanded Moses, so he numbered them in the wilderness of Sinai.

¹⁹كما امر الرب موسى. فعدّهم في برية سيناء

²⁰The children of Reuben, Israel’s firstborn, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, one by one, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

²⁰فكان بنو رأوبين بكر اسرائيل تواليدهم حسب عشائرهم وبيوت آبائهم بعدد الاسماء برؤوسهم كل ذكر من ابن عشرين سنة فصاعدا كل خارج للحرب

²¹those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Reuben, were forty-six thousand five hundred.

²¹كان المعدودون منهم لسبط رأوبين ستة واربعين الفا وخمس مئة

²²Of the children of Simeon, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, those who were numbered of it, according to the number of the names, one by one, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

²²بنو شمعون تواليدهم حسب عشائرهم وبيوت آبائهم المعدودون منهم بعدد الاسماء برؤوسهم كل ذكر من ابن عشرين سنة فصاعدا كل خارج للحرب

²³those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Simeon, were fifty-nine thousand three hundred.

²³المعدودون منهم لسبط شمعون تسعة وخمسون الفا وثلاث مئة

²⁴Of the children of Gad, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

²⁴بنو جاد تواليدهم حسب عشائرهم وبيوت آبائهم بعدد الاسماء من ابن عشرين سنة فصاعدا كل خارج للحرب

²⁵those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Gad, were forty-five thousand six hundred fifty.

²⁵المعدودون منهم لسبط جاد خمسة واربعون الفا وست مئة وخمسون

²⁶Of the children of Judah, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

²⁶بنو يهوذا تواليدهم حسب عشائرهم وبيوت آبائهم بعدد الاسماء من ابن عشرين سنة فصاعدا كل خارج للحرب

²⁷those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Judah, were sixty-four thousand six hundred.

²⁷المعدودون منهم لسبط يهوذا اربعة وسبعون الفا وست مئة

²⁸Of the children of Issachar, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

²⁸بنو يسّاكر تواليدهم حسب عشائرهم وبيوت آبائهم بعدد الاسماء من ابن عشرين سنة فصاعدا كل خارج للحرب

²⁹those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Issachar, were fifty-four thousand four hundred.

²⁹المعدودون منهم لسبط يسّاكر اربعة وخمسون الفا واربع مئة

³⁰Of the children of Zebulun, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

³⁰بنو زبولون تواليدهم حسب عشائرهم وبيوت آبائهم بعدد الاسماء من ابن عشرين سنة فصاعدا كل خارج للحرب

³¹those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Zebulun, were fifty-seven thousand four hundred.

³¹المعدودون منهم لسبط زبولون سبعة وخمسون الفا واربع مئة

³²Of the children of Joseph, of the children of Ephraim, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

³²بنو يوسف بنو افرايم تواليدهم حسب عشائرهم وبيوت آبائهم بعدد الاسماء من ابن عشرين سنة فصاعدا كل خارج للحرب

³³those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Ephraim, were forty thousand five hundred.

³³المعدودون منهم لسبط افرايم اربعون الفا وخمس مئة

³⁴Of the children of Manasseh, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

³⁴بنو منسّى تواليدهم حسب عشائرهم وبيوت آبائهم بعدد الاسماء من ابن عشرين سنة فصاعدا كل خارج للحرب

³⁵those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Manasseh, were thirty-two thousand two hundred.

³⁵المعدودون منهم لسبط منسّى اثنان وثلاثون الفا ومئتان

³⁶Of the children of Benjamin, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

³⁶بنو بنيامين تواليدهم حسب عشائرهم وبيوت آبائهم بعدد الاسماء من ابن عشرين سنة فصاعدا كل خارج للحرب

³⁷those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Benjamin, were thirty-five thousand four hundred.

³⁷المعدودون منهم لسبط بنيامين خمسة وثلاثون الفا واربع مئة

³⁸Of the children of Dan, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war;

³⁸بنو دان تواليدهم حسب عشائرهم وبيوت آبائهم بعدد الاسماء من ابن عشرين سنة فصاعدا كل خارج للحرب

³⁹those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Dan, were sixty-two thousand seven hundred.

³⁹المعدودون منهم لسبط دان اثنان وستون الفا وسبع مئة

⁴⁰Of the children of Asher, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war;

⁴⁰بنو اشير تواليدهم حسب عشائرهم وبيوت آبائهم بعدد الاسماء من ابن عشرين سنة فصاعدا كل خارج للحرب

⁴¹those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Asher, were forty-one thousand five hundred.

⁴¹المعدودون منهم لسبط اشير واحد واربعون الفا وخمس مئة

⁴²Of the children of Naphtali, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war;

⁴²بنو نفتالي تواليدهم حسب عشائرهم وبيوت آبائهم بعدد الاسماء من ابن عشرين سنة فصاعدا كل خارج للحرب

⁴³those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty-three thousand four hundred.

⁴³المعدودون منهم لسبط نفتالي ثلاثة وخمسون الفا واربع مئة

⁴⁴These are those who were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron numbered, and the princes of Israel, being twelve men: they were each one for his fathers’ house.

⁴⁴هؤلاء هم المعدودون الذين عدّهم موسى وهرون ورؤساء اسرائيل اثنا عشر رجلا رجل واحد لبيت آبائه

⁴⁵So all those who were numbered of the children of Israel by their fathers’ houses, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war in Israel;

⁴⁵فكان جميع المعدودين من بني اسرائيل حسب بيوت آبائهم من ابن عشرين سنة فصاعدا كل خارج للحرب في اسرائيل

⁴⁶even all those who were numbered were six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty.

⁴⁶كان جميع المعدودين ست مئة الف وثلاثة آلاف وخمس مئة وخمسين.

⁴⁷But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them.

⁴⁷واما اللاويون حسب سبط آبائهم فلم يعدّوا بينهم

⁴⁸For Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

⁴⁸اذ كلم الرب موسى قائلا

⁴⁹“Only the tribe of Levi you shall not number, neither shall you take a census of them among the children of Israel;

⁴⁹اما سبط لاوي فلا تحسبه ولا تعدّه بين بني اسرائيل.

⁵⁰but appoint the Levites over the Tabernacle of the Testimony, and over all its furnishings, and over all that belongs to it. They shall carry the tabernacle, and all its furnishings; and they shall take care of it, and shall encamp around it.

⁵⁰بل وكّل اللاويين على مسكن الشهادة وعلى جميع امتعته وعلى كل ما له. هم يحملون المسكن وكل امتعته وهم يخدمونه وحول المسكن ينزلون.

⁵¹When the tabernacle is to move, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall set it up. The stranger who comes near shall be put to death.

⁵¹فعند ارتحال المسكن ينزله اللاويون وعند نزول المسكن يقيمه اللاويون والاجنبيّ الذي يقترب يقتل.

⁵²The children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, according to their divisions.

⁵²وينزل بنو اسرائيل كلّ في محلته وكلّ عند رايته باجنادهم.

⁵³But the Levites shall encamp around the Tabernacle of the Testimony, that there may be no wrath on the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall be responsible for the Tabernacle of the Testimony.”

⁵³واما اللاويون فينزلون حول مسكن الشهادة لكي لا يكون سخط على جماعة بني اسرائيل فيحفظ اللاويون شعائر مسكن الشهادة.

⁵⁴Thus the children of Israel did. According to all that Yahweh commanded Moses, so they did.
