¹In those days, John the Baptizer came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,

¹उ दिनन बपतिस्मा देइवाला यूहन्ना यहूदिया क बियाबान उसरे मँ उपदेस देत भवा हुवाँ आवा।

²“Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!”

²उ इ प्रचार करइ लाग, “मन फिरावा काहेकि सरग क राज्य जल्दी आवइ क अहइ।”

³For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, make ready the way of the Lord. Make his paths straight.” Isaiah 40:3

³इ उहइ यूहन्ना बाटइ जेकरे बारे मँ नबी यसायाह बात बतावत कहेस ह: “उसरे मँ एक पुकारैवाला क सब्द अहइ: ‘पर्भू बरे रास्ता तइयार करा अउर ओकरे बरे सोझ रस्ता बनवा।”‘ यसायाह 40:3

⁴Now John himself wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.

⁴यूहन्ना क ओढ़ना ऊँटे क ऊन स बना रहा अउर करिहाउँ प चमड़ा क पेटी बाँधे रहा। ओकर खइया क टिड्डन अउर जंगली सहद रहा।

⁵Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him.

⁵उ समइ यरूसलेम, समूचा यहूदिया छेत्र अउर यरदन नदी क नगिचे मनई ओकरे लगे ओका सुनइ ऍकट्ठा भएन।

⁶They were baptized or, immersed by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.

⁶उ पचे आपन पापन्क कबूलेन्ह अउर यरदन नदी मँ ओकरे जरिये बपतिस्मा दीन्ह गवा।

⁷But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, or, immersion he said to them, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

⁷जब उ लखेस कि ढेर फरीसियन अउर सदूकियन ओकरे लगे बपतिस्मा लेइ आवत अहइँ तउ उ ओनसे कहेस, “ओ सरप क बच्चा लोग! तू पचन क कउन चिताउनी दिहस ह कि परमेस्सर क होइवाला किरोध स बच जा?

⁸Therefore bring forth fruit worthy of repentance!

⁸तोहका इ बात क प्रमान देइ पड़ी कि तू पचे फुरे फुरे मनफिराया ह।

⁹Don’t think to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father,’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

⁹अउर इ जिन सोचा कि खुद अपने स कहे बिना इ बात काफी होइ जाई, ‘हम पचे इब्राहीम क संतान अही’। मइँ तोसे कहत हउँ कि परमेस्सर इब्राहीम बरे इ पथरन स बचवन क पइदा कइ सकत ह।

¹⁰“Even now the axe lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that doesn’t bring forth good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.

¹⁰बृच्छन क जरे प कुल्हाड़ा रखा बाटइ अउर हर एक बृच्छ जउन फर पइदा नाहीं करतेन, उ काटिके गिराइ दीन्ह जइहीं; अउर फिन कोका आडी मँ झोंकि दीन्ह जाई।

¹¹I indeed baptize or, immerse you in water for repentance, but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit. TR and NU add “and with fire”

¹¹“मइँ तउ तू पचन क तोहरे मनफिराव बरे पानी स बपतिस्मा देत हउँ; मुला उ जउन मोरे पाछे आवइवाला अहइ उ मोसे जियादा बरिआर अहइ। मइँ तउ ओकर पनही खोलइ क जोग्ग नाहीं। उ तू पचन क पवित्तर आतिमा अउर आगी स बपतिस्मा देइ।

¹²His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.”

¹²ओकरे हाथे मँ सूप अहइ, जेहसे उ अनाजे क भूसा स अलग करी। अपने खरिहाने स उ साफ कीन्ह अनाजे क उठाइ क, ऍकट्ठा कइके कोठिला मँ भरि देइ अउर भूसा क अइसी आगी मँ नाइ दीन्ह जाई कि बुझाए प न बुझी।”

¹³Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.

¹³उ समइ ईसू गलील स चलिके यरदन क किनारे यूहन्ना क नगिचे ओसे बपतिस्मा लेइ बरे आवा।

¹⁴But John would have hindered him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me?”

¹⁴मुला यूहन्ना ईसू क निर्नय बदले क जतन करत कहेस, “मोका तउ खुद तोसे बपतिस्मा लेइ क दरकार अहइ। फिन तू काहे मोरे नगिचे आया ह।”

¹⁵But Jesus, answering, said to him, “Allow it now, for this is the fitting way for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed him.

¹⁵ईसू जवाबे मँ ओसे कहेस, “अबाहिन तउ ऍका अइसे होइ द्या। जउन परमेस्सर चाहत अहइ, हमका उ पूरा करब नीक बाटइ।” फिन उ वइसे होइ दिहस।

¹⁶Jesus, when he was baptized, went up directly from the water: and behold, the heavens were opened to him. He saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming on him.

¹⁶अउर तबहिं ईसू बपतिस्मा लइ लिहस। जइसे उ पानी स बाहेर आवा, अकास खुलि गवा। उ परमेस्सर क आतिमा क एक ठु कबूतरे क नाईं खाले उतरत अउर ऊपर आवत देखेस।

¹⁷Behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

¹⁷तबहिन अकासवाणी भइ: “इ मोर पिआरा पूत अहइ। जेसे मइ खूब खुस हउँ।”
