1Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle; and they were gathered together at Socoh, which belongs to Judah, and encamped between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephesdammim.
1 Casglodd y Philistiaid eu lluoedd i ryfel, ac ymgynnull yn Socho, a oedd yn perthyn i Jwda, a gosod eu gwersyll rhwng Socho ac Aseca yn Effes-dammim.
2Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and encamped in the valley of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.
2 Ymgynullodd Saul a'r Israeliaid hefyd, a gwersyllu yn nyffryn Ela a pharatoi i frwydro yn erbyn y Philistiaid.
3The Philistines stood on the mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on the mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.
3 Safai'r Philistiaid ar dir uchel o un tu, ac Israel ar dir uchel o'r tu arall, gyda dyffryn rhyngddynt.
4There went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
4 O wersyll y Philistiaid daeth allan heriwr o'r enw Goliath, dyn o Gath, ac yn chwe chufydd a rhychwant o daldra.
5He had a helmet of brass on his head, and he was clad with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass.
5 Yr oedd ganddo helm bres am ei ben, ac yr oedd wedi ei wisgo mewn llurig emog o bres, yn pwyso pum mil o siclau.
6He had brass shin armor on his legs, and a javelin of brass between his shoulders.
6 Yr oedd coesarnau pres am ei goesau a chrymgledd pres rhwng ei ysgwyddau.
7The staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam; and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and his shield bearer went before him.
7 Yr oedd paladr ei waywffon fel carfan gwehydd, a'i blaen yn chwe chan sicl o haearn. Yr oedd cludydd tarian yn cerdded o'i flaen.
8He stood and cried to the armies of Israel, and said to them, “Why have you come out to set your battle in array? Am I not a Philistine, and you servants to Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.
8 Safodd Goliath a gweiddi ar rengoedd Israel a dweud wrthynt, "Pam y dewch allan yn rhengoedd i frwydro? Onid Philistiad wyf fi, a chwithau'n weision i Saul? Dewiswch un ohonoch i ddod i lawr ataf fi.
9If he be able to fight with me, and kill me, then will we be your servants; but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then you will be our servants, and serve us.”
9 Os medr ef ymladd mi a'm trechu, fe fyddwn ni yn weision i chwi; ond os medraf fi ei drechu ef, chwi fydd yn weision i ni, ac yn ein gwasanaethu."
10The Philistine said, “I defy the armies of Israel this day! Give me a man, that we may fight together!”
10 Ychwanegodd y Philistiad, "Yr wyf fi heddiw yn herio rhengoedd Israel; dewch gu373?r, ynteu, inni gael ymladd 'n gilydd."
11When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
11 Pan glywodd Saul a'r Israeliaid y geiriau hyn gan y Philistiad, yr oeddent wedi eu parlysu gan ofn.
12Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem Judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man was an old man in the days of Saul, stricken among men.
12 Yr oedd Dafydd yn fab i Effratead o Fethlehem Jwda. Jesse oedd enw hwnnw, ac yr oedd ganddo wyth mab, ac erbyn dyddiau Saul yr oedd yn hen iawn.
13The three eldest sons of Jesse had gone after Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons who went to the battle were Eliab the firstborn, and next to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
13 Yr oedd ei dri mab hynaf wedi dilyn Saul i'r rhyfel. Enwau'r tri o'i feibion a aeth i'r rhyfel oedd Eliab yr hynaf, Abinadab yr ail, a Samma y trydydd;
14David was the youngest; and the three eldest followed Saul.
14 Dafydd oedd yr ieuengaf. Aeth y tri hynaf i ganlyn Saul;
15Now David went back and forth from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.
15 ond byddai Dafydd yn mynd a dod oddi wrth Saul i fugeilio defaid ei dad ym Methlehem.
