¹This is a faithful saying: if a man seeks the office of an overseer or, superintendents, or bishops , he desires a good work.

¹Pulong nga matinumanon: Kong ang usa ka tawo nagapangita sa katungdanan sa usa ka obispo magatinguha siya ug usa ka maayong buhat.

²The overseer therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, modest, hospitable, good at teaching;

²Busa, ang obispo kinahanglan nga dili mabadlonganon, bana sa usa ka asawa, kasarangan, buotan, maugdang, maabiabihon, may katakus sa pagtudlo;

³not a drinker, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous;

³Dili palainum sa vino, dili palaaway; apan malolot, dili tiglalis, dili mahigug-maon sa salapi;

⁴one who rules his own house well, having children in subjection with all reverence;

⁴Tawo nga nagadumala ug maayo sa iyang panimalay, nga ang iyang mga anak anaa sa ubos sa pagpasakup kaniya sa bug-os nga kaugdang:

⁵(but if a man doesn’t know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the assembly of God?)

⁵(Apan kong usa ka tawo dili mahibalong magdumala sa iyang panimalay unsaon man niya sa pag-alima ang iglesia sa Dios?)

⁶not a new convert, lest being puffed up he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.

⁶Dili ang usa ka bag-o nga kinabig, tingali unya nga sa nagapaburot siya, mahulog siya sa silot sa yawa.

⁷Moreover he must have good testimony from those who are outside, to avoid falling into reproach and the snare of the devil.

⁷Labut pa niini siya kinahanglan usab, nga may maayong pagpamatuod nga gikan kanila nga anaa sa gawas; tingali siya mahulog ngadto sa kaulawan ug sa bitik sa yawa.

⁸ Servants or, Deacons. , in the same way, must be reverent, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for money;

⁸Ingon man usab ang mga diacono kinahanglan magmaugdang, dili mag-duruha ang sinultihan, dili palainum sa vino, dili mahigugmaon sa maka-uulaw nga ganancia.

⁹holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

⁹Nga nagabaton sa tinago sa pagtoo sa usa ka maputli nga kaisipan.

¹⁰Let them also first be tested; then let them serve or, serve as deacons if they are blameless.

¹⁰Ug kini sila pagasulayan usab una; unya paalagara sila ingon nga mga diacono kong dili na sila mabadlonganon.

¹¹Their wives in the same way must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.

¹¹Ingon man usab ang mga babaye magmaugdang sila, dili magmalibakon, mga kasarangan, mga matinumanon sa tanang butang.

¹²Let servants or, deacons be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

¹²Ang mga diacono mabana sa usa ka asawa, nga magadumala ug maayo sa ilang mga anak, ug sa ilang panimalay.

¹³For those who have served well or, served well as deacons gain for themselves a good standing, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

¹³Kay ang mga nagaalagad ug maayo, ingon nga mga diacono, nanghiagum sa ilang kaugalingon ug dungganon nga kahimtang, ug may daku nga kaisug sa pagtoo, nga anaa kang Cristo Jesus.

¹⁴These things I write to you, hoping to come to you shortly;

¹⁴Kining mga butanga gisulat ko kanimo nga gilauman ko ang pag-anha diha sa madali kanimo:

¹⁵but if I wait long, that you may know how men ought to behave themselves in God’s house, which is the assembly of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

¹⁵Apan kong ako malangan ug dugay, aron masayran mo kong unsa ang paggawi sa mga tawo sa balay sa Dios, nga mao ang iglesia sa Dios nga buhi, haligi ug patukoranan sa kamatuoran.

¹⁶Without controversy, the mystery of godliness is great: God was revealed in the flesh, justified in the spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, and received up in glory.

¹⁶Ug sa walay langtugi, daku ang tinago sa pagka-diosnon: Ang Dios nga gipadayag diha sa unod, gipakamatarung sa Espiritu; nakit-an sa mga manolonda; giwali sa taliwala sa mga kanasuran: gitohoan dinhi sa kalibutan; gibayaw sa himaya.
