1Now the word of Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,
1 Daeth gair yr ARGLWYDD at Jona fab Amittai, a dweud,
2“Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach against it, for their wickedness has come up before me.”
2 "Cod, dos i Ninefe, y ddinas fawr, a llefara yn ei herbyn; oherwydd daeth ei drygioni i'm sylw."
3But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of Yahweh. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid its fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of Yahweh.
3 Ond cododd Jona i ffoi oddi wrth yr ARGLWYDD i Tarsis. Aeth i lawr i Jopa a chael llong yn mynd i Tarsis, ac wedi talu ei dreuliau aeth arni i fynd gyda hwy i Tarsis oddi wrth yr ARGLWYDD.
4But Yahweh sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty storm on the sea, so that the ship was likely to break up.
4 Ond cododd yr ARGLWYDD wynt nerthol ar y mr, a bu storm mor arw ar y mr nes bod y llong mewn perygl o gael ei dryllio.
5Then the mariners were afraid, and every man cried to his god. They threw the cargo that was in the ship into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone down into the innermost parts of the ship, and he was laying down, and was fast asleep.
5 Yr oedd y morwyr wedi dychryn, a phob un yn gweiddi ar ei dduw, a thaflasant y gr oedd ar y llong i'r mr i'w hysgafnu. Ond yr oedd Jona wedi mynd i grombil y llong i orwedd, ac wedi cysgu.
6So the shipmaster came to him, and said to him, “What do you mean, sleeper? Arise, call on your God or, gods ! Maybe your God or, gods will notice us, so that we won’t perish.”
6 A daeth capten y llong ato a gofyn, "Beth yw dy feddwl, yn cysgu? Cod, a galw ar dy dduw; efallai y meddylia'r duw amdanom, rhag ein difetha."
7They all said to each other, “Come, let us cast lots, that we may know who is responsible for this evil that is on us.” So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah.
7 Yna dywedodd y morwyr wrth ei gilydd, "O achos pwy y daeth y drwg hwn arnom? Gadewch inni fwrw coelbren, inni gael gwybod." Felly bwriasant goelbren, a syrthiodd y coelbren ar Jona.
8Then they asked him, “Tell us, please, for whose cause this evil is on us. What is your occupation? Where do you come from? What is your country? Of what people are you?”
8 Yna dywedasant wrtho, "Dywed i ni, beth yw dy neges? O ble y daethost? Prun yw dy wlad? O ba genedl yr wyt?"
9He said to them, “I am a Hebrew, and I fear Yahweh, the God The Hebrew word rendered “God” is “Elohim.” of heaven, who has made the sea and the dry land.”
9 Atebodd yntau hwy, "Hebrwr wyf fi; ac yr wyf yn ofni'r ARGLWYDD, Duw'r nefoedd, a wnaeth y mr a'r sychdir."
10Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said to him, “What is this that you have done?” For the men knew that he was fleeing from the presence of Yahweh, because he had told them.
10 A daeth ofn mawr ar y dynion, a dywedasant wrtho, "Beth yw hyn a wnaethost?" Oherwydd gwyddai'r dynion mai ffoi oddi wrth yr ARGLWYDD yr oedd, gan iddo ddweud hynny wrthynt.
11Then they said to him, “What shall we do to you, that the sea may be calm to us?” For the sea grew more and more stormy.
11 Yna dywedasant, "Beth a wnawn thi, er mwyn i'r mr ostegu inni, oherwydd y mae'n gwaethygu o hyd."
12He said to them, “Take me up, and throw me into the sea. Then the sea will be calm for you; for I know that because of me this great storm is on you.”
12 Atebodd yntau, "Cymerwch fi a'm taflu i'r mr, ac yna fe dawela'r mr ichwi; oherwydd gwn mai o'm hachos i y daeth y storm arw hon arnoch."
13Nevertheless the men rowed hard to get them back to the land; but they could not, for the sea grew more and more stormy against them.
13 Rhwyfodd y dynion yn galed i gyrraedd tir, ond ni allent, gan fod y mr yn gwaethygu o hyd yn eu herbyn.
14Therefore they cried to Yahweh, and said, “We beg you, Yahweh, we beg you, don’t let us die for this man’s life, and don’t lay on us innocent blood; for you, Yahweh, have done as it pleased you.”
14 Yna gwaeddasant ar yr ARGLWYDD a dweud, "O ARGLWYDD, paid gadael inni gael ein difetha am fywyd y dyn hwn, na rhoi gwaed dieuog yn ein herbyn; ti yw'r ARGLWYDD, ac yr wyt yn gwneud fel y gweli'n dda."
15So they took up Jonah, and threw him into the sea; and the sea ceased its raging.
15 Yna cymerasant Jona a'i daflu i'r mr, a llonyddodd y mr o'i gynnwrf.
16Then the men feared Yahweh exceedingly; and they offered a sacrifice to Yahweh, and made vows.
16 Ac ofnodd y gwu375?r yr ARGLWYDD yn fawr iawn, gan offrymu aberth i'r ARGLWYDD a gwneud addunedau.
17Yahweh prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
17 A threfnodd yr ARGLWYDD i bysgodyn mawr lyncu Jona; a bu Jona ym mol y pysgodyn am dri diwrnod a thair noson.