16The Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
16 Bob bore a hwyr am ddeugain diwrnod bu'r Philistiad yn dod ac yn sefyll i herio.
17Jesse said to David his son, “Now take for your brothers an ephah 1 ephah is about 22 litres or about 2/3 of a bushel of this parched grain, and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to your brothers;
17 Dywedodd Jesse wrth ei fab Dafydd, "Cymer effa o'r crasyd yma i'th frodyr, a'r deg torth hyn, a brysia hwy i'r gwersyll at dy frodyr.
18and bring these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand, and see how your brothers are doing, and bring back news.”
18 Dos 'r deg cosyn gwyn yma i'r swyddog, ac edrych sut y mae hi ar dy frodyr, a thyrd rhyw arwydd yn l oddi wrthynt."
19Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
19 Yr oedd Saul a hwythau ac Israel gyfan yn nyffryn Ela yn ymladd 'r Philistiaid.
20David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the place of the wagons, as the army which was going forth to the fight shouted for the battle.
20 Trannoeth cododd Dafydd yn fore, a gadael y praidd gyda gofalwr, a chymryd ei bac a mynd fel yr oedd Jesse wedi gorchymyn iddo. Cyrhaeddodd y gwersyll fel yr oedd y fyddin yn mynd i'w rhengoedd ac yn bloeddio'r rhyfelgri.
21Israel and the Philistines put the battle in array, army against army.
21 Yr oedd Israel a'r Philistiaid wedi trefnu eu lluoedd, reng am reng.
22David left his baggage in the hand of the keeper of the baggage, and ran to the army, and came and greeted his brothers.
22 Gadawodd Dafydd ei bac gyda gofalwr y gwersyll, a rhedeg i'r rheng a mynd i ofyn sut yr oedd ei frodyr.
23As he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the ranks of the Philistines, and spoke according to the same words: and David heard them.
24All the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were terrified.
24 Pan welodd yr Israeliaid y dyn, ffoesant i gyd oddi wrtho mewn ofn,
25The men of Israel said, “Have you seen this man who has come up? He has surely come up to defy Israel. It shall be, that the man who kills him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father’s house free in Israel.”
25 a dweud, "A welwch chwi'r dyn yma sy'n dod i fyny? I herio Israel y mae'n dod. Pe byddai unrhyw un yn ei ladd, byddai'r brenin yn ei wneud yn gyfoethog iawn, ac yn rhoi ei ferch iddo, ac yn rhoi rhyddfraint Israel i'w deulu."
26David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “What shall be done to the man who kills this Philistine, and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
26 Yna gofynnodd Dafydd i'r dynion oedd yn sefyll o'i gwmpas, "Beth a wneir i'r sawl fydd yn lladd y Philistiad acw, ac yn symud y sarhad oddi ar Israel? Oherwydd pwy yw'r Philistiad dienwaededig hwn, ei fod yn herio lluoedd y Duw byw?"
27The people answered him in this way, saying, “So shall it be done to the man who kills him.”
27 Dywedodd y bobl yr un peth wrtho: "Fel hyn y gwneir i'r sawl fydd yn ei ladd ef."
28Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, “Why have you come down? With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride, and the naughtiness of your heart; for you have come down that you might see the battle.”
28 Clywodd ei frawd hynaf Eliab ef yn siarad 'r dynion, a chollodd ei dymer Dafydd a dweud, "Pam y daethost ti i lawr yma? Yng ngofal pwy y gadewaist yr ychydig ddefaid yna yn y diffeithwch? Mi wn dy hyfdra a'th fwriadau drwg er mwyn cael gweld y frwydr y daethost ti draw yma."
29David said, “What have I now done? Is there not a cause?”
29 Dywedodd Dafydd, "Beth wnes i? Onid gofyn cwestiwn?"
30He turned away from him toward another, and spoke like that again; and the people answered him again the same way.
30 Trodd draw oddi wrtho at rywun arall, a gofyn yr un peth, a'r bobl yn rhoi'r un ateb ag o'r blaen iddo.
31When the words were heard which David spoke, they rehearsed them before Saul; and he sent for him.
