¹The whole earth was of one language and of one speech.

²It happened, as they traveled east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they lived there.

³They said one to another, “Come, let’s make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar.

³Ug sila nasig-ingon ang usa ug usa: Umari kamo. Magbuhat kita ug tisa ug pagbahon ta ug maayo. Ug sila may tisa nga gigamit nga alili sa bato, ug may salong nga alili sa apog.

⁴They said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top reaches to the sky, and let’s make ourselves a name, lest we be scattered abroad on the surface of the whole earth.”

⁴Ug ming-ingon sila: Umari kamo. Magbuhat kita alang kanato ug usa ka lungsod ug usa ka torre nga ang iyang ibubungan moabut sa langit, ug kita magbuhat alang kanato ug usa ka ngalan, kay tingali unya kita pagpatlaagon sa halayo sa tibook nga nawong sa yuta.

⁵Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built.

⁵Ug nanaug si Jehova sa pagtan-aw sa lungsod, ug sa torre nga gitukod sa mga anak sa mga tawo.

⁶Yahweh said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is what they begin to do. Now nothing will be withheld from them, which they intend to do.

⁶Ug miingon si Jehova: Ania karon, sila usa lamang ka lungsod ug may usa lamang ka pinulongan silang tanan, ug kini mao ang ginasugdan nila sa pagbuhat; ug karon walay bisan unsa nga magapugong kanila sa ilang ginahunahuna nga buhaton.

⁷Come, let’s go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”

⁷Umari kamo, manganaug kita, ug lahugayon nato ang ilang mga sinultihan, aron sila dili na makasabut sa sinultihan sa usa ug usa.

⁸So Yahweh scattered them abroad from there on the surface of all the earth. They stopped building the city.

⁸Busa, gipapatlaag sila ni Jehova sa halayo ngadto sa ibabaw sa nawong sa tibook nga yuta; ug gibiyaan nila ang pagtukod sa lungsod.

⁹Therefore its name was called Babel, because there Yahweh confused the language of all the earth. From there, Yahweh scattered them abroad on the surface of all the earth.

⁹Tungod niini ang ngalan niadto gitawag Babel; kay didto gilahugay ni Jehova ang sinultihan sa tibook nga yuta. Ug gikan didto gipapatlaag sila sa nawong sa tibook nga yuta.

¹⁰This is the history of the generations of Shem. Shem was one hundred years old and became the father of Arpachshad two years after the flood.

¹⁰Kini mao ang mga kaliwatan ni Sem, may panuigon nga usa ka gatus ka tuig, ug nanganak kang Arphaxad, duruha ka tuig sa human ang lunop.

¹¹Shem lived five hundred years after he became the father of Arpachshad, and became the father of sons and daughters.

¹¹Ug si Sem, sa human manganak kang Arphaxad, nakadangat ug lima ka gatus ka tuig, ug nanganak siya ug mga anak nga lalake ug mga anak nga babaye.

¹²Arpachshad lived thirty-five years and became the father of Shelah.

¹²Ug si Arphaxad nakadangat ug katloan ug lima ka tuig, ug nanganak nga siya kang Sala.

¹³Arpachshad lived four hundred three years after he became the father of Shelah, and became the father of sons and daughters.

¹³Ug si Arphaxad, sa human manganak kang Sala, nakadangat ug upat ka gatus ug totolo ka tuig, ug nanganak siya ug mga anak nga lalake ug mga anak nga babaye.

¹⁴Shelah lived thirty years, and became the father of Eber:

¹⁵and Shelah lived four hundred three years after he became the father of Eber, and became the father of sons and daughters.

¹⁵Ug si Sala, sa human manganak kang Heber, nakadangat ug upat ka gatus ug totolo ka tuig ug nanganak siya ug mga anak nga lalake ug mga anak nga babaye.

¹⁶Eber lived thirty-four years, and became the father of Peleg.

¹⁶Ug nakadangat si Heber ug katloan ug upat ka tuig, ug nanganak siya kang Peleg.

¹⁷Eber lived four hundred thirty years after he became the father of Peleg, and became the father of sons and daughters.

¹⁷Ug si Heber, sa human manganak kang Peleg, nakadangat ug upat ka gatus ug katloan ka tuig, ug nanganak siya ug mga anak nga lalake ug mga anak nga babaye.

¹⁸Peleg lived thirty years, and became the father of Reu.

¹⁸Ug nakadangat si Peleg ug katloan ka tuig, ug nanganak siya kang Reu.

¹⁹Peleg lived two hundred nine years after he became the father of Reu, and became the father of sons and daughters.

¹⁹Ug si Peleg, sa human manganak kang Reu, nakadangat ug duha ka gatus ug siyam ka tuig, ug nanganak siya ug mga anak nga lalake ug mga anak nga babaye.

²⁰Reu lived thirty-two years, and became the father of Serug.

²⁰Ug nakadangat si Reu ug katloan ug duha ka tuig, ug nanganak siya kang Serug.

²¹Reu lived two hundred seven years after he became the father of Serug, and became the father of sons and daughters.

²¹Ug si Reu, sa human manganak kang Serug, nakadangat ug duha ka gatus ug pito ka tuig, ug nanganak siya ug mga anak nga lalake ug mga anak nga babaye.

²²Serug lived thirty years, and became the father of Nahor.

²²Ug nakadangat si Serug ug katloan ka tuig, ug nanganak kang Nachor.

²³Serug lived two hundred years after he became the father of Nahor, and became the father of sons and daughters.

²³Ug si Serug, sa human manganak kang Nachor, nakadangat ug duha ka gatus ka tuig, ug nanganak siya ug mga anak nga lalake ug mga anak nga babaye.

²⁴Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and became the father of Terah.

²⁴Ug nakadangat si Nachor ug kaluhaan ug siyam ka tuig, ug nanganak siya kang Tare.

²⁵Nahor lived one hundred nineteen years after he became the father of Terah, and became the father of sons and daughters.

²⁵Ug si Nachor, sa human manganak kang Tare, nakadangat ug usa ka gatus ug napulo ug siyam ka tuig, ug nanganak siya ug mga anak nga lalake ug mga anak nga babaye.

²⁶Terah lived seventy years, and became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

²⁶Ug nakadangat si Tare ug kapitoan ka tuig, ug nanganak siya kang Abram, ug kang Nachor, ug kang Haran.

²⁷Now this is the history of the generations of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran became the father of Lot.

²⁷Kini sili mao ang mga kaliwatan ni Tare: si Tare nanganak kang Abram, ug kang Nachor, ug kang Haran; ug si Haran nanganak kang Lot.

²⁸Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldees.

²⁸Ug namatay si Haran, sa wala pa mamatay ang iyang amahan nga si Tare sa yuta nga iyang natawohan; sa Ur sa mga Caldehanon.

²⁹Abram and Nahor took wives. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran who was also the father of Iscah.

²⁹Ug nangasawa si Abram ug si Nachor: ang ngalan sa asawa ni Abram mao si Sarai, ug ang ngalan sa asawa ni Nachor, si Milca, anak nga babaye ni Haran, ang amahan ni Milca ug amahan ni Isca.

³⁰Sarai was barren. She had no child.

³⁰Apan si Sarai apuli, walay anak siya.

³¹Terah took Abram his son, Lot the son of Haran, his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife. They went from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan. They came to Haran and lived there.

³²The days of Terah were two hundred five years. Terah died in Haran.
