1Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, a complaint arose from the Hellenists The Hellenists used Greek language and culture, even though they were also of Hebrew descent. against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily service.
1 Yn y dyddiau hynny, pan oedd y disgyblion yn amlhau, bu grwgnach gan yr Iddewon Groeg eu hiaith yn erbyn y rhai Hebraeg, am fod eu gweddwon hwy yn cael eu hesgeuluso yn y ddarpariaeth feunyddiol.
2The twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not appropriate for us to forsake the word of God and serve tables.
2 Galwodd y Deuddeg gynulleidfa'r disgyblion atynt, a dweud, "Nid yw'n addas ein bod ni'n gadael Gair Duw, i weini wrth fyrddau.
3Therefore select from among you, brothers, seven men of good report, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
3 Dewiswch, gyfeillion, saith o ddynion o'ch plith ac iddynt air da, yn llawn o'r Ysbryd ac o ddoethineb, ac fe'u gosodwn hwy ar hyn o orchwyl.
4But we will continue steadfastly in prayer and in the ministry of the word.”
4 Fe barhawn ni yn ddyfal yn y gweddo ac yng ngwasanaeth y Gair."
5These words pleased the whole multitude. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch;
5 A bu eu geiriau yn gymeradwy gan yr holl gynulleidfa, a dyma ddewis Steffan, gu373?r llawn o ffydd ac o'r Ysbryd Gln, a Philip a Prochorus a Nicanor a Timon a Parmenas a Nicolaus, proselyt o Antiochia.
6whom they set before the apostles. When they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
6 Gosodasant y rhain gerbron yr apostolion, ac wedi gweddo rhoesant hwythau eu dwylo arnynt.
7The word of God increased and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem exceedingly. A great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
7 Yr oedd Gair Duw'n mynd ar gynnydd. Yr oedd nifer y disgyblion yn Jerwsalem yn lluosogi'n ddirfawr, a thyrfa fawr o'r offeiriaid hefyd yn ufuddhau i'r ffydd.
8Stephen, full of faith and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people.
8 Yr oedd Steffan, yn llawn gras a nerth, yn gwneud rhyfeddodau ac arwyddion mawr ymhlith y bobl.
9But some of those who were of the synagogue called “The Libertines,” and of the Cyrenians, of the Alexandrians, and of those of Cilicia and Asia arose, disputing with Stephen.
9 Ond daeth rhai o'r synagog a elwid yn Synagog y Libertiniaid a'r Cyreniaid a'r Alexandriaid, a rhai o bobl Cilicia ac Asia, a dadlau Steffan,
10They weren’t able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke.
10 ond ni allent wrthsefyll y ddoethineb a'r Ysbryd yr oedd yn llefaru drwyddo.
11Then they secretly induced men to say, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.”
11 Yna annog dynion a wnaethant i ddweud, "Clywsom ef yn llefaru pethau cableddus yn erbyn Moses ac yn erbyn Duw."
12They stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes, and came against him and seized him, and brought him in to the council,
12 A chynyrfasant y bobl a'r henuriaid a'r ysgrifenyddion, ac ymosod arno a'i gipio a dod ag ef gerbron y Sanhedrin,
13and set up false witnesses who said, “This man never stops speaking blasphemous words against this holy place and the law.
13 a gosod gaudystion i ddweud, "Y mae'r dyn yma byth a hefyd yn llefaru pethau yn erbyn y lle sanctaidd hwn a'r Gyfraith;
14For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses delivered to us.”
14 oherwydd clywsom ef yn dweud y bydd Iesu'r Nasaread yma yn distrywio'r lle hwn, ac yn newid y defodau a draddododd Moses i ni."
15All who sat in the council, fastening their eyes on him, saw his face like it was the face of an angel.
15 A syllodd pawb oedd yn eistedd yn y Sanhedrin arno, a gwelsant ei wyneb ef fel wyneb angel.