31 Rhoddwyd sylw i'r geiriau a lefarodd Dafydd, a'u hailadrodd wrth Saul, ac anfonodd yntau amdano.
32David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”
32 Ac meddai Dafydd wrth Saul, "Peidied neb gwangalonni o achos hwn; fe dy was ac ymladd 'r Philistiad yma."
33Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.”
33 Dywedodd Saul wrth Ddafydd, "Ni fedri di fynd ac ymladd 'r Philistiad hwn, oherwydd llanc wyt ti ac yntau'n rhyfelwr o'i ieuenctid."
34David said to Saul, “Your servant was keeping his father’s sheep; and when a lion or a bear came, and took a lamb out of the flock,
34 Ond dyw-edodd Dafydd wrth Saul, "Bugail ar ddefaid ei dad yw dy was;
35I went out after him, and struck him, and rescued it out of his mouth. When he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and struck him, and killed him.
35 pan fydd llew neu arth yn dod ac yn cipio dafad o'r ddiadell, byddaf yn mynd ar ei l, yn ei daro, ac yn achub y ddafad o'i safn. Pan fydd yn codi yn fy erbyn i, byddaf yn cydio yn ei farf, yn ei drywanu, ac yn ei ladd.
36Your servant struck both the lion and the bear. This uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, since he has defied the armies of the living God.”
36 Mae dy was wedi lladd llewod ac eirth, a dim ond fel un ohonynt hwy y bydd y Philistiad dienwaededig hwn, am iddo herio byddin y Duw byw."
37David said, “Yahweh who delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go; and Yahweh shall be with you.”
37 Ac ychwanegodd Dafydd, "Bydd yr ARGLWYDD a'm gwaredodd o afael y llew a'r arth yn sicr o'm hachub o afael y Philistiad hwn hefyd." Dywedodd Saul, "Dos, a bydded yr ARGLWYDD gyda thi."
38Saul dressed David with his clothing. He put a helmet of brass on his head, and he clad him with a coat of mail.
38 Rhoddodd Saul ei wisg ei hun am Ddafydd: rhoi helm bres ar ei ben, ei wisgo yn ei lurig, a gwregysu Dafydd 'i gleddyf dros ei wisg.
39David strapped his sword on his clothing, and he tried to move; for he had not tested it. David said to Saul, “I can’t go with these; for I have not tested them.” David took them off.
39 Ond methodd gerdded, am nad oedd wedi arfer hwy. Dywedodd Dafydd wrth Saul, "Ni fedraf gerdded yn y rhain, oherwydd nid wyf wedi arfer hwy." A diosgodd hwy oddi amdano.
40He took his staff in his hand, and chose for himself five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the shepherd’s bag which he had, even in his wallet. His sling was in his hand; and he drew near to the Philistine.
40 Yna cymerodd ei ffon yn ei law, dewisodd bum carreg lefn o'r nant a'u rhoi yn y bag bugail oedd ganddo fel poced, a nesaodd at y Philistiad 'i ffon dafl yn ei law,
41The Philistine came on and drew near to David; and the man who bore the shield went before him.
41 Daeth hwnnw allan i gyfarfod Dafydd, gyda chludydd ei darian o'i flaen.
42When the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and withal of a fair face.
42 A phan edrychodd y Philistiad a gweld Dafydd, dirmygodd ef am ei fod yn llencyn gwritgoch, golygus.
43The Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” The Philistine cursed David by his gods.
43 Ac meddai'r Philistiad wrth Ddafydd, "Ai ci wyf fi, dy fod yn dod ataf ffyn?" A rhegodd y Philistiad ef yn enw ei dduw,
44The Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky, and to the animals of the field.”
44 a dweud wrtho, "Tyrd yma, ac fe roddaf dy gnawd i adar yr awyr ac i'r anifeiliaid gwyllt."
45Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin: but I come to you in the name of Yahweh of Armies, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
45 Ond dywedodd Dafydd wrth y Philistiad, "Yr wyt ti'n dod ataf fi chleddyf a gwaywffon a chrymgledd; ond yr wyf fi'n dod atat ti yn enw ARGLWYDD y Lluoedd, Duw byddin Israel, yr wyt ti wedi ei herio.
46Today, Yahweh will deliver you into my hand. I will strike you, and take your head from off you. I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky, and to the wild animals of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,
46 Y dydd hwn bydd yr ARGLWYDD yn dy roi yn fy llaw; lladdaf di a thorri dy ben i ffwrdd, a rhoi celanedd llu'r Philistiaid heddiw i adar yr awyr a bwystfilod y ddaear, er mwyn i'r byd i gyd wybod fod Duw gan Israel,
47and that all this assembly may know that Yahweh doesn’t save with sword and spear: for the battle is Yahweh’s, and he will give you into our hand.”
47 ac i'r holl gynulliad hwn wybod nad trwy gleddyf na gwaywffon y mae'r ARGLWYDD yn gwaredu, oherwydd yr ARGLWYDD biau'r frwydr, ac fe'ch rhydd chwi yn ein llaw ni."
48It happened, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
48 Yna pan gychwynnodd y Philistiad tuag at Ddafydd, rhedodd Dafydd yn chwim ar hyd y rheng i gyfarfod y Philistiad;
49David put his hand in his bag, took a stone, and slung it, and struck the Philistine in his forehead; and the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth.
49 rhoddodd ei law yn y bag a chymryd carreg allan a'i hyrddio, a tharo'r Philistiad yn ei dalcen nes bod y garreg yn suddo i'w dalcen; syrthiodd yntau ar ei wyneb i'r llawr.
50So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine, and killed him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
50 Felly trechodd Dafydd y Philistiad ffon dafl a charreg, a'i daro'n farw, heb fod ganddo gleddyf.
51Then David ran, and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of its sheath, and killed him, and cut off his head therewith. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.
51 Yna rhedodd Dafydd a sefyll uwchben y Philistiad; cydiodd yn ei gleddyf ef a'i dynnu o'r wain, a rhoi'r ergyd olaf iddo a thorri ei ben i ffwrdd. Pan welodd y Philistiaid fod eu harwr yn farw, ffoesant;
52The men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until you come to Gai, and to the gates of Ekron. The wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even to Gath, and to Ekron.
52 a chododd gwu375?r Israel a Jwda a bloeddio rhyfelgri ac ymlid y Philistiaid cyn belled Gath a phyrth Ecron. A chwympodd celanedd y Philistiaid ar hyd y ffordd o Saaraim i Gath ac Ecron.
53The children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they plundered their camp.
53 Yna dychwelodd yr Israeliaid o ymlid y Philistiaid, ac ysbeilio eu gwersyll.
54David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armor in his tent.
54 Cymerodd Dafydd ben y Philistiad a'i ddwyn i Jerwsalem, ond gosododd ei arfau yn ei babell ei hun.
55When Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the captain of the army, “Abner, whose son is this youth?” Abner said, “As your soul lives, O king, I can’t tell.”
55 Pan welodd Saul Ddafydd yn mynd allan i gyfarfod y Philistiad, gofynnodd i Abner, capten ei lu, "Mab i bwy yw'r bachgen acw, Abner?" Atebodd Abner, "Cyn wired 'th fod yn fyw, O frenin, ni wn i ddim."
56The king said, “Inquire whose son the young man is!”
56 A dywedodd y brenin, "Hola di mab i bwy yw'r llanc ifanc."
57As David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
57 Felly pan gyrhaeddodd Dafydd yn l wedi iddo ladd y Philistiad, cymerodd Abner ef a'i ddwyn at Saul gyda phen y Philistiad yn ei law.
58Saul said to him, “Whose son are you, you young man?” David answered, “I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.”
58 Gofynnodd Saul, "Mab pwy wyt ti, fachgen?" A dywedodd Dafydd, "Mab dy was Jesse o Fethlehem."
